Xiaomi has developed a new smartphone which has the screen ratio of 22.5: 9 making its form ultra-extended. The smartphone is called Xiaomi Qin 2 and it has an extended touch screen putting Sony’s 21:9 display phone to shame. Xiaomi arranged for a funding event for the smartphone. The future of the Qin 2 would be dependant on the success of the fundraising event. Those who will sponsor the production, the cost of the phone would be $73. However, the exact price of the smartphone is not clear and will get to know after the sale starts.
Other than having the 22.5:9 display screen, the specifications of the phone is quite basic. It has an IPS matrix and a resolution of 1440×576 pixels. Xiaomi Qin 2 will be available in four colors – red, pink, blue and classic black. Xiaomi officials have said the elongated display would be an advantage for people to hold the phone comfortably, especially for girls who have small palms. Sony which had released a similar smartphone with an elongated display had said that the smartphone would be suited best for watching movies and video clips.
Xiaomi Qin 2 looks like it has a compact design and its use of the plastic body reduces its weight to 105 grams which is very light. The Qin 2 is equipped with the Android 9 Go Edition which is a special version of the mobile OS of Google adapted or low-power smartphones.
MIUI 10 may be present in the phone as Xiaomi installs it on the majority of its devices. However, Xiaomi Qin 2 features only 1 GB of RAM and runs on the Unisoc SC9832E processor, something suited for entry-level chips. Qin 2 has 32 GB worth of permanent memory with the possibility of expanding through microSD memory cards. It also has a 2100 mAh battery, a USB-C interface, an infrared port to control home appliances, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a separate voice assistant launch button, and a 5 MP main camera.
A draft bill made its way online, last week was talking about banning cryptocurrency in India. However, no laws have been passed regarding the ban and the Indian central bank which is actively involved in the decision had refused to comment on this matter.
The bill spurred a lot of debate among the Indian economists and businessmen alike. Hence, it was necessary for the Government to step up and release an official statement. The members of the Upper House of the Indian Parliament, Mr. Dharmapuri Srinivas and S. Gnanathiraviam voiced this concern in the parliament and Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur, the Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs, addressed the queries raised by Srinivas and Gnanathiraviam. Mr. Srinivas and Mr. Gnanathiraviam wanted to know whether the government has banned cryptocurrency in India or not, and if they have, they asked to disclose the details.
Mr. Thakur confirmed that no such decision has been made by the government and said,
The issue of permitting trading in cryptocurrencies is currently under examination by an Inter-Ministerial Committee(IMC). – Mr. Thakur
He further mentioned, “Presently, there is no separate law for dealing with issues relating to cryptocurrencies.” Without any proper consultation and weighing in the ramifications, the government cannot deal with or be done away with a currency which holds such an ambiguous position worldwide.
Srinivas has also inquired if the government has taken note of the prevalence of cryptocurrency in the country. Thakur answered that the IMC has been set up under the Finance Secretary of India and that the IMC has submitted the report to the government. He further added, “No decision on licensing and authorizing any entity or company to operate such schemes or deal with Bitcoins or any virtual currency has been made as yet.”
Keeping in mind the existing laws and Bitcoin legality, the question about the possible action to be taken against those who are responsible for running the cryptocurrency in the market are raised. Thakur replied that due to the absence of any rules pertaining to crypto at the moment, the general penal codes are applied to cryptocurrencies.
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has decided to commercialize the NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation), India’s very own navigation system that was launched in 2016.
ISRO’s plans to implement the NavIC in smartphones contribute significantly to the Make in India initiative which was launched in September 2014 with the primary goal of making India a global manufacturing hub by promoting manufacturing of products within the country.
India currently makes use of GPS made and owned by America. India is all set to join the GPS global market and compete with players like GLONASS (Russia), BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (China) and Galileo (Europe).
A new chip that supports the NavIC needs to be developed in order to put the navigation system to use on smartphones. ISRO is reportedly engaging in discussions with chipmakers like Qualcomm and Broadcom to that end.
