WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW… IS LOVE, SWEET LOVE!Love, for me, still remains the strongest force. From days of old when Shakespeare took quill pen to ink, to Jackie De Shannon’s vocals.
From the endless novels, songs, and movies that compel us to want more from life, we too want the same romantic idyll and euphoric feelings that finding ‘true love’ brings. As a wedding photographer, I have had the humble privilege of witnessing this larger than life, incredible force. From couples who have found their soul mates; at the ripe young age of 10, only to marry decades later, to couples who found a second chance at love in their golden years, from meeting on a tour bus, or in high school halls, online dating sites, or broken & stalled elevators. Our imagery is as unique as your lives together. Your story is important, every part of it, and I want to use my gift to capture it and show it to you.
Besides my formal training and years of perfecting my trade, my work is a collaboration of us!
You inspire my creativity, and we create beautiful photos, together.
If I could give marrying couples any support to help them obtain better imagery at their wedding, it would be this:
Simply be your wonderful, authentic, you. My camera captures everything; your happiness, your love, and everything in between. Your wedding day is a celebration of your union with your dearest friends and family.
Although we get just as giddy about your beautiful Couture wedding gown, what we really love is the smile that you wear on your face the moment you first see your fiancé at the end of the aisle, or the way he/she kisses your forehead after seeing you hug your niece. These moments are the ones we desire for you and from you. The truly authentic, madly in love, till death do us part, Romeo & Juliet, timeless moments, where your love shines above all else. These are the moments you want to encapsulate in time forever and breathe on your wedding day, with me.
We do understand that the details, the meetings and all of the planning matters, but after spending hours on Pinterest and letting us and your event planner know your preferences (Which we love; we want and need to know, as I customize each shoot, in regards to locations, combinations of photos, etc.) on your wedding day, get like Disney and LET IT GO.
Trust that you have hired professionals and allow us to take the reins and take care of you.
We are very thorough with our questionnaires, our meetings, and our phone calls so that every couple feels confident, so they can fully enjoy and have fun. This allows us the freedom to use our creative license to the fullest extent of our abilities.
We love it when the couple can let go and be fully immersed in the day that they’ve been waiting, and planning for.
Now that you know about how to be a carefree bride and groom on the inside, here are a few tips to keep in mind for the outside.
You might have dreamt of your Cinderella dress since you were 9, but you had no idea of how your body was going to mature, thus, choose a dress/style that flatters your physique.
Take your wisest, most sincere, friend to be another set of eyes, and a little tough love, to help pick out your dress.
Most brides lose weight as their big day approaches, and last minute tweaks to your alterations will solidify a perfect fit. Make sure you find a seamstress who can provide last minute support with quick, quality alterations.
When it comes to makeup – Please, hire a professional. Not only will your make up look flawless but if they stay-your make-up will as well. Having to reapply your makeup on yourself all day can take time and effort away from your wedding (and your photos!).
Think about hiring a dresser for your wedding. Having a ‘dresser’ prevents us from having to stop the action to fix the dress or the shirt that is bellowing outward; most bridal shops offer dresser services, and they can be a key hire for your wedding day. (If your budget allows, keep your dresser or make-up artist there till you walk down the aisle.)
Pro Tip: For men, tuck your shirt through your boxers & down your leg before putting your pants on. The elastic band will make for a smoother, flatter fit.
Pro Tip: Most professional makeup artists know that mineral makeup refracts and reflects light, which my flash will pickup. Try and find a makeup artist who can refrain from using it.
So Come Rain or Come Shine, (either by Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, B B King & Eric Clapton) “You gonna love” your photos.
Michelle & Nick were all smiles during their engagement shoot with Terri Diamond.
We started collaborating with Michelle & Nick in October, (we’re pretty convinced that October is one of the best months out of the year for capturing love and magic) two weeks prior to the shoot, advising them with wardrobe and location. Not too rural, but not too urban either. Terri suggested the amazing Domino Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Noticing the cooler temperatures, Terri also suggested proper fall colors and attire.
They spent the morning in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at Domino Park. It was a brisk morning in October, and spirits were high all around!
Michelle’s aunt gifted them with a certificate for our services. When deciding on the ‘perfect gift’ this season, why not give the gift of photos? Gifting a session to your nearest and dearest is a wonderfully original gift, and one they will be thanking you for every time they view their images.
