Reigning Champion Jared Mees Hits Grand Slam with Ninth Win of Season – Indian Motorcycle Privateer Kenny Coolbeth Jr. & Wrecking Crew Rider Brad Baker Finish Second & Third, Respectively

WEEDSPORT, NY (JULY 10, 2018) – Indian Motorcycle Racing and its championship-winning Scout FTR750 continued its unbelievable season at the New York Short Track by securing yet another podium sweep. Through 11 races, Indian Motorcycle Wrecking Crew riders and privateers have combined for a total of eight all-Scout FTR750 podiums. The win marked Jared Mees’ ninth of the season and second consecutive year of hitting a grand slam on the Scout FTR750. Completing the podium sweep were Indian Motorcycle privateer Kenny Coolbeth Jr. (Nila Racing, Columbia Avionics, Bell, TCX Boots, Vanson) and Wrecking Crew rider Brad Baker, who finished second and third, respectively.

The New York Short Track Main started with Baker in the number one spot. Mees battled Baker through the first 10 laps, ultimately making the pass and stretching his lead through the remainder of the Main. Coolbeth continued his fight, passing riders to reach third. Coolbeth didn’t let up, though, as he made a pass on Baker in the final lap to secure second and his fifth top-five finish of the season. The third-place finish was Baker’s eighth top-five finish and third podium of the season.

“It’s incredible to have this race complete the grand slam this season. It’s a prime example of the support I have with my crew,” said Mees. “We worked through a lot, and when it mattered most they had my Scout FTR750 fully dialed for the Main Event.”

Joining Mees, Coolbeth and Baker as top finishes were Indian Motorcycle privateers Davis Fisher (Double D Performance, Bob Lanphere, Beaverton Motorcycles, RMR, Parkinson), Henry Wiles (Bandit Industries, Wilco Racing, Willy Built, Mad Dog), and Briar Bauman (Zanotti Racing, Roof Systems, Western Powersports, Hard), who placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, aboard their Scout FTR750.

“It’s awesome to see Mees get his second career in-season grand slam,” said Gary Gray, Vice President – Racing, Technology & Service for Indian Motorcycle. “He’s earned himself a healthy lead in the points standings, but there’s still some big-time tracks coming up on the schedule, so it’ll be exciting to see how he and the other riders perform.”

Through 11 races, Mees continues to control the leaderboard with 245 points, while Wiles ranks second with 167 points and Baker in third with 147 points. Jeffrey Carver Jr. (129) and Coolbeth (125) are fourth and fifth, while Bauman (117), Chad Cose (106), Fisher (103) and Bryan Smith (99) rank sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth.

Smith, who did not attempt to start Semi 1, will go in for surgery on Wednesday, July 11, to repair screws that came loose in the leg he broke earlier this season at the Texas Half-Mile. Smith is targeting a return for the next American Flat Track race, The Buffalo Chip TT on August 5.

Next up, Mees, Baker and Cose will join four other American Flat Track riders and travel overseas to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England from July 12-15. The four-day celebration of motorsports history, design and technical achievement will further introduce the Indian Motorcycle riders and the Scout FTR750 to a global fan base.

Following the Goodwood Festival, select Indian Motorcycle riders will stop in Minneapolis for X-Games on Sunday, July 22. The American Flat Track season will continue its season on August 5 at The Buffalo Chip TT in Sturgis, South Dakota, followed by a quick turnaround with the Black Hills Half-Mile in Rapid City on August 7.

Pastrana Exceeds Two of Knievel’s Most Famous Records and

Lands Caesars Palace Fountain Jump 50 Years After Knievel’s Legendary Crash

LAS VEGAS (Sunday – July 8, 2018) – Sunday night, in front of an estimated 25,000 fans watching in-person from Las Vegas and more tuning in live on television across North America, action sports superstar Travis Pastrana celebrated Evel Knievel during the unprecedented HISTORY® live event, “Evel Live.” Produced in partnership with Nitro Circus, “Evel Live” saw Pastrana pay homage to Knievel’s legacy as he set out to recreate three of the American legend’s most iconic jumps. Pastrana pushed the limits even further though, breaking Knievel’s famous car and Greyhound bus jump records before completing the epic Caesars Palace fountain jump that left Knievel grasping for his life 50 years ago. Shortly after Pastrana took a celebratory dive into the Caesars Palace fountains to cap off the night, #EvelLive trended at #1 on Twitter.

Travis Evel - YouTube

“I’m thrilled to have had this opportunity to honor Evel Knievel, whose guts and showmanship created the foundation for action sports,” Travis Pastrana said afterwards. “Evel pushed himself and flew further on a motorcycle than anyone thought possible. So with this modern day tribute we wanted to bridge generations – from my parents generation who was inspired by Evel to the generation after me who may not know much about the original stunt men who paved the way – HISTORY® and Nitro Circus wanted to show just how incredible his accomplishments were. To be able do that in Las Vegas and at Caesars Palace, where Evel’s legend was born, is so awesome.”

In just three hours and under the pressure of a live TV broadcast, Pastrana first topped Knievel’s 1973 jump over 50 crushed cars by soaring more than 143 feet in the air over 52 vehicles. Then he surpassed Knievel’s 1975 jump over 14 buses, flying nearly four stories high and covering a jaw-dropping 192 feet to clear 16 modern-day Greyhound buses. In order to make room for the massive setup these jumps required the production teams from HISTORY® and Nitro Circus to take over the space behind Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, Paris Las Vegas and Bally’s Las Vegas.

