Continuing its mission to build trusted partnerships with advertisers and publishers, Verizon Media announced an innovative new omnichannel insights tool for its industry-leading demand side platform (DSP). Powered by machine learning, the new tool is designed to give advertisers clarity on their omnichannel programmatic ecosystem, with robust performance insights and optimization recommendations for each channel, ad format and exchange.

According to a recent survey by Advertiser Perceptions, among advertisers, “transparency” is the most important word of 2019, with brands rightfully seeking more insights into campaign performance and media quality than ever before.1Similarly, 60% of US advertising executives cite a lack of transparency as the biggest challenge for digital spend optimization.2

“At Verizon Media, trust and transparency are more than just buzzwords,” said Iván Markman, Chief Business Officer at Verizon Media. “We believe in the power of consistently delivering new technologies, platforms and tools that unlock deeper insights into programmatic supply and performance. With today’s announcement, we are continuing to take a leadership role, bringing our DSP customers granular omnichannel intelligence at the auction level, giving them everything they need to understand how and where to best allocate budgets.”

The new transparency tool delivers a 360-degree view of a DSP customer’s omnichannel programmatic environment, with robust audience reach and cost analyses broken down by channel (e.g., display, CTV, DOOH, audio, etc.), ad format (e.g., video, native, etc.) and exchange. It enables buyers to drill down to truly understand how each channel, format and exchange is performing on their behalf, while providing forecasts to shape campaign strategy, creative and targeting. In future versions we expect to allow segmentation by device, video duration, video placement, and domain, bringing advertisers unparalleled insights across their programmatic universe.

“Increasing transparency within the programmatic ecosystem must be an industry-wide priority, bringing agencies and tech partners together to drive better outcomes for clients,” said Steve Katelman, EVP, Global Partnerships at Omnicom Media Group. “Adding Verizon Media’s capability to our own transparency tools allows us to understand deeper bidding insights at the auction level, ensuring that we are accessing the inventory through the optimal path. This level of DSP supply path flexibility should be the expectation moving forward.”

“We believe in leading the DSP market to give advertising partners transparency on everything from reach and cost across channels, formats and exchanges, and help them predict what will work best down the road,” continued Markman.

The Verizon Media DSP is a full-funnel, transparency-driven platform that combines unique data sets with machine-learning optimization, exclusive inventory, and enhanced productivity features, giving advertisers the flexibility, control and confidence to manage omnichannel programmatic strategy.

June 1 marked the beginning of hurricane season and AccuWeather anticipates this season will bring 12-14 storms, five to seven of which could become hurricanes and two to four of which could become major hurricanes. But it only takes one storm to change lives forever. With damage from hurricanes Michael, Florence, Maria, Irma and Harvey still clearly visible, hurricane-prone areas have been preparing for what could come.

Over the last several hurricanes, the importance of consistent, reliable communication has been emphasized repeatedly as emergency managers, first responders and storm survivors have depended on Verizon’s network to stay connected with loved ones and critical emergency resources when those connections were needed most.

“During emergencies, the reliability and availability of our network is imperative for critical communications for families and mission critical work for small businesses and enterprise customers,” said Genia Wilbourn, Senior Vice President of Network Operations at Verizon. “Our engineers work tirelessly during severe weather seasons, and all year long to ensure our customers, and especially our first responders, have the communication tools in place when needed most.”

How we’ve prepared to support first responders, local governments and residents

Verizon prepares year-round to ensure we are ready for all emergencies. In addition to normal storm season preparations, this year Verizon is adding a fleet of new satellite-equipped portable cell sites and has secured dedicated satellite links for connection.

“All cell sites are connected to the network by either fiber or microwave technology,” continued Wilbourn. “If fiber or microwave is damaged due to sustained winds, storm surge or manual fiber cuts during post-storm recovery work, communications can be impacted. But with satellite-enabled portable equipment and dedicated satellite links, along with the fleet of portable generators to keep us running without commercial power, we are prepared for all situations.”

