About 1 ½ years ago when I started at Swimtastic I was given a student named Mary. She took private lessons because she was very nervous in the water. I knew right away that I needed to gain her trust. Some students start lessons with a fear of the water; Creating a bond with Mary wouldn't be simple.

At Swimtastic, our goal is to teach swimming through a positive, safe and loving environment. We recognize that each swimmer has different emotional and developmental abilities and we cater lessons to each individual's needs.

Parents and first time learners often have questions about lessons and swimming in an indoor pool versus an outdoor pool. We're therefore addressing the differences and adding in some tips to help along the way. If you have questions on making your lesson more comfortable, water temperature or what a 'rash guard' is, then read on!

When most of our new families think swim lessons, they first associate water safety and drowning prevention tactics. Then as their swimmers get older and gain more swim skills, they contemplate swim outlets for sport and exercise. Remember, Swimtastic Swim schools provide this as well through our program Waves. When working out at the gym, in an exercise class, or outside, we prepare our bodies to work muscles and burn calories. The same goes for swim lessons. And what we would like our swim families to know is that no matter your level of swim skill, your body is going through a workout in the water.

When people think about swim lessons, most associate them with small children, which is great since learning skills when young forms habits that continue throughout a lifetime. At Swimtastic Swim Schools, our primary target is to promote water safety in the young and get future generations loving the water. But what we are also seeing in our markets is many adults do not know how to swim. Most of these adults, in the 50 plus segment, cite a bad water experience as a child and have since stayed out of the water due to fear of drowning. Many also never had the opportunity to learn basic swim strokes or competitive strokes when they were younger. Luckily, Swimtastic does provide adult lessons as an ongoing program. We are able to provide our adult students with privacy and the confidence needed to get over years of fear of the water and ensure their water safety.
