I'm very new to orienteering and was wondering what is the best way to improve my orienteering skills while I have a few hours of free time and a couple of locations nearby that has orienteering maps. I was reading a book about orienteering (Discovering Orienteering) and got a bit overwhelmed by all the new info i got and want to put that knowledge into practice. So what is your favorite ways to learn and develop orienteering skills?
I have access to a map including longitudinal and latitudinal lines but unfortunately the map has no date which would allow me to calculate declination. Is there a way of determining what it is using reference points and/or a hand held GPS?
Hello I have access to a 50 acre wooded property I would like to practice Orienteering in and I was hoping to obtain a detailed map (easting and northing lines and declination). Is there a website that offers this information for download?
Hello I would like to get myself started in orienteering and I see two style of compasses. I was wondering what are the pro's / cons' of a folding compass with a mirror compared to one that is flat and doesn't fold? Also any advice on a good compass would be great!