Additionally, Verizon has made the following preparations:

  • Backups to the backups: We have backup generators, HVAC systems and fiber rings at cell sites and switching centers to keep the network running and customers connected when commercial power is lost or water damage occurs
  • Refueling strategy: We pre-arrange fuel deliveries in case of a storm, with tankers poised and in position to quickly respond to hard-hit areas in case commercial power is lost
  • Year-round preparation: We run Emergency Operation Center drills throughout the year to ensure our team is ready and equipped to respond to emergencies
  • Support for first responders: When disaster strikes, our Verizon Response team is available 24/7/365 and coordinates with first responders. We can mobilize charging stations, devices, special equipment, emergency vehicles and more to support local, state and federal agencies across the US
  • Support for the community: We have mobile Wireless Emergency Communications Centers, Tactical Command Trailers, and Response Trailers ready to deploy to support first responders and community members with recovery efforts
  • Use of drones: We have surveillance drones on standby to help assess and respond to damage from a storm, and we have drones that can deliver cellular service to a designated area from the sky
  • Partnering with AccuWeather to ensure we have the most up-to-date weather forecasts, news and information, as well as insights on the impacts of severe weather. Visit www.AccuWeather.com for seasonal tips and content to help navigate the 2019 hurricane and tropical storm season.
How businesses and government organizations can prepare and stay connected

It’s important for businesses and governments to prepare for hurricane season as well. We offer customers products and services that can help disaster-proof their communications, helping enable continuity in their operations. For example, our Mobile Connectivity Trailer can create a wireless coverage area if coverage is not available. We also offer wireless routers with automatic fall over if the wired broadband connection is disrupted.

It’s also a good time to review your readiness plans. Businesses and government organizations can help prepare by doing the following:

  • Make sure you have contact information updated and readily available for all employees
  • Make copies of insurance documents and review insurance coverages and update as appropriate
  • Preplan evacuation routes and make sure employees know the best way to exit the building safely
  • For more on business continuity and emergency planning, visit www.ready.gov. Small businesses can find information through the Small Business Administration
How you can prepare: Do you have a personal communications plan?

The beginning of hurricane season is a great time to take a minute and ensure you are ready for the season too. AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist and Tropical Storm Expert Dan Kottlowski says everyone living in hurricane-prone areas should have a hurricane and communications plan in place and lists are important. Families, businesses and communities need to be ready.

“Now is the time to start planning,” said Kottlowski. “What would you take if you had one hour to evacuate as opposed to 24 hours? Do you know where you would evacuate to and if the shelter would welcome your pet? Do you need prescription refills? What about cash if ATMs are not functioning? There are so many decisions and considerations families must make in an instant. The more we think about it ahead of time and write out a plan, the better prepared we are if the worst occurs.”

Kottlowski added that AccuWeather’s free app can be downloaded in advance and is an excellent resource for tracking storms and receiving severe weather alerts. For additional helpful tips and content to navigate hurricane season and extreme weather, check out www.AccuWeather.com.

We encourage you to take these steps to ensure your loved ones are ready to communicate during a storm:

  • Ensure all battery-powered devices are fully charged before the storm hits. This includes wireless phones and smartphones, laptops, tablets, flashlights and radios
  • Program your smartphone to receive emergency alerts. Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) are free wireless notifications that are delivered to your mobile device by local/national public safety organizations
  • Maintain a list of emergency phone numbers and email addresses, including police, fire and rescue agencies; power companies; insurance providers; and family, friends and co-workers.  Program them into your phone, smartphone, tablet or laptop and also have a hard copy handy, someplace easily accessible
  • Backup your information on Verizon Cloud – Verizon offers backup assistance through the Verizon Cloud to store your phone’s address book and contact information as well as pictures and other content on a secure server
  • Download weather applications and alerts that provide users with a variety of information such as radar images, forecasts and severe storm warnings
  • Wireless devices can be a key source of information and communication in the event of an emergency, so be sure to keep phones, tablets, laptops, batteries, chargers and other equipment in dry, accessible locations like re-sealable plastic bags, dry bags or waterproof cases
  • In case of evacuation, make sure you know where your chargers are, both wall and vehicle charging cords, and have portable device chargers fully charged and next to your device
  • Record video/take photos of your possessions in your residence before severe weather hits

We want you to be safe this hurricane season. Being crisis-ready and crisis-proven is central to Verizon. Reliability is in our DNA and we will continue to work year-round to ensure you can count on us to stay connected.

