Social Media Rules

Social media has become increasingly important. It’s become so important that most companies depend on social media for engagement and sales. If you’re a current or new business owner, you’ll want to optimize your social media for the better. When I first started my business, I would spend a lot of time posting on my social media outlets. It would take a lot of time, and effort to post on every outlet while also running my business behind the scenes. I found this same issue to be true for my personal accounts.

Luckily for me and many other business owners, a variety of programs have been created to help people schedule social media posts. Scheduling your social media post will save you time, money and effort that you can put into other things such as new products, and promotions.

There are plenty of different reasons to schedule your post, but before we get into the reasons, let’s talk about the different social media outlets you can use. The essential aspect to remember is that you choose what works for you. When people start businesses, they think that they must utilize all the social media outlets. However, that’s not true. You only need to do what works for you!

Which Social Media Platforms?

When choosing your platforms, it’s essential to know how you want to present your brand. Will your company be presenting information,  visuals, or both? Depending on how you answer, you’ll be able to choose the right social media platforms for your brand. For example, my company relies entirely on visuals. So, I use platforms such as IG, Pinterest, and Facebook. I don’t see much need for areas like Twitter, or Google Plus.

The great thing about platforms is that they are easy to create and delete. So, if you find you need one early in your company development but it loses its’ use later, you can easily delete it. Let’s get into the different most popular social platforms to use for your brand.

Twitter

Twitter is a great platform for any company that is informational or educational. It also works as a great way to implement customer service for companies that have other platforms.

For example, if you own a hair or makeup company, you can utilize Twitter by engaging directly with their customers. Hair and makeup have all kinds of interesting topics, so Twitter is a fantastic place to discuss those topics.

Instagram

Instagram has become increasingly popular over the years. Many companies have taken their talents to Instagram. Instagram is a platform that allows you to post photos and showcase information, products and more to your followers. Instagram is great for any company that relies solely on visuals.

For example, if you own a photography studio, it would be best to use Instagram. Instagram has business tools for business looking to utilize their platform. As a business, you will thrive on this platform, as long you use it correctly and efficiently.

Facebook

Facebook is a powerhouse when it comes to business. Facebook owns Instagram, so it makes sense for Instagram to be the second best place for businesses to thrive. This platform has tons of products and tools available for those looking to expand their brand and business. For example, Facebook Ads have become increasingly common over the years. Many companies have used Facebook to engage with their audiences in a different, more efficient way. No matter what kind of company you run, Facebook should be a platform you use to your advantage!

Pinterest

Pinterest is great for companies that want to store ideas for content creation. It’s also a great platform that allows companies to showcase products creatively. A clothing company that wants to display different ways to style their clothes should utilize Pinterest. For example, if people want to see how an outfit might come together, Pinterest would be a great platform to have. If you own a hair company, Pinterest is also a great place to display different styles. Pinterest allows people to create mood boards featuring your companies products. Pinterest offers a fun way for your customers to engage.

Major companies such as Google, Amazon, and even Facebook have utilized social media to increase their brand representation and sales. Google created Google Adwords which is a great social media marketing tool. Facebook has Facebook Marketing which is an essential marketing technique for many companies.

Amazon has a variety of marketing sources available for companies to use on social media. Social media marketing is taking over as the top method to market your brand, company, and products. Do you own a company, particularly a hair company?

You’ll want to read this article and see how you can increase your sales and your social media presence!

3 Benefits of Social Media Marketing
  1. Opens the floor for more honest feedback: Utilizing social media channels allows customers to give direct, honest feedback about your products. It also allows your brand to interact with customers.
  2. Allow you to test new products: Want to know how your customers feel about a new product? Post it on social media and see how people respond!
  3. Boost online sales: The more visible you are on social media, the more willing people will be to buy your products.
Choose These Ten Methods!

These ten social media marketing methods should help you increase your sales and social media presence. For those of you that don’t know, social media marketing is the process of using a variety of social media channels, such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, to promote services, products, and brands.

As a company owner, it’s vital to ensure that you know which social media channels work for your brand! Social media marketing typically includes paid and unpaid tactics to increase brand awareness. Both are extremely effective and will benefit your brand. Let’s get into the different ways to utilize social media marketing.

