Generally, the perks of LED light panels are too many to count.

Look:

Obviously, you want to upgrade from bad to good lighting.

Therefore, the panel lights you choose should be better than the halogens, fluorescent grilles, or incandescent lights you’re currently using.

Here are a few benefits of using LED Panel Lights for you to compare and contrast:

1. Super-Efficient

Like all LED luminaries, panel lights are also very efficient when it comes to energy consumption.

On average, a panel fixture has an energy efficiency of 100lm/W; which is almost 8 times better than a similar incandescent bulb.

This is great, right?

For example:

A 100-Watt incandescent light emits roughly 1280 lumens, which means that its energy efficiency is 1280/100 = 12.8lm/W.

On the other hand, if you have a 100-Watt LED panel luminaire, it would emit 100 * 100 = 10,000 lumens.

Now, if you do the math, 10000/1280 = 7.8…

Which means that LED luminaries are almost eight times better; or offer an 800% improvement in efficiency from incandescent lights.

That’s not all!

2. Instant Switching

Admit it!

You get annoyed when you have to wait for fluorescents to flicker for a while before lighting up.

Well, if you can relate, you are not alone.

And luckily, with LED panel lights, this annoying inconvenience becomes a thing of the past.

Panel lights often switch on/off instantly.

And this is not the only item in their box of conveniences. LED panel luminaries are also noiseless, eco-friendly, non-toxic, and shadow-free.

Improved efficiency often translates to improved luminous efficacy.

What does this mean?

Well, it means that LED panels are better and brighter than fluorescent grilles and other old forms of lighting.

For example:

On average, grilles have a luminous efficacy of 50lm/W which is half of what you get from LED panels – 100lm/W.

4. Aesthetically Appealing

When it comes to beautifying your home or office space, nothing does it better than an LED wall panel light.

Why?

Well, these luminaries have an attractive, ultra-slim design that makes them easy to use in any type of setting; both residential and commercial.

This brings us to the next big question…

Chapter 4: How do I Choose the Best LED Panel Light for Home?

To get the best panel lights, there are a few factors that you’ll need to take into consideration.

For example, you can look into:

The amount of space in question: When it comes to lighting, the size of the space matters. Obviously, bigger spaces need more lighting and vice versa.

Luckily, LED companies like ShineLong Technologies often manufacture panel lights for all kinds of spaces. Their LED panels come with different luminous efficacies to fit any type of environment.

Your space’s décor: In order to play up your style and décor, your choice of LED panels must be able to blend in seamlessly.

That’s because some settings may look better with square panels while others appear stunning with disc LED panels.

Ideal dimensions: Since panels come in different shapes and dimensions, it’s wise to determine the right dimensions needed to spruce up your space.

Ease in the installation: Depending on the type, manufacturer, or shape of an LED panel, these luminaries may be easy or hard to install.

Always go for panels that are easy and safe to handle or install. This mitigates your chances of damaging the panel or incurring extra expenses to have someone install them for you.

LED panel light price: Sometimes, the price is also a point to consider. Obviously, you don’t want to spend so much on LED panels.

Moreover, cheap fixtures may indicate low quality. That’s why before making your decision, you need to do a short background check on the manufacturer.

Bonus tip:

Going through manufacturer ratings and reviews is always a good way to be sure about the quality of products.

Moving on:

People also ask…

Chapter 5: Which LED Panel Lights are Better, Round or Square?

Good question!

Despite the fact that they are almost similar in every aspect except shape, there are places where you can’t use a specific panel shape.

Don’t get it wrong.

The performance and luminosity will be the same, the only disadvantage might be a mismatch in terms of the décor and style.

Now:

Round LED panels, like the ShineLong Disc, are ideal for residential settings.

That’s because they often look great when mounted on hallway walls, kitchen ceiling, washrooms, bedrooms, and even, living rooms.

Round LED light panels are easy to install, look better, and can be used to make a space chic, warm, and well lit.

On the other hand:

Square or rectangular panels like the ShineLong Slice and ShineLong Intact LEDs are great for commercial use.

That’s because they often depict a sense of formality and professionalism.

This is why they are ideal for formal and public areas including offices, schools, hospitals, libraries, and so on.

In conclusion, it’s safe to say that LED panel lights are awesome lighting fixtures. Not only are they efficient and durable but also great for improving the aesthetics of a space.

Therefore, if you are still using old and inefficient lighting systems like fluorescent grilles, it’s time to make the upgrade.

LED Vs. Incandescent Lights – Which is the Best Lighting Technology?

For many decades, people only had one choice when it came to lighting bulbs – the incandescent bulbs. This soon changed with the introduction of CFL (compact fluorescent light) bulbs, which were marketed as a cheaper and a more energy efficient option. However, it was the entry of the LED light bulbs into the market that completely revolutionized lighting technology.

Initially used for as indicator lamps in electrical components and for background lighting in various electronics, LEDs have since become (perhaps) the most popular and preferred lighting bulbs. The main reason for this is their numerous advantages, which range from energy saving capabilities to long lifespan, durability, and more. Many people (for example, government institutions, environmentalists, LED lighting lobbyists, and others) have also been campaigning heavily to have the consumers switch from conventional lighting technologies (incandescent and CFL lights) to LED lights.

However, despite the several advantages LED lights to have to offer, and their ever-increasing popularity, many people still use conventional lights. You will be surprised to find out that some of these people (and a good number by that) use incandescent light bulbs. This begs the questions, why are people using incandescent light bulbs? Are they better than LED light bulbs?
Well in this article, we will take a look at both the LED and Incandescent lighting technologies to determine which of the two is the best.

LED VS. Incandescent Image
What is LED lights?

LEDs (light-emitting diodes) uses a two lead semiconductor diode as the light source. When the diode, a p-n junction diode, is activated with a positive and negative charge respectively, the energy band gap of the semiconductor diode emits light. This process is referred to as electroluminescence. As already stated, these semiconductor diodes were used for basic applications. However, as LED technology improved over the years, they began being used for lighting purposes.

Top 9 Advantages of LED lights

To understand which is the best lighting technology (between LED lighting and incandescent lighting), you must first understand the advantages and disadvantages of each. Below is a look at the advantages and drawbacks of LED lights.

1. They have a high energy efficiency

LEDs are one of the most energy efficient sources of lighting. They draw a very small amount of power and they have a high light output (up to 135 lumens per watt). Unlike other lighting sources (CFL and incandescent lights), LED lights also produce very little heat, and thus nearly all the power they draw is converted into light. On top of that, LED lights have a directional lighting capability, which helps to reduce light and energy wastage.

2. A longer lifespan

Unlike conventional lighting, LEDs do not burn or fail, instead, they dim over time. Quality lifetime can, therefore, last for a long time, some up to 50,000 hours. While the LED bulb you buy might not achieve such a long lifespan, you can be sure that it will last longer than incandescent bulbs, which burn out after around 1,000 hours.

Lifespan of LED vs incandescent
3. Highly durable

LED light bulbs are very durable. Their internal components are not delicate (there are no filaments) and thus they are resistant to breakage, vibrations, and even impacts. The design of LEDs also makes them more durable – they do not use glass or quartz on the interior and they are mounted and soldered on a circuit board.

4. Instant on operation

One of the main drawbacks of traditional light bulbs is that they do not produce the full amount of light the moment they are switched on; they require a few minutes to warm up and reach maximum brightness. While this might not be an issue in some situations, it can become very problematic in situations where the lights are being switched on and constantly. However, with LED lights, you never have to worry about this. Once they are switched on, they will reach maximum brightness instantly.

5. Can be operated in cold temperature

One of the most amazing benefits of LED lights is that they can be operated in low temperatures. In fact, unlike other types of lights, the performance of LEDs increases as the temperature decreases. LED lights are thus ideal for freezers, cold storage rooms, refrigerated display cases, parking lots, building perimeters, and other areas where temperatures can get very low.

