I wasn’t actually planning on sharing with you my latest painted furniture project but it came out so nice that it would have been a shame not to. Besides it’s been ages since I did a proper furniture makeover post that actually involved painting. I think the last one I did on here was for my daughter’s bedside cabinet.  But thanks to my non existing SEO skills back them, the post quickly disappeared into the world of the internet. So the chances are that you’ve never actually seen it… (and if you haven’t hop over here) The true is that painting is still my favourite way of updating furniture. So why shouldn’t I be sharing with you guys things that I like to do the most?! Exactly! So here’s my latest painted furniture: my vintage trolley makeover I know that distressing furniture is not as popular and on trend as it was few years ago. Probably I don’t use this technique as often as I used to but I still do it. So if you’re a fan of distressed painted furniture look you may want to stick to the end of this post. Or if you want to know […]

Bohemian style ( boho style or boho chic, as it is often referred as) has been popular for the past few years. And it seems that it is not going anywhere this summer. This relaxed and simple style is so easy to live with that people just don’t want to see it go. But this year it’s even better. It’s all about the colour! It is one of those trends that stick with us for longer and stop being trends only to become our lifestyle. My personal style may not be bohemian all year round, but every summer our living room turns into a colourful boho style oasis that everyone wants to hang out in. But how easy it is to achieve the look? And what if your personal style is different but you still want to add some boho style to your living room? No problem! It’s easier than you think! How to add a colourful boho style to your living room? What’s so great about this style is that it is actually an eclectic mix of styles. There’s no one way with bohemian. Every house is different and it represents people living in the house rather than […]

Few days ago I read somewhere that if you grow your confidence using blue, then you’ll have a colour scheme for every room! I looked around my blue room and realised that this couldn’t be more true. I was never very confident with colours, but somehow blue was always featuring in our house. Blue colour kept appearing and I kept on adding it with no second thoughts.  And the house evolved around it somehow. And I guess, that’s the power of blue. It somehow always works! But apart from being my long time favourite blue colour is also the easiest to decorate with! So if you’ve been itching to add some colour to your home decor, but you’re not quite sure where or how to start, then blue is your answer. Why? Blue is the colour of the sky and the oceans. So whichever shade you’ll go for, it will always bring happiness to your home. Because who doesn’t like to look at the sky twinkling with the stars or go for a dip in a turquoise sea  water? Exactly! We all love it. And that’s why blue colour is the nation’s favourite. And if it’s not your favourite, […]

If you’re looking for some girls bedroom ideas, you’ve come to the right place! As my daughter is preparing herself for a move to a big school and with SATs exams in the next couple of weeks, we both felt her room needed a little rethink. OK, I thought! But she happily agreed! Her old Ikea desk was way too small for her. And shoved into to the corner of the room it did not give her much space for creativity! As I was just moving my own small office space from our bedroom to newly created space downstairs, I agreed to give away my old Ikea desk. Excitedly she accepted the offer as my desk, although not big at all, was much bigger than hers. So, she has a desk! But that’s not enough! I needed to figure out how to create a cool homework space to encourage her creativity too. If you’re a parent of a kid in a certain age, then I’m sure you know (and let’s just call it what it is) they can get a bit lazy! It is so much easier to pick up a phone and chat with friends for hours or […]

This post should have been written at least a month ago. But who thinks about buying outdoor furniture in the middle of the winter? In the first week of March we saw the biggest snowfall in years. So instead of looking at some new outdoor collections we actually went and bought a pair of plastic sledges for the kids. And although the snow was gone within few days, it seemed that the cold weather was a little bit more reluctant to leave. So here we are, mid April, still waiting for that heat wave they’ve promised (no signs yet!) But apparently the spring is on its way and we will be able to actually seat in the back garden in the next few days. And in case you were wondering, my little round-up of the best outdoor furniture, may actually be helpful… Or even very helpful, as some of the deals are as hot as a summer… somewhere else obviously! (Sorry, couldn’t resist, my brain has been frozen for too long). Anyway, let’s cut this crap talk and get to the point… The best hot deals for outdoor furniture Let’s start with the place, we all head to for […]

