A gorgeous Banhoek home in South Africa catches our attention today, designed by local architect Henri Comrie. Inspired by Le Corbusier, the exterior of today’s home is beautifully minimalist with an oversized stoep looking out across the flower-filled valley, providing a constant source of inspiration for the owners.

The brief was to create something that welcomes: a modern exterior with a farm inside. The architects achieved the design by using walls of white lime, wide spaces, exposed brickwork, industrial metal and raw finishes. All of this paired with traditional farmhouse furniture and vintage finds within the interior.

The inside is a quirky mix of colourful furnishings and striking finishes. High ceilings, white-washed walls and overhead wooden bulkheads add to the style of this eclectic family room. Pops of colour add visual appeal with yellow-painted storage built-into the living room walls. Glass pendants in various areas of the room offer functional lighting in this space.

Like an oversized artwork, the library wall is a playful mix of colour-coded books on display. Rattan furniture and a vintage wooden coffee table add to the overall look of this space – which opens up to the outdoors with a balcony overlooking the lush landscape.

Playful design elements are used throughout this home, from the entryway and stairwell with a brightly painted server table displaying some of the owners’ favourite things. A mix of wooden elements and brightly coloured decor adds charm to this space and a welcome contrast against the white interior walls.

The home has been aptly named by the homeowners as ‘Johannesdal’, peacefully resting between lush forested grounds and majestic mountains. The home features a simple, honest atmosphere with a flair for colour, unexpected combinations and a strong desire to draw nature in. Creativity in design and lifestyle needs were at the forefront of the project, which features a modern exterior and farmhouse style interior.

Untreated wood, raw finishes and vintage furniture in bright colours fill this home and lend it its authentic farm-house character. In the bedroom, a colourful area rug adds vibrancy and richness to this space while raw wood acts as the divide between rooms and becomes an interesting focal point behind the bed.

Whether it be freshly cut flowers placed in a vase or floral printed scattered cushions on your couch, the mere sight of these colourful blooms immediately adds an element of life to a room. From textiles to lighting, designers have been paying ode to mother nature for years. If you’re looking for ways to bring an organic element into your space then consider a design from Euro Nouveau’s range of floral-inspired luminaires.

Fontana Arte
At just 24cm tall and with a diameter of 15cm, Blom by Andreas Engesvik for Fontana Arte is an easy to move, fun little table lamp that is guaranteed to add a touch of whimsy wherever it is placed. Its name is inspired by its petal-shaped blades and is a contraction of the word ‘blomst’, which means flower in Norwegian. Available in an array of colours, Blom has a compact fluorescent bulb that provides effective lighting with low energy consumption.

The Giova table lamp by Gae Aulenti for Fontana Arte is a multifunctional design piece. It serves as a source of light and a flower vase simultaneously. Giova consists of a transparent bowl containing a sphere of white opal glass, positioned on a metal base. Placed above is a smaller bowl which serves as a vase.

Serien
Poppy from Serien is available as a ceiling lamp, floor lamp, suspension lamp, table lamp and wall lamp. Turn the lamp on and behold the ‘poppy flowers’ awakening. Their shades open up gradually when heated due to expansion. Poppy has a flexible, textile coated stem that can be bent however you wish to change the direction of the light. Select Poppy in a colour to suit your style – it’s available in black, violet, red, or ceramic.

Slamp
Inspired by flora and fauna, Slamp’s Woody floor lamp has a light oak base that reflects the knots and veining of the shade. Woody is minimalist in design yet has strong, graphics elements, making it a unique piece to add to any room in need of light, shape, and décor.

Iris Cristal
Beautifully bold in design, Apollo from Iris Cristal is a Murano glass flower chandelier. This statement-making luminaire has 30 ‘branches’ and is available in colours such as black, white, clear, honey, purple and turquoise. Iris Cristal’s other floral-inspired offering is the Calista Flush chandelier. Calista Flush will no doubt serve as an artistic focal point wherever it is placed and boasts 17 intricately shaped flower petals. This exquisite luminaire is available in glass shades of clear, honey, purple, white and frosted.

Going on 25 years of business, and 45 years of bespoke furniture manufacturing experience, Da Rocha Interiors offers a fresh and exciting full in-house interior design and decorating service.

Arlindo and Ines da Rocha are the passionate owners of the company, striving to exceed customer expectations with their exclusive offerings. The craft has been passed down through the generations and together the team are continually looking for new ways to transform homes into dream living spaces.

