We want to nurture aspirations in our kids from a young age, but how are we able to do this? With our busy workdays and the kids’ structured school and activity schedule, when do we have the time to do so?
Most kids in Singapore have multiple enrichment classes lined up (mine included), however it is important to incorporate some form of entertainment into learning. This is why my boys and I often find ourselves at KidZania Singapore on a free afternoon after school.
Most of us would have already been to KidZania Singapore, and if you have not, you definitely need to check it out. Or even if you have, it is never too much to visit again! We all know it is a super fun place for kids, but one thing we might not realise is the true “Edutainment” (education + entertainment) value that KidZania offers.
Let me explain what I mean.
Most kids love candy & popsicles, but do they actually know how they are made? Most of us adults probably don’t know either (LOL). At KidZania Singapore kids are challenged to think outside the box and learn about the “how” and “why” – they get to experience things first hand!
Kids are challenged with new roles and activities, and much like the real world, each job they decide to pursue requires different skill sets that they need to learn.
We all know that kids love to role-play. Most times at home our role-play consists of superheroes & princesses, but at KidZania Singapore it’s structured, focused and real.
KidZania Singapore encourages kids to be anyone they want to be. From an Assistant Petrol Station Manager to a Radio DJ to a Surgeon, no job is too big or too small, and all deserve our respect. The choice on what job to pursue is up to the kids. Using their independent thinking skills, it’s up to the kids to choose what job(s) they want to experience, which will determine how much money (aka kidZos) they will earn or spend.
We all understand the importance of teamwork and group assignments, but often during the school holidays and after-school, the focus is on “individual” development and enrichment. At KidZania Singapore, kids get the opportunity to work as individuals and as a valued team player where they can learn real life skills of collaboration, sportsmanship and other important values.
For many of these young eager kids, the jobs they embark on at KidZania Singapore might be the only time they really get to explore the many different facets of each specific role that individuals in our society currently play. Kids can discover the endless possibilities that the world has to offer.
Now hopefully you can see why my boys and I love KidZania Singapore so much and why you too should make this a regular place to visit.
Oh and FYI, many of us have enquired (I know I have) and our voices have been heard! I’m super excited to share that KidZania Singapore is going to be offering Annual Passes for kids!! Right now, it is only available for their loyal members – B.KidZanian CitZens at a special introductory price of S$238 (U.P. S$288)! Click here to find out more!

SuperMommy Putting the Robot to the Test
The features of the Philips SmartPro Robot Vacuum sounded great, but I had to test it out and see for myself. Since I have two very energetic little boys, my house is fairly “child proof” and doesn’t have many breakable items or random cords, as such my primary concern was not about the robot breaking or banging into things.
As a busy mom my primary test for the Philips Robot were as follows:
(1) Does it pick up the lint, dirt & other creepy crawly things that are on our floor?
(2) What will happen if small toys get in the way of the Robot?
(3) Can the Robot work with minimal supervision?
Super Note: If breakables or off-limit areas are your main concern the vacuum does come with a “virtual wall” device which you place around the area where you do not want the Robot to clean. This will create an invisible barrier that the Robot cannot cross (approx. 2 meters).
For the purposes of this test, I supervised the Robot and followed it around my house while it cleaned. I also put a few obstacles in its path to see how it would handle it. Here are the results…
Test – Normal House Obstacles
Under the Bed & Tables: The Robot was successfully able to clean under the bed, even with the various toys and obstacles.
Rugs: We have marble & hardwood floors in our house with rugs of various textures. The Philips Robot did fine on the thin rugs and was easily able to get on and off, but it got a bit confused when it came to the thicker woolen rugs.
Stairs & different floor levels: We do not have stairs in our house, but I am certain the robot will not be able to handle this. We do have a small two inch step before you enter or exit the bathroom (basically the floor in the bathroom is slightly lower than the floor in all of the rooms). The Robot was able to successfully enter into the bathroom, but was not able to get out of the bathroom.
Super Note: This is an easy fix – just keep all the bathroom doors shut when the Robot is vacuuming and if you forget, no biggie then you will have super clean bathroom floor. LOL
Test – Small Toys
For the small toy test, I dropped a bunch of different sized LEGOs on the floor. The Robot did eat up the small pieces of LEGO. The big pieces just got caught up in the blue wipers and were found in different areas of the house. The small pieces were easily recovered once we opened the vacuum to clean it.
Super Note: Finding the missing LEGO in the Robot was much easier than finding LEGO in a normal vacuum or under the bed. Maybe if the Robot eats enough small toys, the kids might actually learn to clean up after themselves.