6. They produce very little heat

In addition to being operated at cold temperatures, LED lights do not emit heat through infra-red radiation. Therefore, LED lights are very cool to the touch, which minimizes the risk of burn accidents. The fact that LEDs do not emit heat also makes them ideal for places that need to be kept cool, for example, cold storage rooms, freezers, and refrigerators, food processing facilities, etc. LEDs are also perfect for textile factories and exhibit rooms, where infra-red radiation can degrade the quality or writings of fabrics.

Energy Consumed of LED vs Incandescent
7. Environmental friendly

LEDs do not contain mercury or other toxic chemical substances that are used in the manufacture of conventional light fixtures. They also don’t emit UV radiation, which is not only harmful to the environment but can also be toxic to human beings. Therefore, LED lighting technology is the top environmental friendly lighting technologies, as LED lighting fixtures cause minimal to no harm to the environment when they are disposed of.

Another thing that makes LED light fixtures environmental friendly is the fact that they come with designs that are easy to recycle. Therefore, instead of throwing them away, you can recycle LED light fixtures and reduce the damage caused to the environment.

8. Controllability

Another amazing benefit of LED lights is that they are controllable, at an affordable price. While it would take several hundred dollars and a lot of design work to make conventional light fixtures controllable, LED lights can be easily controlled. For example, LED light fixtures can be connected to lighting control system, which can allow you to control the level of brightness they offer, the color of the light, when they come on or off, etc.

9. Very cost-effective in the long-term

Perhaps the top benefit of LED lights is that they are very cost-effective in the long term. To start with, LEDs are very energy efficient, using up to 70% less energy compared to other conventional light fixtures. As a result, when you are using LED lights, you can expect your power bills to be significantly lower.

LED lights also have a long lifespan, which means that they rarely get changed. Therefore, when you switch to LEDs, you can expect to spend very little money on the replacement costs of the lighting fixtures. In addition, LED light fixtures to have fewer replacement costs, LED lights to have minimal replacement costs, as they are very durable and resistant to breakage and impact.

Therefore, in the long run, you will end up spending significantly less on LED light fixtures that you would have if you were using conventional light fixtures. This makes them ideal for large premises, for example, factories, warehouses, workshops, learning institutions, hospitals, and others as they help to reduce the operational costs of these facilities.

Disadvantages of LED Lighting

LEDs might have several benefits, but that does not mean that they do not come with their own drawbacks. Below is a look at some of the disadvantages of switching to LED light fixtures

1. High initial costs

LED lighting technology is still relatively new to the market. Therefore, the technology, being premium, is still expensive. The fact that the technology is relatively new means that manufacturers have not had enough time to find cheaper solutions to LED lighting technology. As a result, LED light fixtures to have high initial costs, something that can be discouraging if you are buying several units.

You should, however, note that the high initial cost of LED light fixtures is offset by their huge energy saving benefits and minimal maintenance and replacement costs.

2. Blue light pollution

One of the largest drawbacks of LEDs has to do with cool white LEDs, high color temperature LED light fixtures that emit a high level of blue light. The level of blue light emitted by these cool white LEDs is significantly higher than that emitted by most other outdoor LED sources. As a result, there is concern among various stakeholders, for example, the International Dark S

3. Unsuitable for use during winter season

The fact that LED lights do not produce too much heat might be an advantage, but it can also have its drawback. During the cold season, LED lights cannot offer any form of warmth. Therefore, they are not ideal for use in residential homes or other premises where people are spending a lot of time unless there is a separate source of heat.

What is Incandescent lights?

Incandescent lights are electric lights that use a wire filament. The filament is heated to a high temperature by passing an electric current through it, until a point where it glows with visible light. This process of producing light is referred to as incandescence, hence the name of the light bulbs.

Incandescent light bulbs are the oldest types of lighting fixture, and they have been around for several decades now. However, despite the onset of new lighting technologies, they have managed to stick around. Below is a look at some of the reasons why:

Advantages of incandescent lights
1. Low initial cost

One of the reasons why incandescent light fixtures are popular is because they are cheap. The light bulbs are very cheap to manufacture due to their simple design. Incandescence lighting technology is also not complicated. On top of that, it has been around for a long time, and as such, incandescent lighting fixtures manufacturers have had a long time to come up with cheap designs.

2. They generate relatively high light output

The amount of light produced by incandescent light bulbs is based on the amount of heat produced by the filament. The higher the heat, the more the light produced. Therefore, with a good quality filament that can be able to withstand extremely high heat temperatures, it is possible to produce a very bright beam of light.

Lumen output of LED vs incandescent
3. They can be dimmed using rheostats

Traditional lighting fixtures are harder to control due to their designs and outdated technology. However, incandescent light bulbs can be able to be controlled (brightness) with the use of a rheostat.

4. Ideal for use during cold weather

Since incandescent light bulbs work through heating, they produce high amounts of heat. During the cold season, the heat produced can be an excellent source of warmth, especially if you do not have a heater in your home/office.

Disadvantages of incandescent lights

Unfortunately, incandescent light bulbs come with several disadvantages, probably more than any other type of lighting fixtures. Below is a look at some of them:

1. Energy inefficiency

The major drawback of incandescent light fixtures is that they are energy inefficient. A vast amount of power drawn by the light bulbs is converted into heat energy. The bulbs also draw a huge amount of power in order to provide enough current to heat the filament. As a result, using incandescent bulbs usually results in high power bills, especially in situations where you are using several units in your premises.

2. A very short lifespan

When the filament of the incandescent light bulb is being heated, the high amount of heat produced provides an ideal environment for oxidation, which can lead to the evaporation of the filament. And while they are protected from evaporation through the use of inert gas, the more the filament is heated, the more vulnerable it becomes. Therefore, incandescent light bulbs have a very short lifetime, and most will only offer a maximum of 1,000 hours, compared to LED lights that can last for up to 50,000 hours.

3.Usually requires cooling the room

Heat is another problem with incandescent lights. Due to the high amount of heat they produce, they are not ideal for rooms that require to be kept at low temperatures. Even when used in normal premises, the rooms usually require to be cooled down, especially during the hot seasons. This leads to higher electricity bills.

Verdict

By comparing LED lights and incandescent lights, it is pretty clear that LEDs have the upper hand. They have several advantages and while they come with drawbacks, they are very minimal. Incandescent lights, on the other hand, come with several disadvantages and only a few advantages. Therefore, if you are still using incandescent light bulbs for whatever reason, it is the high time you switch to the new and improved LED lighting technology.

Lighting standards LED Light Manufacturers Export to Europe and the United States Market

Speaking of lighting standards, Chinese manufacturers said that Europe and the United States high-demand technical and safety standards are invisible technical barriers to trade. The industry believes that the domestic LED lighting industry to break these technical barriers to the overseas market, first of all, we need to understand the European and American lighting standards on LED lighting products safety, electromagnetic compatibility, performance, and other requirements.

Chapter 1: Major European and American Standards and Certification Marks
ANSI

American National Standards Institute, a voluntary organization of companies, governments, and other members that seldom sets its own standards. ANSI standards are voluntary, but are cited by law and set by government agencies Is generally a mandatory standard.

UL

Short for Underwriter Laboratory Inc. UL Safety Laboratory is the most authoritative in the United States and the largest private organization in the world engaged in safety testing and certification.

FCC

The Federal Communications Commission, an Independent Agency of the United States government, reports directly to Congress. The FCC coordinates domestic and international communications by controlling radio, television, telecommunications, satellites, and cables.

ETL

ETL is short for electrical testing laboratories, which was founded in 1896 by American Inventor Edison. ETL has a high reputation in the United States and worldwide. The “US” at the bottom right applies to the United States, the “C” at the bottom left applies to Canada, and the “US” and “C” apply to both countries.

Energystar

A U.S. government led energy saving program for Consumer Electronics, was launched by the United States Environmental Protection Agency in 1992 The goal is to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

IEC

International Electrotechnical Commission is the world’s first international electrotechnical standardization agency, responsible for electrical engineering and electronic engineering in the field of international standard work, nearly 100,000 experts from all over the world are involved in the formulation and revision of IEC standards.

