Review: Tamarak Trail

The core elements of Tamarak Trail will be recognisable to anyone familiar with the deck-building roguelike genre. You choose a path through a randomly generated fantasy map, frequently encountering monsters, using your prizes to construct the deck with which you’ll battle increasingly difficult monsters. The key twist in Tamarak Trail is that the deck you build is not made up of standard cards, but rather of collected dice sides. You start off with two dice, populated with the most basic attacking and defensive moves available in the game, as well as one or two more interesting sides based on which character you are playing. This gives Tamarak Trail a much stronger element of chance than similar games. As well as needing luck when it comes to the sides you find in the first place, there is also the fact that you’ll never have complete control over your dice roll.  However, this unique feature also opens up new avenues for interesting strategies in battle. The placement of each die side you find can have a huge impact on your combat. Some not only have a direct impact on the battlefield, but are affected by collisions between your dice. Others cause the die to flip, meaning you get the use of a second side of the same die during that turn. If you are lucky enough to encounter a treasure chest on your route, you can also collect die cores. These offer a variety of boosts when you use them in battle and can be a valuable or even integral aspect of your battle strategy. There is certainly scope to figure out how you can make die sides and cores work together to ramp up your power. On a good run, you can become an unstoppable machine rampaging across the map. Each time you are defeated, you return to the lodge to start over. Every boss battle you win rewards you with currency called Garmonbozia. This can be used to rebuild the crumbling lodge which acts as your base. Each completed upgrade offers boons to your future runs, although it could be more obvious wh... Read more

With My Past Review – Puzzle Therapy

Reviewed on: PC Platform: PC Publisher: Edigger Developer: Imagine Wings Studio Release: May 7, 2024 Everyone can empathize with waking up late at night and sitting in agony as your brain forcefully makes you relive a traumatic, embarrassing, or heartbreaking moment. Our past is with us forever, and how it manifests in the present is a toss-up from day to day. With My Past, the debut game from developer Imagine Wings Studio, attempts to blend those feelings with platforming-puzzle gameplay and does so excellently. The result is a therapeutic five-hour adventure I'll be thinking about long after today.  After being startled awake at 3 a.m. by her past, an unnamed blue-haired girl goes on a journey through her labyrinth mind, which is holding her back. This translates to six distinct chapters of gameplay, each with a unique theme in narrative and mechanics. The first introduces you to her "Past," the throughline mechanic with which With My Past shines. Your past is just you, but two seconds prior. If you walk forward and jump, two seconds later, it will too. With My Past playfully builds upon this in its opening moments as it teaches you the ropes, but by the end of the game, I was pulling off moves that bent my brain in all directions. As you progress through each chapter, With My Past introduces new mechanics, like a Kiwi fruit that lets you teleport to your past's location or a way to solidify your past and climb on top of it to reach new heights. It's hard to describe how unique this mechanic plays in With My Past because it's genuinely unlike anything I've played in a puzzle game, but Imagine Wings Studios excels at adding new layers to its depth each step of the journey. I'm reminded of 2018's Celeste, which does the same, incorporating narrative elements into the game's mechanics.  On that same note, With My Past is more vague than Celeste's journey of transformation and self-love, instead allowing players to graft their own past onto the protagonist he... Floor Is Lava – PVP & Nextbots Heats Up Even More with New Update!

A new update of Floor is Lava – PVP & Nextbots dropped on May 5, 2024, bringing fresh content to the already sizzling (literally) game. This is the first update the game has received since being released on the 27th of April. Let’s take a dip into what’s new. Lava Gets Level-Headed The update introduces a leveling system, adding a layer of progression for players. Levels are earned by completing challenges and staying afloat on the lava, which can unlock new characters or enhance existing ones. So, this can add a long-term goal to the game, keeping you hooked on that sweet survival. Flash! Bang! Time For A New Tactic The update introduces you to a new item in the game—the flashbang. This tactical tool can disorient your opponents, giving you a precious edge in the fight for high ground. Meanwhile, you can use it to create a sneaky escape route or disrupt an enemy’s climb. The flashbang adds a strategic wrinkle to the frantic gameplay. Will you throw it strategically to confuse opponents or use it as a desperate escape tool? Map Makeover: A More Refined Inferno The update also polishes the game’s maps, offering a smoother experience. While the core lava-dodging fun remains the same, the improved maps might offer new strategic routes or hiding spots. Additionally, keeping the gameplay fresh, especially for players who’ve committed the old layouts to memory. Staying Afloat In A Fiery World The floor is Lava – PVP & Nextbots give you a combination of rising lava, tricky obstacles, and the ever-present threat of Nextbots keeps players on their toes. It’s a simple concept executed with exciting gameplay, perfect for a quick burst of action. Therefore, the new update adds more depth and strategy to the mix, potentially giving the game more staying power. You can check out the game on Google Play! How to make the most of Destiny 2 Expansion Open Access, live now

