OK, this bathroom makeover was in the making for so long that I almost forgot to share it on the blog. And it actually started with a TV going up on the wall in the living room a whole year earlier. Yes! You got that right! The TV was going up on the wall leaving an old, a bit tired but still pretty cabinet without a purpose. Then and there in my head that old TV cabinet became a vanity unit. I just needed to convince Rob to my idea… A year later we started our cheap bathroom makeover… But let me start by showing you what my bathroom looked like before. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t pretty either. It was the only room in the house that didn’t get much of my attention. Apart from the weekly cleaning and few pretty baskets. But with time it definitely needed more than just pretty baskets. As the full revamp was out of the question, I started to think what else I could change without spending too much money. Quickly new vinyl flooring was on the agenda along with some new colours on the wall. Vinyl flooring is one of […]

I don’t really read horoscopes, but when I saw a design horoscope, of course I was interested (or even intrigued). Because as some people take little notice of their zodiac sign, others can’t make any decisions without “consulting the stars”. I’m definitely the first type, which is rather weird considering I was raised in a home where every Friday night my mum would turn into a little future teller with a pack of cards in her hand. (If you didn’t know, Friday night is the best time for “reading the cards”) But whichever type you are, you might want to take this post with a pinch of salt and definitely not too seriously. But who knows… it may actually help you with your design dilemma. Because if the stars had their say on what kind of people we are, they might be responsible for the way in which we decorate our homes too. Let’s check out what your zodiac sign tells about you! An interior design for every zodiac sign   Aries (March 21–April 19) (that’s me) Colour: red Always busy. They don’t like pastel colours. And definitely not for them are neutral interiors. They like challenges and get […]

Christmas right? When did that happen? And where another year of my life has gone? But I’m not here to talk about my life. I already did that in my last post. Today I’m bringing you my homemade Christmas decorations ideas. Although none of them will be featured in our house until the very Christmas Day! The reason? Walls are down, floors are out and a thick blanket of dust everywhere. And I’m sitting here, surrounded by piles of furniture with a cup of tea, Baileys chocolate, singing Christmas songs and creating homemade Christmas decorations… That’s the magic of Christmas! But obviously I’m gonna have to start on some “more important jobs” soon, so I’m actually bringing you just one new Christmas decoration and another two are from last years’ post (but because no one was really reading my blog back then, it’s ok if I share them with you again). So let’s crack on… My homemade Christmas decorations  Wood peg stars So my wood peg stars have been the feature of my Christmas tree for the past few years now. They are a little bit fiddly, but only because I forgot to buy a good quick drying glue […]

As my blog is heading towards its first year anniversary I started to wonder how my life has changed in the past year and since I started blogging? Am I where I was hoping to be? Is my blog successful?  Do I still enjoy it as much as I used to? And how on earth did I even get to writing this post? I have to warn you though! If you’re here for interior inspirations, press Escape! (or here) If you’re here to see beautiful photos of beautiful homes, press Escape! (or here) Or if you’re here to read a story of a girl that have become abominably rich, you can press Escape too (or here), becasue that’s not the kind of story either.. In fact you don’t have to read it at all! Just press Escape and go home (it’s just a saying, you don’t really have to go home, unless you are at home, in that case you may as well just read it, and get even more bored than you’re already are)   But let’s go back to the beginning of this boring blogging story At the beginning there was a girl (that’s me) who thought […]

If you’ve renovated your home before, then you probably know that flooring can make or break the property. But that does not necessarily mean going for the most expensive option! Laminate flooring is a great alternative to wood flooring and can look as good as the real thing! In fact, with today’s advanced technologies you even won’t be able to tell the difference! But what laminate flooring really is? Can it be used in every room? And is it really easy to lay laminate flooring yourself?   As we’re about to embark  on our biggest renovation project yet, new flooring is pretty much on the agenda right now. And as much as I would love to have real wooden floors, our budget just doesn’t stretch that far. Therefore my attention went all on laminate flooring. It is not just more affordable option but it’s also easier to install yourself (and that means double savings here). But  let’s start with a little bit of explanation… What is laminate flooring? Laminate flooring is made from HDF (High Density Fibreboard) with a high-resolution photo that features the design and a resin top layer with a texture that follows the design underneath. That […]

