There are many people out there in big spender-saver relationships.  One person in a relationship usually spends more money than the other on ‘unnecessary’ stuff.

Those cute kids clothes & shoes online,  the gorgeous purse on “sale”. Those nice pants, lovely top, nice pair of shoes, warm bed sheets, cute summer dress, it never stops. (I am guilty here)

It becomes a major challenge when your spouse is a compulsive big spender, makes large sum purchases behind your back, gambling away family savings, has secret maxed out credit cards of hundreds of dollars or unpaid personal loans.

Many people in big spender-saver relationships are embarrassed to acknowledge their bad financial habits to them selves, let alone to their significant other.

Many people in big spender-saver relationships reveal their overspending spouses are really good people who have bad spending habits. The “saver” spouse is willing to salvage their relationships/marriages.

To be honest though, your big spender spouse is responsible for their actions/decisions. Unless they want to change their ways, there is nothing much you can do.

Be the supportive partner, not their parent. Living with a spendthrift spouse can cause serious mental and physical health issues.

In this post,  аrе steps уоu саn take to deal with an оvеrѕреndіng ѕроuѕе to improve your mental health, marriage, become a good role model to your children and fіnаnсе lіvіng ѕіtuаtіоn.

Motivating yоur ѕроuѕe to change their spending hаbіtѕ mау ѕееm like jumping a hugе hurdle, ѕо іt іѕ bеѕt tо tаkе thе рrосеѕѕ in bаbу ѕtерѕ.

Although it can be uncomfortable, the benefits of agreeing on finances together as a couple outweigh the disadvantages.

Promising review:  My husband and I pondered purchasing the FPU home study for quite a few months before deciding to make the purchase. As a family of 6 and a one income family, it was essential for us to have a plan and have the motivation to stick to it. I first learned about Dave through budget research and purchased Total Money Makeover.

That was an eye opener itself but we needed more. My husband had just graduated from a four year university and I am set to graduate with an associates in just a few short weeks. We have been able to pay off all our credit card debt, we don’t have medical bills or any other debt besides a car loan and the dreaded student loans. By following this FPU dvd plans and lessons, we are set to be completely debt free in about 4 years. We couldn’t be more excited!Tasha .B.

Promising review: My wife and I are less than one month into applying Dave Ramsey’s program, but it has already greatly changed for the better our attitude toward money, debt, and wealth. We enthusiastically look forward to pursuing our new goals. Very highly recommended.John Francis Robin

A number of couples swear by this tip.  Each spouse has their own bank account, in their names, the other spouse has no access to it.

Bills are either split in half.  Do not lend your spendthrift money when he runs out.

The separate accounts usually create stability for the money savvy spouse, “wake up” the big spender spouse. When the other spouse can not meet their financial obligations, it will be clear to them where they stand.

Sometimes no matter how lovingly you speak, the big spender spouse will not heed.

You have showed your spouse the negative savings, maxed out credit card statements, unpaid personal loans, nothing seems to help.

Then it’s time to seek counseling from a certified financial counselor, or CPA.

Financial planning advice might cost money, but both of you will save in the long run.

Many relationship experts believe that some financial issues in a relationship/marriage are usually caused by more deeper issues within the marriage.

Your spendthrift spouse’s response or lack of there of, might be to due bigger underlying issues within the relationship/marriage.

Include fun money in your weekly/monthly budget for each of you.  It is so nice to “splurge” on something you like without going over the budget.

Fun money for each of you to spend on what you want without guilt, judgement; no questions asked.

Depending on your financial status, some people budget $35 to anywhere around $200 or more.

This money maybe used for among other things; movie tickets, trampoline park activities with the your children, haircuts, mani-pedi, spa treatments, Starbucks for your favorite beverage or clothes etc.

The spouse that does not use their money a particular month, can roll it over to the next month, saving more fun money in the long run.  Again, it is their money, they choose what to do with it.

Highlight thе роіnt thаt уоu аrе a tеаm in уоur fіnаnсіаl efforts. Othеrwіѕе, уоur ѕроuѕе may spend money behind your back.

It seems like yesterday when you could come up with  cost effective easy peasy dinner ideas for your family, not to mention cheaper, when the children were younger.

Now that they’re fast growing, they’re starting to eat you out of house and home.

For many families, the struggle is very real when it comes to putting nutritious and delicious dinners on the table that everyone actually wants to eat.

You thought about ordering those popular meal prep kits, but many of those offer prices per portion of $5 minimum, making every family meal for 4 at $20 minimum-spend.

That extra $5 puts you over budget, and when you’re trying to pay off a mortgage, or desperately need to buy a new car before your current one breaks down on the side of the interstate, or save for college for the kids, quickly really add up.

The easy peasy dinner ideas below are delicious and nutritious, cost $15 per family of 4.

Put your mind at ease with these cheap easy weeknight meals,  save up for the other things you need rather than blowing your entire budget on feeding the family.

Ready to eat more than make-your-own-tacos and spaghetti with red sauce to feed your family? Pull up a chair, put your napkin in your lap, and let’s begin!

Making this meal is easy in your skillet for a fast meal your family will love.

You can substitute in chicken breast, but that will cost more. You can keep costs down for meats by buying them at Aldi or Walmart

We recommend using chicken thighs as they do add more flavor.  Another way to save more on this recipe is to use shredded mozzarella instead of fresh mozzarella cheese.

  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 6 boneless, skinless, chicken thighs
  • 2 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 8 oz. fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • fresh basil, thinly sliced into strips
  • salt and fresh black pepper, to taste

  • Simmer the balsamic vinegar over medium-low and continue to do so, lowering the heat if necessary and covering it partially for 20 minutes or until it reduces to a thick glaze. When it reaches that consistency, take it off the heat.
  • Meanwhile, season your chicken on both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Melt butter in a large cast iron or stainless steel pan over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook for 4 minutes per side or until almost cooked through.
  • Top each piece of chicken with the cheese and cover with a lid. Cook until the cheese has melted slightly, about 2 minutes.
  • Take from heat and add a slice of fresh tomato on top of each piece, then sprinkle with fresh slices of basil.
  • Drizzle on the balsamic glaze and serve.