Pro Tip: You can add photo studios to your registry! What better way to try out a photographer and prevent buyers remorse than to have the photographer you love gifted to you, long before your wedding? You will save time and energy interviewing photographers for your wedding day, and you’ll have images of you and your fiancé that will transcend time.
When working with you, an engagement session with Terri before your big day gives Terri a chance to get to know you, your story, your best angles, and your energy. Talk about a fun way to connect! The actual wedding day will go so smoothly after learning how to interact and pose for your photographer; you now have the confidence from already nailing it during your engagement session! You’re going to want your wedding to be fun, and you want a fun photographer to capture all of your special moments. A good photographer knows how to capture your good side and goes into your session with your same vision and energy.
We like to capture your individual sense of style. For cooler days, make sure you’re warm enough, not wearing ill fitting clothing that needs to be fiddled with (re-tucking in shirts, etc.). That will take your attention away from your love and the spontaneous candid moments. We always tell our couples to dress for comfort with flair, but not too matchy; choose colors that compliment one another and blend well. And in case we end up roaming around a large area, we suggest comfortable shoes, like flip-flops or slip on sneakers to replace dress shoes and heels while walking from location to location.
An engagement session with Terri is a date between you and your fiancé, only it’s documented! It’s a time to detach from work, social media, and your cell phone and completely immerse yourself in the love that Terri brings out in her couples.
Pro Tip: We suggest refraining from using mineral makeup as it reflects and refracts light when we use flash!
When the day was done, Michelle & Nick were excited and overwhelmed with the confident in Terri and her team’s abilities to capture their wedding!
Blake and Noah danced up a storm during their B'Nai Mitzvah. It was such a pleasure to photograph such happy and cheerful children! Cindy Gerber, founder of @rkndesigns, handled the decor along with Jenny @dianagouldltd. The atmosphere was absolutely perfect, the food was superb at the Montammy Country Club (Alpine, NJ) and the confetti and light sabers really helped to set the mood, thanks to the team at @untouchableevents.
If you need any help planning your next, Bar, Bat, or , B’ Not, or B'Nai Mitzvah, we can steer you in the right direction and refer you to the right resources to create a masterpiece, just like Blake & Noah’s B’Nai Mitzvah. Terri and the team are ready to dance the night away with you and your family, while capturing every unforgettable moment so you can relive the night again and again!
After photographing at hundreds of Mitzvahs, Terri has a team of collaborators/vendors she loves to work with, and she's confident you'll love them too! Ready to party? Call us today to book an appointment.
To be a good father and mother requires that the parents defer many of their own needs and desires in favor of the needs of their children. As a consequence of this sacrifice, conscientious parents develop a nobility of character and learn to put into practice the selfless truths taught by the Savior Himself”
We don’t know who had more fun with this themed shoot, Ava or Terri! In preparation for her 2019 Bat Mitzvah, Ava had glamorous portraits taken. The session started off on historic Brownstone steps and then moved to Miss Favelas in Williamsburg for a few pastel portraits (We highly recommend their delicious Brazilian food!) The new Domino Park in Brooklyn, where the remainder of the portraits were taken, was previously an old sugar factory until it underwent restoration to be reconstructed as a playground and community locus. Ava sported some great outfits, all complimenting her unique style throughout the day; this individualized session was a beautiful success and one we believe Ava will always remember!
In this day in age, almost every teen has a social media platform of choice and some even dream of being social media influencers. Gifting them with a portrait session of tasteful images to enliven them before their Mitzvah is not only the standard these days, it is all but expected! That's where we come in! If you’re looking for original content and a photographer that really ‘knows’ Brooklyn, Terri Diamond Studios has been in Williamsburg for nearly a decade, and Terri knows all the old spots, and the new! The images we deliver will not only capture the youth of your child forever, but will also make them the talk-of-the-town with all of their friends. Now booking for 2019!
We first met Dan & Dakota last year, when they booked an engagement session as a part of their wedding with the studio. During that session, I got to know Dan & Dakota a little bit and we had an amazing time chasing the best the light through the streets of lower Manhattan. When working with brides and grooms, I always suggest an engagement session with the couple. It gives me a chance to get to know them and their story a little more which helps me to connect with them the day of their wedding.