How did you get into the industry?
“I was born in Pacos de Ferreria, Portugal’s furniture capital, renowned for its classic and modern pieces. I took an early interest in making my own wooden toys, which was the starting point of my skills development.

At the age of 14, following in the footsteps of a long family history of cabinet making, I entered the industry and worked side by side with my father and eldest brother, from whom I learnt the skills that are applied so passionately to all my creations.”

Where did you start in this profession and trade?
“Following the tradition of cabinet making, the craft was passed on from father to son. Although I completed theoretical tuition, I believe that a hands-on approach is the only one that works in the art of cabinet making.

In 1982 my skills were discovered and I immigrated to South Africa under contract to Hartmann and Keppler where I worked and perfected my talent for the following 12 years, during which time Iam honoured to say Iwas part of the team that created most of the intricate furniture pieces in the “Palace of the Lost City, Sun City”.”

What has been your biggest work-related achievement?
“Undeterred by political and economic uncertainties that characterised the early nineties, I left Hartmann and Keppler to realise my dream of running my own business. In 1994 I began manufacturing customised furniture. One year later Da Rocha Cabinet maker cc was registered as a company and a factory was established in the south of Johannesburg. The business became so successful that my wife, Ines, left her job to assist with the expansion of the company. Over the years our greatest achievements have been the creation of our high quality furniture and client satisfaction in the many homes situated locally and nationally, and even internationally. We’ve also done extensive work in hotels and corporate offices.”

What are your goals for growth and development of the business?
“Following the recent devaluation of the South African currency, furniture imports have become prohibitively priced in most instances, prompting the need for high quality, stylish locally manufactured furniture. The challenge is in offering a total solution within the furniture industry through a complete range of contemporary and classic pieces, and services packaged for the maximum satisfaction of the client’s requirements. This may vary right through turnkey to specific project branches, encompassing interior decorating, design, manufacture and installation. Customer satisfaction and total solution form the backbone of our business.”

Anyone who is going to buy a first home will surely feel a rush of excitement along the way. Why not? Buying a real estate property is a significant investment, and it won’t be a surprise to anyone that you’ll get excited when the time comes. However, you should keep in mind that the process of a home purchase won’t be as easy as you think.

There are certain things that you should consider before you start the process of buying your first home. If you fail to follow these pointers, there’s a probability that you’ll encounter problems through the process.

These tips will help you along the way…

Make Sure You Have A Good Credit History

Many lenders are sure to look into your credit history to see if you have had any loan liabilities in the past. They do this to avoid any future inconveniences when it comes to paying off your debt.

As such, you’ll need a great credit history to ensure a smooth transaction of your mortgage application. If your lender finds any loan liabilities, they have the right to disapprove of your mortgage application. For sure, it would be difficult on your part if that’s the case.

Avoid Shifting Your Finances

You should keep in mind that your present state of finances will be the basis of pre-approval from your lender. There are situations that a buyer will shift to other finances to take advantage of the deal even before their loan is approved. This move is a common mistake and one you should avoid.

If your lender finds an anomaly in your finances, such as shifting them to different accounts, it’s the right of the lender to ensure that you explain your actions.

Read Before You Sign Anything

The signing of legal papers is included in the process of buying a house, and there are several papers for you to sign. Before you touch pen to the paper, be sure to read through and understand everything,

If unsure about any legal papers, get the advice of a lawyer and ensure that you comprehend everything before you agree to it.

Consider Your Long-Term Plans

Since a home purchase is not simply an everyday purchase or a small decision to make, it’s crucial that you consider everything. Before you close the deal, think about your long-term plans. Do you plan to keep this estate for a long time or do you have plans to move due to work commitments or the chance of leaving town?

Think about all your options before buying your home.

Bond Registration Image via SA Home Loans Consult a Trusted Realtor

Realtors often get a commission if they’re able to sell a property successfully. However, the payment for the realtors must not come from the buyer because it’s the seller who will pay the realtor. Therefore, you should see to it that you take advantage of the opportunity to consult the realtor for whatever difficulties you encounter in the home purchase process.

Trusted realtors abide by a national organization with a code of ethics for its members. So, this should give you greater assurance that the realtor will offer you sound advice.

Takeaway

Do your homework and ensure that you consult the professionals before you make a serious commitment to purchase your first home.

Step inside today’s restored family abode on Sweden’s Baltic coast. Renovated to suit a growing family, this house actually dates back to the 1850s but is transformed into a bright and welcoming space.