Our military and first responders need reliable, secure connectivity. That is why Verizon and Naval Base Coronado are proud to announce the installation of a new wireless small-cell deployment at Naval Air Station North Island, Naval Amphibious Base and San Clemente Island. This mission-critical communications partnership expands capabilities for tactical and public safety operations, and improves connectivity for on-base tenant commands and residents.

“This is a great step in the evolution of mission-critical communications on-base,” said Captain Timothy Slentz, commanding officer, Naval Air Station North Island. “Through this partnership, we are building a more responsive, agile and secure network that will help meet our communications needs, even as technology continues to advance.”

The Verizon design provides a dedicated cellular network for day-to-day operations as well as emergencies. Naval Base Coronado is one of the first naval installations in the region to lay the groundwork for Verizon 4G LTE small-cell wireless technology, which will help enable future 5G technologies for Smart Shore Initiatives.

“With decades of experience working with military and federal agencies, Verizon is uniquely positioned to partner with the Navy to build a network infrastructure that meets its critical needs,” said Mike Maiorana, senior vice president, public sector, Verizon. “This investment further solidifies Verizon’s commitment to the mission needs of the Navy.”

Verizon powers the nation’s largest 4G LTE network, covering more than 2.5 million square miles and more than 98 percent of Americans with a more than 450,000 square mile coverage advantage over the nearest competitor. Since 2000, Verizon has invested more than $145 billion in its network. Verizon is a leader in wireless innovation and we will continue to bring that innovation to address the challenges that our military, government, public safety agencies and first responders face every day.

Starting today, May 16, Verizon consumer and business customers can purchase the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G — Samsung’s first 5G smartphone in the U.S. — in Verizon stores and online at verizonwireless.com. The launch comes on the heels of Verizon’s announcement of 20 U.S. cities that will get 5G Ultra Wideband service in 2019. They are: Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Des Moines, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Little Rock, Memphis, Phoenix, Providence, San Diego, Salt Lake City and Washington DC1.

Verizon previously announced it would deploy 5G in select areas of more than 30 U.S. cities in 2019, and will roll out its 5G Home broadband internet service in some of these markets, as well.  Additional 5G Ultra Wideband cities will be announced later this year.

5G Ultra Wideband technology uses new radio technology and device hardware to deliver advanced capabilities to consumers and businesses. When customers move outside Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband coverage area, the Galaxy S10 5G hands off the signal to Verizon’s 4G LTE network, the nation’s largest 4G LTE network.

The most powerful Galaxy S10 on Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband

Available exclusively on Verizon for a limited time, the Samsung Galaxy S10 5Gsmartphone puts the power, speed and connectivity of Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network directly into the hands of consumers and businesses. Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network provides download speeds that are significantly faster than 4G LTE with increased bandwidth capacity meaning more users are able to use more data in the same location. That means access to speeds previously unheard of from a mobile network that will change the way you use your smartphone for work, play and everything in between2.

The Galaxy S10 5G features a stunning 6.7” cinematic Dynamic AMOLED display, so you can immerse yourself in a whole new way. It also features the Galaxy S series’ most advanced, pro-grade camera system — six lenses, including a 3D Depth Sensing camera which uses Time of Flight technology to let you capture video with a stunning blur effect.

A powerful 4,500 mAh all day intelligent battery3 optimizes usage based on how you live, to deliver intuitive peak performance throughout the day. And the Galaxy S10 5G comes with two storage options — 256GB and 512GB — so you can download movies, TV and photos at hyperfast speeds and store them all at your fingertips.