Create a Shop On Instagram and Facebook

Creating a shop on Instagram and Facebook is a great way to increase social media presence and direct sales. The beginning phases of social media marketing created issues because direct links to products were not readily available. Many companies could only lead customers to the link in their biography. However, all that’s changed and direct links to products are available for companies to utilize. Creating a shop allows your customers to view your products directly from the source. More people will buy with the product right in front of them!

Utilize Influencers

Influencers have become increasingly popular over the last few years! Influencers are people with popular or useful social platforms that can increase awareness of your brand. Influencer campaigns are just that, influential. They have the potential to greatly benefit your brand by increasing your followers, engagement, and sales. When searching for influencers, you don’t want to only focus on followers. You want to look at engagement and audience. Choose influencers that work best for your brand.

Make It Easy To Navigate Your Platforms

Navigating your platforms should be easy for your customers. When they visit your platforms, such as Instagram or Facebook, they should be able to reach your products quickly. You want to lead your customers and potential customers to your products so that they can make quick and easy purchases. You want to ensure that your sales are easy to come by!

Stay on Trend

When using social media, you want to ensure that you stay on trend. Trends keep social media interesting. The more a brand stays on trend, the more people will assume that the brand understands the current culture. When staying on trend, you don’t want to overdo it. Make sure you find the source of the trend and ensure that you always credit the necessary people. Also, make sure the trend relates to your brand. You don’t want to post something that turns off your customers!

Choose The Right Hashtags

Hashtags are important when it comes to the business of social media. When it comes to hashtags, most people have issues choosing the right hashtags. The hashtags you choose for your brand should be directly relevant to the products you’re selling. Don’t choose hashtags that will bring you the wrong attention. Hashtags such as #like4like or #follow4follow will only bring you people that aren’t truly interested in your brand. If you have a haircare company, you’ll want to use hashtags that directly relate to hair.

Facebook Groups

As many of you know, Facebook groups are a great way for companies to engage with their audience. You can create a Facebook group or participate in one that’s relevant to your brand.

Beautiful Textures At The Emmy’s

I’ve been watching the Emmy’s since I was a little girl. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with the gowns, hairstyles, and everything involved with beauty. However, I never saw textured hair that looked like mine.

All the awards show I’ve watched have always showcased the beauty that celebrities really bring on and off screen. For the past few years, the award shows, especially the Emmy’s, have become more and more diverse. As the shows become more diverse, so do the hair and beauty looks we see on the red carpet.

As a young black girl, I’ve always saw hairstyles that felt out of reach for me. My 4C hair was nappy, and unable to be bone straight like I had always noticed. This was especially true when I stopped perming my hair. I felt like many of the hairstyles didn’t represent me or my hair texture and that was discouraging. However, the new sense of diversity and expression has brought out textured hair worn by celebrities.

Some of the best looks have come from our favorite celebrities such as Issa Rae, Tracee Ellis Ross, Yvonne Orji, Letitia Wright and more. Let’s get into these textured styles, how we can achieve them, and who wore it best!

No matter what kind of hair texture you have, there is a style for you to try from the Emmy’s red carpet.

Braided Styles

We all love our braids styles. Everything from individual braids to feed-in braids are fair game when it comes to wearing a cute hairstyle. If you had watched the Emmy’s some time ago, you would’ve probably never seen too many braided styles but these past few years have been different.

At last years Emmy’s, Issa Rae wore a cornrow braided style that was bold and natural. This year, the braided style winner was Letitia Wright. Letitia was a lead actress in this year’s release of Black Panther, and her career has been soaring ever since!

For this year’s award show, Letitia wore box braids in a half-up bun style. Attached to her bun, she wore jeweled hair clips as accessories. She paired this hair look with some simple, yet cute makeup.

Achieving this look is easy. You can grab some jewels from a local jewelry store, or hair supply store.

With the help of a braiding stylist, you can achieve this look in no time!

UpDo Love

Updo styles were all over the red carpet at this year’s Emmy award show. So many textured hairstyles were presented at last year’s Emmy Award Show, and this year was no different.

May of our favorite celebrities including Yvonne Orji, Adina Porter, Felicia Leatherwood  and more. After looking at all the amazing hairstyles, my favorites were Yvonne Orji, and Felicia Leatherwood.

