Each year we try to find a fun & unique birthday party theme for our kids parties! This year for Zayden’s 9th Birthday, we decided to have a “Bubble Soccer” themed party!!

Many of us probably have never heard of or even seen a “bubble” soccer match. Bubble soccer, or sometimes referred to as bubble football or knockerball, is one of the newest sports here in Singapore! It is not your everyday, traditional soccer match, rather you are enclosed in a big inflatable, plastic bubble fitted with shoulder harnesses and handles inside. A totally interesting concept and super fun for both adults & kids!

Let me share with you some of Zayden’s Bubble Soccer party highlights….

Bubble Soccer Party Theme

Our party theme of course was “Bubble Soccer”! The party colors were green, black & white and it was a mix of soccer and bubbles.

Bubble Soccer Party Experts

For our Bubble Soccer party we decided to have “Bubble Soccer Singapore” host and come up with our party games. Bubble Soccer Singapore is run by Cohesion Pte Ltd, which is well known in Singapore for many of their team-building activities such as Archery Tag, Laser Tag, Dodgeball and more. The perfect party game facilitators for a group of 25, super active nine-year old boys!

Bubble Soccer Singapore came to our party venue (Premier Pitch at Turf City) with all their equipment. They seamlessly handled the set-up and tear-down of the equipment and  also coordinated and facilitated all the games without any help from me!

Let the Bubble Games Begin!

Time for the games to begin! First, the kids broke off into their pre-assigned teams of 5 players each to start.

10 kids could be on the field at a time – Red Team vs. Blue Team. Each game lasted 5 mins and then on the field and the teams rotated to the next set of kids.

Now although this was a “Bubble Soccer” party, the games were not all soccer related. To get the kids used to the plastic bubble the first game was basically to bump and knock over the other team – aka “Bubble Bump”. Last team standing wins.

Once the boys were accustomed to the bubble, it got a bit more complicated. For the next game you had to make it to the other team’s goal post without getting knocked down first – aka “Bubble Dodge” and “Bubble Goal”. Much easier said than done.

Finally, the main attraction – a Bubble Soccer Game!  This is exactly like a normal soccer game (with a ball and everything), except the difference is that you are playing soccer in a BUBBLE! And yes, it is quite challenging!

After an hour and half of rigorous BUBBLE games of bumping, knocking, kicking and dodging, the score was the red team winning some and blue team winning some (we lost track after awhile)! The boys all had a super fun time!

Party Tips for Hosting a Bubble Soccer Party!!

In case you decide to have an awesome Bubble Soccer party of your own, here are some super tips to help you with your party planning…

Choose a suitable party venue. The recommended venue for bubble soccer should be a covered large space. You can choose to do the party outdoors in a field, but the players might get overheated in the plastic bubble during the day or the games might get rained out. Super Note: Make sure your bubble soccer party provider is able to host the games in the venue of your choosing – double check before booking.

Select the right party host. Make sure your bubble soccer provider is experienced with hosting kids parties. A group of adults is much easier to coordinate, then a group of hyped-up kids.

Ensure ample set-up time. The big plastic bubbles take time to blow up. Make sure to account for ample pre-party set-up time for your party game facilitators. Bubble Soccer Singapore arrived 30+ minutes before the scheduled game time to get the bubbles blown up.

Dress the Part. Inform guests on the party dress code – closed toed shoes, no tank tops and comfortable sports gear.

Arrive on Time: Inform guests to arrive at least 15-30 minutes before the scheduled game time. This will allow you to get your teams organized and say your hellos before getting started. Also, take into account the party guests that might arrive late.

Organize your teams in advance.  Organize your party guests in advance and try to equally distribute the players among the teams based on different ages and sizes. Get the birthday boy/girl’s help to organize the teams so some friends can be grouped together.

Hydration. In addition to party food, have lots of cold water and/or drinks for the players. Super Note: Popsicles are also a great party treat that most kids LOVE – especially after rigorous outdoor games.

SuperMommy’s Opinion

Overall the party was a blast!! With so many of our classmates having parties each month, it is very hard to find a fun and unique party theme. This was the first time any of the boys at Zayden’s party had experienced a bubble soccer game or even knew what it was! We were excited to host a super cool party theme that no one else had done before!

We loved the fact that “Bubble Soccer Singapore” was experienced and able to entertain the overzealous boys for over an hour of party game time. The arrived well before time and handled all the games perfectly. One extra bonus that I loved, was that the facilitators helped me take some awesome action shots of the boys playing the games (you never can have enough party pictures)!