Test – Food & Crumbs
For the food test, I dropped a bunch of small round Gorilla Munch cereal on the ground. When the robot went over the cereal it crunched some of the pieces (I could actually hear it), which caused crumbs to scatter across the floor. Some of the cereal also got caught in various places in the bottom of the Robot. At one point the Robot shot out a piece of cereal like a bullet (no joke – it totally cracked me up – it was almost as if the robot didn’t like the taste – lol), which landed under the ottoman in the front hall. If I didn’t see it actually happen, that cereal could have potentially been there for days.
Super Note: I was very concerned when the robot started dragging the cereal across the other parts of my house and onto the rugs. This could cause a potential ant problem if the cereal was not found. The robot did clean up the crumbs that it caused when it rolled over the cereal.
Test – Dirt, Lint & Other Things
When I tested the Robot the house was already fairly clean, however the robot was still able to collect a lot of dust and hair off the floor, and also a lot of the lint from the rugs. I also saw a few live ants still crawling in the container – whoops.
Super Note: It is very, very easy to clean out the vacuum collection container and reinstall it once again. Much easier than a regular vacuum.
SuperMommy’s Opinion of the Robot Vacuum
For starters I think the Philips SmartPro Active Robot Vacuum Cleaner is super cute!! We have named it “Robee” the Robot at our house.
Pros: The little Robot does get the job done! It effectively picks up the dirt, dust, lint, hair, crumbs & bugs off the floor, it works on its own with minimal supervision, is very easy to maintain and easy to clean. It even returns to the charging base on it’s own (talk about being well trained).
Cons: You need to be patient with the Robot like a small child. It cannot handle steps or small ledges, it bangs into things, it gets confused and keeps cleaning the same area over & over, it spits out things it doesn’t like.
Final Verdict: For busy moms, the robot is definitely a handy helper to have around the house. It substantially cuts down on the time spent doing housework and the day-to-day manual cleaning of the floor. Since the price is a bit high, this is not a “must have” item, but the Robot is something you should consider for your wish list.

Congratulations, your child has a wiggly tooth!! Soon it will be time for the ever so popular “Tooth Fairy” to make a visit to your house. Losing your first tooth is a big deal and a memorable occasion for kids. There are many cute & easy ways that you can commemorate this special event to make lasting memories.
Recently when Xavion (my 6 year old) lost his first tooth, I posted a picture on Instagram of what the “tooth fairy” left under his pillow. In addition to the whopping $10 bill he received, many people were very intrigued with all the creative items the tooth fairy left him. Hence why I decided to write this article and show my SuperMommy readers just how easy it is to be the most awesome tooth fairy for your child with very minimal effort and money.
First here are a few simple & cost efficient ideas on what you should do when your child loses their first tooth:
(1) Letter to the Tooth Fairy. Have your child write a letter to the tooth fairy asking for her to pay him a visit. This is similar to a letter to Santa.
(2) Tooth Fairy Certificate or Receipt. Print out a certificate or tooth receipt (or both) and place it under your child’s pillow. You can write in your child’s name, or use a photo editing software (I use PicMonkey) to insert the text.
(3) Make it Sparkle. Glue glitter on the certificate to add a little magic sparkle.
(4) A Trail of Fairy Dust. Sprinkle a trail of confetti from the window to the bed (preferably light pastel colors or white sprinkles).
(5) A Bag of Fairy Dust. Leave a small bag of fairy dust somewhere in the room or under the pillow. The bag can be a small cloth bag of a clear cellophane bag tied with a bow. You can also put the Tooth Fairy Receipt in the bag of fairy dust.
(6) Tooth Fairy Thank You Letter. The next morning, have your child write a thank you letter to the tooth fairy, thanking her for the gifts she left and asking her to come again soon. This teaches good manners and it never hurts to be polite.
(7) Save as a Keepsake. Save the tooth, certificate and letters in a safe place and share with your child when they are a grown-up. Many places also sell special boxes and cushions for you to store your child’s first tooth. Make sure to clearly label the bag/envelope that you are storing the tooth in with your child’s name, date, the tooth location and the order in which it was lost (1st, 2nd, etc.)
Super Note: When your child’s tooth first starts wiggling, make sure you have all your glitter & confetti supplies at home. The last thing you want is to make a midnight run to the arts & crafts store.
If you still want to do a bit more and have some money to spend there are tons of cute things you can buy for this special day. Just look on Etsy or do a quick Internet search and you will be amazed at how creative ideas there are out there.
Free Printable Tooth Receipts & Certificates
You can either create your own fabulous Tooth Fairy certificate or just look on the Internet for one to print out. Here are a few cute tooth fairy certificates / receipts that I found by doing a quick Google Search. There are tons more that are suitable for both boys & girls, just do a search for yourself!