ENEC

(Europeannormselectric certification) is the common European symbol for specific products (such as lighting equipment, components, and office and data equipment) that meet European standards, and the ENEC symbol is the common European symbol for European Security Certification Since 2000, the “ENEC” logo, which was originally allowed only for European manufacturers, has been open to all manufacturers worldwide.

GB

The abbreviation of the “National Standard” is composed of the code number of the National Standard, the serial number of the National Standard and the year number of the National Standard (using the last two digits of the Year of Publication) , and is compiled by the Department of Standardization Administration under the State Council The standards shall be approved and issued by the competent National Standardization Authority and shall be unified throughout the country.

CCC

China Compulsory Certification. On December 3,2001, China began to implement a compulsory product certification system. The original “CCIB” certification and “Great Wall CCEE” certification were unified as “China compulsory certification” , which is abbreviated as “CCC ” in English Referred to as “3C” certification, its product catalog contains 19 categories and 132 kinds of products. The products in the catalog must be certified by a certification body designated by the state. After obtaining the relevant certificates and applying certification marks, can Be ex-factory, import, sale and use in the place of business services.

Chapter 2: Lighting Standards for export of LED lights to EU market
Exporters to EU countries are required to pass both the safety certification test (LVD) and the Electromagnetic compatibility certification (EMC). The main certification labels are CE and ENEC. The main certification reference standards are IEC EN: 60598-1(general requirements and tests for Luminaires) , IEC / EN: 60598-2-3(safety requirements for road and street lighting) , IEC / En 62031(general safety requirements for LED modules) IEC / EN: 61000-3-2(single-phase input current ≤16A equipment harmonic current emission limit) , IEC / EN: 61000-3-3(limits for voltage fluctuation and flicker in low-voltage power supply systems) , IEC / EN 61547(electromagnetic compatibility immunity requirements for general lighting equipment) , IEC / EN 55015(limits and methods of measurement of radio disturbance characteristics for electrical lighting or type of equipment) , CE Certification and ENEC certification reference standard basically the same, but in the authentication aspect has the very big difference, the main performance is as follows:

1. ENEC must be tested and certified by the certification bodies of ENEC member states. Ce is self-declarative certification and does not need to be tested and certified by a third party if the enterprise considers that its product has met the CE CERTIFICATION STANDARD You can paste your own mark;

2. ENEC certification, its manufacturer’s product management must comply with ISO9002, or it’s equivalent standards, Ce certification does not need ISO related standards;

3. ENEC certification, in accordance with the reconciliation inspection procedures, the initial and minimum annual production will be issued by the licensing agency inspection, CE certification products do not need the relevant certification agency inspection;

4. ENEC certification, the products need to be re-tested every other year, and re-test costs, CE certification products in the product has not changed, sustainable and effective;

5. ENEC adopts the “Standard European Committee for Standardization” Standard and CE adopts the “International Electrotechnical Commission” Standard, but the contents of the two standards are identical;

6. ENEC certification, if the power supply is purchased, the power supply must be approved by ENEC certification, and then the power supply as lamps with certification test, if the power supply is produced by the applicant himself, can not require ENEC certification, but need to do random testing with lamps, reference standards are EN61347-1(general and safety requirements for lamp controls) , EN61347-2-13(special requirements for AC or DC electronic device controls for LED modules) , CE certified power supply with CE certification, only test the power supply with the EMC test of lamps, no longer the power supply random safety test.

Chapter 3: Lighting Standards for export of LED lights to North American market

The main certifications for export to the North American market include UL, ETL, FCC, and ENERGY STAR. LED road lighting products UL certification refers to UL8750 or UL60950, UL1598 two standards, does not test the EMC characteristics of lamps, ETL certification test reference It is exactly the same as the UL standard. FCC certification refers to FCCPart15B, ClassAdigitaldevice test limit standard, does not test the safety characteristics of lamps; ENERGY STAR is mainly for the photoelectric performance requirements of LED lamps for residential areas and commercial lighting, LED road lighting is not listed here; Introduce the more common UL and FCC certifications for introduction and analysis:

Mandatory certification of electronic products in the US laws and regulations always includes Title1 to Title50, of which Title47 is a telex video product, a total of Part0 to Part499 part, of which Part0 to Part199 is FCC. The FCC certification method is divided into Verification, declaration of conformity and Certification. When using Verification, there is no requirement for the test laboratory, and no test is required (as long as the product can meet the corresponding requirements). Technical requirements) and do not need to provide information to the FCC; when using Declaration of Conformity, the test laboratory needs to obtain NVLAP, A2LA qualification or FCC-certified laboratory, and requires a multilateral mutual recognition agreement, but does not need to provide information to the FCC; At the time, the test laboratory needs to be registered on the FCC website, officially recognized by the FCC, issued by the TCB agency designated by the FCC or FCC, and required to provide information to the FCC, and at the same time obtain an FCCID. Which certification method is adopted depends on the type of product. The FCC test standard for LED luminaire products is FCCPart15B, and the certification type is: Verification.

The FCC is a compulsory certification of the radio harassment (EMI) characteristic limits for telex products as prescribed by US federal law. The FCC certification test for LED luminaires is significantly different from the EMC certification test for CE CEs. The main performances are as follows:

1. FCC certification of LED lamps only tests EMI (radio disturbance), does not include EMS (radio anti-interference) test items; EMC test in CE requires both certification tests;

2. The FCC certification of LED lamps is divided into ClassA (LED lamps used in industrial and commercial environments) and ClassB (LED lamps used in residential environments). The test limits of the two types are completely different. The radios in CE certification There is only one harassment test limit standard, and the limit size is equivalent to Class B in the FCC;

3. The FCC certified conducted disturbance scanning test frequency of LED lamps starts from 0.15MHz to 30MHz, and the conducted disturbance scanning test frequency in CE certification starts from 9KHz to 30MH;

4, FCC certification of LED lamps Space radiation disturbance scanning test frequency from 30MHz to 1GHz end, the space radiation disturbance scanning test frequency in CE certification starts from 30KHz to 300MH end;

5, FCC certification requirements are more demanding, its EMI certification test limit standard usually requires more than 6dB margin, CE certification EMI test margin is 3dB or more (including the margin after reading point);

UL certification is a non-mandatory certification in the United States, mainly for the testing and certification of product safety performance, and its certification scope does not include the EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) characteristics of the product. The following is a brief introduction to LED road lighting products related to UL8750, UL1310 and UL60950. The UL8750 is suitable for the minimum safety requirements of LED lighting source components that will be installed in non-hazardous locations with a rated 600V branch or lower. It is also suitable for the minimum safety of LED light sources connected to isolated (no active connection) power sources such as batteries and fuel cells. Requirements; UL1310 is suitable for use with input voltages of 120 or 240Vac via software or directly plugged in a 15 or 20A AC branch circuit or potentially less than 150V grounded, using an insulated transformer and can be incorporated into a rectifier and other components to provide DC or AC energy. CLASS2 power supply equipment that is expected to be used to provide energy for low-voltage power operation; UL60950 is applicable to safety standards for information technology (IT) equipment, including mobile phones, computers and peripherals such as projectors, printers, etc. Includes a power supply that outputs a safety loop with an LPS (Limited Power Supply).

In the UL certification of LED lighting products, the driver certification test can be UL1310 or UL60950. The main differences between the two standards are as follows:

1. UL1310 is the safety standard for CLASSII (power supply with limited voltage and capacity). The UL1310 certified power supply is the CLASSII power supply. When the CLASSII power supply is used for cUL (Canada market) LED lighting certification, the relevant safety test can be exempted. UL60950 is a safety standard for information technology (IT) equipment, and its applicable certification scope is greater than UL1310. However, when using UL60950 certified power supply for cUL (Canadian Market Certification) LED lighting certification, the relevant safety test cannot be exempted. ;

2, UL1310 standard specifies the output voltage under any load conditions, the maximum output voltage of the power supply (including no load), the exposed contact voltage peak value is 42.4V, when the device does not contain the maximum output volt-amperes that can automatically be in the output circuit power-off device 100 volts; UL60950 defines the voltage between any two accessible circuit components under normal output voltage conditions, or the voltage between any accessible circuit component and the protective earth terminal of Class I equipment, not exceeding 42.4V AC peak, or 60V DC value;

3. UL1310 certification is only applicable to CLASSII power supply equipment in the grid with 120 or 240Vac rated voltage. UL60950 is applicable to information technology products with rated input voltage not exceeding 600Vac. For the driving power of LED lighting products with UL certification of 277V voltage system, only Refer to the UL60950 standard certification test.