The owners loved the flow and light which travels easily through the interior. Keeping things bright and inviting, they decided to create a welcoming family home with pops of colour in various spaces – from bright-coloured cabinets to patterned wallpaper and more. From the living spaces to the bathroom and bedroom – art adds vibrancy and a richness to every room.

The home is an eclectic mix of vintage, bohemian and Nordic styles. New and second-hand pieces are used together to create a calming family space. A vintage wooden table takes centre stage in the dining room. Gorgeous floral wallpaper and a glass chandelier add to the glamorous touches found in this space. We also love the quirky use of wall art with a mix of ceramics and glassware decor on the table.

Pastel blue adds vibrancy to the living room which leads into the kitchen. Contrasting sofas, hints of greenery and open shelving brings an eclectic tone to this space.

Wallpaper adds life and energy to the bedroom. Here an upholstered headboard adds a luxurious touch while modern light pendants act as bedside lighting. A simple stool is repurposed as bedside table and we love the quirky artwork – once again adding character to this space.

The bathroom also takes on an eclectic tone with a bright leaf-print curtain that acts as a separation from the shelving unit. A bold framed mirror an grouped lighting completes this space.

In a small home, your counters can easily become cluttered with all the essentials you use every day – whether cosmetics, toiletries, towels and more. Learn to organise your space and let your superior countertops become the focal point they were always meant to be! Here we share a few top tips to help you declutter your space.

Caesarstone Lace

Find alternative storage options

In the bathroom, invest in baskets, drawers and off-the-counter storage options for all your toiletries and grooming products. Under-sink storage is also a great way to keep all your toiletries together neatly – so pack away all of your q-tips, cotton wool and more and create a sleek counter that will help you feel more organised and in charge of your space.

Wall-mounted storage

Install wall-mounted cosmetic units to house all your favourite products. Not only will these help to create a clutter-free counter, but you will also have easy access to your products in one convenient spot. Choose customised compartments for all your nail polish, make up brushes and accessories for a neater appearance.

Keep your towels neat and tidy

Add under-counter baskets to house all of your hand towels for a neat and organised look. You can also install wall hooks or towel racks for a more streamlined appearance in the bathroom. Keep your hand towels off of your countertops and create a more serene space.

Caesarstone

Don’t hide your stone counters

Nothing says luxury in the bathroom better than a superior stone surface. Invest in quality counter tops and ensure that your bathroom is built to last. Be sure to declutter your counter for a more minimalist and modern feel.

Caesarstone sleek concrete

Clutter has the ability to distract and destroy the calm environment we all hope to achieve in the bathroom. Find a home for all your miscellaneous items and store these off of your countertops to keep the space organised and clean. This way you’ll learn to appreciate your counters so much more!

Invest in bathroom counters to last a lifetime. Caesarstone offers the best in luxury engineered quartz for counters with style!

Not only does clutter mean that you can never find what you are looking for or can’t use your home’s space to its full potential – it also means that you’re compromising your emotional and physical health.

Ready to take a stand? Here are a few tips. Start by taking stock….

1. Ask the hard questions
You need to be honest with yourself about how often the item is used. If it hasn’t been used in over a year, let it go. Another hard question worth asking is if something brings you joy – be it an item of clothing or an ornament. If it doesn’t, why are you hanging onto it?

2. Make it monthly
Take weekly and monthly audits of what you’re holding onto and what can be thrown away. This will help you keep on top of things without it spiralling out of control. If you really want to crack down on clutter, adopt the ‘one in, one out’ rule – for every new thing you bring into the house, something else needs to go.

Then streamline….
An easy way to streamline your lifestyle is by investing in double-duty items that do twice the amount of work in less space, and by seeking items with hidden storage or organisational space. This can include appliances as well as furniture.

HAS South Africa Show is your next great chance to get access to the technologically advanced and environment-friendly with hundreds of household products and producers.

Huahae Heavy Industries…
Huahe Heavy Industries Co. Ltd is located in Jinqing town, Zhejiang province, China. The company was founded in 1990 with the managerial philosophy to “Hold Together and be Innovative! Keep on aggressiveness and Pursue Superiority”. This superior company has passed its GS.TUV.ROHS.EPA.ISO9001:2000 quality system certification CE.

The company has 600 employees, with over 200 managers and technicians. The factory building of 60,000 square metres delivers an annual output value of more than 50,000,000 USD and the factory has more than ten modern production lines and advanced equipment with perfect monitoring and measuring devices in place.