Please note that I did not make these amazing printables myself. The link to each of the images is listed below the picture
If you are still wondering if you actually should do this for your kids (or if it is just a silly idea), trust me when I say “YES, do it”! Both my boys took their certificates and fairy dust to school to show off to their friends and everyone sure was impressed! Even 2 years later, my older son Zayden (who obviously now knows his mom is the real Tooth Fairy), still has his bag of fairy dust intact.
Leave me a comment below if you have any of your own Tooth Fairy ideas to share with the SuperMommy readers.

Thanksgiving is a long standing American tradition which is celebrated the last Thursday in November. It is a day of when families & friends come together over a festive meal and reflect on the many things they are thankful for.
Now most people have the usual festive desserts at the feast – pumpkin or apple pie, a custard or even a log cake. This year in addition to the traditionally desserts, why not try to stand out from the rest with these super cute “Turkey” cookies. This is an easy no-bake recipe that anyone can make with a few store bought items. These are especially fun if you have a class thanksgiving party or a lot of kids at your Thanksgiving meal.
Special Thanks to Super Mom Sarika for submitting her step-by-step pictures and sharing this easy Thanksgiving Dessert Recipe with the SuperMommy readers!
Things You Need:
OREO cookies or any sandwich cookies
Candy Corn (orange & brown)
Step 1: Open the cookie.
Super Note: Instead of a sandwich cookie, you can use any type of cookie (even home baked) to make these cute turkeys. You will just need to use extra icing in the middle.
Step 2: Place two pretzels on the bottom of the cookie filling to form legs.
Step 3: Place 5 brown candy corns at the top of the cookie filling to form feathers.
Step 4: Add icing to the inside of the top of the cookie. Then take the cookie and carefully push down to close.
Step 6: Put icing on the candy corn and eyeballs. Then push into place on top of the cookie.
Step 7: Repeat for the rest of the cookies.
Step 8: Gobble Gobble!
Hope you and your family have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Most of us take the simple things in life for granted, like turning on the lights with a simple switch when it gets dark. But what happens when there is no electricity? How can there be light? Many people around the world do not have access to consistent electricity and power outages are a normal occurrence.
This inspiring video shows how “one” man with a little creativity was able to create a “One Man Power Station” and bring lights in his otherwise dark community in Myanmar.
One-Man Power Station - Stories of Change - YouTube
This one man, Kyaw Kyaw, used to sell candles to the vendors at the night market, but often the rain or wind would make the flames go out, thus leaving everyone in the dark with no way for people to buy or sell at the market. One day Kyaw Kyaw came up with the idea to sell “light” instead, and now every night, instead of candles, Kyaw Kyaw strings up light bulbs in the market and uses a generator to power up the bulbs. Now whether it is rain or shine, the vendors of the market have a consistent and reliable light source.
If Kyaw Kyaw can do it, so can you and so can I. As we embark on the New Year, let us try to see how we can make a change in our own community. What can we do as individuals? What can we do as a family? It is important that we teach our kids by setting a good example, that even small acts can and will make a difference right here in our own community.
Making a difference is not hard, you just need to take the first step to do so. Even something as simple as finding an environmentally friendly way to use recycled materials in day to day activities or finding ways to conserve water and electricity, can prove to be beneficial in the long run.
Things people are doing in the world are inspiring not only individuals, but also big companies like Mitsubishi Electric which are also now focused on making a difference in many communities around the world. Here are a few more inspiring “Stories of Change” that will help you get your creative juices flowing to see how you too can make a difference in your own community! Click here to see how others have made a difference.
If you have any other inspiring acts or stories of people in your local community who have made a difference, please share and let others know. Even the smallest act can make a difference.
Good Luck & Best Wishes for the New Year!
This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Mitsubishi Electric. The opinions and text are all mine.
It’s Halloween time, which means tons of fun parties and lots of spooky treats!! For this years Halloween bash, try making this super easy “Monster” Marshmallow Pops. Unlike normal cake pops, these are very quick & simple to make.
Monster marshmallow pops require no baking and very little skill. Best of all the look AMAZING when they are done and taste yummy too!
Things You Need
Large or XL Marshmallows
Halloween Sprinkles (orange, black, green or purple)
Black Pen (edible ink for decorating) – optional
Approximate time: After all the ingredients are set-up, it takes about 30-45 seconds to make each pop.
Step-by-Step “How to Make Halloween Marshmallow Pops”
Step 1: Insert the straws into the marshmallows and put them aside.
