LVT Flooring stands for Luxury Vinyl Tile Flooring. A man-made hard flooring option which is designed to mimic the look of natural wood, stone or other patterns thanks to its realistic decorative printed film layer. LVT is made from up to 8 layers of artificial materials, starting from the base layer and finishing up at the transparent top coating layer.
Below the transparent top coating layer and above the decorative printed film layer, comes the wear layer. The wear layer is the layer that will gradually get worn away with time from the passage of feet and the movement of furniture.
Stability of the floor comes from its core. The core of the each board is made from WPC, PVC or SPC. WPC stands for Wood Composite Core and together with PVC which stands for Polyvinyl Chloride Core, the two result in softer underfoot feel. SPC which stands for Store Plastic Core is the toughest of the three and often referred to as Rigid Core. Due to its rigid core, SPC is especially popular in commercial settings, though less forgiving underfoot.
LVT flooring has grown in popularity over the last few years for a number of reasons. Depending on the supplier, it is often waterproof and suitable for installation across the entire home. It is also suitable for fitting over underfloor heating due to limited expansion and contraction. Finally, when comparing to wood or stone flooring, it comes with a more cheerful price tag.
If you’re looking for a floor that’s fast to install, easy on your budget, simple to maintain and looks great, LVT flooring should be on your shortlist.

Laminate wood flooring is a great option for home upgrades, and the best place to start using this flooring is in high traffic and high stress areas of your home. Of course, one of the first places that comes to mind is anywhere the kids are with all their toys and games. A floor has probably never seen so much use than in that play room. Carpet just cannot keep up with the energy and drive of children leaving you no choice than to upgrade to something more durable like laminate wood flooring.
Easier to Clean
One of the top reasons to make the switch from carpet to laminate floor is that it is much easier to clean and maintain. When it comes to spills and stains, carpet does not repel those liquids and messes quite as easily. You are left with a choice to either have a stain-covered carpet, or you spend potentially hundreds every few months to get the carpet professionally cleaned.
Options like laminate, engineered wood flooring, or vinyl flooring do not take nearly as much work to maintain. If you spill something on it all you have to do is wipe it up quickly, or clean it with water and floor cleaner. There are other, more professional ways, to clean wood flooring when you want a deep clean, but when it comes to a quick and easy on-the-spot clean it does not take much. With laminate floor you are also able to hide stains more easily. Carpet tends to show every stain, whereas the pattern variations in wood and laminate flooring allow most minor stains and blemishes to blend in.
Laminate Wood Flooring: Strong Enough to Stand Up to Play Time!
Another one of the biggest reasons to switch to laminate flooring is its strength to keep up with children. When it comes to normal wear and tear on floors, wood floors will always outlast carpet and this is especially true when children are involved. Carpets can become worn and frayed when kids are running around or playing with cars and other toys. Too much pull and the carpet can come loose from the floor itself, exposing sharp tacks underneath. If you’ve ever stepped on a line of carpet tacks you know it’s not something you’d ever want to happen to your child!
Perhaps carpet’s one advantage over laminate wood flooring is that it offers more traction when your kids are running around, which can especially be a concern with toddlers who are still unsteady on your feet. If you are worried about slips and falls, you could always put a throw rug over top of the wood. A cheap machine-washable throw rug is easier to keep clean and can be disposed after a while, leaving no trace of any mess.
Overall, laminate flooring is the most cost-effective way to ensure your kids have a good playing surface beneath their feet. It is super easy to clean, and even easier to maintain. You won’t find yourself shutting that room off when company comes over because of the dirty floor. You and your kids will love it and show it off with pride. Make the switch today.
Making the switch from carpet to engineered oak flooring can be a life changing move to upgrade your home. A lot of people will tell you that wood flooring is better than carpet in every way, but what are the true reasons people are making the switch? If you feel like your current carpet is looking fine, you may be questioning whether you really need to spend the money to replace it. These are just a few reasons home owners today are saying “Out with the old and in with the new!”
Easier to Clean
One of the main reasons to make the change from carpet to engineered oak flooring is that wood flooring is easier to clean in every way. After just a few years of constant traffic on carpet it will start to change colour and darken. You can rent an expensive carpet cleaner or higher a carpet cleaning service but that is just money down the drain. If you have a busy household, stains are a carpet’s worst enemy and you are sure to have some. Depending on your home you might even have to replace the carpet entirely multiple times due to the stains from children or pets or just regular use.