Afterwards, Pastrana took to the streets with a police escort to ride to the Caesars Palace jump site. Fans quickly lined Las Vegas Boulevard, exchanging high-fives with Pastrana from taxis and the side of the road as anticipation for the finale built. The motorcade quickly closed The Strip.

Then Pastrana faced the Caesars Palace fountain jump that nearly took Knievel’s life a half century ago after his infamous crash. As if that wasn’t daunting enough, given the expansion of Caesars Palace since Knievel’s ill-fated attempt, Pastrana had only a 200-foot run-in to accelerate to the 70-mph speed necessary to clear the fountain. Pastrana also had to contend with stifling heat reaching 102 degrees and, just before the event, potential thunderstorms. Even in ideal conditions and if he hit his speed marks perfectly, Pastrana would land with just a few feet to spare. But, after arcing over the fountains, Pastrana touched safely down on the landing ramp to the roaring crowd and a flash of pyrotechnics.

This electrifying event paid tribute to Evel Knievel in every possible detail. From Pastrana riding a Indian Scout FTR750, a modern day evolution of the flat track motorcycles of the past — and very different from the modern-day dirt bikes Pastrana usually rides – to the white leather suit and helmet decked out in American stars and stripes just like Knievel’s classic livery, these specifics illuminate how much Knievel achieved and the impact he has had on generations of fans.

“Evel Live” launched HISTORY’s second annual “Car Week” in breathtaking fashion. Upcoming “Car Week” programming includes “Hot Rods and Muscle Cars” (Monday, July 9), “Truck Wars” (Tuesday, July 10), “Speed Demons” (Wednesday, July 11) and “Hot Wheels: 50th Anniversary Special” (Thursday, July 12). All times 8pm ET/7 Central.

North America can look forward to more daredevil thrills from Travis Pastrana and Nitro Circus this fall with the world debut of the “You Got This” tour, kicking off September 28. Pastrana will also throttle up on four wheels when he competes in the inaugural Nitro Rallycross, part of the groundbreaking Nitro World Games action sports competition, coming to Salt Lake City on September 22 and 23. Then in Spring 2019, Nitro Circus returns to Las Vegas in a big way, launching its first-ever resident stage show at Bally’s Las Vegas.

“Evel Live” was produced by Nitro Circus Media Productions in partnership with HISTORY® and Caesars Entertainment. Trip Taylor and Dave Mateus are executive producers for Nitro Circus Media Productions. Zachary Behr, Sean Boyle and Mary E. Donahue were executive producers for HISTORY®.

USMC Veteran, Tyler Southern to Receive Trike

He is an inspiration for wounded American veterans. Southern is a 2015 Bob Hanson Distinguished Service Award Recipient. The Buffalo Chip made a vow to help Southern regain his freedom to ride by building a custom trike so he can once again enjoy the open road. The specially modified trike will be presented to Southern on the Buffalo Chip Main Stage. The trike was rebuilt and modifications were made by Norm Lovelace with assistance from Justin of Von Metal V-Twin Racing HD Performance in Reno, NV.

Reigning Champion Jared Mees Wins Eighth Race of Season – Indian Motorcycle Privateers Jeffrey Carver Jr. & Henry Wiles Complete the Scout FTR750 Podium Sweep

LIMA, OH (JULY 2, 2018) – Indian Motorcycle Racing’s Scout FTR750 continued its dominance at the Lima Half-Mile with its seventh consecutive podium sweep of the 2018 American Flat Track season. Reigning Champion and Indian Motorcycle Wrecking Crew rider Jared Mees took first place, marking a monumental win at his home track and securing his eighth victory of the season. Indian Motorcycle privateers Jeffrey Carver Jr. (Roof-Systems, Indian of Metro Milwaukee) and Henry Wiles (Bandit Industries/Wilco Racing/Willy Built) rounded out the all-Scout FTR750 podium with second and third-place finishes, respectively.

Mees was seeking redemption on Saturday night at the Lima Half-Mile as this was the only race he did not finish on the podium in the 2017 season. Determined, Mees edged out the competition early in the race and held the lead throughout the Main. Carver bolted to the second position and managed to close the gap between him and Mees in the second half of the race, but Mees was able to maintain his lead and further his lead in the 2018 points standings.

“I’ve had my sights on winning Lima ever since last year. This is a tough track and getting this win is especially meaningful for me,” said Mees.  “I have to thank my team who does an incredible job at keeping my Indian Scout FTR750 in top form.”

In his first race on the Indian Scout FTR750, Indian Motorcycle privateer Briar Bauman (Zanotti Racing/Roof Systems/Western Powersports) finished fourth. Wrecking Crew rider Brad Baker battled his way to his seventh top-five finish of the season.

“The Lima Half-Mile is one of the most challenging races of the year, and we’re thrilled to see another Scout FTR750 podium sweep,” said Gary Gray, Vice President – Racing, Technology & Service for Indian Motorcycle. “This was a momentous win for Mees in what has been an exceptional season for him and Indian Motorcycle Racing.”

Through 10 races, Mees continues to control the leaderboard with 220 points, while Wiles sits in second with 153 points and Baker in third with 130 points. Carver, Kenny Coolbeth Jr. (Nila Racing/Columbia Avionics), Bauman and Wrecking Crew rider Bryan Smith rank fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.

The Indian Wrecking Crew and stable of privateers aboard the Scout FTR750 will continue its season on July 7th at the New York Short Track.