9 Things You Should Consider When Buying LED Tubes (2019)

Question:

Are you sick and tired of paying insanely-high power bills?

If so, you should consider the fact that your lighting may be the cause of this.

Generally, poor and inefficient lighting systems can be very costly; especially in terms of power usage, maintenance and repair costs.

So, despite having low initial costs, lights like fluorescents, halogens, incandescent bulbs, and HIDs can cost you a lot in the long run.

Let’s face it!

High long-term costs aren’t economical, are they?

So, what can you do to minimize your power usage without necessarily affecting how you light up your commercial space?

Well…

The solution is to replace your fluorescent light fixtures tube with LED tubes.

Now:

What are LED tubes?

LED tubes are the best alternatives to fluorescents.

They are not only of superior quality but also highly efficient and durable. That’s why it would be correct to say that they offer great value for money.

So, what should you look for in an LED tube?

Well, read on to find out.

Chapter 1: 9 Things to Consider When Shopping for LED Tubes

Obviously, if you are going to invest in LED tubes, you have to make sure that you invest in the best ones.

But:

How can you tell whether or not an LED tube will offer you great value for your money?

All it takes is a little bit consideration and comparison to achieve this.

Here are nine things you can use to find awesome LED tubes for your commercial space:

1. Energy Efficiency of LED Tubes

It is a fact that:

Minimizing your lighting expenses starts with using energy-efficient light fixtures.

And that’s why switching from standard fluorescent tubes to LEDs is often the best way to cut down your energy usage.

But:

As you do so, always go for the most efficient tubes.

On average, the best tubes have energy efficiencies ranging from 100 to 150lm/W.

In fact, efficient LED lighting tubes can cut your energy consumption by almost 80%.

Impressive, right?

2. Durability of LED Tubes

Clearly, a tubes lifespan is always an important factor to consider.

The longer the lifespan, the greater the value for money, right?

For example:

If you make an LED tube lights vs fluorescent comparison in terms of durability, you will be shocked.

Why?

Well, unlike fluorescents, LED tubes can last up to 70,000 hours or roughly over 19 years (if used for 10 hours a day).

Having such a fixture can only mean two things:

  1. Little or no replacement costs for long periods of time.
  2. Little maintenance needs.

Both of which offer you a cost-effective and convenient solution to commercial lighting.

And that’s not the best part yet!

Some manufacturers like ShineLong offer up to 7 years in warranty for some of their LED tubes.

Therefore, always go for the most durable fixtures on the market. A lengthy warranty period is just a bonus.

3. Luminous Flux of LED Tubes

Ask yourself:

Is the LED tube going to offer you sufficient illumination?

A fixture’s luminous flux is the amount of brightness it offers.

Therefore, the higher the luminous flux, the brighter the lighting.

Look:

Having a bright light benefits you in a number of ways including:

  • Reducing the need for more light fixtures.
  • Making it easy to work in or use the space being lit.

Therefore, depending on the size of the space, you need to ensure that you get a light that’s comfortably bright.

Remember, too much or too little light can be inconvenient in many ways.

4. Beam Angle of LED Tubes

One of the biggest benefits of using LED tubes is that they come with different beam angles.

What does this mean exactly?

Beam angles make it easy for you to illuminate the whole or a specific part of a room.

Basically, a wider beam angle means that the luminary can illuminate the entire space.

But:

If you are looking for a luminary to illuminate a specific part of your space, then you should opt for LED tubes with smaller beam angles.

This not only helps you to optimize your lighting for your space but also to reduce the extra cost of illuminating unused spaces.

5. Operating Temperatures of LED Tubes

Question:

Can the luminary survive harsh weather conditions?

This mainly applies to people who want to use LED Tubes in extremely hot or cold areas.

A good luminary should be able to work properly and efficiently even when subjected to high or low temperatures.

Basically:

This means that you won’t have to worry about your LED tubes failing due to extreme temperatures.

Good LED tubes often operate perfectly in temperatures ranging from –20 to 50 degrees Celsius.

So, is that all? Not quite…

6. Safety and Certifications of LED Tubes

In everything we do, safety is always of prime importance.

That’s why:

When shopping for LED tubes, you also need to ask yourself; Is the tube safe for me?

Now:

The best way to tell whether or not a luminary is safe to use is to look out for certifications.

Authorities like CE, RoHS, ERP, SAA, and TUV, use certifications to inform consumers about the safety standards of particular luminaries.

Therefore, certifications are the best way to tell whether or not the luminary is eco-friendly and has been proven to be safe.

7. Installation and Maintenance of LED Tubes

Do you really want to incur extra installation costs by hiring someone to install your new LED tubes?

Of course not!

That’s why the ease of installation and maintenance become yet another important factor to consider.

Therefore, you need to ensure that the LED tubes you buy are easy to install.

Moreover, they should be easy to handle and clean; hence making your work of maintaining the luminaries more convenient.

8. Convenience of LED Tubes

To some, it may not be so important, but it wouldn’t hurt to invest in a luminary that offers you more convenience.

Look:

When it comes to LED tubes, convenience can be defined in so many ways including:

  • Being flicker-free.
  • Instant switching.
  •
  • Being free of shadows and blind spots.
  • And supporting numerous dimming techniques including Dali, TRIAC, 0~10V, and so on.

The qualities mentioned above come as a guarantee of convenience and high-quality lighting.

So, make sure you look for LED tubes that offer you most – if not all – of the qualities above.

9. Price of LED Tubes

How much should you pay for an LED tube?

On average, LED tubes retail prices range from $10 to $30 per piece (in USD).

Generally, these luminaries come with different price tags.

Therefore, it’s up to you to find a luminary that’s affordable and at the same time fulfills all your lighting needs.

Obviously, LED tubes cost way more than fluorescent tubes.

But:

If you look at it in the long-run, you’ll realize that LED tubes are more cost-effective than fluorescents by a very large margin.

There you have it – nine things to consider when shopping for LED tubes.

With the tips above, it will be easy for you to find an LED tube that not only meets all your lighting needs but also the best solution to the problems that come with using fluorescents.

So:

In summary, how do you benefit from using LED tubes?

Well, here’s how…

Chapter 3: 5 Advantages of Switching to LED Tubes
  1. Impressive Energy Saving:Yes, LED tubes can reduce power usage by up to 80%.
  2. Unbeatable Durability: With up to 20 years of high-quality lighting, using an LED tube saves you a lot in terms of costs.
  3. Relatively Small Capital Needed for an Upgrade: The upgrade costs are lower for buyers who were previously using fluorescent fixtures. That’s because you can use LED tubes in a fluorescent light holder. Basically, this makes the upgrade or installation as easy as replacing a bulb/tube.
  4. Easy to Use and Maintain: This means that you’ll spend less time tending to your lighting and more time growing your business.
  5. Feature-packed: LED tubes come with so many features; all tailored to offer you the best lighting experience.

Lastly:

Chapter 4: Where Can You Find the Best LED Tubes?

Obviously, there are so many LED tube manufacturers out there.

And naturally, you may feel spoilt for choice.

But:

When it comes to finding the best and most affordable fixtures, only ShineLong Technologies Corp. has what you need.

Why?

Well, Shinelong has an impressive reputation when it comes to manufacturing and distributing LED luminaries.

2. High Illumination: With other lights, you may have to fit in a lot of them into your space in order to get sufficient illumination. However, with an LED panel light, illumination becomes the least of your worries. Basically, LED light panels can yield up to 130 lumens per watt. That means that a few of them can provide better and more than enough illumination.