Wood flooring does not require that extensive of a cleaning. If you spill something you just have to wipe it up. If it leaves a small sticky spot or stain all it takes is a little warm water and soap and the stains are gone. Pet hair is a breeze to clean too as it won’t get trapped like it does in carpets. Carpets are notorious for trapping other dirt and detritus that engineered oak flooring simply will not. This especially important for people who suffer from allergies as carpet can trap dust, pet dander, and other allergens that will be easily swept up from a wooden floor.
All-Around Appealing Look
Another reason to upgrade to engineered oak flooring is it simply looks better than carpet. You can do so much more with wood flooring than with carpet and have the opportunity to be your own designer. With different colours such as red or white oak flooring, you can create amazing rooms and designs that will be breath-taking. Wood flooring can go anywhere in the house with each place being its own unique space. Carpet comes in about two design features: colour and texture, while wood flooring design features seem to be endless. You even have the possibility to create designs within the floor itself adding even more of a pop to your room. Wooden floors have a timelessness to them, whereas certain styles and colors of carpet can quickly feel dated.
Overall, carpet simply does not match up to the greatness of wood flooring and there are so many reasons, from practical to visual, to upgrade. If you are unsure then just start with one room or a hallway and see how you like it, but it is a safe bet it won’t take long until you want to replace the floors in every room with engineered flooring!
With the new year just around the corner, you may be thinking about home improvement projects for 2019. Whether it’s something as simple as solid oak worktops for your kitchen or workshop, to a large undertaking like flooring installation for one or more rooms, projects and upgrades can be done to any home to give it that extra pop. Home improvement projects are a great way to start fresh and help you reach your other new year goals. Take a look at some of these ideas to get your creativity flowing see where your own project will take you.
Solid Oak Worktops: A Great Surface for Any Project
One of the simplest ways to improve your home is with solid oak worktops. Wooden worktops are great for a multitude of uses throughout a home and can be customised for each purpose. In the shop, you might need a sturdy and strong solid piece of wood that can handle the hit of a hammer. You might not need the same level of sturdiness in a craft room, but a solid worktop makes spills and other messes easier to clean up, and wood is a beautiful neutral background for planning out your creative projects (and taking those Instagram pics after you’re done).
In the kitchen you might want a smaller worktop to use as a cutting board or butchers block. The wood will protect your counter but will not damage your knives as quickly as a glass cutting board would for example. There are many cases where a solid worktop can be used and is often the best material and installing them can be a great weekend home improvement project.
Wood Flooring Transforms a Room
Another great home improvement project you cannot go wrong with is upgrading to solid wood or laminate floors. Wood floors always provide a home with a new look and can completely change the feeling of a room. White wood flooring for example can make your bedroom feel like a beachside cottage or rustic lodge, while a herringbone design can turn a dining room into a hall fit for a feast.
There are so many options that you can go with for wood flooring and the possibilities are endless. Wood flooring can also be installed in the matter of a few days if you get it done professionally. But if you do not want to worry about a total home upgrade project all at once, then you can always elect to do it room by room over the course of the new year. By doing one room at a time, it slows down the pace allowing you to enjoy your project and really get the feeling of satisfaction that home improvement projects bring.
There are so many possibilities for home improvement projects and it does not stop with just these few. With outdoor and indoor projects combined, you can spend as little as a few hours to up to a couple of weeks doing a project. It all depends on you and finding the right project for your time and budget and what you want to see out of your home. Start the new year off right with a home improvement project just for you.
It is no secret the wood flooring is a prime upgrade option for homeowners in every sense. Wood flooring is a much more stylish option than carpet or linoleum. There are numerous choices for the colour, texture, and pattern and with that you have the power to create the exact type of style you want in your home. When it comes to which type of wood flooring to put in your home, the choice comes down to engineered flooring or hardwood flooring. Both can provide you with different benefits, but the choice is ultimately up to you, based on your lifestyle, needs, and budget.
Solid Wood Flooring: Beautiful but Pricey
The pinnacle of wood flooring comes at a hefty price with solid wood flooring. Solid wood flooring is created from whole pieces of wood cut to floor slat size and installed with a coat of varnish or finishing on top. Solid wood flooring is expensive and you are limited in style choices based on natural grain and finishes. This hardwood flooring is the obvious choice for restoring older homes and for luxury remodels, but may not be practical for a young couple’s starter home.
Engineered Flooring: Attractive, Practical, and Versatile
Engineered wood flooring is a composite material made up of small pieces of wood pressed together to make a wood flooring slat. These slats are generally thinner and cheaper to produce (meaning cheaper to buy) than traditional wood flooring. Since they are created, rather than cut from a tree, engineered wood has many more options for design than traditional hardwood. You can find engineered wood in just about any colour and any texture you can think of. One of the many benefits to choosing created wood flooring is the consistency in every piece.