5G plans, pricing and availability

Verizon has two great deals to make it easier to upgrade to 5G. New and existing customers can trade in an eligible smartphone and save up to $450. What’s more, you can get an additional $200 prepaid Mastercard if you switch to Verizon, purchase a Galaxy S10 5G on device payment plan and sign up for Verizon Unlimited4.

Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband is available only on Above and Beyond Unlimited plans with the Galaxy S10 5G. For a limited time, the Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband $10 access fee is waived — a savings of $10 a month5. Both plans include unlimited 5G Ultra Wideband data, hotspot and 4K HD video streaming (on 4K-capable devices) when you are in 5G Ultra Wideband coverage areas6.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G on Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network is also built for the future of business. With blazing fast speeds and ultra-low lag, businesses can break down barriers to collaboration and open new opportunities for a mobile workforce. Information on pricing and offers for business customers is available here.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is available  in Crown Silver and Verizon-exclusive Majestic Black. The 256GB Galaxy S10 5G is $54.16  per month for 24 months on Verizon Device Payment (0% APR; $1,299.99 retail) and the 512GB Galaxy S10 5G is $58.33 per month for 24 months on Verizon Device Payment (0% APR; $1,399.99 retail).

To purchase your Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, visit vzw.com/smartphones/samsung-galaxy-s10-5g. You can also order it on Samsung.com and at Samsung Experience Stores or Best Buy. To learn more about Verizon’s 5G technology, visit verizonwireless.com/5g.

Verizon’s Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) Network is now available coast-to-coast covering more than 92% of the US population. The launch of this additional IoT connectivity option in combination with the company’s ThingSpacemanagement platform, APIs, tools and rich ecosystem of partners will provide enterprise customers the ability to bring unique NB-IoT solutions to market quickly.

“There is a whole universe of smart solutions needing scalable and affordable connections. By launching our NB-IoT Network, Verizon is taking yet another step in making that connectivity available and driving innovation in the IoT field,” said Jeffrey Dietel, Senior Vice President of Business Marketing and Products.

NB-IoT adds a low cost option for low power, low throughput solutions

Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) technology is specifically designed for IoT applications that could benefit from access to lower cost chipsets, superior coverage and significantly prolonged battery life. The NB-IoT Network provides the ability to manage both IP and non-IP data traffic. This ability to handle non-IP data traffic allows for the creation of much simpler and more cost-effective IoT devices which are ideal for solutions that aren’t designed to be always mobile such as alarm panels, environmental sensors, industrial appliances, factory equipment and parking meters. Other ideal use cases for NB-IoT include:

  • Smart cities – improve citizen experience and municipal operations through parking sensors, waste management and smart lighting.
  • Smart buildings – enhance building safety and incident response times through connected smoke detectors including regular auto-test, battery check and real-time alerts to the relevant parties in case of fire.
  • Industrial – improved machinery maintenance cycles and factory safety through machinery control such as equipment status, factory control, and process and safety monitoring.
  • Environment monitoring – increase focus on environmental responsibility through status reporting of manhole covers, fire hydrants and chemical emission levels.
  • Agricultural – improve efficiency in the agricultural industry with livestock tracker, connected greenhouse, stationary tracking and monitoring of air quality, humidity, moisture, temperature, and weather conditions of air and soil.
  • Asset Tracking – improve efficiency and decrease costs by using pallet tracking and geo-fencing.
  • Utilities – improve efficiency and decrease waste by using gas and water metering, including smart meter consumption tracking and pipeline monitoring.
Verizon is ready to support developers and manage commercial traffic

Verizon continues to expand its already robust ecosystem of partners to help develop, bring to market, connect and manage IoT solutions. Verizon has partnered with leading chipset and module manufacturers so that IoT makers can immediately start working towards building their devices for the Verizon NB-IoT network. Three module manufacturers in final stages of testing – Telit, SIM-COM and Quectel – have modules on Verizon’s Network which are ready to be used in development efforts. Additionally, customers will be able to manage their connections securely using the integrated ThingSpace platform that supports connectivity management, location and device security.

Verizon has announced an initial NB-IoT Standard Price Plan, offering 50 KB of data with a $1.00 monthly access fee per device. The data allowance can be shared with other NB-IoT devices on the same price plan and on the same account.

