What's My Secret (05)

Sephora What’s My Secret (05) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium-dark, grape purple with warm, pink undertones and a glossy, cream finish and barely-there micro-pearl. It did not appear shimmery to my eye in person, but there were very fine pearls in the close-up photos. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in one pass, which adhered evenly and smoothly across my lips. The lipstick was creamy, emollient, and a bit slippery but managed not to feather or slide around while I wore it. This shade lasted nicely for five hours and was moisturizing over time.

Formula Overview

$13.00/0.1 oz. - $130.00 Per Ounce

The lipstick is supposed to have a "silky smooth melting formula" that yields "intense long-lasting color and high-shine" with "instant hydration." Most shades were creamy without being so slippery that they felt that way or went on unevenly. They do melt quickly, though, so if they are left in a warmer area (with all my photography lights running) and applied, they feel substantially creamier than at room temperature (about 72 degrees).

The texture was smooth, creamy, and comfortable to apply and to wear with most of the shades applying well, though lighter and very deep shades tended to have application problems. The lighter shades tended to separate and sit in my lip lines, while deeper shades were less pigmented and more prone to patchiness (but didn't pull into my lip lines as noticeably as the lighter shades did). The majority of the shades had semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation with a few coming in at more medium to semi-opaque coverage.

As there are 30 shades in the range, wear time definitely varied from three to six hours, depending on depth and pigment level with deeper, redder shades lasting longer than pale beiges and peaches. The formula has been moderately hydrating without feathering on me so far, but I'm not particularly prone to that but would worry about it for those who find it a more frequent occurrence with some of the deeper shades in the lineup.

They had a scent that Sephora lists as having these notes: "vanilla, peony, and intrepid patchouli," and I'd describe the scent as a subtle, sweet, vanilla-floral hybrid mix (nothing specific to my nose) and on most shades, I didn't notice a taste but some shades gave me a bit of one (enough that I was like, "hmm").

Hear Me Roar (08)

Sephora Hear Me Roar (08) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium-dark berry with subtle, cool undertones and a glossy, cream finish and barely-there pearl. It had semi-opaque color coverage in a single layer, which went on smoothly without tugging. The color seemed to be fairly even, but I think the lack of opacity coupled with the hue itself seemed to emphasize the natural unevenness of my actual lip color. The consistency was lightweight, moderately emollient, and comfortable to wear. It stayed on well for five hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Dare to Be (28)

Sephora Dare to Be (28) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a light, bubblegum pink with cool, bluish undertones and a glossy, cream finish. It had medium to semi-opaque color coverage that didn’t build up well due to the more emollient consistency that became quite slippery when built up. The texture was lightweight, creamy, and comfortable to apply and to wear, but I found that this shade had enough slip that it did sink into my lip lines more noticeably. It lasted for three hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Rise Above (17)

Sephora Rise Above (17) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. It had good color payoff in a single layer, which adhered fairly evenly and smoothly across my lips. The lipstick felt creamy with moderate slip, and it did settle into my lip lines a bit, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It stayed on well for four hours and was lightly moisturizing while worn.

Slay (18)

Sephora Slay (18) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium pink with warm undertones and a cream finish. The color coverage was semi-opaque in one layer, but the formula didn’t lend itself to being buildable as it felt too slick when I did so. The texture was creamy, lightweight, and emollient, and it seemed to show in how this one looked on my lips–sank into some of my lip lines, caught on lip texture, and didn’t go on as evenly as it could have. The lipstick wore well for three and a half hours and was lightly moisturizing while worn.

Formula Overview

$13.00/0.1 oz. - $130.00 Per Ounce

CEO (13)

Sephora CEO (13) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a brighter, medium pink-coral with soft, warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage that adhered fairly evenly, but it seemed to emphasize my lip imperfections and settled into a few of my lip lines–though way less than I’d expect based on how creamy and emollient the texture of it was. It stayed on well for four and a half hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Be the Boss (12)

Sephora Be the Boss (12) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a bright, poppy red with warmer undertones and a glossy, cream finish with the barest hint of micro-shimmer (not enough that I’d call it shimmery!). The consistency was creamy, balm-like, and had moderate slip to the point where it felt like it melted as I glided across my lips. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied smoothly and didn’t sit in my lip lines. It wore well for five hours and was lightly hydrating over time. I didn’t experience feathering myself, but it had the type of texture where I could see it being a potential concern for those who may be more prone to feathering.

