Hey Dads,

I'm new to the fatherhood buisness, my daughter is newly 13 months old and her favorite thing to do is try to open everything. She's got the motion for opening water bottles, she is trying to figure out door handles, and when she gets in cabinets she will empty the contents and move on.

This is normal right? Or is she understanding the mechanics of cause and effect really soon? Should I try to cultivate her curiosity with some sort of toy? I figured she would just be cuddling her stuffed animals and watching cartoons but she is just fixated on what I think is how stuff works.

Thoughts? Is she just being a baby or do I have a future science engineer on my hands?

As a stay at home dad it's harder than you think. And I have four kids! I have a 9 month old son a two year old son a ten year old daughter and a twelve year old daughter. It's a job .. As a man I always want to accomplish something and to be able to see the project in its completion. But as a stay at home dad a lot of what you do goes for the most part unnoticed. Getting up at 4am to give the baby a bottle changing the babies diaper and laying him back down to catch a little more sleep. 5am it's time to get the girls up ready and eating breakfast to be ready for the school bus at 630am. I do all this while my wife sleeps so she us rested for work. While the boys are asleep a d the baby monitor in the room with there mom while I walk the girls to the bus stop. I get back to the home around 7am and get the boys up for breakfast. The 9 month old eats cheerios while I make his 2year old brother something. Once the oldest son is set with his breakfast and milk I feed my youngest son mushy bananas or some kind of blended up fruit. I drink what coffee I can and wait for the boys to be done eating there breakfast. Its then onto diaper changes a d get the day going. I put on toddler education videos about shapes and ABC for the toddler a d play with the baby while still talking about the shapes colors and ABC with my toddler. And getting him to say new words by breaking them down into syllables. TI-GER TR-UCK ect. And we do this for most of the morning. At 10am the 9month old has a bottle and goes down for a nap. On Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday my son has educational specialists come for early learning speach and development. He is a late talker but has really taken off since I have been home and with the help he gets from his educational specialists. This in normally done around 11am. I start making lunch for myself and the toddler and get the baby up at twelve so we all eat together. I'm normally done first and let the boys eat and snack as I pick up the books and toys from earlier or just kinda straighten up the house. When there done its diaper changes and play time! The baby loves the Johnny jumper so I will put him in there to play or his safe space "the play pen in the sun room " my 2year old and I read books play with toys and I will start the dish washer or laundry while we hang around the house. Time flys! Before I know it we are at 3pm in the afternoon the baby has a bottle and the two boys take a nap in there room. 330 the girls start coming home from school. We work on home work a d if the school did not give them any I have them do a couple of pages out of our homework school books. Math and English. I make the two girls a snack while they do there home work and I unload the laundry or the dishwasher. While they are studying I prep dinner or fold laundry. 5pm the boys are awake a d there mom normally has come home from work. We have dinner as a family and after the kids take turns with the shower or bath and get ready for bed. I give the baby a bottle around 8pm and put him to bed in his crib. Then around 9pm send the girls to there room for bed time a d take my 2year old son into the room him and his baby brother share and I lay on the twin bed in there room with him. Sometimes we chat sometimes we just lay there and he play with my hand. There is a lightsaber on there wall that changes colors a d he like to tell me what color it is. After our goodnight time I lay him down kiss both boys on the head and leave the room. I say goodnight to my daughters give them hugs and close the door. Mother and I sometimes sit and talk a little before calling it a night. Sometimes I feel like I have enough energy left and shower before bed. By then its 11pm and will start all over by 4am the next day.
