My name is Jess and I am 25 years old! I live in Ontario, Canada and as you can tell, I am obsessed with makeup! I started collecting makeup a few years ago, and I believe I have quite the collection now–which I figured, why not share it with all you lovely people?
I hope you have been doing well and that you had a very Merry Christmas! I had such a lovely holiday with my family…good things are happening and I can’t wait until the New Year!
I only really got into a good skincare routine at the end of this year, so my skincare favourites aren’t over the top in terms of serums, toners, retinols and all that. It is definitely pretty basic as I just started using serums and such not long ago so I don’t really count it as a favourite of 2017.
Best Cleansing Balm
Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm with Echinacea GreenEnvy ($44 CAD): This cleansing balm has changed my life! I like using a makeup remover (you’ll see which one later on in this post) and then going in with this cleansing balm to ensure ALL my makeup is removed. It has a creamy consistency on my face that feels moisturizing yet isn’t greasy like I find the Clinique balm. This one really removes all my makeup that I may have missed with my initial remover, so it is safe to say I’m obsessed!
Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Cleanser Daily Foaming Wash ($48 CAD): This foaming cleanser is soo creamy which I am in love with! It smells so nice and refreshing and my face feels really moisturized once I use it. I’ve been using this daily with my Clarisonic and I love how it foams up – I’ve noticed a big difference in my skin since I’ve been using this and I think this is partially responsible!
Best Makeup Remover
Garnier All-in-1 Cleansing Water Waterproof Makeup: Micellar water has been all the rage this year and for good reason. I don’t use this as a cleanser, but I use it to remove my makeup initially before I go in with a cleansing balm. I find this Garnier Micellar Water, specifically with the waterproof remover works amazingly! I’ve used two bottles this year and I am on my third, which is pictured above! I think this does a great job at gently removing makeup.
Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner ($54 CAD): If you know anything about me, I love anything rose–so it’s a no brainer that one of my favourite items happens to reflect that. I love the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner as it is alcohol free and contains rosewater and real rose petals, which helps nourish the skin. I love how this toner is hydrating and it smells sooo good. I’ve found that throughout the year I’ve used it, my skin is looking much more clear and I think this has to do with it!
Garnier Pure Control Deep Pore Exfoliating Cream Scrub: For some reason I cannot find this anywhere online, but this has been an amazing exfoliator for me! I got this from Winners early during the year and love how the beads foam up and how refreshed my face feels after using this. I like using this every other day as it also has a creamy texture that is suitable for my drier skin.
Best Facial Pads
First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads ($37 CAD): I kind of made up this category but I truly love these Facial Radiance Pads that have come into my life this year! I use these in the morning and I love how convenient they are! Each pad has just enough ingredients to effectively tone, brighten and exfoliate the skin gently. I’m obsessed with using these pads in the morning or if I’m going back and forth to my boyfriends place as it is super convenient to use!
Sunday Riley C.E.O. C + E antiOXIDANT Protect + Repair Moisturizer ($85 CAD): OH MY GOSH THIS MOISTURIZER SMELLS AMAZING! I got this as a 100 point perk from Sephora this year and I loved it so much I ended up getting 5 more point perks with it and then got a full size for Christmas (thank goodness). This has a pretty hefty price tag for a moisturizer, but I feel that it brightens my complexion and I love how it has anti-aging properties in it and how it feels sooo luxurious on. I’ve been using this religiously and I am so in love with it – I can tell this is going to stay!
Best Face Mask
Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask ($45 USD): Ahhh I’m crazy about the smell of this mask! It smells exactly like watermelon and it is so, so good. This jelly-like mask is amazing to wear overnight as it moistens and refreshes the skin. I find when I use this mask my skin peels a bit, which is said to be normal as it gently exfoliates your skin as well. This is the perfect mask to put on at night and then wash off the next morning. I feel much more brightened and rejuvenated once I use it!
Best Skincare Tool
Clarisonic Mia 2 + Sonic Foundation Brush Bundle ($258 CAD): I originally purchased this Clarisonic at Sephora and it came in a set, but the one on the Clarisonic site is the same thing basically, but the one from Sephora is no longer available. The Clarisonic has definitely changed my skincare game this year–I use it once a day (at night) and at first I found that my impurities showed up in the first week of using it, but after that my skin has been really clear! I feel like this cleanses my skin a lot better than my hands. I love how it also has a timer with it, so I know how long to cleanse my face for. I highly recommend the Clarisonic for those who are on the fence purchasing it. It was definitely a game changer for me this year!
That’s it for my favourites! I’m currently looking for an amazing eye cream so if you have any favourites, let me know down below!
I hope you are all doing well. The holiday season is approaching — have you started your holiday shopping yet? I have, and its kind of nice that I started a bit early this year but I am nowhere near done.
