David Gilmour's Stratocaster Sells for a Record-Breaking $3,975,000 at Auction!
Not too long ago, musical legend David Gilmour announced that he will donate money raised from the sale of his collection of classic guitars to ClientEarth, supporting efforts to fight the climate crisis. The auction of the Pink Floyd guitarist’s collection took place on the 20th June at Christie’s in New York and included more than 120 guitars. Among them was "The Black Strat," a 1969 Fender Stratocaster which Gilmour used to record Pink Floyd albums "The Dark Side of the Moon," "Wish You Were Here" and "The Wall," selling for an astounding $3,975,000, a new world record for a guitar at an auction!
As the story goes, Gilmour bought the guitar in May 1970 to replace his first black Stratocaster, which had been purchased only six weeks earlier, but was stolen in New Orleans on tour along with the rest of Pink Floyd's equipment. The guitar was purchased new at Manny's, differing from his original by way of a Maple neck instead of a Rosewood neck.

Martin guitar. A D12-28 12-string guitar, which was used to compose the opening riff on 'Wish You Were Here' was estimated to go for $5,000-10,000, and actually selling for $531,000.
David Gilmour's Gretsch White Penguin G6134 Guitar
Lastly, a Gretsch White Penguin G6134, purchased by Gilmour in 1980, and selling at the auction for $447,000, a new auction record for a Gretsch. Of the 126 lots, a total of $21,490,750 was raised from the auction, the most valuable musical instruments sale in auction history.
The Gibson Dave Amato Les Paul Axcess Standard is the ultimate mash-up of vintage Gibson aesthetics and modern player features!
The Dave Amato Les Paul Axcess Standard is the ultimate mash-up of vintage Gibson aesthetics and modern player features. Dave has played Les Pauls on stage for the last four decades, but lately he has been forced to choose between his two favorites -- a '59 Reissue and a Les Paul Axcess. So began a collaboration between Dave and the experts at Gibson Custom Shop to develop Dave's "perfect" Les Paul. The result is a beautiful and versatile Les Paul Axcess model unlike anything else available.
Dave requested a figured top with a "Boston Sunset Fade" finish (inspired by his home town), a unique White Ebony fingerboard, an extra-chunky neck profile, a Floyd Rose tremolo and two '57 Classic Plus humbuckers. He also wanted the latest Axcess construction elements including a swept neck heel, revised back contours and an Apex headstock carve which naturally strengthens the neck. It is now Dave's main guitar on tour and in the studio, representing only the best of his favorite specs. Scroll below to watch the demo video from Gibson!

Lee Roy Parnell's talent and approach has made him an icon in the music world, but his taste in tone has made him a legend in the guitar community. His '57 Goldtop signature model from Gibson Custom Shop became an instant classic for this reason, and it continues to be sought-after by collectors and guitarists worldwide.
Lee Roy and the talented luthiers at Gibson Custom Shop took notice, and so began the process of creating a new version based on a flametop '59 Burst instead of a '57 Goldtop.
The construction elements remain the same, from the contoured cutaway edge to the revised pickup routes, which Lee Roy prefers in order to capture more character from the wood. Each features a hand-picked figured maple top accented by an "Abilene Sunset Fade" burst, inspired by Lee Roy's hometown in Texas. Under the hood, each guitar features an underwound '57 Classic humbucker in the neck, an underwound '57 Classic Plus in the bridge, and the all-new Vintage Tone Circuit which uses paper-in-oil capacitors and vintage taper potentiometers. Every element has been given Lee Roy's seal of approval!