OK, this post about upcycling and upgrading has not been planned at all! Me and the kids went to Hamburg for few days during the half term holidays to visit our family. All we had planned was for some quality family time and exploring the city. And that’s exactly what we did! But with my brother’s older son’s kin interest in art and my interest in design we decided the trip to the museum was a must! So I came back not only with fresh memories filled with giggles of our kids, new family photos and feeling regenerated in general. I also came back with loads of photos of great designs, upcycling projects and great art. And that, my dear, would be a shame not to share with you all! So, if you’re wondering what the hell I’m talking about, here’s a little explanation… Museum fur Kunst und Gewerbe (MK&G) is a museum in Hamburg and in exact translation (yeah, you guessed it) it means Museum of Art and Industry. Pure Gold! Upcycled! Upgraded! is one of their temporary exhibitions that can be viewed until January 2018 before it will be shipped to Thailand to continue its world tour. […]

Couple of weeks ago I was talking about how quickly Autumn is approaching (and the importance of pretty tea mugs). Here we are, almost ready to set our clocks back one hour to prepare ourselves for the winter months ahead. I’m such a sleepy head, I wouldn’t mind swapping my place with a bear and fall into a long, deep sleep…  But no time for that! There are walls to demolish, kids to feed and door wreath to make! As the first two can wait, my attention last week was all on our front door. The abundance of fallen leaves and hanging flower baskets filled with dead flowers gave me an idea… My DIY door wreath with leaf roses The idea was to turn those full of colour leaves into autumnal roses and display them on my DIY door wreath along with some other decorations.  And if you think that sounds like something very complicated, you couldn’t be more wrong! If you’re visiting my blog for the first time, then you should know I’m all about easy and budget friendly here! And if that’s what you’ve come for, that’s what you get! (no small print, ha!) So let’s get […]

OK, let’s get things straight. By “this art is on fire” I mean LITERALLY ON FIRE! So not for the faint hearted and definitely not for those of you who don’t like the smell of smoke! Brace yourself, as there will be a lot of it! But on the positive side, you don’t need any skills for this DIY ART and in fact you might not even need to spend a single penny. That’s if you’re a smoker. Or if you have recently quit smoking and you don’t know what to do with those few boxes of matches that are still in your drawer. (And hey, no judging here, I’m an ex smoker myself). In any other case you may have to spend couple of pounds on this DIY art top!  But I guess you might already have everything in the house. And here’s exactly what you’ll need for this HOT DIY ART: 10 packs of matches a lightener a piece of card PVA glue ruler and a pencil acrylic paint and a fine paintbrush (optional) How to: Start by marking a centre of the card as that will be the centre of your art as well. Use […]

I put the kettle on, take couple of tea mugs out  and while waiting for the tea to brew I start to wonder… It seems like we only just said goodbye to the summer and we’re in October already! Dark, cold evenings are just around the corner. In fact they’re already here (like they couldn’t wait any longer) There’s something sad about this time of the year. It might be the falling leaves, or the grey clouds or the moist in the air.  Or maybe it’s the combination of it all… But there’s something pleasurable in those dark, cold autumnal evenings too! There’s something pleasurable in those falling leaves and grey clouds and even in that moist in the air…It’s that feeling of slowing down after a busy summer. Instead of running around the park with the kids, we can stay at home and watch TV together without the guilt of not spending this time outdoors. And it’s those long cold nights that are perfect for curling up on your favourite chair, wrapped up in a blanket with a book in one hand and a mug full of your favourite tea in the other…  Can you imagine that? Good! […]

If you’ve been following for a while, then I’m sure you’ve already seen some photos of my bedroom makeover (OK, quite a lot of them…) Especially if you’re on Instagram, where I seemed to spam my account with my new bedroom almost every day. If that’s the case, then I’m sorry, I couldn’t help myself. I just love my new bedroom! But because there is a slight chance that you haven’t seen it yet I’m gonna go through it all again. Besides… there’s nothing better than a good, old before and afters, right? Because my bedroom makeover was a rather  lengthy process (as it was unplanned), and because I was reporting everything on my blog as it happened, I will just quickly remind you about all the changes that I’ve made. But first let’s start with that BEFORE photos… Before my bedroom makeover There was nothing particularly wrong with the room, but it was (there’s only one word to describe it)… BORING! White walls, which I used to love, a quote above the bed and my first attempt at playing with colours  with that yellow cushion. I think it stopped being ME about two years ago, and only few […]