NavIC has been claimed by ISRO to have greater accuracy as compared to GPS, the reason being that NavIC works on dual-frequency bands (S and L) while Global Positioning System works only on the L band. ISRO NavIC can even boast of giving directions in a visual turn-by-turn manner when used in map applications.
Moreover, the Government of India has instructed all commercial vehicles registered after April 1, 2019, to be installed with the NavIC navigation system trackers.
PUBG has certainly made its mark on the video gaming world, as the majority of the population, especially the youth of our time got hooked to this game instantly, making the game one of the most popular games of all time. A few weeks ago, PUBG Corp. unveiled a new studio which would work on an “original narrative experience” of the PUBG universe, just like any other video game, to give it a more density.
The study was lead by the ex-Sledgehammer boss Glen Schofield. The idea of giving a narrative to the game set in the imaginary PUBG universe appears to be ludicrous to a lot of ardent PUBG lovers. The skepticism regarding the narrative was more intensified after the release of the new PUBG Season 4 cinematic trailer.
PUBG has always been a hangout game for most of its users and nothing more. The game was not meant to have some gripping back-story which would be followed by a narrative of some kind, a quest. PUBG was supposed to be just a video game where people can have some fun, and not get immersed in the story.
The game is only about killing each other on a gun-filled island. Not a single element of this seems believable, let alone reasonable. PUBG would have to come up with a really solid narrative to explain something so ludicrous. The PUBG Season 4 Cinematic trailer shows dropships filled with players, blacken the sky, god rays illuminate a sad water tower in a monochromatic field. A boy is scared that the world is ruined, and a millionaire watches on as the common people struggle to survive.
The only thing making sense about the PUBG Season 4 Cinematic trailer is the ignorance of the rich man standing at a distance and watching people suffer. May be, PUBG Corp. is trying to answer some questions regarding the origin of such a story where people kill each other without rhyme or reason. This could also be the untold story of Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene or simply be the first chicken dinner.
An investment company, Mangrove, in its report called Voice Tech 2019 has predicted that Apple may announce its SiriOS at the WWDC next year. The report is mainly concerned with many voice-based technologies in their current state and tries to predict what those companies might do with their technology in the upcoming years.
So far, Mangrove has predicted that the number of voice-based technologies would increase in the future, and as a result, becoming extremely popular in the coming decade. With the already booming business of voice-based technology, the report assumes that the users prefer to rely on voice commands for smart devices, rather than manually controlling them.
One of the main reasons for this, as cited by the report itself, is that using voice is “far more natural, convenient and efficient” than using, say, a keyboard. Many companies are already using their voice-based technology to lure in customers and they have succeeded so far. If a company like Apple, too, follows the same path, the growth of this business will increase exponentially.
Following this data, Mangrove has predicted the arrival of SiriOS which, as the name suggests, will be, if it ever materializes, a platform dedicated to Siri digital assistant. However, this is only a prediction made by Mangrove and until Apple releases an official statement stating the existence and arrival of the SiriOS, this prediction should be treated just as a prediction, and nothing more.
Siri is, without a doubt, a notch inferior to other assistants available today on the market, such as Amazon’s Alexa or Google Assistant because of all restrictions put on Siri. If Siri is to get a platform of its own, many of its restrictions would gradually be removed giving Siri the space to perform more and with equal diligence, if not more. No matter how good the SiriOS sounds until Apple releases an official statement regarding this, SiriOS would only be a part of a prediction and nothing more.
Google will be releasing its next update which would give importance to its Bluetooth Fast Pair feature. What this means for the Bluetooth paired headphones is that Google will make it easier to monitor the battery life of wireless earbuds in Android.
A new interface, reportedly, is almost ready to be added in the Android Q so that Google could manage the Fast Pair-enabled headphones with device management features, Google Assistant settings, battery life information, and links to third-party management apps all in one place. As a competition to Apple’s quick AirPods pairing, in 2017 Google had released the Fast Pair technology.
Google’s technology uses Bluetooth Low Energy and an Android phone’s location to automatically discover Bluetooth accessories in close proximity and a single tap connects the device to the Bluetooth device. Google’s blog post which announced such an update, wrote, “As True Wireless Stereo (TWS) headphones continue to gain momentum in the market and with users, it is important to build system-wide support for TWS. Later this year, TWS headsets with Fast Pair will be able to broadcast individual battery information for the case and buds. This enables features such as case open and close battery notifications and per-component battery reporting throughout the UI.”