Formula Overview

$13.00/0.1 oz. - $130.00 Per Ounce

The lipstick is supposed to have a "silky smooth melting formula" that yields "intense long-lasting color and high-shine" with "instant hydration." Survivor (10)

Sephora Survivor (10) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a rich red with neutral-to-cool undertones and a cream finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque in one pass, which adhered evenly and smoothly across my lips. The texture was lightweight, balm-like–emollient and glossy–but it didn’t feather beyond my natural lip line while worn. I really loved how much it smoothed out my lip texture and lip lines as well. It wore well for five hours, left a faint stain behind, and was hydrating while worn.

Love Wins (09)

Sephora Love Wins (09) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. It was very “fruit punch” in color–bright and rich enough to be more like a fuchsia but not warm enough to be a pink-coral. The texture was creamy, emollient, and had moderate slip going on but didn’t slide around too noticeably during wear. It had nearly opaque color coverage that went on evenly and didn’t settle into my lip lines. It wore well for five and a half hours and left a pinkish stain behind, while the formula felt hydrating over time.

Empowered (04)

Sephora Empowered (04) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a rich, deep red with subtle, cool undertones and a glossy, cream finish with barely-there pearl–the pearl seemed to contribute more to the shine than making it appear shimmery on. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which adhered smoothly and evenly across my lips without dragging. What I was most impressed by was how creamy and emollient the formula felt and yet smoothed out most of my lip lines. This shade stayed on nicely for five hours and was moisturizing while worn.

Inspire (23)

Sephora Inspire (23) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a brighter, peachy-oranger with strong, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that adhered unevenly and clumped along imperfections on my lips (and I did exfoliate prior!). The texture was creamy, emollient, and slippery, so I could feel the product moving around while worn. This shade stayed on well for two and a half hours but there was a fair amount of color that settled into my lip lines over that time; at least the formula was lightly moisturizing!

To the Left (24)

Sephora To the Left (24) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a light-medium, pink-peach with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage that did not build up beyond there–the creamier, more emollient texture didn’t lend itself to building either, as then it felt slipper and thicker on my lips. The lipstick was creamy, quick to melt against my lips, and glided easily across my lips but the product applied unevenly, caught on imperfections on my lips, and settled noticeably into my lip lines, which only worsened over the three hours it lasted for. The formula was lightly moisturizing, though.

Fearless (25)

Sephora Fearless (25) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a soft, light-medium coral with warm, peach tones and a cream finish. It had good pigmentation in a single layer, but it didn’t apply as evenly as desired given that the product clumped up along any imperfections on my lips. The texture was lightweight, creamy with moderate slip, and comfortable to apply and to wear, but there was product that settled into my lip lines while worn. It lasted well for four hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

No Regrets (21)

Sephora No Regrets (21) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a muted, rosy brown with subtle, warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. For as much as slip as the formula had, the color went on fairly evenly and didn’t settle into my lip lines as much as I would have expected. It had good pigmentation in a single layer that applied without dragging. The lipstick had a lightly creamy, balm-like feel as it went across my lips that melted quickly. It stayed on nicely for four hours and was lightly moisturizing while worn.

Riot Girl (26)

Sephora Riot Girl (26) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark brown with neutral-to-cool undertones and a glossy, cream finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that felt balm-like as it melted against the warmth of my lips. I was impressed by how it didn’t seem to settle into my lip lines and helped my lips appear a bit smoother overall. It wore well for four hours and was lightly hydrating.

Strong as Helle (27)

Sephora Strong as Helle (27) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a light-medium coral with stronger, warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which did not build up–I’d attribute that more to how emollient and slippery the formula was, as it just didn’t layer up well. The product was more prone to emphasizing my lip texture along with some sinking into my lip lines, but the glossier finish made it less apparent at a normal viewing distance (e.g. in person, not in a close-up photo!). It lasted for three hours but was lightly hydrating over time.

Not Your Baby (15)

Sephora Not Your Baby (15) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium pink with moderate, warm undertones and a glossy, craem finish. It had good pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly across my lips without dragging. There was a smidgen of product in my deeper lip lines but not enough that it was noticeable from a normal viewing distance. The texture was lightly creamy, emollient without being too slippery, though it melted easily against my lips so be careful not to over-apply (it’s so smooth!). It wore well for four and a half hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Rise Up (03)

Sephora Rise Up (03) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had good color coverage–just shy of full coverage–that applied fairly evenly, though it had a more slippery texture that did show in the application. There was a bit of product that sat in my deeper lip lines and light streaking along the edges of my lips. While the consistency was comfortable to apply and glided easily across my lips, the creaminess could have been dialed back ever-so-slightly to make it more flattering on. It stayed on well for four hours and was lightly moisturizing while worn.