They both had updo styles that grabbed attention while looking elegant. They both wore their hair in updo’s that partially covered the top of their foreheads. Yvonne went with a jet black look, while twisting the hair and looping it to create her end result.

She looked fantastic. Felicia went with a similar look, however she didn’t twist her hair. Instead, she created a bow looking updo by putting her hair into a bun. To achieve these looks, you can use your natural hair, or create the looks with extensions.

For me, I’d use kanekalon hair, and edge control to complete this look. Get creative with how you present it. For example, you can use a bobby pin with a hairband to secure it to your hair.

After some trial and error, you should get the process down and have yourself a fabulous look!

Curly Textured Hair

Curly hair was all over at the Emmy’s this year! Here at PLE, we love natural hair, especially when people willingly embrace it. Some of our favorite looks of natural looking hairstyles came from “This is Us” star Eris Baker, Xoesha Roquemore, and Zazie Beetz.

These three wore exceptional looks, and set the red carpet on fire! My two favorite looks were from Eris Baker, and Zazie Beets. I loved Eris ever since seeing her on one of my favorite shows, “This is Us.”

For this award show, Eris wore two natural puffs on during her attendance. She paired with look with pearled accessories for her puffs. To achieve this look, you can wear your natural hair, or you can purchase some curly textured extensions, such as Afro kinky or kinky curly.

You can easily make some pearly accessories yourself, or you can purchase them at your beauty supply store. Make sure you use a lot of edge control to ensure that your edges are in tact.

Don’t be afraid to give your look a twist. My other favorite look was by Zazie Beets. She’s starred on various projects, such as “Atlanta.” She’s always been adamant about wearing her natural hair, but she went the extra mile for the red carpet at the Emmy’s.

For this look, you can simply braid your hair back in an elegant fashion, and leave some hair out on the ends. To make your curls stand out, you should use a moisturizer that defines curls.

To spruce up the look, use some accessories. When my hair is not colorful, I love to add a touch of color by using colorful accessories like pins, or beads.

Don’t be afraid to make the style yours!

Textured and Flawless

Watching the Emmy’s proved to me that textured hair is not only in right now, but valued. So many celebrities wore their textured styles proudly, and honestly. They looked absolutely stunning.

If you ever need some inspiration for your hair, try looking into these different textured hairstyles. Take the style and make it yours by adding your own accessories. If you’re feeling up to it, try adding some color to your look as well.

Don’t forget that your edge control is your friend, and with some extensions, you’ll be able to achieve just about any look! Let us know which look was your favorite by commenting below!

Crazy Hair Growth Methods: Do They Work?

These days stylists, hair gurus, and curious advocates of hair growth try methods to grow hair for years. The inversion method is one that’s becoming popular.

But, some practices are questionable and can sometimes be considered hazardous for some. Why would a hair growth method be considered dangerous? Well, I will get to that a little later, but it’s not to say that some methods won’t work at all.

If you haven’t tried any, then you have thought about it at some point. The strange hair growth methods that we hear from our YouTubers may have some truth to them, but do they work? Some hair growth methods can be considered dangerous depending on the conditions of the person, and other means are just myths that were eventually proven to be false.

The inversion method is one of the most controversial hair growth methods that were made public for years. What makes it so contentious is the possible side effects and the mixed results. Many people get the exact results that are looking for, others who have some of the results and more who don’t get what they expected at all.

Regardless of the method itself, curiosity plagues whether the inversion method is the best quick hair growth method for anyone!

What Is the Inversion Method

For those who are not too familiar with what the inversion method is, allow me to explain.

The inversion method is a unique way of getting quick and fast results for hair growth using scalp massages and hair oils. Most people are unaware of the Inversion Method. It is strange because it has the potential to give you the fastest results in the shortest amount of time.

This method is for all the girls whose hair has stopped growing (whatever the reason may be) and is desperately looking to grow out their hair. After all, who has the time and patience to grow long hair these days? I barely have time to sit down and eat a meal, nowadays.

Therefore, If you are a busy parent, a CEO or a college student whose assignments are piling up like mine, then this is perfect for you! You don’t have to spend more than ten mins a week doing this method, and the results are fast! For those who get the intended results, they say it will give you one inch of natural hair growth within a week of doing it.

