Born in Nashville Tennessee in 1947, Gregg and his brother Duane (RIP) formed the Allman Joys in the 1960s, and upon moving to Los Angeles renamed themselves the Hour Glass. After releasing two albums under this name, the brothers moved to Georgia and formed the Allman Brothers Band in 1969, and the world watched in amazement with mouths wide open.
Along with his brother Duane's style of guitar, Gregg's voice became one of the most recognizable sounds in rock music, becoming a staple and initial driver of the Southern Rock genre. Along with bands like the Grateful Dead and The Band, Gregg and the Allman Brothers Band were the pioneers of the Jam Band scene, which still looms large on the American music scene today, as a direct result of Gregg's work. Known for his vocals but also the band's keyboardist and one of their guitarist's, the world lost one of the best voices in rock music and a visionary today.