3. No Heating or Radiation: If you have a problem with light fixtures that heat up or emit radiation, then you should consider buying an LED panel light. Why? These panels are designed to have complete heat dissipation. Therefore, your fixtures will not only lower your cooling costs but also last longer than ordinary fluorescents or incandescent lights.

Chapter 3: Which are the Most Important Components in an LED Panel Light for Sale?

Obviously, LED panel lights are made up of so many components…

Each serving an important role.

Now:

When checking to see whether an LED panel light fixture is as good as advertised, you should look at a few things including:

1. The Frame of LED Panel Lights for sale

It should be aluminum. This frame is important because it helps with the aesthetics. Basically, it has a beautiful, smooth appearance that makes the light fixture worthy of any type of décor. Moreover, an aluminum frame helps in complete heat dissipation.

2. The Light Source of LED Panel Lights for sale

LED panel lights come with different light sources; 2835, 3014, and 5050. Out of the three, 2835 is the best. That’s because it offers you high-point versatility making it easier to design guide dots.

3. The Light Guide Plate of LED Panel Lights for sale

Light guide plates often help to provide evenly distributed illumination. That way the fixture won’t have any dark spots or shadows.

4. The Diffuser of LED Panel Light for Sale

The best LED light diffusers – so far – are Acrylic 2.0 sheet or a PC material. Funny enough, these two often seem to make up for the other’s shortcomings. For example, Acrylic is cheaper because it has a weak anti-aging performance. However, it has a 92% light transmittance rate.

On the other hand, PCs have a better anti-aging performance, but their light transmittance is 88% and are a bit expensive. Depending on your needs, you’ll know which diffuser is the best for you.

5. The Reflective Paper of LED Panel Light for Sale

The main purpose of the reflective paper is to redirect the residual light on the back of the light guide. That way the fixture can direct more light towards a specific direction or angle. And that helps to improve the fixture’s efficiency.

6. The Rear Cover of LED Panel Light for Sale

Aside from contributing to heat dissipation, the rear cover also protects the internal parts of the LED panel fixture. Therefore, you should make sure it’s made from the best materials e.g. 1060 aluminum.

These are just a few of the most important components of an LED light panel for sale. Finding a fixture that has the best of these components means finding the best panels on the market.

Moving on:

You may also be asking…

Chapter 4: How Can I Fit LED Panels into My Décor?

Well, it’s easy.

Installation of LED panel lights can be done by anyone – given that they have the right tools and an installation manual.

Moreover, when it comes to mounting options, you’ll be amazed at how much you can do with these lights.

For example:

LED panel lights can be mounted on the surface, walls, and ceilings of places.

And if your décor is predominantly white, you’ll have no trouble fitting LED panel lights into it.

And that’s not the best part, yet.

You can use these fixtures to complement works of art too.

Chapter 5: How Much Do these Fixtures Cost?

After all the explanations above, there’s still one question that should be bugging you.

How much will an LED panel light for sale cost you?

Knowing the average led panel light price can be a huge contributor to smart decision making.

Now:

Obviously, you want to find the best panel lighting fixtures but at the lowest price possible.

And that’s why comparing a few panel LED lights prices is always a good idea.

So, on average, you should expect to spend between $30 (210 Yuan) and $45 (300 Yuan) per unit. The pricing difference depends on the quality of materials you prefer.

Clearly, the best materials will lean towards the more expensive side.

However, if you take a minute to consider the perks of owning LED panel lights, you’ll realize that they offer you great value for your money in the long run.

Improve Your Indoor Garage by Investing in High-Quality lighting

What features make up high-quality indoor garage lighting?

Well:

Some will say the quality of lighting; others will go for durability; while others will say brightness.

In any case, everyone is right.

There are so many things that prove that a lighting fixture is of superior quality.

And that’s why:

When searching for the best fixtures for your indoor garage lighting, you have to ensure you get the best of the best fixtures.

Obviously, you are here because you have questions about garage lighting.

So, you may be wondering…

  • What’s all the fuss about using the right kind of light fixtures for your indoor garage?
  • Or better yet, why is it so important?
  • Moreover, does garage air quality affect lighting?
  • Which is the best fixture for indoor garage lighting?
  • How can you find an awesome garage luminary?
  • Lastly, how much does indoor garage lighting cost?

Whichever the question, this post details everything you need to know plus more.

But first:

Chapter 1: What is Indoor Garage Lighting?

Basically, indoor garage lighting could be one of two things; it could be the process of illuminating your indoor garage or the illumination fixture or system in use.

Now:

Any expert will tell you that…

Proper indoor garage lighting is important.

Why?

Well, the garage is one of the few rooms in a house that serve multiple purposes.

How?

It’s quite simple. Aside from being a place where you park your car, a garage can also be used for a number of functions.

Here are some of them.
Chapter 2: Common Uses of an Indoor Garage

For Storage: A garage is the best place to keep items that are rarely in use but still essential. It could be old pieces of furniture, books/magazines/posters/arts, tools, equipment, machinery, spare parts, paint cans, supplies, and so on.

As a Workshop: Want to build something? The best place to do so is in the garage. Whether it’s woodwork, welding, or even for artistic purposes, a garage offers you the ideal environment for hands-on work at home.

For Repairs and Side-Projects: Where else can you can personally repair or maintain your car, if not in the garage? Moreover, if you have a dream project of reviving your vintage Jaguar E-type sports car or Indian Chief motorbike, your indoor garage not only offers you the privacy you need but also the convenience of working on it whenever you are free.

As an extra room: The garage – if well insulated – can also function as a bedroom whenever you’ve got too many guests sleeping over.

For Laundry: Some people also keep and use laundry machines and dryers in the garage.

And of course, for parking.

Cool, right?

Generally, an indoor garage comes with a myriad of uses including the ones mentioned above. That’s why it’s often a vital part of any house.

But:

If you take a minute to think about it…

Most garages are constructed with little windows. This means that even during the day, the room can be dark.

Therefore, proper indoor garage lighting is always essential especially for those being frequently used.

That being said…

Chapter 3: How Does Garage Use Affect the Room’s Air Quality and Lighting?

Do you know that:

Each time you use your garage – for whatever reasons – there’s a small side effect? But not to you, obviously.

Now, if you are wondering; how? Here are a few scenarios that can play out.

Scenario 1: Using your garage for storage or as a workshop.

We all know that it’s almost impossible to clean a busy garage on a daily basis. And it gets even worse if the garage is cluttered. Basically, clutter interrupts air flow.

Therefore, this may lead to the accumulation of dust and moisture; both of which are not only unhealthy but also bad for your indoor garage lighting fixtures and electronics.

Gradually, this can cause damages or a reduction in your light fixtures’ lifespan.

Scenario 2: Using your garage for parking and car repairs.

When you drive your car in or out of your garage, little amounts of exhaust fumes may get trapped.

With time – little by little – the fumes start forming soot on your garage walls, ceilings, and lighting fixtures.

In turn, the brightness of your fixtures may be affected.

Scenario 3: Using laundry machines and dryers in your garage.

This often leads to a lot of moisture formation. Generally, the whole process raises the room’s humidity. Too much water or vapor can be harmful to electronic devices especially lighting fixtures.

That’s why:

If you’ve been using old indoor garage lighting systems, you are bound to experience frequent lighting issues and failures.

Now:

This begs the question…

Chapter 4: Which is the Best Type of Indoor Garage Lighting?

It’s a fact:

There are so many indoor garage lighting options in the market today.

Therefore, it’s important to know about the perks of each available option in order to find the best one for you.

Generally, LED light fixtures are often the best. And that’s mainly because of their perks and impressive features.

That’s why when shopping for the ultimate garage lighting fixture, you need to ensure that it’s an LED luminary.

And:

It should be an LED garage lighting that lives up to the following conditions:

1. Indoor Garage Lighting Should be Bright Enough

This is very important – especially when you are using your garage for things like reading, repairs, or any other workshop-related tasks.