Today I have some exciting items from Hard Candy to share with you featuring their holiday collection – the perfect gifts for beauty lovers in my opinion! I’ll be sharing my thoughts as to what I think is worth it and what should maybe be passed.
Right off the bat, I have to say that many of these items are extremely affordable, making great stocking stuffers for gifts this season! Hard Candy has come out with so many items for the holidays, its hard to pass up.
One of their larger releases is the Best of Kit that retails for $19.97 CAD (this is the most expensive item I received to review, so very affordable!) Inside this kit, there is a setting spray, mascara, velvet mousse, liquid eyeshadow, beauty sponge, eye primer, face primer, kohl liner and sharpener, eyeshadow palette, a baked blush trio, a baked bronzer and their widely known Glamoflauge concealer.
With this kit, and as a review entirely– I do wish that the items had names and shades to them. No where on any of the items could I find a shade…everything just says either “Baked Blush Trio” or “Eyeshadow Palette” but doesn’t have a name. That is one thing I would change personally throughout this entire launch of items I received. Although this is the best of kit, I assume these items are regular in their line, so there is no reason why the names could not be mentioned so we could purchase full sized if we ended up liking certain items..
Pictured above is the Baked Blush Trio at the top, the Baked Bronzer in the middle, and then the Glamoflauge concealer. The blush applies beautifully and the bronzer swatched more like a highlight in my opinion but nonetheless, very beautiful. There was no shade for the concealer so you’d really have to take a guess–and this would not be a match for everyone by any means, so thats a bit disappointing.
The Velvet Mousse also did not come with a name, but wore and swatched beautifully (swatch to the left). The eyeshadow palette included in the Best of Kit came with a glitter overlay but most of the shadows actually worked pretty nicely. I loved the champagne colour on the lids and the dark brown in the outer-v. You’ll see later that this palette will re-appear again!
Overall, I think the Best of Kit is a great way to try cult-favourite items from Hard Candy and to see if you like certain items that are popular by the brand for a low price!
Hard Candy has also released a Bath Oil Trio in the shape of hearts and costs only $3 CAD! To me that is an awesome deal and would definitely make a great stocking stuffer gift.
You can find these three Shadow Trio’s for only $4.97 CAD as a set. To me, that is an amaaaazing deal as you are getting three totally different eyeshadows for such an insanely low price.
As you can see from the swatches, two out of the three swatched pretty well. As first impressions, I’d say the last palette (bottom right) barely had any pigment and was very patchy. I’d say this is still worth it for the price as it is so affordable and you are getting two other unique palettes but as a whole, I’m not sure this is a great gift if one of them is a total dud.
Funny enough, one of the palettes (top right) is the same as the Best of Kit, just in a different shaped palette! Therefore, I don’t think both are necessary if you are gifting them to someone. You do get one less shade in the smaller circular palette, just an FYI.
This Face the Finish set is probably one of my favourites and only retails for $4.97 CAD. It includes a Bronzer and Highlight Duo, a Blush Duo, and a Highlight Duo. Hard Candy is known for their amazing highlights, bronzers and blushes so it isn’t surprising that this impressed me. I think this would be an amazing holiday gift to someone, or to even gift to yourself!
I hope you have all been well. Today I’m here to discuss another warm toned palette that has got us thinking, “Is this one worth the splurge?”
The Tarte Tartelette palette is its third in the ‘Tartelette’ collection and this one is a very warm toned vibe. The previous two were cool toned and neutral, whereas this one just screams fall! It retails for $60 CAD, which in my opinion is just the right price for this palette.
The palette contains 12 new shades consisting of seven mattes and five shimmers. To me, thats the perfect combination! These shades are all super pigmented, buttery and blend like a dream.
All the shade names just make me think of fall: cozy…flame…latte…mmm. Makes you want to snuggle with a blanket in front of the fireplace!
I think this is my favourite palette out of the three Tartelette’s – there’s just something so good about this palette! I think its also safe to say that this is one of my favourite warm toned palettes so far.
Out of the first row, my favourite shade is Sunset. It is a warm gold/champagne colour that looks stunning on the lids, especially if you add Fix+ to the mix. When I ordered my palette, Crackle came completely shattered but fortunately Tarte replaced the palette no problem! S’more looks a tad boring but its great to use for the brow bone – I hate when palettes don’t have a shade for the brow bone, so I appreciate that one was included in this palette.
This whole second row is just soo nice. Using warm in the crease, cozy in the outer-v, and then flame on the lid..wow! It truly creates such a beautiful and warm look. You could even use Cashmere to blend out the crease to create more warmth.
Candle and Latte are my favourites in the last row – I kind of wish Fireside was just a hint warmer, but its still a nice bold shade to use to darken up a look.
Overall, I totally think this palette is worth it if you haven’t guessed already. I’m completely obsessed with the richness and pigmented formula of these shadows! I highly recommend picking this up!
Let me know if you’re getting toasted this fall by picking up this palette!