If you are looking for a new and exciting party theme for your next kids party, I definitely recommend checking out Bubble Soccer Singapore.

Good Luck & Happy Party Planning!

  • Fancy Straws
  • Shortening (optional)

Whether you are having a fun movie night with friends or an all out movie birthday extravaganza, having popcorn bar at your party is super easy way to make the night stand out from the rest.

For Zayden’s 7th Birthday we had an awesome “Movie Night” themed birthday party.  For the party I created a bunch of my own printables, including red & white food labels our D.I.Y. Popcorn Bar. Please feel free to download and use these popcorn bar food labels for your own movie night party (just for personal use only).

But before you start printing out these free popcorn bar food labels, make sure you read SuperMommy’s helpful “Tips for Setting Up An Awesome DIY Popcorn Bar“.

If you are thinking of planning a movie night for your child’s next birthday extravaganza, you can check out this article,  “Movie Night Themed Kids Birthday Party Ideas” to help with your party planning.

Directions on how to print:

Unlike normal food tent labels, a popcorn bar can have many unique designs. As such, I have provided you with the actual uncut image and you are free to adjust it accordingly to your preference.

  1. Right click on the image and save the jpg to your desktop.
  2. Adjust the size & crop the image to your desired food label size. You can either use these to make a food tent or attach the label to a fancy straw/stick and place it directly into the popcorn bowl.
  3. Print in color on cardstock. Alternatively, print in color and glue to a thick paper, cardboard or signboard.

Super Note: All printables are in their original, large size, so it might take awhile to load on the screen. You can use a photo editing software to adjust the popcorn food label to the size you want. I use PicMonkey.

If you have varying taste buds in your family (like mine), it is hard to please everyone with just one muffin option. Sure you can go to the nearest bakery to buy muffins, but do you really know what “added” ingredients are inside? Here is an easy muffin recipe that allows you to add a variety of fillings to a healthy banana muffin base – it is sure to satisfy all your choosy eaters in the family.

Healthy Muffin Recipe

Author:
Recipe type: Dessert / Snack
Serves: 15 Muffins
Prep time: 10 mins
Cook time: 25 mins
Total time: 35 mins

Ingredients
  • ½ cup Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 cups Flour (sifted)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • ¾ cup Olive Oil
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1¼ cup Mashed Ripe Bananas
  • ½ cup (or more) of Filling - Dark Chocolate Chips, Blueberries, Strawberries and/or Raspberries
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375 F or 190 C.
  2. Add muffin liners to muffin tin.
  3. Mix all the ingredients (except bananas & filling) using an electric mixer (approx 5 mins).
  4. Fold in the bananas.
  5. Stir in the filling(s) of choice.
  6. Pour batter into muffin tins, about ¾th full.
  7. Add extra toppings to the top of the muffin (optional).
  8. Bake for appox 25mins. Check with a toothpick to test if done.
3.3.3070
Super Notes & Tips:

– This is a moderately healthy recipe that includes plain Greek yogurt, olive oil and bananas as a base for the muffins. You can also replace the bananas with homemade applesauce if bananas are not to your liking.

– Make sure you divide the batter before including the filling. I usually make 3-4 different types of muffins at the same time.

– You can include a variety of filling combinations, including strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, walnuts & chocolate chips. My personal favorite filling is dark chocolate chips (you should try this).

-Yummy to eat both cold and warmed up.

– Individually wrap each muffin in clear wrap and store in the fridge for up to a week or in the freezer for up to a month.

– These make great school lunchbox treats or work well as an after-school snack.

Happy Baking & Eating!!

Want to have a slumber party with the fishes & manta rays? Sounds like fun, doesn’t it! Recently we got to have a family “Ocean Dreams” sleepover right next to all the marine animals at the Singapore S.E.A. Aquarium at Resorts World Sentosa.

You can read all the highlights of our family’s exciting experience at the Ocean Dreams sleepover and some useful details & tips in case you too decide to experience this with your own family!

Ocean Dreams Experience Highlights

Let the Adventures Begin!

After many days of anticipation, it was time for us to experience some “ocean” dreams. At 6:30pm, after checking in outside, we were whisked away into the Aquarium to drop off our luggage and start our sleepover experience. We passed crowds of people that were leaving the Aquarium for the day, as we entered for our own late-night adventures.

