I’m just starting to work with oils, though I’ve used watercolor and gouache for a few years. Every time I start a new piece in oils, I end up blending the colors too much and it turns into a dark mess. What can I do to help solve this problem?

Also I’m sorry if this is a stupid question, just didn’t know where else to ask

Can anyone share any non yellowing toxic free drying agents they have had success with?

What about non toxic thinning agents? has anyone used lavender oil? thoughts?

Lastly, I have heard you can clean with orange or citrus for oil painting, is it a stupid question to inquire about using fast orange to clean oil brushes?

Please help! I was so uninformed for so long its a wonder I didn't poison myself or my family, or burn my house down.

Hello all,

I usually use Gamvar, and some recent pieces I've completed definitely need a few more coats due to the thick texture of the paint.

I feel I should wipe some dust off the surface since the first varnish, it has accumulated some on the surface.

What do you recommend cleaning it with that won't be counterproductive or effect the first coat of gamvar?

Thanks in advance!