Old wood has become so popular in the last few years that the prices of old pieces on internet are just bonkers. What is more, often it is cheaper to buy new rather than old wood. Not that long ago europallets, scaffolding boards or just pieces of old wood were given away for free. Now you have to pay for them so much that even your piggy bank would run away to the woods. Not to mention the prices of hardwood furniture. So you settle on something more piggy bank friendly, and decorate your house with MDF boxes. Nothing wrong with that. But if you’re still dreaming of that old wood dinning table you’ve seen in a magazine, you need to stop dreaming and roll up your sleeves! Because if you can’t afford it you have to make it! Well, fake it to, but who cares? Hardwood or softwood? There are two types of wood: hardwood and softwood. Hardwood is usually darker in colour. I’s heavy and much more durable (thus the name hard-wood). Furniture made of hardwood last many years but are also more expensive. Softwood, as the name suggests, is much softer, thus less durable. It’s more […]

So, here we are! It’s March. The blizzards, storms and all the other beasts are gone. And finally the hopes that the spring is on its way, are back! About time, I’d say! March is also the time that we all like to give our homes a little spruce (well, at least I do), buy something new and maybe bring a bit of colour in too. So how about new living room rugs? Did you know that a new rug can completely transform the look of your room? Any room in fact! If you follow me on Instagram then you have probably seen me flaunting with my new living room rug recently. And to be honest, it is one of the best purchases we’ve made. So I guess that would make the flaunting totally understandable, right? But just in case, here it is again! As much as I love my new rug, choosing one was not an easy decision to make. There are so many options out there. There are modern rugs, vintage rugs, oriental, Persian, indoor and outdoor rugs. It’s easy to get confused. And that’s why I decided to save you some time and bring you few […]

OK, this bathroom makeover was in the making for so long that I almost forgot to share it on the blog. And it actually started with a TV going up on the wall in the living room a whole year earlier. Yes! You got that right! The TV was going up on the wall leaving an old, a bit tired but still pretty cabinet without a purpose. Then and there in my head that old TV cabinet became a vanity unit. I just needed to convince Rob to my idea… A year later we started our cheap bathroom makeover… But let me start by showing you what my bathroom looked like before. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t pretty either. It was the only room in the house that didn’t get much of my attention. Apart from the weekly cleaning and few pretty baskets. But with time it definitely needed more than just pretty baskets. As the full revamp was out of the question, I started to think what else I could change without spending too much money. Quickly new vinyl flooring was on the agenda along with some new colours on the wall. Vinyl flooring is one of […]

I don’t really read horoscopes, but when I saw a design horoscope, of course I was interested (or even intrigued). Because as some people take little notice of their zodiac sign, others can’t make any decisions without “consulting the stars”. I’m definitely the first type, which is rather weird considering I was raised in a home where every Friday night my mum would turn into a little future teller with a pack of cards in her hand. (If you didn’t know, Friday night is the best time for “reading the cards”) But whichever type you are, you might want to take this post with a pinch of salt and definitely not too seriously. But who knows… it may actually help you with your design dilemma. Because if the stars had their say on what kind of people we are, they might be responsible for the way in which we decorate our homes too. Let’s check out what your zodiac sign tells about you! An interior design for every zodiac sign   Aries (March 21–April 19) (that’s me) Colour: red Always busy. They don’t like pastel colours. And definitely not for them are neutral interiors. They like challenges and get […]

Christmas right? When did that happen? And where another year of my life has gone? But I’m not here to talk about my life. I already did that in my last post. Today I’m bringing you my homemade Christmas decorations ideas. Although none of them will be featured in our house until the very Christmas Day! The reason? Walls are down, floors are out and a thick blanket of dust everywhere. And I’m sitting here, surrounded by piles of furniture with a cup of tea, Baileys chocolate, singing Christmas songs and creating homemade Christmas decorations… That’s the magic of Christmas! But obviously I’m gonna have to start on some “more important jobs” soon, so I’m actually bringing you just one new Christmas decoration and another two are from last years’ post (but because no one was really reading my blog back then, it’s ok if I share them with you again). So let’s crack on… My homemade Christmas decorations  Wood peg stars So my wood peg stars have been the feature of my Christmas tree for the past few years now. They are a little bit fiddly, but only because I forgot to buy a good quick drying glue […]