The Android Truly Wireless headphones which support the fast pairing would be able to show individual battery life data both for the case and each of the earbuds. While opening or closing the case, the information will be shown in a pop-up notification which would indicate the battery life.
Google’s updated Fast Pair headphones would also start appearing in Google’s Find My Device app so that the option of unpairing or ringing the missing buds is incorporated in it. Google spokesperson has confirmed that the new features would reach all the Fast Pair-enabled headphones including the Google Pixel Buds, Bose’s QuietComfort 35 II, JBL Live 220BT, 400BT and other existing headphones. Google has not given a particular time for the release of Android Truly Wireless headphones update, but has mentioned that it would available “later this year.”
Today marks the fiftieth anniversary of man’s first landing on moon.
On July 20, 1969, first spaceflight – Apollo 11- landed on the lunar surface at 20:17 UTC with Commander Neil Armstrong, Pilot Michael Collins, and Pilot Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, and Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans in history to set foot on the Moon.
That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”, uttered when he places his left foot on the surface of the moon, is widely popular. – Armstrong’s famous words
The historic landing site is now called the Sea of Tranquility.
This landmark event was watched on television by half a billion people.
Kennedy Space Centre was the place from where Armstrong, Aldrin, and Michael Collins, the third crew member took off for the moon 50 years ago.
Michael Collins, now aged 88, spoke at a Washington event on July 18, recollecting his experience of watching the Moon up close and the Earth from the lunar sphere. Collins had stayed in the lunar orbit where he was in touch with ground control and was providing them updates on his position.
He stated that he was most affected by the awe-inspiring view of the Earth from the Moon.
When we rolled out and looked at (the Moon), oh, it was an awesome sphere…The Sun was behind it, so it was illuminated by a rim of gold which made the strangest appearances of the craters and crater pits, the contrast between the whiter than white and darker than dark. – Speaking on the Moon, Collins
In spite of this magnificent view of the Moon, it was “nothing compared to this other window out there,” Collins continued.
“Out there was this little pea about the size of your thumbnail at arm’s length: blue, white, very shiny, you get the blue of the oceans, white of the clouds, streaks of rust we call continents, such a beautiful gorgeous tiny thing, nestled into this black velvet of the rest of the universe… I said to Mission control, ‘Hey, Houston, I’ve got the world in my window.'”
NASA plans to make the Moon a ‘testing ground’ where they can develop their technologies and deploy astronauts for longer periods of time.
NASA website states that “As a result of Artemis, NASA will be able to establish a sustainable human presence on the moon by 2028 to uncover new scientific discoveries, demonstrate new technological advancements, and lay the foundation for private companies to build a lunar economy.”
On the 2nd day of the San Diego Comic-Con 2019, that is, July 20th, fans assembled at its ‘The Witcher’ panel were treated to the first trailer for Netflix’s The Witcher series, which has received a widely positive response on social media.
The trailer, starring Henry Cavill as hero Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Ciri, the Princess of Cintra, and Anya Chalotra as sorceress Yennefer, is just one glimpse into the highly-anticipated TV series that has been in production
since 2017, with Daredevil and The Defenders producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich as the leading TV producer.
The Witcher is based on the fantasy series of short stories and novels written by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, and on the three-game series – CD Projekt Red.
As stated by Lauren Hissrich, the TV series would be a thorough adaptation of Sapkowski’s book series than that of the video games.
“The Witcher is the story of monster hunter Gerald as he struggles to find his place in a world “where people often prove more wicked than beasts,”
according to the logline. Destiny soon thrusts him together with Ciri, who holds a dangerous secret, and Yennefer as they navigate the Continent.
The characters in The Witcher do not fall under a monolithic category of either good or villainous. Characters have various shades of grey to them, and they defy expectations and presumptions.
Lauren Hissrich, in an interview with the Entertainment Weekly dated July 18, stated that there is no character in this series who can be termed as categorically villainous.
