Hi. let me know if this isn't a good place to put this. My (US) state recently passed a law that changed the enrollment cutoff for kindergarten from Sept 1 to August 1. My son was born on August 6. Under these new rules, he won't be able to attend (state funded) kindergarten during the 2019-2020 school year, but he is eligible for the pre-k program.
I'm concerned that if I enroll him in the pre-k program for 2019-2020, he won't be able to start 1st grade for the 2020-2021 school year because he missed the stupid cutoff date by 5 days. Is this correct? If I enroll him in a private kindergarten, might he be able to start 1st grade in 2020? He's a sharp kid and I think he'll be able to handle it.
