A MAN accused of letting his dog maul a little boy has walked free from court.

James Paterson, 56, from Glasgow, was charged with allowing the Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Rocky to be dangerously out of control.

But on the second day of a trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court, the sheriff has ruled there was no case to answer against Mr Paterson.

The court earlier heard that the five-year-old youngster suffered a facial wound after the incident in Mr Paterson’s garden in Castlemilk last July.

Two boys, 13 and 14, die and four kids including baby injured after ‘major incident’ at house

Prosecutors claimed the dog was “dangerously out of control” and bit the boy on the face causing a wound running from his cheek to his nose.

He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow for treatment.

Mr Paterson denied the charge.

Defence lawyer Marisa Borland successfully argued that the police evidence against Mr Paterson was contradictory.

PC Callan Cuthbert said the boy was clutching a blood-soaked towel to his face.

He added: “Mr Paterson told me the dog had been agitated because it was warm.

“He said the boy had been jumping on the dog’s back and he had told him a number of times to stop.

AN EXPECTANT mum has sparked passionate debate after asking at what stage of pregnancy other people’s partners “cut back on their drinking”.

The woman, who is 36 weeks along, left Mumsnet users divided over whether it was necessary for men to give up alcohol too.

A pregnant woman sparked debate when she asked whether expectant fathers should cut down their drinking tooGetty - Contributor

In a post titled ‘Cutting down drinking in run up to birth?’ she appeared to suggest that she was expecting her man to stop boozing – which the NHS advises women to do during the entirety of pregnancy – as the birth approaches.

“Hi ladies. I’m 36 weeks pregnant,” the mum-to-be wrote.

“When did your partners cut down their drinking when out with mates etc in the run up to birth? How many weeks were you?
“I’m not wanting to be unreasonable but also getting nervous about the run up to the birth.”

Can women drink during pregnancy?

Experts are still unsure exactly how much – if any – alcohol is completely safe for you to have while you’re pregnant, so the safest approach is not to drink at all while you’re expecting.

When you drink, alcohol passes from your blood through the placenta and to your baby.

A baby’s liver is one of the last organs to develop and doesn’t mature until the later stages of pregnancy.

Your baby cannot process alcohol as well as you can, and too much exposure to alcohol can seriously affect their development.

Drinking alcohol, especially in the first three months of pregnancy, increases the risk of miscarriage, premature birth and your baby having a low birth weight.

Drinking after the first three months of your pregnancy could affect your baby after they’re born.

She added: “I’m not going to ask him to stop or not socialise just thinking of when he should no longer get drunk. Say no more than four pints.
“It’s my third baby, the older twos dad didn’t drink at all in the run up to birth but he wasn’t really one for going out.”

However, her fellow mums had very varied opinions on whether partners should be cutting out alcohol or not.

One person responded: “My partner didn’t get smashed after about 30 weeks.

“My sister asked her husband to stop completely from about 32 so he’d be able to drive her to the hospital if necessary – I figured worst case we’d get a cab.

“So my hubby carried on having a few beers or a couple of glasses of wine right up to our daughter being born.”

A second shared: “My husband didn’t have a single drink while I was pregnant.”

Another added: “37 weeks, he made sure he was under the limit. Except for one occasion when he had two pints, I think.”

Others didn’t see why a partner should have to change their drinking habits at all.

One person commented: “I don’t quite understand. Why should they have to cut down on drinking? Unless for their health?”

A second agreed: “I still don’t see how going to hospital has any relevance on a partner’s drinking. “Obviously you wouldn’t want them to be rolling drunk.”

FORMULA E star Andre Lotterer has spoken of the ‘honour’ of being one of five subjects in Leonardo DiCaprio’s new film about the sport, And We Go Green.

The Wolf Of Wall Street actor DiCaprio, 44,  has produced the flick about the environmentally-friendly motorsport, which had its premiere at the illustrious Cannes Film Festival this week.

Orlando Bloom and Leonardo DiCaprio with Formula E drivers Andre Lotterer and Jean-Eric Vergne in Cannes DiCaprio’s Formula E film And We Go Green had its premiere at the film festival this week

Lotterer, 37, said: “It was very special, we aren’t used to this as race car drivers so it is a different part of fame.

“[The drivers] really enjoyed it and took in every moment – walking up the red carpet in tuxedos with Leo, taking all the pictures.

“I never thought this would happen but it’s an honour to be featured in that movie as one of the five drivers. The movie promotes the message of sustainability and green racing in cities that we can influence.

“And it shows how intense Formula E is.”

Now the German’ driver’s attentions switch to his home race – the Berlin ePrix this weekend – and surpassing his DS Techeetah team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne at the top of the Drivers’ standings.