Just like with their engagement session, Dan & Dakota brought a lightness with them to their wedding. Even on one of their most important (and let's face it... stressful days of their lives) they were calm, cool and collected. Some couples may get a bit worrisome on their wedding day; not Dan & Dakota. After taking portraits all around the Edgewood Country Club, this bride and groom decided to take a moment and have some coffee before their nuptials. How cute! How brave of Dakota, she drank espresso while sitting on a white couch in her couture wedding gown. I loved it ! It was a great moment and I'm happy my team and I were there to get it.
Another notable item from this wedding is the venue, the Edgewood Country Club. I have to say it is one of the most enjoyable venues to shoot in; as the light is radiant and the venue itself is beautifully decorated & cared for. Each part of the club is drowned in the most gorgeous and flattering sunlight making it every photographers dream.
The Crestmont Country Club boasts gorgeous manicured grounds polka dotted with impressive variations of trees and plants that made it a perfect backdrop to Jordan & Ashley's wedding. We were fortunate to be their first wedding as they unveiled their newly renovated club.
My goal was to capture this scenic view while keeping Ashley and Jordan cool. Finding a shady weeping willow, myself and my two other photographers simultaneously photographed them. Using different angles, lens, and techniques, a plethora’s of artistic and emotional imagery was created. Posed, natural, and documentary images done seamlessly.
Twenty-five years of experience pays off, thoughtfully shot and executed in 15-20 minutes. Ashley and especially Jordan expressed their appreciate to us all night, as we all continued to celebrate.
I cannot tell you how many times I hear from my brides “He does not have the patience to sit or pose and we are uncomfortable in front of the camera” Guess what, I am as well, so I truly understand what you are looking for and will want on your wedding day. (Now, the hardest part for Ashley & Jordan is now narrowing down their favorites)
Fortunately the evening cooled and the ceremony was outside. As the sunset over the newlyweds, they were forever changed and blessed with a committed union.
We all know it takes more than a gorgeous venue to pull off a great wedding day. It takes work and planning by teams of people. Below here are some of the vendors, artists, and designers that helped this wedding come together... Then look at just some of the images from Ashley & Jordan's Wedding
Cristen & Adam had the right idea when they decided to have their engagement session in NYC. This shoot took place by the Hudson River near this lovely couple's apartment. Their wedding is happening elsewhere but they wanted to make sure a bit of New York was represented in their images leading up to the big day. For me, shooting engagements on the streets of the city is one of my favorite types of shoots and working with Cristen & Adam was a real treat. Throughout our session together, I could really see how deeply they love & care for one another... and I think it shows in the images.
Cristen and Adam came to book to me by way of a silent auction held by Make-a-Wish. About a year ago, I donated a shoot for the Toast for Wishes benefit and Cristen & Adam bid and won the session with me. Exciting! I've always enjoy working with non-for-profit organizations like Make-a-Wish who are making such big contributions to the community at large. Anyone I have met through these benefits or galas are always the best type of people and Cristen & Adam were no different.
Since I'm a lifelong New Yorker, I may be a little basis but... New York City, is hands down one of the best (if not the best) city to photograph people in. I mean all people... Single people, teens, families, you name it, the city will be the perfect backdrop. The energy here is palpable. It swirls around you, envelopes you with the bustle & hustle... and it's wonderful.
For a photographer, the way the light sneaks and seeps through the spaces between buildings and the various little nooks & crannies lends itself to the potential for a great image, a great moment highlighting wonderful people. This city helps reveal who you are and when you're with me, you better believe that I'll make sure to capture it.
Throughout this shoot, I worked with Cristen & Adam to make sure the city's energy & their unique couple-vibe showed. We started off with both of them looking really dapper with a wonderful suit on Adam and a gorgeous lace dress on Cristen. Though both looked like perfection, I knew there was something more I could bring out in this shoot. So, I suggested a quick change into some casual attire and like a switch...I got them. Through my lens, I could see I was shooting the real Cristen & Adam, a light-hearted, fun couple who are head over heels for each other. Take a peek into their shoot below:
What a wonderful time in your life. So now that you have found your perfect match and wedding plans are well on their way... It’s time to find a photographer to immortalize one of the most romantic days of your life... your wedding.
Let’s face it, finding your photographic match for your wedding can be stressful. From your mom to your best friend; everyone has an opinion and a style they like for you. Late night Instagram browsing sessions and Pinterest pinning make for good inspiration, but as a fiance, you are not only oversaturated with images and information but with decision too.