Many people are choosing to purchase engineered flooring rather than hard wood because they want the uniqueness. With the surge in modern styled homes, you are not going to find black solid wood flooring for example. Engineered flooring is also better on the logistical side. With engineered wood flooring, installation is much easier and quicker. No one wants to spend more time and money than they have to on a home improvement project and solid wood flooring can take a long time, as significant delays can be caused by even the slightest mistake.
Engineered wood flooring is not only easier to install, but it is also much easier to clean and maintain. Solid wood flooring requires special care and attention as not to hurt the wood or damage it over time. Composite flooring can withstand more regular wear and tear and can be fixed much easier, which makes it especially ideal for hallway flooringand other high-traffic areas. Homeowners are starting to choose composite flooring over solid wood simply because it is more economic in terms of time and money. People in general have less time to spend treating and maintaining a floor than in the past so they want something that will take less work to keep looking nice.
The choice is ultimately up to you and there are both pros and cons to both, but whichever you choose, your home will look great with new flooring.
One of the best ways to enhance the glamour and style of a home is through the right flooring choice. Wood flooring is a versatile choice for many homes, as the variety of styles and finishes allows you to choose flooring boards that either complement your existing style or serve as the starting point for a redecoration project. Each home is unique in its own way, and that uniqueness is complimented by the custom floor that runs beneath your feet. Finding options for wood flooring in London is easy, no matter what style you are looking for.
The Plethora of Flooring Styles
When you shop for wood flooring in London, you’re not limited to one type of wood or one style of installation. There is laminate and solid wood flooring that comes in all types of colours and textures. Whether you want the rustic feel of cherry oak or the modern look of white birch wood, there is something for every type of taste and style. There are also design techniques for the installation process as well. A room that wants that extra burst of style might shy away from simple installation patterns and might go for a parquet flooring pattern. Even in the parquet repertoire there are numerous design options, so you can choose the one that fits your space and personal aesthetic.
How Do I Decide on a Floor?
The hardest part of getting a new floor is deciding on the type of floor you want. With all the options for wood flooring in London, choosing the right one can be a long process. It all comes down to the look and feeling you want your home or room to express. Most people will use the furniture already in the room as a starting point for choosing a floor. If you have painted walls, or certain wall decorations, that could also be a factor in your flooring choice. It is also important to think about floor coverage as well. Some people install wood flooring with no intention of using area rugs while others prefer large rugs. If you are using a rug, a patterned parquet flooring would be wasted, and wood with a high contrast grain pattern could be distracting.
Price is also a constraining factor for wood floor options. Solid hardwood will tend to cost more than laminate, but there are more customizable options with laminate. Obviously, the size of the area to cover is also a deciding factor. If you want to go with solid wood, but do not want to break the bank, you could always do the larger rooms with wood and leave carpet in the walkways or smaller rooms. It is all about balance. At all price points, there are styles to fit whatever you want to express in your home. The key is doing a little digging and finding what works best for you.
No matter what flooring option you go with, wood flooring is still the best way to finish a room or the entire house. There are options available for all types styles and the right floor is not too far away.
Many people are constantly looking for ways to make their homes pop with character and to create a unique environment that they call their own. What a lot of people do not know, is this all starts beneath the shoes with the type of flooring you have in your home. Laminate wood flooring is the perfect choice for any type of home owner to produce looks that are only limited to the imagination. There are so many designs, colours, and a flooring patterns to choose from. From the rustic outdoor look of cherry hardwood and white oak flooring, to the modern sleek tones of black and white wood flooring, the choice is really up to you.
A Step on the Wild Side
The majority of homeowners choose a more reserved style of hardwood flooring when upgrading their homes. Classic colour and texture options fit almost any type of home and can create a sense of luxury, while coordinating with almost any style of decor. But the true range of hardwood floor potential comes when you incorporate the less common flooring options to get a truly one of a kind look.
Black and white wood flooring is a perfect example of using flooring to present a level of creative expression like no other. This type of flooring goes great with a more modernistic type of furniture and appliance selection, such as stainless steel kitchen appliances and white marble counter tops. When you imagine black and white flooring in a home, the first thing that comes to mind is probably something out of a fancy avant garde design catalogue, or an architecture magazine featuring elegant and custom homes for those who take design in its highest regard. Well, this dramatic style of flooring is not restricted to magazine homes and will look good in the home of anyone who is ready for the cool rush and intensity of the boldest floor on the market.
