OUTLINE OF HATHA YOGA TEACHER TRAINING
Traditional Hatha Yoga Practice
The early morning practice brings you the traditional style of Hatha Yoga. This practice is built slowly from the first week to the last week. The intensity gets deeper from intermediate to advanced level of practice.

You will be discovering Subtle Alignments of every asana with its variations, techniques and tips to practice are explored every day in Asana Clinic. As a skilled Hatha Yoga Teacher, you should know the safe practices as well as different levels of teaching the same asanas. It is also important to explore, practice and get the experience of Art of Hands on Adjustments. These Hands-on Adjustments can really enhance your understanding of asanas and teaching Hatha Yoga.

You will also be working on building your own Self Practice as this is one of the aspects yoga teachers lack. You will work on building, tasting the personal practice of Hatha Yoga, the foundation of a Hatha Yoga Teacher.

Build your Self Practice
Practicing and Teaching go hand in hand. The more you practice, better your teaching. As you evolve as a Hatha Yoga Teacher, building your personal practice gets harder.

During Hatha Yoga Teacher Training, we focus on building your self-practice of Hatha Yoga. It involves on how to prepare for the self-practices and how to find the progress in your personal journey of Hatha Yoga Practice.

Yoga Class Sequencing
It is not sufficient if you have a good practice of Traditional Hatha Yoga. It is also not sufficient if you know the philosophy of Yoga or even how to teach the asanas. It is a requirement of a better-refined Yoga teacher that you know how to sequence your own Traditional Hatha Yoga class. We discuss the Do’s & Don’ts of creating Hatha Yoga class sequences, work on the timing of them, find the modifications if required and so on. This is one of the essentials for you on the path of becoming a Yoga Teacher.
Learn & Teach Pranayama
Pranayamas are always the under-rated, the most needed part of the practice. Most often, we do not know how to practice or we may not have built the taste of regular practice. During the training, we strive to inculcate the regular practice of Pranayama so that it becomes a part of your daily routine.

You will also be required to teach Pranayama. The more you teach, better will be your practice. It allows you to get more equipped Hatha Yoga Teacher.

The Art of Hands-on Adjustments

It is an important aspect of exploring the skeleton of asanas. As you assist and adjust someone, you will be able to understand the techniques, different body types etc. It enhances your understanding of asanas in a deeper way. The Hands-on Adjustments is an art.

During the training, you will be working on every asana with regards to “how to practice, subtle techniques, modifications, the art of hands-on Adjustments” etc.

Teach to Learn

You become a better Hatha Yoga Teacher when you keep your student within alive and afresh. You become a better student when you teach. During the training, you will be teaching every day from Day-2 under the guidance of the Lead Teacher. As you teach, you will have more questions. The more you find questions, your knowledge of Yoga practice gets firm. This is the foundation of finding the Yoga Teacher within.

Yoga Philosophy
Yoga Philosophy is very fascinating. But when presented/taught bad, it seems boring. During the training, we discuss Yoga Philosophy not as an information, but how it can be implemented in daily life. It is very transformative to dig the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Chakras, Nadis & Koshas etc.
Yoga Kriyas
Practicing Jala Neti & Trataka are significant as they enhance your ability to purify the respiration and enhance the focus of the mind respectively. These are the two major tools we require on the path of Yoga.
Meditation Practices
Your asana practice is a proper foundation to build the state of meditation within. For a yoga Practitioner, it is one of the most significant aspects to cultivate the habit of meditating properly everyday.

I had an interesting discussion with one of the trainees of Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training this week. We were discussing how the “traditional teaching methods” have been and the approach of modern teachers.

Most often Yoga Teachers in the past were very strict. They used to beat or yell at the students if students wouldn’t have practiced or learned the way teachers would expect. Yogacharya B K S Iyengar was one of the most famous Gurus being very strict with his students. – Guru with a Stick – Times of India

Even B K S Iyengar had to bear the strict teaching methods of his Guru Sri T Krishnamacharya. Most of the Indian, perhaps the Asian teachers teaching Yoga, other Schools of Philosophies have been very orthodoxically strict in their teaching.

ADVANTAGES OF STRICT TEACHING METHOD

Though it may appear to be quite an intense way of teaching, it brings the alertness in students’ perspective. It offers no option for the students to repeat the mistakes due to teacher’s expression of anger. There was also student-teacher relationship only. This method does not have space for friendship or customer-business approach.