Of course, for everyone who may or may not perform this method, results can vary from person to person. But, how exactly do you do the inversion method?

The tactics may seem strange, but they are, and maybe with the right oils and scalp stimulation, you too can have the result you desire.

How To Do The Inversion Method

The inversion method is not complicated, and it will not take up too much of your time either.

Keep in mind that the result varies from person to person, but who is to say that you will not get the results you were expecting? It does not hurt to try! So here is the best way to perform this method and get the best possible results you could get.

Step #1 Choose a hair oil of your choice

You can choose olive oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil and you can also mix oils too if you would like.

You could use a few drops of tea tree and rosemary oil, since they are best for scalp stimulation, and mix them in with your favorite carrier oil. I love to use coconut oil. I believe it is the best hair oil and would recommend it to grow hair.

Step #2 Warm up the oil of your choice

Do so in a bowl in the microwave for no longer than thirty seconds. You do not want to burn your scalp in the process. Make sure you don’t boil it because this will kill all the nutrients in your oil. You can also place the bottle of your oil in hot water to warm it up.

Cover the bowl or container, if you choose to microwave it, with a plate because the microwave radiations may kill the nutrients of oil.

Step #3 Apply the warm oil directly to your scalp, first

Section your hair and apply the oil, so it has direct contact with the scalp.

Apply the rest of the oil to ends of your hair. Pay attention to that part of your hair, because sometimes we forget that the bottom of our hair needs the most love. But, it is okay to focus your attention on the scalp, after all, that is where the hair growth comes from all the time.

Step #4 Invert your head upside down at a comfortable angle

Yes, flip upside down to where your head is facing downwards. Begin massaging the scalp with your fingertips in a clockwise and anti-clockwise direction. Don’t be too harsh that your hair breaks off.

Apply enough pressure to stimulate the scalp and increase a little blood flow. If you find some parts of your scalp dry, take some oil on the fingertips and massage it in that area.

Step #5 Now, massage your head for no more than five minutes

To help you out with time, you could put a timer on your phone. This part is important because more than five mins may give you a headache and for some, you may even pass out.

Step #6 While massaging, try to relax your mind

Take these next five minutes and use them as your time for meditation and mind wandering. The increased blood flow absorbs the maximum amount of nutrients from the oils so get that blood flow going girl.

Step #7 After your five minutes are up, sit upright

Slowly stand your head upright and breathe deeply to get the blood flowing back into the other parts of your body and away from your head. You can brush the tangles out after massaging. This part is optional, but you can also cover up the hair with a plastic bag to seal in the moisture.

You can do this every day for a week and then take a break for the next three weeks.

Step #8 Leave the oil in for a minimum of two hours

You can also leave it on overnight and wash it off with your routine of shampoo and conditioner in the morning.

Who Shouldn’t Be Doing this Method?

I mentioned earlier who should and should not be performing this technique, but I never got into any specifics.

The truth is, this method is not best for everyone. If you have low or high blood pressure, ear infections, a detached retina, a spinal injury, heart problems, glaucoma, conjunctivitis or “pink eye,” obesity, a hernia, pregnancy or any serious health problems then you should hold off on doing the inversion method.

Also, for my ladies, do not attempt this when you’re on your period. If this method makes you dizzy or abnormal throughout the day, please do not continue with it.

How Does The Inversion Method Work?

For those who may be confused as to how this method works correctly, allow me to explain.

When you’re just hanging upside down, the natural blood flow is disturbed. The blood now rushes to your upper body. While you’re massaging, the blood flow increases near the scalp.

The nutrients from the oils get absorbed better in the scalp because the increased blood flow carries these nutrients and the nutrients help in the production of protein. Protein is what our hair is made of, specifically Keratin.

These proteins and nutrients to our hair follicles are where the hair grows from all the time.

Ancient Methods Where the Inversion Method Stems

India is also well known for many of the yoga techniques we use here in America and other places.

The poses are meant to stimulate different areas of the body depending on what we want to see unblocked. Many yogic postures involve an upside-down position such as the famous Downward-Facing Dog pose. Yoga is why many yogis experience healthy hair growth after they’ve started doing yoga on a regular basis.