Once inside, we were given a surprise warm welcome by the golden Sea Goddess who was floating inside the Aquarium and then were given free & easy time to explore on our own. With only 40 people spending the night, the halls and exhibits were all free for us to spend our time and really get to examine the marine life with unobstructed views.

In addition to having the whole place practically to ourselves, there was an activity scavenger hunt and educational activities set up for the Ocean Dream participants.

Once all the activities were completed, bedtime was approaching and it was time for some entertaining, underwater stories and tales by the Sea Goddess.

Up Past Bedtime, Late-Night Fun!

After all the activities, storytelling and exploring were finished, it was time to settle in and have some “late-night” fun of our own! We started off by changing into our pjs and enjoying our “supper” snack.

Boys will be boys and naturally they found a way to get their wigglies & energy out before bedtime. My boys, along with some new sleepover friends decided to use their blankets as capes to play an after-dark game of super heroes, while running around the tank.

Finally it was lights out time and the kids snuggled under their blankets and fell asleep mesmerized by the marine animals swimming by.

Rise & Shine – The Next Morning

Morning came and it was time to rise and shine with some “good morning” wishes from some surprise visitors in the tank.

Although the “dreaming” was officially over, the adventures did not stop there. We all headed over to Adventure Cove Waterpark to eat a hearty breakfast.

After breakfast we went back to the Aquarium to watch the feeding of the Manta Rays.

Then we got an exclusive top of the tank tour to visit the Open Ocean Habitat. No pictures allowed!

It was now close to 10am and the Aquarium would soon be opening to the public. We bid farewell to our ocean friends and heading home with lots of stories to share from our night at the Aquarium!

What is provided at the Ocean Dreams Experience

In addition to the entrance to the Aquarium, activities, tour and accommodations, as part of your Ocean Dreams sleepover, you will be provided with the following:

Two Meals: (1) Supper (chicken meatball sandwich, corn cup and milo) and (2) Breakfast (noodles, dumplings, spring rolls and fried chicken bites).

A Sleepover Survival Kit: The kids bag included a reusable water bottle, toothbrush, activity map and paper hat. The adults bag included a small bottle of water, washcloth and a small inflatable pillow.

Sleeping Gear: Lightweight sleeping bags and blankets are provided.

Accommodations:  Each group is assigned a sleeping area facing the main tank (you do not get to choose which level).  At night you will have access to the bathroom located near the Aquarium entrance of the “Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora”, which has ample toilets and sinks. Shower facilities are also available.

Ocean Dreams Night Time Sleepover Tips

If you want to make yourself a bit more comfortable for your overnight stay here are my following tips:

1. Pillow. Bring your own pillow from home. For those of us not used to sleeping on the floor with no mat, it will be an adjustment for both you and the kids.

2. Blanket. Bring a blanket if you tend to get cold at night (or if you don’t sleep with air condition). It is cold inside the Aquarium.

3. Warm Clothes. Bring warm clothes/pajamas to sleep in.

4. Socks or Slippers. Bring socks or slippers to walk around at night (especially if you tend to go to the bathroom a lot).

5. Ear Plugs & Eye Mask. If you are a light sleeper, make sure to bring ear plugs & an eye mask. Super Note: The lights are dimmed for the night, but the place is not dark and might be too bright for some. Just fyi, someone snored really loudly during our Ocean Dreams experience and you could hear it echoing off the tank at night (good thing I brought my ear plugs).

6. Cards, Games, Books. Bring things to entertain your kids with and do as a family before bedtime. This will help enhance your whole experience.

Super Note: Many people spending the night packed super light. We looked ridiculous with all of our things, but our family was really happy that we prepared in advance and were able to fully enjoy the night. Our boys even brought some books to read, stuffed toys and Pokémon cards to play with. This made them feel more like it was a sleepover and not a “roughing it” camp-out.

SuperMommy’s Opinion

Ever since I found out you could get Resorts World Ocean Suite that looked into the aquarium I was definitely intrigued. An Aquarium suite was one of the places to visit on our kid’s bucket list, but something that is a bit out of our budget for a staycation. An Ocean Dreams sleepover was the perfect alternative for the whole family (and a more unique experience if you ask me). Instead of a tiny window looking into the Aquarium from an ocean suite, we had the full view of the tank in front of us!

Yes, we were roughing it a bit (especially me) having to sleep on the floor and not showering, but it was a lot of fun and definitely memorable. I mean come on – we had a sleepover inside an aquarium! Not many people can say that!