Whether you’re new to Destiny 2 or haven’t played in a while, this could go down in history as the best month yet to hop in the game. From May 7 to June 3, Bungie is giving all players access to The Witch Queen, Beyond Light, and Shadowkeep expansions (plus Lightfall if you’re a PlayStation Plus member) along with the past four Seasons of content! That’s a lot to tackle in one month. Where does a Guardian even start? We consulted Bungie Community Lead Chris “Cozmo” Shannon to see what he recommends. Play Video Skip ahead and gear up “If you haven’t finished the New Light quest chain, there’s now an option to skip it and get right to all this content. There are two gifts you should immediately go claim, too. Visit Shaxx in the Hall of Champions to pick up your high-power gear from the Gift of the Thunder Gods chest and go see Ikora in the Tower to choose your New Light Kit. Each kit has Exotic armor and abilities for a different Light subclass. And you can get this gear for each of your characters!” Choose your own adventure After you’re geared up, it’s time to determine your first adventure. There are so many places to explore, each with its own unique fantasy feel and story. Consider your play style and availability, too. Whether you have limited time and just want to explore or want to go all-in to take advantage of this deal, Cozmo has some ideas to help point you in the right direction. Solo Campaign: The Witch Queen Journey through Savathûn’s Throne World, a twisted wonderland of Darkness and Light. “I believe The Witch Queen is some of the best storytelling we’ve done so far. We took our time setting up Savathûn as a complicated antagonist, and it’s thrilling to finally get to face off against her and learn more about her history and motivations. Even if you aren’t familiar with Savathûn, the campaign does a great job of telling her story and catching you up along the way. It has some amazing moments and caps off with... Read more

Marvel Snap's May 2024 Season Takes A Turn For The Multiverse With Blink And The Exiles

The success of Marvel Snap rolls on, as does the seasonal structure of the free-to-play, deck-building card-battler from Second Dinner. Recent seasons have been themed after corners of the Marvel Universe, like Avengers vs. X-Men or Thunderbolts, but this season leans a bit more into the Marvel Multiverse with Blink and the Exiles. This season, titled "A Blink in Time," introduces five new characters, two new locations, and more. The new characters joining the game in A Blink in Time are as follows: Blink (5 Cost, 7 Power) On reveal, swap the last card you played with a higher-cost card from your deck. Nocturne (3 Cost, 5 Power) You can move this once. When this moves, replace its location with a random new one. Sage (3 Cost, 0 Power) On reveal, +2 power for each different power among all other cards here. Namora (5 Cost, 6 Power) On reveal, give +5 power to each of your cards alone at another location. Sasquatch (6 Cost, 10 Power) Costs 1 less for each card you played last turn.   On top of those all-new characters joining Marvel Snap collections, there are two new locations: Panoptichron, where cards that didn't start in your deck get +2 power, and Cancun, where power at that location doesn't count toward winning the game. New albums featuring Dan Hipp and Rian Gonzales also further incentivize Variant collections by rewarding items themed after Werewolf By Night, Silk, and Iron Lad. Finally, we know the dates of the Series 5 releases of this season. Baron Zemo and Nocturne get their Series 5 release on May 7, Sage arrives on May 14, Namora on May 21, and Sasquatch on May 28. Marvel Snap's May season, A Blink in Time, kicks off today. For more on Marvel Snap, check out Charles Harte's opinion piece from when the game originally arrived on mobile devices Read more