Step 2: Heat up the candy melt using the instructions on the packet. Add a half teaspoon of shortening to candy melts to make it smooth. You can heat it up a little bit more until you get the right consistency.
Step 3: Cover the marshmallows with the candy melts. It is up to you how much of the marshmallow you want to cover. You can dip the marshmallow into the candy melts and then use a spoon to smooth it around the marshmallow.
Step 4: Decorate the marshmallow pop with eyeballs, candy corn and Halloween sprinkles. They can all be different – feel free to get creative!
Step 5: Stand the marshmallow pop upright to dry. At least 30 minutes.
Step 6 (optional): Wrap the decorated marshmallow pop in a clear bag & tie a ribbon around it. This way kids can save them to eat later.
Step 7: Display in a spooky manner for your Halloween party guests!!
Hope you get more treats than tricks this year! Happy Haunting.

As 2017 draws to an end, this is the time for us to look back and reflect on the year that we are ringing out and focus on making some New Year Resolutions for our family.
Before we get started, let’s take a moment to reflect on:
♦ What are some of the good things that happened this year that you want to continue,
♦ What are some of the not so good things that you would want to forget about; and
♦ What are the new things that you learnt this year, maybe a life lesson that you want to carry over to 2018?
For me, there are the three resolutions to ponder when making my own list for the new year:
Resolution 1 – Reduce your screen time and increase your face-time with family and loved ones.
Our mobile devices are no longer a novelty. Rather, they have become a must-have for most individuals as part of their everyday life. Between the emails, phone calls, texts, social media, task apps, maps and everything else, it’s the first thing we look at in the morning and the last thing we do before we sleep.
This year, try to look away from your mobile device and cherish the time you have with your kids and family. Instead of looking at life from behind a screen, view it first-hand with your own eyes. It won’t be easy, but be mindful and make a conscious effort to do so. Your relationships are precious. Protect them.
Resolution 2 – Stay healthy & get active to ensure that the family’s overall well-being is taken care of.
No more excuses this year, it’s time to really start living a healthy and active lifestyle! Do it for yourself your family. Find ways to incorporate fitness into your daily routine. Opt to take the stairs everyday instead of the lift, park further away, as every extra step counts towards an active lifestyle.
Make a conscious effort to choose healthier food and lifestyle options for your family by eating more vegetables, cutting down on the sugary treats and reducing refined carbs. Even the slightest changes to your lifestyle now will have a great impact on your well-being in the future.
Resolution 3 – As the little ones grow, plan for the future and start early!
You can’t predict the future, but you can plan for it. We live in one of the safest and most prosperous countries in the world, but in this age of volatility, the unexpected can happen to all of us. It is important to create a safety net to ensure security for our family.
If you do not already have life and medical insurance policies in place, this should be the year to look into it. Start planning a smart savings endowment for your child’s education and your own retirement. A bit of savings and investment now will ensure that that your loved ones are taken care of for the years to come.
Sticking these New Year’s resolutions should not have to be a hard or daunting task. Try to incorporate your resolutions into fun family activities. My family recently attended the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival and by attending we were able to follow our New Year’s resolutions, all the while having a super fun time in the process!
With over 40 games and rides to experience from all over the world, the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival is a fun place for all ages and a great way for us to spend some quality family time together. There are many rides to choose from for both the thrill seeker and the young ones, such as the Mach 5, Euro Coaster, Star Flyer, Jungle River, and Apple Coaster, among others.
In between the rides, we tested our skills and took turns playing the games at the booths in the hopes of winning a prize. To our excitement, my little 6 year old son won a stuffed donut by knocking down the pins!
As for our health & fitness resolution, there were a lot of fun activities at the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival that involved throwing, jumping and overall mental focus. We also walked (and sometimes ran) from one end to the other as the massive Carnival grounds spanned across a distance that’s equivalent to 3.5 football fields!
In an effort to win $30 carnival credits, we took part in “The Bounce” creative photo Instagram contest. We also bounced, jumped and spun on a big trampoline. Fingers crossed!
We also got some additional exercise by vigorously riding the fitness bike at the Prudential PruPlayce booth, which featured a meter that lights up! Once we were done, we got some juice with compliments from Prudential. Definitely a perfect quick and healthy pick-me up before we started the games again.
Sticking to your New Year’s resolutions should not be a chore. Find ways to incorporate your 2018 resolutions into enjoyable and memorable family experiences like we did while attending the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival. For more details check out the event website before making your way for a first-hand experience with your family. From now until 1 April 2018, admission is free!
All in all, if we can ensure our family’s security and good health by protecting their interests and spending quality time to bond over what truly matters, we can usher in the New Year well-prepared!
Wishing you and your family the best of luck for 2018!