Affordability Plus Quality
The first step to any home renovation is the price at which you are willing to pay. The great thing about black and white flooring is it is coloured and treated just like any other laminate or hard wood flooring. The majority of the time when you purchase flooring, you are not paying for the colour, but rather for the quality of the floor. This makes black and white wooden flooring extremely affordable and very comparable to other coloured flooring you might get instead. You might pay a little extra for the specialty of it, but nothing that is going to break the bank and certainly not as much as you might expect when you set out to capture the style of a modernist home from a design catalogue.
Overall, black and white flooring boards are a very popular choice in home floor design and the options are endless of what you can do with it. At very reasonable prices, you can have the floor of your dreams and the home of the century. Just give a call and see where your floor can take you.

A Modern Look
Grey-white wood flooring specifically is a very popular design choice when decorating modern flats and houses. It creates a sense of ‘now’ that never goes away, without veering too far into a futuristic aesthetic. This style of flooring is usually coupled with stainless steel and white furniture and dark stone patterns on countertops or cabinet accents. The opposite colours create a contrast while there is a sense of sleekness to the wood that brings about a look in the home that is straight out of a magazine.
One of the best elements of grey flooring is the incorporation of unique installation patterns. Herringbone flooring is a great way to add that extra design element to your home and coupling that with grey flooring can give a home that extra pop. You have unlimited potential with herringbone patterns to create a home that is truly unique to you. It is the home of the modern artist, the businessman that gets his successful drive from creativity, the fashion designer who understands the importance of style. Grey flooring gives off the sense that nothing can hold you back or stop you from being the best you possible.
Grey and white flooring can come both in hardwood and laminate flooring, as well as textured patterns, depending on the desired look. You can get the hardwood oak rings that make you feel like you are walking in a forest, or maybe more of a birch tree on a snowy afternoon look. Because of its bold look, it can be used as both a standard floor, or an accent to compliment an existing floor. The possibilities are endless and no matter what you decide, you will not regret it. You can even carry over the look created by white grey flooring beyond your floors. This colour looks great as furniture pieces and kitchen cabinets or islands. With the aesthetic that grey-white floorboards bring to a home, and the statement it makes, you are sure to be very happy with your choice. From all the intricate design patterns to the detail of the wood slats themselves, you can create an atmosphere that is simply breath-taking.
Linoleum has a short history of existence and an even shorter history of widespread use. Although it was created in the mid-1800s by accident, lino flooring didn’t gain popularity until the 1950s. It’s created using a mixture of solidified linseed oil and ground wood products over sheets of cotton canvas. From the time of its inception, its purpose was always to create a more durable alternative to wood flooring options.
Properties of Lino Flooring
Linoleum is mainly used in high traffic areas because its level of durability far surpasses that of traditional wood flooring. Office buildings and businesses often embrace linoleum as the smart choice due to the volume of people walking across their floors every day.
In the early twentieth century, the decks of Navy ships used a high-grade linoleum finish that was referred to specifically as “battleship linoleum.” Of course, in your home you might not need the battleship strength, but if you have children or multiple pets with long claws, a high-grade linoleum floor might be just the thing for your family. Some people might need different levels of durability in their flooring because they are more prone to potential damage to the floor (for instance, if your children are prone to forgetting to remove their football cleats before walking through the house…). There are options available to make sure you get the best type of flooring you need. The many options of linoleum flooring are what make it very versatile.
Linoleum versus Vinyl
Linoleum and vinyl flooring exhibit a lot of the same properties as alternatives to wood flooring. The key difference between the two, however, is that linoleum is made from all-natural materials, while vinyl is a synthetic blend created to bring about the same result.
In the past, there has a negative connotation surrounding these alternative flooring options as some would look at them as cheap knockoffs to traditional wood. It is true they are relatively less expensive than wood flooring, but today’s high-quality lino and vinyl floor options are a far cry from the peeling linoleum in your first bachelor pad.
Linoleum and vinyl serve a great purpose in a home. In areas of the home with a high level of dampness or a chance for liquid spills, such as bathrooms and kitchens, wood flooring does not generally hold up well. If wood gets too wet, it can warp and lose its shape, essentially ruining a beautiful and costly floor. Vinyl and linoleum do not react this way under moist conditions and their flexibility keeps them from losing their shape. Wood flooring also has a higher chance of getting dents if something heavy is dropped on it. Again, the flexibility of linoleum and vinyl keeps this from happening.
Imagination is the Limit
Another great property of linoleum flooring is the endless designs linoleum can come in. It can be made to resemble wood grain or can have different patterns and shapes and colour combinations. Linoleum and luxury vinyl flooring can even come in tiles of various sizes instead of rolled sheets. Ordering custom flooring can give your home that extra kick of style that wood flooring cannot because the design options are totally in your hands. It is never too early to make a change and when you do, you will be happy you did.