Future note to self: A slumber party at the Aquarium would also be a super cool birthday party “sleepover” experience – something to think about if you are looking for a unique kids birthday venue.

Overall our whole family had a blast. I definitely recommend doing this at least once when your kids are young.

If you want more details about the Oceans Dreams sleepover you can check out the RWS Website. Children are required to at least 6 years old to participate in the sleepover. Ocean Dreams is only offered on certain weekends every month and you need to make a reservation at least 2 weeks in advance (so make sure you plan ahead).

Wishing you Happy Ocean Dreams!

A birthday celebration is in order – KidZania Singapore is turning 2!!! Yes, two amazing years have passed since KidZania Singapore opened its doors at Palawan Beach and now has become a regular edutainment venue for our kids. To celebrate, there are some super special birthday activities and double promotions for the month of April, so keep reading to find out more!

By now most of our kids have been to KidZania Singapore and have experienced the ultra-realistic role-play that the city has to offer. From putting out fires, delivering parcels or cash, editing newspapers, preparing food, pumping gas, or investigating crime scenes – KidZania Singapore uses real-world fun and learning to ready kids for a better world!

Whether you have visited just once, or numerous times, you will notice that the offerings at KidZania Singapore are constantly being updating as our children’s interests diverge. My boys, Zayden (age 9) and Xavion (age 6) have been active KidZania Singapore citizens and the last two years have just flown by.

When KidZania Singapore first opened, my boys would always race to take on jobs as being firefighters, pilots or police officers first. Over the course of our many visits, I have watched my boys’ eagerness to learn and their curiosity evolve. With each visit, they have started asking more knowledgeable questions about the tasks at hand. I have noticed that they no longer jump just for the usual jobs, but rather, explore and understand a variety of different roles that people play in society.

Over time, they have learned that many of the jobs are connected. For example, insurance is required before embarking on a ‘risky activity’ such as mountaineering and a university degree will earn you more kidZos. These are real life lessons that are hard to teach without first-hand experience.

As a parent I have observed my boys achieve new milestones at every visit. From our very first visit, Xavion would check his height against the measurement board for the “wall climbing” activity. Having not yet reached the height requirement, to his disappointment he would be turned away. During our recent visit over the school holidays, Xavion made the height requirement with an extra 1 cm to spare! He climbed the wall not once, but four times just to prove that he could do it!

Xavion’s next goal is to join the Mountaineering School, which requires a 155 cm arm length. Big brother Zayden achieved this last year and has been actively climbing since.

For us parents, KidZania Singapore isn’t actually a bad place to hang-out either. When we get tired of taking pictures for social media (yes, we all do it), we can chill out at the special Parent’s Lounge or at the restaurants located around the City while our kids are busy earning kidZos. We also have had a few opportunities to participate and work side-by-side with our kids in some fun role playing activities during the special family nights. Just so you know, there are 16 roleplay activities us parents can do together with our kids.

In addition to being a great edutainment activity for our kids, KidZania Singapore is also an awesome birthday party venue with numerous party theme possibilities!

Two years have passed, but the fun doesn’t stop there!! KidZania Singapore continues to grow and evolve daily.

Starting this year, KidZania Singapore will be launching a legislative body of elected kids who will come together regularly to share ideas, voice their opinions, and discuss important topics that concern citiZens and tourists of KidZania Singapore. The Inauguration for the first ever KidZania Singapore CongreZZ will be held on 8th April 2018, so make sure you are at KidZania Singapore to support your fellow CongreZZ members!

Now a birthday celebration, just isn’t a celebration with some special festivities, and all of us are invited to join the fun!! KidZania Singapore is having some Zuper special 2nd Birthday DOUBLE promotions in April to celebrate. Read below for all the details! Yippeee!

Special 2nd Birthday Promotions (1) Double Bundles Promotion

Promotion period: 1 – 30 Apr 2018

  • 2 Kid tickets at $88 (UP. $116 )
  • 2 Adult tickets at $55 (UP. $70)

**Valid for walk-in purchase only.

(2) Double the Fun, Double the kidZos Promotion (1 – 10 April)

Kids can look forward to receive double the kidZos for all earning role-play activities!