Another great reason to start doing some yoga in the mornings and at night to wind down!

Other Known Hair Growth Methods: Whether They Work or Not

Yes, there are other crazy hair growth methods out there that work the same way: to stimulate natural hair grown in the fastest way possible.

1. Anti-Fungal Cream

Specifically, Monistat, a yeast infection cream, is a popular method for stimulating hair growth.

But it does come with potential consequences that you must be aware of before trying it out. Some women experienced hair loss, headaches, sickness and more while others have seen immediate results.

2. Bull Leavings

This method is lesser known, and I do not know too many people who tried this out. Some people swear by bull semen and fecal matter (yes, poop), but I am not too sure how you would obtain this stuff unless you own a farm.

3. Cayenne Pepper

Do not try this one out if you have a sensitive scalp! It has the potential to burn you and cause further problems.

Mixing cayenne pepper with oil and applying the mixture into your scalp is growing in popularity. The tingling or stinging sensation you would feel after doing this method is thought to draw fresh blood to the hair follicles and stimulate a healthy growth rate.

4. The Placenta

Many people believe that parts of the placenta, an organ connecting a growing fetus to its mother’s womb, can help your hair grow longer and faster. Of course, many of us may not have direct access to a placenta just yet, which is why many brands are not infusing placentas into their products!

5. Peanut Butter

How often do you use the peanut butter in your cabinet? Now, you have another use for it!

Putting peanut butter in your hair is believed to make your hair stronger since peanut butter has tons of protein in it! Warm up the peanut butter, just a little bit, in the microwave for ten to twenty seconds and then apply it to your hair thoroughly. Leave no strand unturned!

Put on a shower cap and leave it in your hair for one to two hours. Rinse it out when you finish.

6. Baking Soda as Shampoo

Besides removing product buildup, many people believe that baking soda’s antibacterial properties are so strong.

It promotes hair growth relatively quicker than its all-natural counterparts. Keep in mind that people tie this to hair loss, so even if you don’t have sensitive skin, consult with a dermatologist before switching out your go-to shampoo.

7. Wearing a Shower Cap to Bed

If you’ve ever gotten a deep condition at the hair salon, then you’re already aware of the benefits of heat on freshly washed strands.

But, if you don’t have time for an appointment with a professional, some bloggers recommend merely sleeping with your shower cap on to trap the heat inside your strands.

In the morning, this will leave you with stronger strands that can grow more quickly.

The Inversions Method: Is It for You?

The inversion method has many advocates for its functionality.

There are also some who believe that the inversion method is nothing more than a myth. They think that the ones who tried this out had nothing but pure luck. That is for you to decide! What works for one person may not work for someone else and so forth. Keep in mind the potential consequences and also that you may not get the expected results you were craving.

Remember to take care of your hair and body! Some things are not worth the trouble, but you may get lucky!

Have you thought about trying the inversion method? Have you thought about trying other ways? Are you against any means? Was there something that I missed? Leave a comment below! I would love to hear your experiences!

What You Need To Know

Summer is officially here, and while we’re excited to be in the summer sun finally, it’s essential that we take time to think about our hair and how the new season can affect it. If you have relaxed hair, you’re going to want to pay attention to this!

Summer heat means more humidity and more dry heat. Whenever summer comes around, I love going to the beach or pool to cool off. The summer is also the season where I’m most active outside. When I was younger, I used to hate spending time outside because my hair would always become frizzy, and look ridiculous.

At the time, my hair was relaxed, and I didn’t know how to take care of it under extreme conditions such as heat, sand, sweat, and chlorine. It was a nightmare! Eventually, I stopped perming my hair because I couldn’t take it.

When I got older, I met this friend of mine that always permed her hair, and despite what she did, it still looked flawless. When I asked her what her secrets were, she let me know that she’s always having to regularly take care of her hair, and keep up with her appointments.

After doing some research, I’ve found out the different ways for relaxed hair to flourish in the summer!

Relaxed Hair? No Problem!

There are five key things to pay attention to while taking care of relaxed hair during the summer. Your hair is an entirely different texture while it’s comfortable. Due to this, you’ll want to ensure that you’re taking extra time to tend to your hair.