It not only improves your work experience but also keeps you safe from accidental injuries.

Luminaries like the ShineLong Parkade LED lights offer a brightness of up to 7000 lumens. Great, right?

2. Remember, Efficiency is Key of Indoor Garage Lighting

3. Indoor Garage Lighting Should be Damage-Proof

What does this mean?

Well:

The fixture should be dustproof, waterproof, vapor-proof, and strong enough to withstand impact.

And that’s exactly what you get from LED luminaries like the ShineLong LED Parkade.

4. Durability is Also Important of Indoor Garage Lighitng

Obviously, you are looking for a light fixture that will serve you for years to come.

A fixture, that doesn’t break down easily and is simple to maintain.

Well:

Those are things you won’t get from fluorescents, incandescent lights, halogens, and other old-school lighting systems.

But…

An LED fixture like the ShineLong parkade guarantees you longevity. And if you are wondering; how long exactly?

How do 75,000 hours or +10 years sound?

Impressive, right?

5. Convenience of Indoor Garage Lighitng

Basically:

If you are going to buy an indoor garage lighting fixture, invest in the one that’s most convenient for you.

LED luminaries are always very convenient.

In what way?

Well, aside from having dimming capabilities, LED luminaries like the Parkade offer conveniences like:

  • Switching on/off instantly,
  • They don’t emit heat,
  • Are easy to maintain,
  • Eco-friendly,
  • And are shadow-free just to mention a few.

From this, it’s evident that LED indoor garage lighting fixtures are the best lights for garage ceiling and wall mounting.

And depending on your garage lighting layout, working in or using this room becomes easy for you and anyone in your home.

This brings us to the last question about indoor garage lighting…

Chapter 5: Are there any Cheap Garage Lighting Ideas for Newbies?

Well, it depends on your design preferences, space size, and the garage’s primary use.

Clearly, by now you know all about an indoor garage’s air quality. Moreover, we’ve discussed the best light to use in such an environment – an LED light especially ShineLong’s Parkade Tri-Proof Luminary.

Now that you know which fixture to buy and why, the next step would be to look at your design and lighting options.

Here are a few factors that can help you to find the best LED light for your garage:

The Size of the Space

A large garage has more illumination needs than a smaller one.

Now:

To get enough light, you can opt for –

  • Numerous small, distributed luminaries
  • Or a few high-performance lighting fixtures.

With brightness levels of up to 7000 lumens, ShineLong Parkade LED lights offer very bright and sufficient lighting. In most cases, one is often enough, but you can get as much as you need to properly light up your space.

Your Mounting Preferences

Parkades can be mounted in so many ways.

For example:

  • You can opt to fix this lighting fixture on your ceiling.
  • Also, this luminary can be suspended.
  • And lastly, it can be wall-mounted.

Generally, mounting solely depends on your design plan.

But as you decide on a mounting option, ensure you think about how it will affect light distribution.

Why?

Evidently, if you use your garage to repair your car or for a vintage car side-project, wall-mounted LED luminaries would be great for you to get light to the lower sides of the car.

Also, suspended mounting is often ideal for spaces with very high ceilings. This ensures you get light to the most important parts of the room.

Your Lighting Budget

It never hurts to look for cost-effective options.

Therefore, indoor garage lighting ideas don’t have to be costly.

To save money on your lighting, you can opt for fixtures that are:

  • Efficient,
  • Bright,
  • Durable,
  • And damage-proof

The ShineLong Parkade Tri-Proof LED light offers you all these and more.

Evidently, indoor garage lighting is an important issue. Doing it right ensures that you enjoy high-quality lighting at a very low lighting budget and for a long time.

With the information above, you are well-equipped to optimize your home’s indoor garage lighting.

Here are seven questions and answers that best explain why LED poultry lighting is the best for you.

Chapter 1: What are Poultry Lights?

Poultry lights are fixtures specifically designed for poultry farming.

The fact that they are special poultry lights means that manufacturers tailor these lights to offer poultry farmers with everything they need from a good lighting fixture.

Moreover, poultry lights come in many forms and types.

For example:

There are LED, incandescent, fluorescents, and so many other light fixtures on the market today.

Therefore, before investing in a lighting fixture, you need to make sure that it meets all your needs in the best possible way.

Chapter 2: Which Types of Poultry Lighting Exist?

In truth, there are numerous types of lighting fixtures available today. Each with its own set of perks and downsides.

Generally, poultry farmers use five main types of lighting including:

Incandescent lights: These are the most affordable poultry lighting fixtures available. They are also the most inefficient of all types of lighting. To get the most of incandescent lights, reflectors become a necessity. Moreover, they are the least durable of all types of lighting fixtures; they last for 750 to 1000 hours.

Fluorescents: They are better than incandescent lights. For instance, these luminaries are almost 4 times more efficient and can last 10 times longer. This means that fluorescents offer up to 10,000 hours of lighting. Unfortunately, these fixtures are inconvenient in that they flicker for a while before switching on.

Mercury Vapor Lights:  With these lights, you get to enjoy up to 24,000 hours of lighting. But it comes at a cost. Aside from being expensive to buy and maintain, these fixtures take time to light up. Moreover, they cause a lot of heating hence aren’t ideal for rooms with low-lying ceilings.

CF (Compact Fluorescent) Lights: They are a great improvement to standard fluorescents. For instance, they are 5 times more efficient and last even longer. But this still doesn’t make them the best ones for poultry farming.

LED Poultry Lighting: LED technology was a gamechanger in the lighting industry. That’s because these luminaries make up for all the shortcomings of other types of lighting. For example, in terms of durability, poultry LEDs can last up to 75,000 hours. What’s more, they are 80% more efficient; this means that with LEDs, you’ll see an 80% reduction in energy costs.

Interesting, right?

Moving on…

Chapter 3: Which is the Best Type of Poultry Lighting Fixture?

Well, from the brief overview above, it’s clear that LEDs are the best.

That is in many more ways than the ones mentioned above.

In summary, LEDs last longer, are more efficient, easy to install and come with many features that allow users to regulate illuminations.

Sounds great, right? Well, here’s what you need to know about LED poultry lighting

Chapter 4: Why are LED Lights Ideal for Poultry Breeding?

Generally, the list of perks that come with LED poultry lighting fixtures is endless.

That’s why:

These luminaries are often highly recommended.

Here are a few unique features and perks that prove that LED lights are superior to other types of lighting:

  • Durability: When it comes to finding the best commercial poultry lighting, durability is always a major factor to consider. Obviously, you want a light that will last longer. With LEDs, you are guaranteed at least 75,000 hours of high-quality lighting. Basically, that’s more than 15 years. Impressive, right? Well, there’s more.
  • Efficiency: Aside from durability, LED poultry lights are also well-known for their efficiency. On average, these luminaries have an energy efficiency of around 110lm/W. This means that they use up less energy but provide more illumination. Eventually, this translates to more profits.
  • Full Spectrum Light: Unlike human beings, chickens respond to a wide array of light colors. Some of these invoke specific behaviors and that’s why it’s important to find the right kind of light. LEDs offer full spectrum lights, which means they can provide all the colors you need to properly breed poultry.
  • Little or No Infrared Radiation or Heat: Unlike other forms of poultry lighting, LEDs do not emit infrared radiation. This means that they do not overheat even when used for long periods of time.
  • Easily Adjustable Lighting: Aside from offering dimming capabilities, LEDs can also be calibrated to emit a specific light spectrum or color.
  • More Convenience: LEDs are known to be super-convenient. How? Well, these luminaries not only switch on/off instantly but also don’t make noise, are flicker-free, and are very easy to handle and install.
  • Robust Exterior: Part of the reasons why LEDs last longer is the material used to make the fixture. Most LED poultry lighting consists of high-quality and corrosion resistant materials. For example, the ShineLong Rancher LED luminarycomes with an IP69K – IK10 protection rating. This means that it is waterproof, dustproof, vapor-proof, and impact resistant. Moreover, it is highly resistant to corrosion and aging.
Chapter 5: How Does Lighting Affect Poultry?

