On the Aging GreatFULLy show, we say regularly, "You're Never too Old!" And this week's guest, author Jim P. Owen, proves this perfectly! On his 70th Birthday, he looked into the mirror and decided if he was going to live a long, meaningful life, he needed to make some changes. A former self-proclaimed "certified couch potato," Jim set out on a mission to Just Move -- every single day! And he hasn't stopped since! Jim says if he can do it, you can too!
After a successful 35-year Wall Street career, James P. Owen found new purpose in being an author, inspirational speaker, and social entrepreneur. His book, Cowboy Ethics, a best-seller with more than 150,000 copies in circulation, and two follow-up volumes, Cowboy Values and The Try, put a spotlight on the importance of shared values and personal character in our society. Along the way, Jim established a nonprofit foundation, the Center for Cowboy Ethics and Leadership, to help support and amplify those ongoing programs.
Now Jim has expanded his focus, becoming a passionate evangelist for fitness as a way of life. In his speaking engagements, he reminds audiences that being in shape helps older adults stay mobile, active, and independent, enabling a quality of life no amount of money can buy. Fitness could also play an important role in combating serious chronic diseases and controlling health care costs as our nation’s over-50 population balloons.
"JUST MOVE Book A New Approach to Fitness After Fifty," highlights Jim's journey from living an unhealthy, sedentary life of being a poster-child for looming old age, to now being 78 years young and in the best shape of his life! This week we uncover even more ways towards Aging GreatFULLy across the lifespan! With guest, Scandinavian Living Center's executive director, Joe Carella, who shares how as a young teenager he was driven to the career path to change the culture of aging. He is the author of Unlimited Options for Aging and Creating Unlimited Options for Aging: The Path Forward. Joe spent time on research in Scandinavia where he landed upon the community-centered living concept. He brought those ideas back to the U.S. in 2001 and redesigned the 100-year old Scandinavian Living Center, an assisted living community to abide by the models he embraced.
We'll explore the critical concepts of community-centered living and the Scandinavian Living Center's low-tech, grassroots movement around approaching elder care and senior housing differently, in a way that combats isolation and loneliness. This approach keeps residents active members of society, welcoming barrier-free connections on shared interests. Joe aims to spread awareness of these concepts, inspired that similar elements can be brought into nearly any community, enhancing it for the better. To learn more about Joe Carella's work or his book, visit www.slcenter.org/book.
Sometimes in life things happen that appear to be your worst nightmare. And it can happen when we least expect. We never see it coming. We may believe we are on top of the world. But what happens when your world as you knew it comes crashing down in an instant?

And ironically the winning victory can be discovered in a place you least expect it. That is the story of Ted W. Baxter. Ted was an auditor and management consultant at Price Waterhouse. He retired after twenty-two years in the financial industry. In April 2005, he experienced a massive ischemic stroke and aphasia. He now serves as an advocate, author and speaker on strokes, aphasia, inspiration and motivation. He volunteers at health institutions, is involved in philanthropic causes, and lives in Newport Beach. He is the author of: Relentless: How A Maassive Stoke Changed My Life For the Better.

What “Room” Are You In? The “Room” In Which Your Thoughts Reside Will Determine Your Quality of Business Success, Personal Relationships, Happiness & More!
The Three Rooms
Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life
By Kevin Murphy
Kevin Murphy Brings a New Approach to Transformative Living That is Simple, Easy-to-Grasp, and Profound
Is your mind residing in The Past Room, where regrets, past hurts, painful memories, grudges or other
memories are impacting you today? Or perhaps you are hanging out in The Future Room where worry,
anxiety or fear haunt you daily?
Kevin Murphy has a powerful new book, called The Three Rooms:
Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life (River Grove Books) that
actually shows you a roadmap to The Present Room, the one where
all of that fades away and you can fully blossom into your highest
potential, greatest success and a love-filled life.
While Eckhart Tolle and others have extolled the value of living in the present moment, many people have found that philosophy a challenge to implement. But the genius of Murphy’s new book is how easy and simple he makes it to realize when you are NOT—and how you can shift back into The Present Room.
Join us for the Aging GreatFULLy power-hour of enlightenment sure to deliver inspiration to positively transform your life journey!