FRIENDLY YOGA TEACHING METHOD

Modern teachers aren’t very strict compared to the previous generations. The teachers are being adaptive of what students need and make the teaching more accessible. It’s rare to see a modern Yoga teacher being as strict as those of previous generations. There is a friendship, understanding and the methods of learning are evolving. Some even consider their students as their friends.

BALANCE BETWEEN BOTH METHODS OF TEACHING

Though the modern polished-flexible teaching method is accessible and student-oriented, it can reduce the student-teacher relationship. You shouldn’t be friends with your Yoga teacher. He/She is your teacher, not a friend. The Yoga teacher is not an authority wherein you need to bow down and surrender. However, the teacher can’t be treated just another guy but a teacher.

The teacher is not a Guru. Guru is completely a different term and a teacher has a long way to go. He/She can’t be a Guru just being a Yoga Teacher. The teacher can be friendly, but can’t be a friend to you.

The Yoga teacher should always treat the students as equal to him/her in his teaching method while the students shouldn’t think so! They should treat the teacher with respect and humbleness. This bond is somewhere between the authoritarian attitude and friendship. The thin line between these two extremes bring the balance and learning can be progressive.

Do you smell taunts around you? Congratulations! You have something good in you.

There were days when people were very expressive and used to bring thoughts in words in a sensible way which was pointing the limitations of a human being but also was encouraging to accept the criticism and bring a change that can enhance the quality of living. Our teachers, our parents, and our real friends do that every time. But the modern lifestyle has changed the way we believe and communicate with people where every one of us are playing the game of being right or proving ourselves right that we sometimes knowingly or unknowingly end up taunting others actions.

Yes, that is the topic. Many of us have been doing it or being victimized by this taunting attitude of the people with the whole we live. Let us understand it better.

What is Taunting?

To approach, reproach or target words with a sarcasm or indirect intention of insulting someone intentionally. It is a smart, scornful and jeering manner of mocking or criticising someone for their actions, thoughts or words.

Intentions behind taunting:

  • To criticise someone directly or indirectly.
  • To mock at someone of their limitations.
  • To provoke or tempt someone to react.
  • To tamper ego, respect and identity.
  • To prove superiority.

How can you identify this taunting attitude?

  • Taunting can happen through verbal words.
  • When you are disliked.
  • Sarcastic posts on social media, article or blogs.

When can you be a victim of this method of criticism?

  • When your personality, actions, and existence is seen inferior.
  • When someone realizes that you are consciously ignoring them.
  • When you don’t act accordingly to the other person’s wish and will.
  • When your actions can make someone jealous.
  • When there is a deliberate attempt to prove you wrong or provoke your temper.
How to deal with Taunting?
  1. Learn to identify taunts.

Sometimes we just do not realize that someone is our ill-wisher. They can be close friends or family members, so when they say negative things, we often believe them and take them to heart. You should remember that there is a big difference between realists and skeptics. Learn to listen to what others say, and note your reaction. If that upsets you and makes you feel depressed, then probably these people are your ill-wishers.

  1. Think maybe they are right. If not, then…

Sometimes they are just trying to be realistic. They may have good reasons for their negative attitude. Take a step back and think objectively. Figure out the reason for them to be an obstacle and figure out how to come out of it. If you really want to reach your goal, you will find a solution. If your ill-wishers are certainly wrong,

Just IGNORE and move on!

  1. Filter unhealthy thoughts

Enemies will always try to bring to you their negative thoughts, which can raise doubts about your rightness. Then it can grow and affect the way you feel about your goals. Stop these unhealthy thoughts as soon as possible! Replace them with positive beliefs.

Do not let them beat you!

  1. Smile at their Childishness

Sometimes people feel uncomfortable when you ignore them for many reasons and in order to get rid of this discomfort, they come up with different methods and begin to taunt you. They just do not know how else to react.

Be aware of this and just laugh!

  1. Be sure that you are doing something good.

Sometimes you don’t have to waste your time proving yourself because you are the only person to judge yourself. Rectify and address your limitations and enhance your capacities. Be sure that what you are doing is not affecting anyone in any negative ways possible.

Then why get provoked?

  1. Do not address the personality. Appeal to the Inner Being.

Sometimes the personality and the psychological history play a major role in making a taunt. Understand them properly. Address and appeal to that inner being which is beyond the expressions of personalities and dualities.

Every Individual is Potentially Divine.