Neglecting relaxed hair is the quickest way for it to become damaged. You’ll need to put in just a little more effort if you want your hair to survive the summer heat. The five things to pay attention to are washing your hair weekly to moisturize it, avoiding too much heat styling, drinking water and having a healthy diet, getting a regular trim, and talking with a hairstylist.

If you want something low maintenance, then relaxing your hair may not be for you. If your hair is already relaxed, but you want to try out a protective style, you should talk with your stylist, first. Your hair can become damaged if you do a protective style that isn’t conducive to what your hair needs.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions about what works best for your hair!

Moisture Is Your Friend!

No matter what your hair texture is, washing your hair is very important. If you have relaxed hair, you’re going to want to wash your hair every week. Most hairstylists recommend that you use a bottle of shampoo that won’t dry out your hair.

Shampoos that are infused with oats, honey, and essential oils are my favorite. After using shampoo, you’re going to want to use a deep conditioner or hot oil treatment.

Use something that has protein in it so that it is extra hydrating. By doing this, you’re giving your hair the moisture that it needs!

Heat Can Cause Damage!

Heat is always a risky move to make when it comes to hair, but it’s even more dangerous with relaxed hair. Hair is already naturally dry.

When you relax your hair, it becomes even more dehydrated. Adding heat to the equation is just a recipe for disaster. To protect your hair even more during the summer season, you’ll want to go easy on heat styling.

Try to refrain from heat styling as much as possible. When you do use heat on your hair, make sure that you’re using a heat protectant. To make your style last, be sure to cover your hair at night, and only remove it right when you’re about to leave.

Trim! Trim! Trim!

Trimming your hair is such an essential part to the health of your hair. Whenever you’re about to get treatment for your hair, you should be trimming your ends so that your hair can grow exponentially.

Some people think that not cutting hair will help it improve, but that’s not true at all! The more you trim, the more you grow. If there were a real hair bible, that would be in the top five rules.

So, even if you’re scared to trim your hair, you must understand that it’ll benefit you in the long run. This is especially true if you have relaxed hair.

In the summertime, you want to make sure you’re trimming whenever necessary so that your hair can flourish!

Water is Hair’s Heaven!

Honestly, what is water not suitable for? It’s so essential to so many things but especially your hair. When you pair water with a proper diet, you can almost always expect to see surprising results in your appearance.

When you cut our junk food and increase your vitamin intake, your hair will thank you! Some of my favorite vitamins to take are B12, omega supplements, and a minimal dose of biotin.

This combination works best for me, but before trying it out, you should consult with a professional to see what works best for you!

Your Hairstylist Will Help You!

The last and most important tip to maintaining relaxed hair during the summer is consulting with your hairstylist. Most people like to relax their hair themselves, but because of the sensitivity of relaxing, I always suggest visiting a hairstylist.

A hairstylist will be able to spot any damage on your hair and give you the best products to use while your hair is relaxed. They can guide you during the summer so that your hair isn’t completely dried out in the heat.

Also, if you have any issues with your hair or scalp, you’ll be able to ask them the best form of treatment.

SummerTime Can Be Fun!

I know so many people that dread summer time because of the heat and how it can ruin hair, but there’s no need to! Summertime is a great time to learn the best ways to keep your hair moisturized.

If your hair is relaxed, you’ll need to pay close attention to how it reacts to the different elements of summer. Make sure to moisturize, trim, and talk to your stylist!

Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you need answers. Let us know your favorite ways to keep your relaxed hair perfect during the summer season by commenting below!

Stop, Drop and Reevaluate!

We all know that to stay in the hair business, we must keep our customers coming back, right? But sometimes it’s hard to get them to go back because most people think it’s up to the customer.

However, part of it is the customer, yes, but most of it should be the hairstylist persuading them!

Don’t ever think that your only duty starts and stop with styling your client’s hair. There is so much that a stylist can do, to keep their clients coming back. You see, customers are still people just like a hairstylist. They want to make they are treated correctly just like a stylist would, so its wise to just put yourself in their shoes.

I want you to think of things that businesses can do to you that will have you coming back. Once you do that, apply that knowledge to your clients! I guarantee you; they will start knocking your door down!

In the meantime, I have composed a list of ten different ways you can keep your clients coming back. Continue reading below.

