Charity and Compassion are Emphasized through Community Service

As Thanksgiving approaches, we are reminded of, and thankful for, the blessings in our lives.  Understanding that there are people in our communities who are less fortunate creates opportunities to help and serve others in need.

Service to others is inherent in Catholic values, and at St. Joseph School in Downers Grove, it is practiced consistently as part of a faith-based curriculum.  After the recent hurricanes in Texas and Florida, students and teachers prayed for the flood victims, and raised almost $1,800 to help support their restoration efforts. Congratulations to our 8th grade Mathletes (Dean Golminas, Jack Chvatal, Joey Nehls, Brendan Harbauer and Dean Golminas) on earning 3rd place overall, and Dean on receiving 2nd place in the individual competition, in the Nazareth Academy Math Competition!

On September 28, downtown Downers Grove hosted a Girls’ Day Out fundraising event where businesses donated 10% of sales to participating Downers Grove elementary school PTA’s. SJS parents helped raise $2,947 overall during the event and won Best Attendance for the 2nd year in a row! Money was split between 20 Downers Grove Area Elementary schools — SJS Parent Forum will receive an additional $250 bringing the total to $398!  Thank you to all who came out to support local businesses and the SJS Parent Forum!

The St. Joseph Choristers is a choir made up of young people in grades 3 through 8.

The choir sings for the 9:00 a.m. Mass on the third Sunday of the month, October through April. The choir also sings for the 6:00 p.m. Children’s Liturgy on Christmas Eve.

Rehearsals are on select Tuesdays from 4:00 – 4:45 p.m.