This hearty, comforting meal will be a family favorite. The spinach hides isn’t obvious, making it easy to sneak by the kids.

You don’t have to use ziti, any pasta shape is great. Aldi has a fantastic selection of organic pastas within budget too.

A great way to maximize your meat budget on this recipe is to go to your local wholesale club like Sam’s, BJ’s, or Costco where you can buy it in bulk.

Sausage freezes well, is used to make more soups and stews throughout winter.

Use the spicy variety of sausage, if your children can handle it. Otherwise go for the mild or sweet versions.

  • 12 ounces ziti
  • 1 lb. ground Italian sausage
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 large handfuls roughly-chopped spinach, stems removed
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • Get your oven preheated to 375F.
  • Heat a pot full of water for your pasta and cook according to directions on box for al dente, then drain.
  • In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium high heat for around 10 minutes or until browned.
  • Add minced garlic and continue to saute for 2 more minutes.
  • When sausage and pasta are ready, combine them into the pot you used for boiling the pasta along with the spinach.
  • Toss it all together until the spinach wilts slightly.
  • Pour part of this into a greased baking dish and then cover with 1 cup of cheese.
  • Then add the remainder of the pasta mixture followed by another layer of cheese.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the cheese has melted and is slightly golden.

Who could say no to bacon? This kid-friendly dish, is easy to make, takes just 20 minutes to get it on your table.

Pro tips:

Make it healthier with organic wheat pasta, available at Aldi for cheap.

Buying bacon in bulk at your warehouse stores like Sam’s, BJ’s, or Costco can help you save even more.

Like sausage, bacon freezes well so you don’t need to feel compelled to eat all of it at once.

  • 8 ounces spaghetti
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup freshly-grated parmesan cheese
  • 5 slices bacon, diced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley leaves, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Cook spaghetti according to box for al dente, making sure to reserve a half-cup of the pasta water.
  • Drain the spaghetti well. Whisk the eggs and parmesan together and set to the side.
  • In a large skillet, cook bacon until brown and crispy and reserve the excess fat.
  • Add in the garlic and stir for about one minute, then reduce the heat down to low.
  • Now, you’ll need to act fast by stirring in the pasta and egg mixture, tossing to combine. The pasta should be hot enough to cook the eggs through. Do not put it over the heat or you’ll risk scrambling the eggs.
  • Add the reserved pasta water in small increments until you get the consistency you want.
  • Garnish with parsley and add salt and pepper to your liking.

You are probably tired of living in debt, wondering how and when you are going to start paying off debt, to be able to achieve financial freedom, live carefree when it comes to money and travel places.

Dave Ramsey the author of the best seller Total Money Makeover has been educating many on paying off debt for a long time, providing many with this financial independence.

Turns out winning the lottery isn’t the only way to live a great financial life.

Ok, back to financial freedom, becoming debt free is a sure way to financial independence, it is totally doable with a little discipline, patience & gazelle intensity.

There are many success stories of Dave Ramsey’s snowball plan from individuals as well as families.

In this article we will cover the first 3 steps to your debt free journey; establishing an emergency fund and how start paying off debt.

Before you start paying off debt, you need emergency  savings set aside to act as a safety net when life throws at you that wasn’t expected.

Car breaks down, loss of income, emergency hospital visit with subsequent high medical bill, or your water heater breaks down.

You get the idea, basically anything that is unplanned.

Without an emergency fund, the alternative will be credit card debt or loans to pay for these unforeseen expenses.

Then life continues to be a vicious circle accumulating more and more debt as emergencies arrive at our doorstep.

Now that we know what an emergency fund is and why we need one, the tough work begins of creating one.

If you don’t have any money set aside presently, it is suggested to begin with $1,000 for an emergency fund.

This will be expanded later ideally to be 3, 6-8 months worth of expenses.

It is recommended to keep your emergency funds in a  checking account (separate of your current checking), or a Money Market Savings account.

Either of these accounts would allow for check writing, which is important to have for any emergency that arises.

Let’s explore some ways to get this $ 1,000 set aside.

The first tip is to sell unused items around the house.

That’s right, most people have stuff  worth more $ 1,000 worth lying around the house that they no longer use.

Start a list (spreadsheet), and list items along with the estimated resale value of each item.  It is a good idea to go room by room in order to prevent overload.

Start in bedrooms and go one by one, then move on to living room, then into the kitchen, and keep on going until all the rooms in your home are done.

The spreadsheet will motivate you so that you can continue to see the running total of money you could make on all these items!

If you aren’t sure the value of the products, you look them up on your phone in places such as; Craigslist, let go, and similar buy/sell apps.

This can give you a good idea of demand for your products, and value of the products.

The above mentioned apps are where you can list your products for sale, along with online marketplaces such as Ebay.

The second tip is to lower some of your typical expenses such as; monthly car payments, electricity, phone, internet, TV, money spent on groceries and rent/mortgage.

Lower the interest being paid on  your car, or if that won’t save much, or isn’t an option due to credit, simply trade in your car for a lower priced car.

Perhaps paying $400 per month for a very nice car isn’t a true necessity, and you are able to lower that to $200 per month.

The $200 savings can be applied to build that $1,000 emergency fund.

Install in a programmable thermostat. Depending on where you live, you can even out the temperature in your home, to save money.

Adjust your water heater in the warmer months.

Line dry your clothes during warmer months instead of using the dryer.
