Police - Reddit by /u/ethan_daba - 19h ago

I’m talking to a former police officer about his experiences for my school news paper. I’m also interested in possibly becoming a police officers when I’m older. What questions should I ask him?

Hi all,

I'm writing to see if there are any fellow members out there interested in police patch swapping?

I've got patches and coins from South Australia Police. Happy to swap like for like.

I’ve been mulling it over in my head for years but I’m worried that I waited too long I’m now 21 so I was wondering a few things 1. Am I too old? 2. What schooling do I need (if any) 3. Is becoming an officer a good idea? I hear a lot about “the call” I don’t know if I feel it, at least not in the way others feel it “stop crime” way, I on the other hand feel the call in the way of “I wanna help others”

I used to be a car salesman for 2 and a half years, hated how useless I was in society and decided to do what my husband had done for 18 years. I have to get my G.E.D., so I've been working on that. But honestly as a female, what are my chances? I have no prior experience in the field. And I don't know anyone who might be able to give me any advice, so anybody in Law Enforcement please tell me what I need to do. Thank you in advance!

Forgive men if this might be the wrong board, but I was seeking if anyone had any knowledge about working at the Portland Police Department. So I was curious about how it was working for the Portland Police? I wanted to do law enforcement after I complete my college degree and Northwest is my type of area. However, I am seeing controversy in the news that it is hard to find good recruits. But I am also a firm believer that there are two sides of every story. So I was curious if I should be concerned about the management?

Do you just answer a few calls, catch a few speeders and so on? Do you usually get into scuffles with someone at least once a day or are those rare?