Last year’s champ Vergne leads Lotterer by just one point, with four races including Berlin remaining this season.

And We Go Green had its world premiere in Cannes this week, with celebs such as Orlando Bloom, Dua Lipa, Brooklyn Beckham and model girlfriend Hana Cross in attendance.

Formula E Deputy CEO and Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo added that DiCaprio was on board with the project from day one.

Longo said: “It was an idea of DiCaprio’s.

“He came to Los Angeles during the second season [in 2015]. Sitting with Alejandro [Agag, Formula E CEO] he said: ‘We need to do a kind of documentary’.

“It then took us one year to process it internally.

“Leonardo was fully involved from the beginning, and it was his idea to hire Fisher Stevens as the producer and director of the documentary.

“And that has been great – the fact that he [Stevens] doesn’t know anything about motorsport and instead focuses on the drivers’ and Alejandro’s characters. He focuses on the people.”

Di Caprio was also in Cannes to promote Quentin Tarantino’s new flick Once Upon A Time in Hollywood in which he stars with Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.

The film is set in the 1960s and follows DiCaprio as TV actor Rick Dalton and Pitt as his long-time friend and stunt double Cliff Booth.

After Berlin the Formula E season heads to Bern before wrapping up in New York with a double header in July.

The Formula E Berlin ePrix will be broadcast live on BBC Red Button from 12pm tomorrow, Sunday May 25.

SCOTLAND is to to be washout his Saturday with showers set to drench the country.

The Bank Holiday weekend kicks off today with up to 8cm of rain in the central belt, according to the Met Office.

UK weather forecast: The Bank Holiday weekend kicks off today with a three-day washout in parts of the UK Rain is to drench Scotland on Saturday with heavy rainfall across the central beltMet Office

Unsettled conditions will sweep in from the Atlantic across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Northern and Central England and Wales.

Further South should see lighter cloud interspersed with pleasant sunny spells.

Temperatures across the country will hold up in the mid-to-high teens.

But the changeable weather conditions mean many will see rain at some point during the long weekend.

A largely North-South split will see thicker cloud and rain in the North while the South should see more spells of sunshine today, as this Met Office map for Friday afternoon shows Temperatures will largely hold up in the mid-to-high teens today, as this Met Office map for Friday afternoon shows

UK weather forecast: Monday could bare the worst of the weather over the Bank Holiday weekend according to forecaster WXCHARTS

No one will be safe from the showers – with some spots seeing heavy downpours at times.

And cooler conditions will make it a grim start to the last week of spring.

By Monday, forecasters have warned temperatures will be “cooler with sunshine and showers, some heavy”.

The Met Office said there is likely to be “sunshine and showers for most places” over the three-day break.

A spokesperson said: “The weather is looking very changeable.

“We are looking at cloudy skies at times.

“Some areas will have rain on Saturday, others on Sunday or Monday.

“There’s a lot of uncertainty.”

Forecasters warned temperatures were likely to peak at around 20C (68F) – compared to highs of 22C to 23C midweek.

They added: “The temperature will be pleasant but not quite as high as we have been seeing.”

Despite the current unpredictable weather, Britain is said to be on track for a scorcher of a summer.

The mercury is set to hit sizzling highs of 30C (86F) in June, according to forecasts.

FORMER heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, has invested in a competitive gaming team.

The convicted rapist has invested an undisclosed amount of money in Fade 2 Karma, a team that made its name playing family-friendly online card game Hearthstone.

Tyson was a controversial figure during his boxing career

As part of the deal, a new gaming centre is being built at Tyson Ranch, the home base of Tyson’s marijuana business near Los Angeles.

According to ESPN, The Ranch House is going to be an all-singing all-dancing esports base.

It’s going to have private live streaming rooms for players to beam their games onto the internet, a content production centre and a rooftop party deck.

It’s also going to include a space to hold tournaments, with a stage to play on.

Hearthstone matches can be very tense, and are played out in front of big audiencesHelena Kristiansson for Blizzard Entertainment

Not only that, there’s also going to be an entertainment production studio that the team is going to operate.

After revealing the deal, Tyson appeared on stream with a bunch of professional Hearthstone players, and tried his hand at the game.

Tyson told ESPN he “really sucked real bad” at the game, but admitted while he had played games such as Call of Duty before, this was his first time playing Hearthstone.

The game sees players building decks of cards representing characters and skills from Blizzard’s Warcraft universe.

Players take turns to lay down cards from their hands and draw fresh ones from their decks as they battle to protect their own hero and take out their opponent’s.

Playing a character adds them to the field of battle, while using a skill can do anything from damage your opponent’s hero to healing your own characters, weakening your opponents’s cards or strengthening your own.

