Shannon Rosie Barge

What are you most passionate about and how do you express it in the way you live and work?

I am so passionate about the health journey. My mission is to help my clients wake up tomorrow just a little bit healthier than they were today. It’s the little consistent changes which will make the biggest difference long term. I love helping to educate people on how they can nourish and love their body.

What does being beautiful mean to you?

Beautiful is the harmony between body and mind. Feeling clear and light both physically and mentally. Being present in your body, alive, happy and glowing.

What is your go-to beauty ritual and how often do you do it?

I have recently done a total non-toxic overhaul of all my beauty products. Every morning after the gym I wash my face and moisturise, then do the same at night. I also put a lot of focus on healing my skin from the inside out. When you use natural products that don’t bother your skin it will then naturally communicate to you how your body is feeling on the inside. I make sure to notice any changes (such as eczema, dry skin, eye bags) and adjust my lifestyle accordingly. When we use toxic skincare products they block your skin from truly communicating this.

Do you share any beauty/wellness rituals with friends and family? if so, what are they and what do you feel are the benefits?

Absolutely. If you follow me on Instagram (@LivingWithRosie) I am always sharing products I love as well as nutritionist skincare tips. Most of them I save in my ‘skin’ highlights too.

How do you maintain your energy or your feel-good vibes even when things get very busy and potentially stressful or overwhelming?

Honestly, this is something I have only recently “mastered”. After a very stressful year last year I had to prioritise my self-care. Its all about disconnecting from your head and getting back into your body. Put the phone down and do something for you – preferable outside! For me it’s going for a walk on the beach and playing with every puppy I can.

Who are your biggest influences? Who do you admire most? Who or what inspired you to do what you’re doing now?

I can’t think of anybody specific but right now I am just so inspired by everyone I meet who is speaking their truth. Anyone who is getting at it and following their true passion. It takes courage to step away from what you feel like you “should” be doing and follow your true path. I wasn’t exactly inspired to do what I do more, more my past led me here. A long history of health conditions which were not helped at all my mainstream medicine led me to look into alternative options. As soon as I saw the amazing results that could come from it; I was hooked.

What do you appreciate about Synthesis Organics? Is there any specific message you’d like to share with our Tribe?

Synthesis Organics is so much more than a beauty product brand. They create a community of like-minded women who are all working together to improve the lives of those around us. The connection is everything in life and SO make that happen.

What do you want your legacy to be? How do you want to be remembered / what impact do you want to leave in the world?

I want to spread the health and wellness message as wide as I can. Honestly when I get messaged from a friend of a friend of friends, aunts mums, second cousin who says I have helped them with some element of their health it lights my soul on fire.

Synthesis Organics is handcrafted in the picturesque village of the Byron Bay hinterlands. Creator and founder, Theme Rains, showcases the slow skincare philosophy perfectly. “Artisan crafting takes time. It’s a labour intensive process focused on providing quality over quantity. So why do we do it?”.

She continues to explain, “the advantage of artisanally crafting in small batches for our customers, is that we are able to ensure our skincare isas fresh as possible when they receive it and avoid the need for synthetic preservatives”.

Next time you thump down on a runway somewhere, ready for the adventure ahead, make sure your face is as ready as the rest of you is.

Just near Byron Bay (of course), Synthesis, a small company run by Theme Rains, is blending up some of the exquisite organic face products around. Synthesis Travel Collection features seven tiny bottles of magic potions, deisgned to support faces in canging climes and time zones.

Rains suggested a pre-flight routine of applying the Enzyme Cleanser, then Hydrate Tonic, followed by a thick layer of the Brighten Vit C Serum to wear as a hydrating mask. Next, add a rich layer of Replenish Eye Cream. For me, it’s the blast of the luxurious Australian scents come shower time on day four or five that really brinsd you home.

DISRUPTING THE SYSTEM: Producers Market wants Tasmanian farmers to join producers from around the world to use its global marketing platform. Picture: Shutterstock

Traceability is one of the latest buzzwords when it comes to agriculture, with consumers not only wanting to track where their food comes from, but also where it has been before it ends up in their mouth.

New business Producers Market plans to provide this level of traceability through a digital platform that decentralises the agricultural value chain.

Producers Market will help producers market their products to wholesale buyers around the world.

Co-founder and executive director Keith Agoada said Producers Market would allow farmers to get more profit for their crops by cutting out the middleman, while helping consumers track the produce.

Consumers demand insight into how the product gets from the farm to the home.

Keith Agoada
The idea for the producer’s platform came through Mr Agoada’s years of working in agriculture and distribution.

“We created Producers Market to empower farmers, producers, processors and packagers both domestically and globally,” he said.

“Connectivity is very important in our industry. Consumers demand insight into how the product gets from the farm to the home.”

The platform is already in beta testing with 20 producers, including northern NSW organics business Synthesis Organics.

“We’re very excited about our partnership with Synthesis. We feel that telling their story will be a great step for our platform,” he said.

Once the testing phase is finalised within four to six months, Mr Agoada wants to build Producers Market to 100 – and he wants Tasmanian producers on board.

Synthesis Organics is blessed with some incredible heart-felt ambassadors, and this page is all about introducing them to you. Each of them offers Synthesis workshops and represents our conscious lifestyle and true beauty philosophy.