Kids are encouraged to cultivate good saving habits. The top 10 Kals who have saved the most amount of KidZos in their bank account by 10 April will stand a chance to double their kidZo balance in their bank account! (100 kidZos = 200 kidZos)

Super Note: Earning double kidZos may not seem like a big deal to us parents, but just ask your kids! When I told my boys about the “double kidZo’s” they got really excited. Xavion currently has 610 kidZos in his kidZo bank account and is trying to earn 850 kidZos to buy a pair of, in his words, “really awesome binoculars”, from the special KidZania “kids only” department store.

(3) 2nd Anniversary Carnival Game Booths ( 5 – 15 April 2018)

Kids can purchase a carnival wristband at $10 and enjoy a variety of carnival games where kidZos can be won at every station. Plus, get a birthday pack and a free A5 photograph. Kids can kick off their shoes and dive into a bouncy castle too!

(4) Elections for the KidZania CongreZZ  (8th April 2018)

More information can also be found on the KidZania Singapore website.

—————

Happy 2nd Birthday KidZania Singapore! Looking forward to many more fun and exciting years ahead.

One of the easiest things to do to make your party stand out from the rest, is to have some theme related printables. For Zayden’s 8th Birthday we had a Camouflage Military Laser Tag Party! For this party, in addition to the signs and food labels, I created my own “H2O” and “Hydration” water bottle tags to go along with the camouflage theme. Please feel free to print and use these free party printables for you own camouflage, military or army themed party!

Free Camo Water Bottle Printable Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Right click on the image and save to your computer.

Step 2:  Open a new Word or other text document and “insert” the water bottle label onto the page. Size it according to your preference. Approximately 4 should fit on a page.

Step 3: Print in color

Step 4: Cut out the water bottle label

Emotional Nutrition Tips

Tip #1: Be Positive. Focus your thoughts on the good in your life. When you find yourself dwelling on the negative, make a conscious effort to redirect yourself to what is positive

Tip #2: Explore you relationships. Cleanse toxic people out of your life and keep those you value close by.

Tip #3: Surround yourself with “real” friends. Have face to face meetings with people instead of chatting, texting, and emailing them. Spend less time on social media and more time engaging with those around you in real-time.

Tip #4: Spend time with children. Children exude natural joy and love unconditionally. They give affection freely. They remind of us of what a true heart and beauty really are.

Tip #5: Stay present. Avoid nostalgia – you can’t change or live in the past, always look towards a bright future.

Tip #6: Go into nature: Get sunshine. Go to the ocean, river, or a lake. Be in fresh air. If all else fails, get many plants and a fountain.

Tip #7: Treat yourself. Take time out for yourself and treat yourself to something special. You deserve it.

Tip #8: Smile. Even the act of smiling creates joy in you when you are feeling blue.

Tip #9: Rest, Rest, Rest! A good night’s sleep or a nap can make a world of difference. Stop burning the candle at both ends.

Tip #10: Listen to Music. Music can have a calming effect on your mind. Listen to music that makes you feel good, avoid tunes that have you enter melancholy.

Tip #11: Be Happy. Take time, space and silence to find the happiness inside you and use it as a reference point when you find yourself getting miserable or negative.

Tip #12: Learn to Laugh. Read jokes, watch comedy shows and be around people that make you laugh till tears come out. Learn to laugh with your whole inner being and let it all out.

Tip #13: Wear Colors. Wear bright colored clothing, less black. Surround yourself with bright colors in your home and office to lift your spirits.

Tip #14: Meditate. Take time to meditate on the positives and negatives in your life. Find out what this life is all about.

Tip #15: Learn to love. Learn to love yourself unconditionally. Give love to those around you without fear of heartbreak.

Tip #16: Enjoy your food. Eat slowly and taste the food that you are eating.

Tip #17: Explore your possibilities. Find out what you love to do and do it often!

Tip #18: Make healthy decisions. Make choices that are leading you toward the goal you want to achieve. Steer clear away from decisions that may lead you down the wrong path.

With the fast-paced schedules most of us have in this day and age, it’s hard to remember that joy not stress is at the core of our being. We all need daily easy reminders and tools to have to feed our hearts, just as we feed our body food We all need daily easy reminders and tools to have to feed our hearts, just as we feed our body food.

Remember it’s what you do on a regular basis that counts. You don’t want to binge your relaxation, you want to find moments in your day to balance out everything else. Remember the preciousness of your life and cherish all your moments.  Remember to take time for yourself and give yourself emotional food every single day!

Wishing you lots of happiness & relaxation in the days to come.