Hearthsone is a card game that is easy to pick up, but very hard to masterBlizzard Entertainment

Fade 2 Karma comprise a bunch of top-tier competitive players and popular streamers from around the world, including the UK.

Tyson’s interest in esports was spurred by his son, and Fade 2 Karma were picked out as a team to partner with by his team at Tyson Ranch.

He recently claimed that smoking psychedelic drug DMT had “killed the monster inside”.

He is very toxic and dangerous for my family and my wife. He doesn’t care about them but they are all I care about.

“But I know what it took to make that guy and the experiences we went through to make him so I know he will not disappear overnight.

MEGHAN Markle is known for her love of good food, often sharing new recipes and dishes on her now-defunct blog The Tig.

Named after her favourite wine, Tignanello, the Duchess of Sussex loves nothing more than a glass of wine with simple, fresh ingredients.

Meghan would drink a green juice instead of coffeeThe Tig

The 37-year-old championed healthy eating, starting her day with hot water and lemon to aid digestion.

Working on set for hours a day, Meghan would bring in a green juice she made at home to avoid reaching for caffeine when that “4pm slump” kicked in.

Speaking to Today, she said:  “If I blend some apple, kale, spinach, lemon and ginger in my Vitamix in the morning and bring it to work, I always find that sipping on that is a much better boost than a cup of espresso.”

She advised people to mix it up, throwing in berries or dairy-free milk for a change.

She loves cooking and would often share recipes on her blog The TigThe Tig

On the weekdays Meghan would kick things off with steel-cut oats with bananas and agave syrup, but when she wasn’t working she’d indulge a bit.

If at a hotel, she told EyeSwoon she’d order “poached eggs and toast with avocado”, but her ultimate morning breakfast would be blueberry johnnycakes, bacon and maple syrup.

For lunch, Meghan would also eat healthier when she was working when compared to the weekends.

She’d cook in bulk, and save time throughout the week.

Meghan's ultimate food day

Breakfast: Blueberry johnnycakes with bacon and maple syrup

Lunch: Fish tacos and Albarino white wine

Dinner: Rib eye and sautéed broccoli rabe or cavatelli pasta with a glass of The Tig

Seasoned veggie quinoa was her “go to” meal on set, with Neghan telling Today: “At the start of each week, I generally cook a box of quinoa, and while it’s simmering, I saute onions, garlic and any veggies I have on hand in a separate pan.

“Toss this veggie mixture into the finished quinoa and eat it as a side dish, poured on top of a kale salad, or as an easy snack.

“It stores for days in your fridge.”

Meghan loved discovering new recipes abroad as wellThe Tig

The mum to Archie confessed a love for Baja-style food, saying as a California  girl she was conditioned to like it “from the womb”.

Making her think of home, fish tacos are her go-to lunch when she had the time, which she would often make on her ceramic grill in her garden.

She told Today: “Grill some peppers and onions and a couple filets of fish (a flaky white fish works best).

Meghan says she’s conditioned to love Baja-style foodInstagram

“Season everything with salt and pepper, a little lime and stuff it all inside of a warm corn tortilla.

“Few bites of food make me happier than that.”

For Meghan it’s all about fresh ingredients, which she was surrounded with growing up in LA.

She told EyeSwoon: “My love of simple ingredients prepped well is completely linked to that.

“And the diet tends to be healthier as well – acai bowls, green juices, chopped salads, perfect sushi, grilled fish tacos… those are all things that make me think of home.”

Her fridge essentials reflect that, with the Duchess revealing to Good Housekeeping the five things you could always find her fridge are ‘hummus, carrots, green juice, almond milk and chia seed pudding’ which she “makes every single week”.

She declared her love for hummus, telling Today: “I like to assemble a small plate of crackers, hummus (try to make it yourself; it’s so easy) and some baby carrots.

“This sounds so simple, but truly, it satisfies so many senses—the savoury taste, the textural crunch, the unctuousness of the hummus.”

Meghan's acai bowl recipe
  • Blend one frozen acai packet with 1/3 cup of almond milk, 1/2 banana, a handful of frozen berries.
  • This should be thick so add almond milk sparingly as you go.
  • Top with coconut flakes, fresh berries, sliced banana, a drizzle of manuka honey, sprinkle of bee pollen (if you want), and  serve immediately.

Simple recipes are favoured by Meghan, who said the dish she’d make with her “eyes closed” is cacio and pepe pasta – cheese and pepper – because it’s “so simple”.

Other healthy snacks she champions include kale chips, which she drizzles with olive oil and salt.

But not all her snacks are that healthy, with the former actress a fan of chips.

She sees them as “their own food group”, calling them her guilty pleasure, and she’d always order a side if eating lunch with someone.