Sony Wants Media Molecule to Make a Game Rather Than a Creation Tool – Report

Former Little Big Planet developer Media Molecule is working on a new IP. The company’s last release, Dreams, was more of a creativity tool rather than a game in the traditional sense. However, Sony reportedly wants the studio to work on a more conventional console game. Media Molecule’s next game isn’t a creativity tool This information comes from Media Molecule Co-Founder Mark Healey, who recently left the company. In an interview on the MinnMax podcast, he talked about his career, his reasons for leaving, and what was happening in the studio. In addition to saying he had faith in Media Molecule, he touched a bit on the studio’s new IP. Healey wasn’t sure how far along the project was at this point. However, he said, “I would dare to go as far as saying it’s more of a game than a creative tool for sure.” Earlier in the interview, Healey talked about how, after the success of Litte Big Planet, Sony gave Media Molecule a lot of leeway to do what it wanted. That led to Dreams, which he said touched many people but also had some mistakes. For example, he thinks Dreams was “obviously more suited” for PC than PS4, which it released on. He also regretted that the studio never implemented online multiplayer, which he thinks the game needed. After Dreams, Sony wanted Media Molecule to make something “people can have a bit more faith in on a console.” The studio’s next game is still something of a mystery. It was also hit by layoffs last year, and Sony nearly shut it down instead of London Studio. However, Media Molecule survived the layoffs, and Healey says Sony still believes in the studio. Project Mugetsu is out on Roblox. Want to know more about getting a new Shikai? Try our Project Mugetsu Shikai rarity guide. Project Mugetsu Zangetsu Guide First, we’ll go over what Zangetsu is, then we’ll get into some detail about the moveset, then we’ll talk about the Bankai. The Basics On Zangetsu Zangetsu is the most common Shikai in Project Mugetsu. It’s the signature of Ichigo Kurosaki, or at least looks very much like it. The moves aren’t tied to an element and focus mainly on sword swings. Its Bankai equivalent is Tensa Zangetsu. Zangetsu Moveset Below is the Zangetsu Shikai moveset. These are unlocked progressively by increasing your Zanpakuto level. Z – Engetsuzan – 12-Second Cooldown Available immediately on unlocking the Shikai. An upward, guard-breaking slash with Zangetsu that throws enemies. X – Getsuga Burst – 20-Second Cooldown Available at Zanpakuto Level 10. A downward AOE strike with the Zangetsu, breaks guard. Project Mugetsu Bankai Tier List

Bankai is pretty iconic to Bleach, and pretty much an essential part of Soul Reaper progression in Project Mugetsu. Some are stronger than others, though, so you may want to be selective with your destiny. Our Project Mugetsu Bankai tier list outlines the winners and losers in the Bankai world. You can play Project Mugetsu now on Roblox. We’ve also got a Project Mugetsu Shikai rarity guide, so you can reroll your Shikai, too. Project Mugetsu Bankai Tier List Below we’ve ranked all the existing Bankai in descending order of usefulness. They run down from S-Tier, the most impressive, down to D-Tier, the most underwhelming. S The best Bankai. They have excellent movesets that excel in PVP and PVE content, you might as well ditch the rerolls from here, you won’t find anything better. Nozarashi Senbonzakura Kageyoshi A Very good and will pull you through content with relative ease. Not quite as impressive as S-Tier, but you can absolutely be competitive with these. Daiguren Hyorinmaru Kamishi No Yari Zanka No Tachi B Not bad, you can still make these viable if you have sufficient skill, but they’re definitely not going to carry you. Tensa Zangetsu C You can use it, but understand its limitations. This Bankai has some uses, but they’re a little too specific to give it much utility, best rerolled if you’ve got the money. There are no C-Tier Bankai right now. D Basically useless. Only use if you have no other option. Reroll as soon as you possibly can. There are no D-Tier Bankai. Feel like we’re off base? Having great success with one of our low-rated Bankai? It’s definitely possible! Tier lists are pretty subjective, and you might have found a plus to a Bankai that we haven’t found or thought of. Feel free to let us know about it in the comments! The post Project Mugetsu Bankai Tier List appeared first on Droid Gamers Read more

It’s A Wrap For English Voice-Over In Final Fantasy BE: WOTV After Its Next Patch

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius: War of the Visions will soon drop a new update and it looks kind of grim for global players. It’s not a biggie (or is it?) but the devs are taking a new turn with the Final Fantasy BE: WOTV English voice-over. They’re ending all English VOs for the global version of Final Fantasy BE: WOTV. What’s The Scoop? This move was taken by the team as they’re switching gears by focusing solely on Japanese-language voice-overs for all the new stuff coming our way. The last chunk of content in Final Fantasy BE: WOTV with English voice-over will be Part 3, Chapter 8 of the main story and Chapter 3, Scene 7 of Another Story. Also, the unit Ashen King Mont will be the last unit to speak English. Anything that will be released after these chapters will be purely in Japanese. Don’t worry if you’re a player who loves the Final Fantasy BE: WOTV English voice-over. All the existing English-voiced content won’t be going anywhere. But to be honest, starting with an English voice-over and then nixing it later isn’t a crowd-pleaser. Even for those who don’t usually go for the English dub. It hasn’t been much time since War of the Visions launched globally. It launched in Japan in November 2019 and globally in March 2020. The global version’s dialogues were fully voice-acted, giving you a choice between English and Japanese audio, at least up until now. Why The Change In Final Fantasy BE: WOTV? While the devs haven’t said anything about it, it’s a bit obvious that such moves are made to manage expenses. But Square Enix, the publisher of War of the Visions, isn’t exactly a small player in the industry, which is why this decision hits a bit differently. Could it be an early sign of the game shutting down, much like what happened to Nier Reincarnation? Well, only time will tell. Whether it shuts down or not, you can still experience Final Fantasy BE: WOTV English voice-over as of now. So, go ahead and grab it from the Google Play Stor... Read more