That's where we come in! Here are 8 tips that my team and I have come up with to make one decision easier for your wedding.
1. Know your style. There are so many different styles of wedding photography. So, take a look at all the imagery you've inevitably researched and look for the common visual thread in what you've compiled. No, queue of wedding images? Instagram and Pinterest will be your friends. Start by searching for photographers in your area!
2. Know what you want. When looking at the photos you love; are most of them posed or are they candid, in-the-moment type shots? Do you like sweeping dramatic scenes or close, intimate moments? Being precise about what you like will not only help you find a photographer with the technique and vibe you desire but also will help give a clear vision to your photographer.
3. When looking at a photographer's portfolio make sure to request to see a full wedding gallery. Online portfolios are curated to be the best-of-the-best; which is great but be sure to see a full portfolio from one wedding.
While looking at wedding galleries take note of the location of the weddings. How does the photographer shoot a city vs. a country wedding? Have they shot in a similar venue to yours? Are the images from gallery to gallery formulaic or are they unique to each wedding? You want to make sure your photographer is aligned to the day you have created.
4. After doing the work, you now have a few photographers to choose from... What next? Chemistry is everything when it comes to a wedding couple and their photographer. We will be your right-hand woman/man on your wedding day. (We've even helped brides into the bathroom, talk about too much tulle!)
Bottom line: Love their energy and feel at ease with your photographer.
5. While narrowing down your photographer, make sure you pick someone who is a seasoned professional, well equipped to anticipate your needs, even before you do. (We do not claim to be “know it alls”, but after years of documenting weddings we are aware of how important it is to be organized, prepared and one step ahead.)
6. Flexibility is a key virtue for any wedding photographer. As we know not everything goes according to plan. Having a photographer that can comfortably switch to plan B or C; making unknown mishaps welcome surprises. So while interviewing the best person for the job ask them how they have navigated unforeseen situations in the past.
7. EXPECTATIONS! We all have them and it is important that your photographer is clear about yours. For ex: If you want a gorgeous sunset photo, but you are getting married a week before daylight saving time and your portrait sitting is not starting till 6 PM (depending on where you live) you might miss this dream shot.
8. Once you have picked your photographer, it's never too early to go over details and plan time frames; this will help your photographer to start prepping for your day.
As wedding photographers, we are honored to be apart of such an important day in your life. Here at Terri Diamond Photography, we take weddings very seriously. Not only is our team made up of artist and professionals, we have the expertise and systems in place to make sure your wedding photography goes smoothly and you love your images.
Tips on Choose the Right Photographer for Your Event
We all know parties are a lot of work. After putting so much effort into finding the right event planner, like Lawrence Scott Events, to organize your fabulous party, you don't want all your efforts to fade away once your event ends. So, hiring the right photographer for your soiree is paramount in preserving the feeling and fun of the night.
When you are researching event photographers, there are a few things to keep in mind: try to find a photographer who shares your vision and aesthetic, conduct interviews & review portfolios, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Having a vision for your event or party is great but if you rely on iPhone photos or you don't hire a photography studio; you're not going to enjoy your images.
When looking for a professional photographer, finding a photographer who shares your aesthetic will help capture the night the way you envisioned; because let's face it, those iPhone photos are going to do your party justice.
To have a better chance of finding a photographer who will cover your event in your style, it is best to learn about the photographer by reviewing their portfolio and having an initial phone call. As photographers, we like when our clients get involved and give us as much information to make sure we are a good matched and prepped for the event. This is also a time to talk about special requests. For example, for Alan's 60th Birthday party, the client requested that the studio's photographer shoot more of a documentary style that made the guest feel like they weren't being photographed. So, our photographer shot as if she was a fly on a wall and mostly out of sight of guests.
Just like special requests, don't feel afraid to ask questions. Asking questions lets your photographer know what your expectation is and also gives you a clearer view of the photographer. Here are so great questions to keep in mind when you are looking for your next event photographer:
How many photographers are on your team? How many can be available for my event?
How many hours of coverage will we get?
Is overtime an option? if so, how much do you charge per hour?
What happens if you get sick?
What’s the delivery timeline?
How can I view my photos?
As mentioned earlier, we had the pleasure of covering Alan's 60th Birthday Party at Dirty French located within The Ludow Hotel in the Lower East Side. Lawrence Scott did a wonderful job in creating not only gorgeous party but a memorable night. Take a look into the party and you'll see!