She told EyeSwoon: “I love a french fry, but there’s no shame in that.”

Meghan’s love of good food goes hand in hand with her love of fitness, with the mum-of-one known for her love of yoga and holistic recipes.

Photos shared on her Instagram showed the Duchess pulling off some impressive yoga moves, telling EyeSwoon: “It may be very California girl of me to always have my tinctures of holistic remedies.

“I travel with all sorts of little homeopathic medicine because it’s what’s familiar with me.”

But Meghan is also a big meat eater, revealing her signature dish for dinner parties is an whole roasted chicken.

She told Good Housekeeping: “There is nothing as delicious (or as impressive) as a perfectly roasted chicken.

Healthy eating was part of her fitness regime, including yogaRefer to Caption

“If you have an Ina Garten–level roasted-chicken recipe, it’s a game changer.

“I bring that to dinner parties and make a lot of friends.”

A fan of “Sunday suppers”, lamb tagine, pot roast, hearty soup, chicken adobo were all on her hearty menu.

In-keeping with the meat theme, her ultimate dish for dinner would be a T-bone steak, with broccoli rabe and a trusty glass of red.

She told EyeSwoon it’s a toss-up between that and her faithful pasta.

Meghan’s signature party food was a whole roast chickenInstagram

A secret ingredient in one of her pasta recipes is aubergine, which she would slow-cook for hours until it turned to mush.

She told Delish: “The sauce gets so creamy, you’d swear there’s tons of butter and oil in it, but it’s just zucchini, water and a little bouillon.”

Meghan would whip up her creations using her trusty Vitamix, which along with her Shun knife, are the two kitchen essentials she couldn’t live without.

DEAN Gaffney will return to EastEnders on June 3rd after a six-month hiatus – but he won’t be alone.

The 41-year-old actor, who plays Robbie Jackson, has confirmed he’ll return to Walford in just under two weeks’ time.

BBC Robbie is back in Albert Square in a fortnight[/caption]

However, a synopsis of the episode on the soap’s official website reveals he won’t be coming back to Albert Square “alone”.

It reads: “Kat drops a bombshell leaving Stacey furious. Robbie returns to the Square but he’s not alone. Tensions simmer between Phil and Louise.”

The soap’s official website also hints his half-sister Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) will be confused by his “odd” behaviour, but gives no other plot details away.

Robbie was last seen in December, when villain Stuart Highway gave him £500 so that he could go and visit his son in India – and so he could swoop in on Dot Branning’s savings.

But Dean recently hinted he might come back to Walford with a new love interest.

He said: “Robbie has been off in India soul-searching. He’s gone to right some wrongs, cross some T’s and dot some I’s.

“When he comes back, which is not too long now, is he alone? Has he found love?”

Robbie split from his girlfriend Donna Yates (Lisa Hammond) last summer, and he then set his sights on Minute Mart employee Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton).

SPACEX has fired dozens of satellites into space that will one day beam hyper-fast internet to people across the globe.

The private rocket company, bankrolled by eccentric billionaire Elon Musk, wants to set up a mega-constellation of thousands of satellites that it calls Starlink.

The satellites launched atop a Falcon 9 rocket

Flying 310 miles above the Earth’s surface, the network will supposedly boost web speeds 40-fold.

The first 60 Starlink satellites were deployed from an unmanned SpaceX rocket in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Falcon 9 spacecraft launched from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

It’s the first of at least 12 Starlink missions planned by SpaceX as it looks to set up a global network.

Sixty “flat-pack” satellites were loaded into the rocket

Starlink is designed to beam the internet to people around the world using an enormous network of satellites.

In total, SpaceX hopes to send up 12,000 – six times more than the total number of satellites currently orbiting Earth.

Musk, 47, said Starlink’s first launch was “one of the hardest engineering projects I’ve ever seen done.”

The South African cautioned that much could go wrong in the project’s early phases.

Despite the successful launch, SpaceX remains a long way off beaming a Wi-Fi connection back to Earth.

Six more Falcon launches will be needed before minor broadband coverage is achieved.

At least a dozen launches are required for moderate coverage.

Reuters SpaceX is run by billionaire Elon Musk[/caption]

Earlier this month, a space expert warned that Musk’s project could inadvertently “trap humanity on Earth”.

A catastrophic clutter of space debris left behind by the satellites could block rockets from leaving Earth, an effect known as “Kessler syndrome”.

“The worst case is: You launch all your satellites, you go bankrupt, and they all stay there,” European Space Agency scientist Dr Stijn Lemmens told Scientific American.

“Then you have thousands of new satellites without a plan of getting them out of there. And you would have a Kessler-type of syndrome.”