Nancy Chalmers

Nancy Chalmers, otherwise known as Jungle Shakti, is a certified Health Coach, Holistic Nutritionist & Yoga Teacher. She is also a qualified Reiki practitioner specialising in chakra balancing, intuitive ‘spirit’ portraits, and creative visualisation techniques. An Australian native who makes her home wherever there is sun, sand and jungle, Nancy is a true gypsy-nomad, going wherever the tropical breeze takes her and currently lives in Bali. She follows the Bhakti Yoga tradition (the yoga of love and devotion!), is a passionate vegan, and a lover of life!

What does a Synthesis Lifestyle mean to you? (e.g. things you do, believe, practice to maintain your optimum wellbeing and true beauty)

A Synthesis Lifestyle, for me, is about living a life in sync with mother nature – compassionately created and free from artificial ingredients. I love using products based around nature’s ancient medicine – pure botanicals, flower essences and essential oils. As a vegan and holistic nutritionist, I really care about what I put into my body, so it makes sense to care what I put ON it too.

What is your favourite Synthesis product and why?

The Soothe Cleansing Oil. Especially because I can use it in beauty rituals like a luscious self-care facial massage. I use it whenever my skin needs a bit of loving attention. It took me a long time to understand that oil was not the enemy, but drying it out with harsh chemicals was! So every time I use it, I feel like I’m showing my skin some love and it will love me back. Plus, I swear it keeps me looking younger!

Please get in touch with Nancy to organise a workshop, Synthesis experience or just to connect.

An increasing number of people are turning vegan for myriad reasons – be it ethical, health-related or simply because they recognise the positive impact a nutrient-rich plant-based diet can have on their overall wellbeing.

Interested in going vegan, but still uncertain about making the change? Check out these key factors fuelling the vegan movement.

1. Nourishment for the body

Pulses, whole grains and colourful veggies are naturally rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals but perhaps even more important is the fact that changing to a plant-fuelled lifestyle requires a certain level of consciousness. The choices you make become more considered, leading people to take more care over what they’re consuming.

2. Good for the planet

Environmental experts believe that cutting out meat and dairy consumption is the single biggest way we can reduce our environmental footprint. Why? Not only do livestock occupy a huge amount of global farmland (around 83%), resulting in deforestation, wildlife extinction and water pollution, but animals also produce an enormous amount of greenhouse gas (which we all know is bad for the planet).

3. Psychological wellbeing

Aside from feeling good about making yourself and the planet healthier, going vegan is thought to improve mental wellbeing. Not so surprising given the mind-body connection, but the real key is the fact that plant-based foods are packed with particular nutrients that boost brain health. Think magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids and complex carbohydrates. Anyone up for a mood-boosting-chia-powder smoothie?

4. Boost your skin health

By eating a diet high in legumes, nuts, seeds and vegetables you’re automatically consuming an array of skin-loving nutrients. However, there’s more to it than that. A high-fibre plant-based diet is also good for gut health, leading to better elimination of toxins from the body, the ability to more readily absorb vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and reduced inflammation. The result? A clearer complexion and healthier-looking skin.

An understanding of the importance of skin health, teamed with a growing demand for natural, cruelty-free products, has given way to the rise of ‘vegan beauty’. Free from animal by-products, vegan beauty products use natural ingredients, typically less packaging and don’t test on animals, so you can nourish and care for your skin without compromising animal welfare or the health of the planet.

5. Celebrity vegans are on the rise

If saving the planet, protecting animals and boosting your health hasn’t convinced you to go vegan, perhaps your favourite celebrity can! A plethora of famous faces has taken the vegan pledge. Rumoured celebrity vegans include Brad Pitt, Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Jay Z, Joaquin Phoenix, Ellen DeGeneres, Mike Tyson, Russell Brand, Natalie Portman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Liam Hemsworth, Casey Affleck…gosh, the list goes on!

6. Vegan-friendly bank balance

Turning vegan might not only benefit your health, but your bank balance too. Let’s face it, meat and dairy are expensive whereas plant-based proteins, veggies and grains won’t cost you much. Also, a vegan diet requires a little extra consideration which, while often resulting in more varied dinners, is likely to lead to less wastage and better bang for your buck (or should we say ‘dinners for your dollars’!).

7. It’s never been so easy to go vegan

Gone are the days of scouring supermarket shelves looking for ‘dairy or meat-free’ options. Never have there been so many vegan-friendly and cruelty-free alternatives on the market, incorporating food, fashion, cosmetics, household products, hair care and skincare—such as Synthesis Organics, which is proud to be Certified Vegan.

What’s more, going vegan gives rise to creativity, innovation and inspiration as you look for new interesting ways to find meat-free replacements, grow your knowledge and meet interesting people with similar views.

8. Supercharge positive vibes

By adopting a vegan lifestyle you are addressing animal cruelty, questioning animal welfare and helping reduce our environmental footprint. For most people, the knowledge that you’re contributing to a positive future brings inner happiness. There’s no denying a sunny outlook is better for your health and a sure fire way to inject positivity into all aspects of your life, making veganism a win-win for you and the planet.

The option to go vegan is there. The choice is yours!