NB-IoT adds another connection option for businesses

Verizon maintains a strong leadership position in IoT technology and solutions with a history of providing customers with many options to meet their needs including nationwide deployment of 4G LTE, LTE Cat 1, and LTE Cat M1 networks. While CAT-M1 targets a wide range of applications for business customers such as wearables, fleet and asset management, NB-IoT focuses on applications needing data rates below 100 kbps. NB-IoT technology occupies a dedicated frequency of 180 kHz bandwidth designated for IoT applications which does not share spectrum resources with commercial smartphone traffic.

“We have engineered our NB-IoT network in the Guard Band of our spectrum. By using the more complex Guard Band solution for our Narrow Band IoT Network, we are demonstrating very efficient use of spectrum assets while giving customers the breadth of options they need to best meet their needs. This strategic use of spectrum is one of the many variables that has resulted in Verizon’s continued performance superiority and strong capital management over the years,” said Bill Stone, Vice President of Technology Development and Planning at Verizon.

Verizon Media announced today that it will release the documentary film 5B theatrically on June 14th as part of its continued investment in championing compelling content that gives voice to the important issues of our time through global reach, technology and innovative storytelling.

5B is the inspirational story of everyday heroes who took extraordinary action to comfort, protect and care for the patients of the first HIV/AIDS ward unit in the United States at San Francisco General Hospital. 5B is stirringly told through first-person testimony of the nurses and caregivers who built Ward 5B in 1983, their patients, loved ones, and staff who volunteered to create care practices based in humanity and holistic well-being during a time of great uncertainty.

The result is an uplifting yet candid and bittersweet monument to a pivotal moment in American history and a celebration of quiet heroes’ worthy of renewed recognition.

The documentary will support (RED)’s fight to end AIDS, with a portion of 5B’s net proceeds going to support the work of the Global Fund – the recipient of all (RED) monies. Additionally, the release will bring awareness to the HIV/AIDS issue ahead of the sixth Global Fund Replenishment this coming October.

Presented by RYOT, a Verizon Media company, 5B will premiere at the 2019 Festival de Cannes on Thursday, May 16 as an Official Special Screening. Following, the film will have its Los Angeles premiere in partnership with LA Pride as part of Verizon’s ground-breaking inaugural title sponsorship of the annual event.  The premiere will be hosted on opening night, June 7, prior to the performance of headliner Paula Abdul, on the festival’s Plaza Stage.

In support of 5B and (RED), celebrities Julianne Moore, Miles Teller, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Keiynan Lonsdale, among others will attend the Cannes premiere alongside co-director Dan Krauss and the original Ward 5B nurses and other participants featured in the film.

“Some stories have the special ability to remind us of the best in humanity and push us to find the best in ourselves and one another — 5B is one of those stories,” says Hayley Pappas, Head of RYOT Films at Verizon Media’s RYOT. “With great delicacy and craft, 5B takes us back to a defining moment in history and invites us to walk alongside the ordinary people who rose to extraordinary circumstances. We’re honored and privileged to be able to share their story, and we hope this film is able to continue their legacy of service.”

“5B is an important documentary that shines a light on the extraordinary nurses, caregivers and family members that built Ward 5B, and uses their powerful story to generate money for the Global Fund to help finance HIV/AIDS programs today,” said Jennifer Lotito, Chief Operating Officer at (RED).

For the film’s theatrical release on June 14, Verizon Media will activate its ecosystem to raise awareness and inspire change on this critically important issue and uplifting film. Verizon Media has engaged Vertical Entertainment to distribute the film. A full home entertainment release will follow this fall, along with global international theatrical releases in the lead-up to the annual Global Replenishment Conference in October.

Co-directed by Dan Krauss and featuring Sasha Cuttler, Alison Moed, Mary Magee, Cliff Morrison, Hank Plante III, Rita Rockett, Guy Vandenberg and other heroes of Ward 5B, 5B is presented by RYOT, a Verizon Media company.