“There isn’t really a villain. One of the things we’re enjoying exploring is all the shades of grey in the books. The characters you’re rooting
for in the beginning may not be the characters you’re rooting for in the end. And characters you hate and seem absolutely evil are motivated by something
that’s relatable and human and emotional. I found writing it and then watching it afterward that your allegiance switches a lot. You constantly try to put yourself in the shoes of characters and think what would you do [in a situation]. I think you’ll end up having a lot of empathy for characters you didn’t expect to.”
The episodes of The Witcher TV series, speculated as being PG-rated, are supposed to be directed by Alik Sakharov (Game of Thrones), Alex Garcia Lopez (Marvel’s Luke Cage), and Charlotte Brändström (Outlander).
The Witcher is slated to arrive on Netflix this year.
SpaceX has big plans. Lots of them. From global, high-speed internet powered by thousands of satellites to Mars colonization, there’s no shortage of ideas coming out of the company and its founder, Elon Musk.
SpaceX is also in a position to make a big impact, whether good or bad. The prospect of affordable space travel could have major long-term effects on society, the economy, and the environment, and the results can be hard to predict. Let’s explore each one in detail.
One of the company’s more recent and ambitious endeavors is to provide satellite internet service to the entire planet. To power this global network, the company has received approval to put 12,000 satellites in orbit around the planet – a goal that could truly change the world. Madison Crader, an internet specialist at SatelliteInternet.com, explains, “Providing internet to the globe will revolutionize not only economies but also education and social support for individuals everywhere. It can give a voice online to billions of people who currently have no access to the internet, helping raise awareness of social issues and how we can improve everyone’s quality of life.”
Part of the deal is that at least half of the satellites need to be operational by the mid-2020s, so this network is coming soon, and the possibilities that global internet access opens up for both individuals and larger businesses and organizations are huge. The sheer number of satellites in orbit could make space a more dangerous place for manned flights, though, so this is something the company will need to watch out for.
SpaceX’s (relatively) affordable space flight may also help speed up the process of getting the average citizen into space. Also called space tourism, the prospect is currently available only to the ultra-rich, but with costs dropping significantly because of the reusable nature of the rockets, the company could help speed up the process of getting you and me into orbit.
Lastly, Elon Musk’s goal of colonizing Mars could have major implications for the future of the human race. While it’s still a long way from becoming reality, plans are in the works to send people to the Red Planet, a mission to Mars, and a colony could follow once that mission is successful. This opens up possibilities for relieving overpopulation here on Earth, as well as adding a whole new dimension to the idea of relocating for a job.
The drastically reduced cost of launching a SpaceX rocket could also have big impacts on the future of our economy. As the process of getting people and infrastructure to space gets cheaper, more companies will be able to take advantage of the final frontier. Experts predict that accessible space flight could have economic impacts on par with the PC and internet booms of the ’80s and ’90s. Space tourism could even create a whole new industry with jobs to go with it. And let’s not forget that global internet network and the competition that could generate.
Rocket launches could be rough on the environment. Now, SpaceX rockets are significantly better for the environment than more traditional rockets or vehicles like the Space Shuttle because the rockets are reusable (in theory). However, Carly Cassella at ScienceAlert.com notes that some recent events show Musk may be less engaged in protecting the environment than the company wants you to believe with debris being left or lost without much care. “If Musk wants to make reusable rockets a thing, he better start amping up his company’s recycling efforts,” Cassella warns.
On top of lost debris, the fuel burned puts out a lot of carbon emissions, which are detrimental to the ozone layer. The SpaceX rockets still burn roughly 440 tons of kerosene and liquid oxygen per stage-1 launch – in the case of the Falcon Heavy. And while that might be better than old-school rockets, the company has plans to launch a lot of them. Roughly one or more a month, in fact. These emissions could add up over time, especially with the atmosphere already compromised.
Whatever your feelings on SpaceX and the CEO Elon Musk, it’s clear the two are set to have an important impact on the future of our planet. The next decade is going to be an exciting one as these plans unfold and humanity takes its next big steps forward.