Most farmers often ask questions like:

  • What is the importance of light in broiler farming?
  • What’s the effect of light on broiler growth?
  • Do broilers need light at night?

Well…

Lighting effects on broilers.

Lighting is very important in broiler farming because it helps in feeding, behavior, and growth. Basically, if the chicken coop isn’t well lit three things can happen to your broilers:

  1. Your poultry may start exhibiting fear and aggression. This aggressive behavior may lead to fights that not only drain their energy but also can be fatal.
  2. It may affect how they feed. Which may lead to a deterioration of their health.
  3. Lastly, poor lighting can affect how your broilers feed. Feeding problems can also affect your poultry’s growth.

Well:

With this in mind, it’s easy to see why good lighting is vital for your broilers’ welfare.

Lighting effects on layers.

So, you may also be wondering; how does lighting affect egg production?

Fact:

An increase in daylight leads to an increase in egg production.

Why?

It’s mainly because a well light environment encourages the release of FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) that’s responsible for the growth of eggs.

Thereafter, there will be an increase in LH (Luteinizing Hormone) that prompts the release of mature eggs from the ovary.

That’s why experts recommend at least 16 hours of light for laying poultry to maximize egg production.

This means that you can use LED poultry lighting to provide artificial lighting for a few extra hours in the morning or evening or even both times.

Chapter 6: What Makes LED Poultry Lighting So Special?

Unlike other types of LED luminaries, poultry luminaries are specially designed for poultry farming.

Think of it this way…

When harvesting wheat, using a combine harvester will make the whole process easier than using a simple tractor. Why? Because the combine is specifically designed for that kind of work.

Now, the same applies to poultry lighting.

LED poultry lighting manufacturers make these fixtures with a chicken coop/poultry barn/shed in mind.

Therefore, they always ensure that their LED fixtures can operate properly and for long in a poultry breeding environment.

Chapter 7: Which is the Best LED Poultry Lighting Fixture?

There are dozens of LED light fixtures of the market today.

But:

Out of the many, only one stands out as the best.

And that’s the  ShineLong Rancher LED luminary.

Here’s What Industry Insiders Say About Ingress Protection
What is an IP rating and why is it always indicated on LED electronic products? Well, if you’ve been buying or you plan to buy lighting electronics, then knowing a little bit about IP ratings will come in handy in one way or another. This knowledge helps you to find the best products that conform to your specific needs.
Chapter 1: What is Ingress Protection (IP)?

In the simplest terms, IP is an international standard that denotes the measure of protection that electronic enclosures offer against intrusion from external objects, dust, and water.

This standard was enacted by the International Electrotechnical Communications (IEC) to help in the classification of electrical appliances. These classifications were based on two key factors; protection against intrusion by dust/objects and water penetration.

Normally, an IP rating is denoted in the format – IPXY – with the XY consisting of two distinctive figures.

* The first number (e.g. 1 in IP1Y) shows the appliance’s protection against intrusion by foreign bodies like dust, tools, fingers (to avoid getting electrocuted), insects and so on.

* The second fig (e.g. 1 in IPX1) indicates just how much the appliance is protected from water and moisture penetration.

Therefore, a typical IP rating looks like this: IP68. And you should note that a higher value means more protection. For example, an appliance with an IP rating of IP68 is more protected from water ingress than an IP61 appliance. Pretty straightforward, right? Yes, but how protected are they? Or better yet, what differentiates an IP68 from an IP61 appliance?

Chapter 2: What Do IP Grade Standards (Numbers) Mean?

As mentioned above, IP ratings are denoted as IPXY where ‘X’ is the degree of objects and dust protection and ‘Y’ is the measure of water ingress protection. The X figures run from 0 to 6, with each number representing a level of protection and dust resistance. On the other hand, Y figures run from 0 to 8 with each digit representing a level of water penetration resistance.

Resistance levels increase as the numbers advance from 0 to the highest number in the grade as you shall see below. Here is a brief breakdown of the meanings of each number on an IP rating.

1. Dust or Object Resistance Levels (IPX*) of IP Rating

0 – Means the appliance has no protection against the penetration of dust or object.

1 – These appliances prevent the intrusion of objects above 50mm in diameter/width/height. This protection also helps to prevent people from accidentally coming into contact with the live parts of the electrical appliance; hence mitigating the risks of electrocution. But dust can still get in.

2 – They block intrusion by objects that are larger than 12.5mm in diameter, width or height. Such objects include fingers, large tools, big insects, and so on.

3 – Such appliances prevent intrusion by anything larger than 2.5mm. These items include wires and tools that are more than 2.5mm in size. But still, in terms of dust penetration, these appliances are not fully protected.

4 – An IP4Y appliance blocks intrusion by anything above 1.0mm in diameter or width. This includes tiny insects like mosquitoes, flies, and any other object or insect above 1.0mm.

5 – These appliances offer partial dust protection. And the amount of dust that penetrates their enclosures is too little to affect the normal functioning of the appliance.

6 – This is the strongest dust protection level because it is designed to completely block dust from entering the appliance. Therefore, IP6Y appliances are literally dust and intrusion-proof.

2. Water or Moisture Resistance Levels (IP*Y) of IP Rating

0 – Just like in the dust resistance table above, the 0 here means that the appliance does not have any protection against water or moisture penetration.

1 – These appliances block drip intrusion.

2 – They prevent drip intrusion even when the electrical device is tilted by 15 degrees.

3 – These appliances block penetration of jetted water, rainfall and or water shot directly perpendicular to the appliance or at an angle of less than 50 degrees.

4 – Such appliances prevent water penetration as a result of splashing from all directions.

5 – Prevent water intrusion from large waves or spray holes.

6 – Their design allows them to prevent the penetration of water when they are exposed to it for a specific amount of time or under certain water pressure levels. These appliances can still work flawlessly during the time spent exposed to water.

7 – Are designed to prevent intrusion of water into the electrical parts of the appliance even when it is submerged less than 3ft (1m) deep in water for almost 30 minutes. The appliance will continue to work perfectly as long as the water conditions (time, pressure, and temperature) remain within operational range.

8 – These devices can work normally without being influenced by sinking or submersion. This means that they can still function at peak performance even after being immersed in water for long periods of time. Basically, there’s no water intrusion.

Side Note:

9K – This is a rare water ingress protection rating (e.g. IP69K). Appliances with this rating are designed to prevent water penetration from strong, close range, high-temperature water jets.

Chapter 3: So, What Are the IP Ratings of ShineLong LED Products?

Now that know something about IP gradings and what the numbers mean, you are probably wondering; what classifications do our LED lighting products fall into? And if that’s the case, here is a quick overview of ShineLong’s LED lighting IP ratings.

* IP20 rating – Only our Expert LED lights.

* IP69K rating – Our Rancher LED lights.

As you can see, we – at ShineLong LED – are fully committed to manufacturing safe, strong, resilient and high-quality LED lighting fixtures for both industrial and domestic use. The last and most important question to ask is:

Chapter 4: How Do We Test Each Product for Quality and Water Ingress Protection?

Well, there are quite a number of methodologies we employ to test the degree of protection from water penetration; IPX1 to IPX9k. Below is a quick rundown of each process and the steps involved.

Method 1: Vertical Drop Test (Test for IPX1)

Equipment Used: Drip test apparatus

Test Conditions: A drip volume of 1.0±0.5mm/min

Duration: 10 Minutes

Procedure:

  • Place the sample on a rotating stage making one rotation per minute.
  • Also, the sample has to be in its normal working position.
  • Position the drip at a distance of at most 200mm above the test sample.
  • Run the test for 10 minutes.
Method 2: Tilted 15° Drip Test (Test for IPX2)

Equipment Used: Drip test apparatus

Test Conditions: A drip volume of 3.0±0.5 mm/min

Duration: 10 Minutes (4 faces x 2.5 minutes)

Procedure:

  • Tilt one face of the sample up by 15° vertically.
  • Place the drip nozzle at most 200mm above the tilted face.
  • Run the test for 2.5 minutes and the switch the sample face.
  • Test all four faces of the sample.
Method 3: Water Splash Test (Test for IPX3)

There are two ways to successfully carry out an IPX3 test; through a plunge pipe type watering test or a sprinkler test. Here’s how to go about both techniques.

  1. a) Plunge Pipe Type Watering Test

Equipment Used: A pendulum tube-type water splash test device

Test Conditions: Each hole on the oscillating tube device pours 0.07 L/min. Therefore, to calculate the flow, you should multiply the rate of each hole by the number of holes on the tube. Spray the water at a 60° arc on both sides of the center of the tube. Place the sample in the middle of a semi-circular tube. The tube oscillates along both sides of the vertical 60° to make 120° in total. Each oscillation is (2×120°) for about 4s

Duration: 10 minutes of continuous watering.

Procedure:

  • Come up with an appropriate radius for the oscillating tube making sure that the sample’s height coincides with the diameter of the oscillating tube.
  • Thereafter, ensure the distance between the top of the sample and the water outlet does not exceed 200mm.
  • In this test, the sample table should be stationary (does not rotate).
  1. b) Sprinkler Test

Equipment Used: Hand-held splashing water test device

Test Conditions: Introduce the baffle with a counterweight during the test. Also, ensure the water flow rate is at 10 L/min.

Duration: To determine the time, you should consider the surface area of the sample’s shell. Normally, it should be 1 minute per square meter (excluding installation area) with a minimum of 5 minutes.

Procedure:

  • Place the sample below the hand shower at a distance of between 300mm and 500mm from the nozzle.
Method 4: Water Shower Test (Test for IPX4)

Just like the IPX3 test, you can carry out an IPX4 test using the two methods mentioned above. But, there are a few changes that you’ll have to make.

a) Pendulum Tube Type Splash Test

In this test, the equipment used and the duration of the test are similar to the ones mentioned above on Test ‘a’ of IPX3. But, the difference comes in the arc section angle where this test requires a 90° arc section on both sides of the center of the pendulum pipe instead of the 60 degrees used above. Also, the oscillating tube oscillates 180° vertically on both sides totaling to about 360°. And each swing (2×360°) should last about 12s.

b) Sprinkler Test

In this test, the time and equipment used also remain the same as the ones mentioned on Test ‘b’ of the IPX3 evaluation. Basically, the only difference is that you’ll have to remove the baffle with balance weights from the equipment.

Method 5: Water Spray Test (Test for IPX5)

Equipment Used: A nozzle with an inner diameter of 6.3mm

Test Conditions: Place the sample 2.5m to 3m away from the nozzle and hit with a steady water flow of..

Understanding LED Technology – How do LEDs Work?
LED lighting is now the most popular lighting technology. Almost everyone is familiar with the numerous benefits that are offered by LED fixtures, especially the fact that they are more energy efficient and longer-lasting than traditional light fixtures. However, most people do not have much knowledge about the underlying technology behind LED lighting. In this post, we take a look at how underlying LED lighting technology so as to understand how LED lights work and where all the benefits they have come about.
Chapter 1: What are LEDs and how do they work?

The first step to understanding LED lighting technology is understanding what LEDs are. LED stands for light emitting diodes. These diodes are semiconductor in nature, which means that they can conduct electrical current. When electrical current is applied across a light emitting diode, the result is the release of energy in the form of photons (light energy).

Due to the fact that LEDs fixtures use a semiconductor diode to produce light, they are referred to as solid state light devices. Other solid-state lights include organic light emitting diodes and polymer light-emitting diodes, which also use a semiconductor diode.

Chapter 2: LED light color and color temperature

Most LED fixtures produce light that is white in color. The white light is classified into various categories depending on the warmth or coolness of each fixture (hence the color temperature). These color temperature classifications include:

  • Warm White – 2,700 to 3,000 Kelvins
  • Neutral white – 3,000 to 4,000 Kelvins
  • Pure White – 4,000 to 5,000 Kelvins
  • Day White – 5,000 to 6,000 Kelvins
  • Cool White – 7,000 to 7,500 Kelvins

In warm white, the color produced by LEDs has a yellow hue, similar to that of incandescent lamps. As the color temperature rises, the light becomes whiter in appearance, until it reaches day white color, which is similar to the natural light (daytime light from the sun). As the color temperature continues to increase, the light beam starts having a blueish hue.

One thing you should, however, note about light emitting diodes is that they do not produce white light. The diodes are available in the three primary colors: red, green, and blue. The white color that is found in most LED fixtures comes about by mixing these three primary colors. Basically, color mixing in LEDs involves combining the different light wavelengths of two or more diodes. Therefore, through color mixing, it is possible to achieve any of the seven colors that are found in the visible light spectrum (the rainbow colors), which produce a white color when they are all combined.

Chapter 3: LED and energy efficiency

One important aspect of LED lighting technology is their energy efficiency. As already mentioned, almost everyone knows that LEDs are energy efficient. However, a good number of people do not realize how the energy efficiency comes about.

The thing that makes LED more energy efficient than other lighting technologies is the fact that LEDs convert nearly all of the inputted power (95%) into light energy. On top of that, LEDs do not emit infrared radiation (invisible light), which is managed by mixing the color wavelengths of the diodes in each fixture to achieve only the white color wavelength.

On the other hand, a typical incandescent lamp converts only a small portion (about 5%) of the consumed power into light, with the rest being wasted through heat (about 14%) and infrared radiation (about 85%). Therefore, with traditional lighting technologies, a lot of power is needed in order to produce enough brightness, with LEDs needing significantly less energy to produce similar or more brightness.

Chapter 4: Luminous flux of LED fixtures

If you have bought incandescent or fluorescent light bulbs in the past, you are familiar with wattage. For a long time, the wattage was the accepted way of measuring the light produced by a fixture. However, since the coming of LEDs fixture, this has changed. The light produced by LEDs is measured in luminous flux, which is defined as the amount of energy emitted by a light source in all directions. The unit of measure of the luminous flux is lumens.

The reason for changing the measure of brightness from wattage to brightness is due to the fact that LEDs are low power devices. Therefore, it makes more sense to determine brightness using the luminous output instead of the power output. On top of that, different LED fixtures have different luminous efficacy (the ability to convert electrical current into light output). Therefore, fixtures that consume the same amount of power might have a very different luminous output.

Chapter 5: LEDs and heat

A common misconception about LED fixtures is that they do not produce heat- due to the fact that they are cool to the touch. However, this is not true. As already mentioned above, a small portion of the power fed into light emitting diodes is converted into heat energy.

The reason why LED fixtures are cool to the touch is that the small portion of energy converted to heat energy is not too much. On top of that, LED fixtures to come with heat sinks, which dissipate this heat, which prevents the overheating of the light emitting diodes and the electrical circuits of the LED fixtures.

Chapter 6: The lifetime of LED fixtures

In addition to being energy efficient, LEDs light fixtures are also famous for their energy efficiency. Some LED fixtures can last between 50,000 and 70,000 hours, which is about 5 times (or even more) longer compared to some incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. So, what makes LED lights last longer than other types of light?

Well, one of the reasons has to do with the fact that LED is solid state lights, while incandescent and fluorescent lights use electrical filaments, plasma, or gas to emit light. The electrical filaments burn out easily after a short period due to heat degradation, while the glass casings that house the plasma or gas are very susceptible to damage due to impact, vibration, or falling. These light fixtures are thus not durable, and even if they survive long enough, their lifetime is significantly shorter compared to LEDs.

One thing to note about LEDs and lifetime is that they do not burn out like fluorescent or incandescent bulbs (unless the diodes overheat). Instead, the luminous flux of an LED fixture degrades gradually over time, until it reaches 70% of the original luminous output.

At this point (which is referred to as L70), the luminous degradation becomes noticeable to the human eye, and the degradation rate increases, making the continued use of the LED fixtures impractical. The fixtures are thus considered to have reached the end of their lifetime at this point.