Points Programs

Have you ever went to your local coffee shop or store and they ask if you would like to enroll in their points program?

Well, if you’re like me, you have! The purpose of a points program is so the client can earn points from their purchase.

Once a certain amount of points accumulate, the customer is eligible for a free purchase or discount. Having a program like this set up in a hair salon would be a fantastic idea! The more a customer gets their hair done, the more points they receive towards something great. The good thing about this program is that people love to feel included in situations, especially if its free!

This addition is also a great way to make your customers experience a great one. They will feel appreciative knowing that their hair salon wants to give them perks and that they aren’t money hungry.

So if you want your schedule book to overflowing, make sure you set up a Points Program.

Email List

There is nothing better you can do while running hair salon than having an ! Many people believe that if you give your email to a company than they will sell it and get scam email.

While there are times that some companies do that, it’s not all of them. What is very important about an email list, is the many benefits they provide.

As a hairstylist, they should focus on explaining those benefits to their customers and gaining their trust.

One of the best benefits that an email list provides is a top priority. Explain to your customers that when they present their email address, they will instantly be up to date with special offers and updates. Customers love that! It also makes you look more professional and focus driven.

There is something to be said about a person that is about their business. And because of that, your customer needs to know! This option will have your customers returning because they will see how much you believe in your business and that it goes deeper than hair.

When you believe in yourself, those around you have no choice but to follow suit.

Educate Customers

One of the best ways to keep your customers coming back is to include them in what you’re doing! Too many hairstylists style their client’s hair and chat about the latest dance moves or hot topic. But I know what would keep me coming back is having my stylist educating me on my hair.

Now, don’t get me wrong, many people pay to have their hair styled because they want nothing to do with it. However, others go to learn more about how they can maintain their hair at home.

No hairstylist should feel they are giving away their best secrets when they speak about hair. When that customer is in that chair, it should be a moment to educate. Customers should know the bare basics of hair.

The importance of clipping their ends, how and when to properly wash and condition, and so much more. Also, I’m sure hairstylist don’t always want to deal with a messy head even if they are getting paid.

If all of their customers had healthy strong hair, it makes their job easier and hairstyles come out better as well. So don’t ever think a customer doesn’t want to know about their hair because most do! Educate them, so they know you care and so they will return!

Keep A Great Atmosphere

I can’t tell you how many times I walked into a hair salon knowing I would never step inside of it again!

High energy and a great atmosphere, without a doubt, will keep your customers coming back! Most hair salons have a stigma that they are loud and rude, and that’s why many people today don’t go to salons anymore.

With all of the social media and the Youtube University, people are learning to do their hair on their own now.

So before customers begin coming into your shop, ask yourself how is the atmosphere. Do things to make it lively and bright. Make sure other hair stylists know the importance of that.

As I said, I didn’t have to sit in the stylist chair before I knew I wasn’t coming back because of the surroundings I didn’t t want to be around.

So, set the tone for your hair salon before your customers arrive, and I bet they will always come looking for you again!

Go The Extra Mile

Don’t you know people still enjoy free things?

Nothing gets a customer running time after time then them receiving free services from their hair stylist. Now, I’m not saying for you to do a free sew-in style and sit for five hours.

What I’m saying is it’s imperative for you to go the extra mile with your customers, especially if they didn’t ask! If you’re styling their hair and you notice they could use a light dusting on their ends, do it!

It won’t take that long, and they will thoroughly appreciate. When you perform acts such as this one, it will have lasting effects. That customer will never forget that you did something that needed to be done without them asking and it was on the house.

Even when you’re styling kids hair; it doesn’t hurt to maybe have colorful hair ribbons or other accessories that you can add to their hair. You could also, let the child pick out the item! I’m sure that parent whos sitting across from you all would be excited that you did that.

Going the extra mile is always something that most people appreciate and will have your customers coming back!

Be Flexible

Okay, I get it, the hair stylist is human and their time is just as important than customers. However, a hairstylist wouldn’t be able to perform their skills if they didn’t have any customers. What I’m saying is if you want customers to keep coming back, be flexible!

One thing that some people forget is that life happens, to all of us sometimes. So when a customer calls saying they might be a few minutes or they weren’t able to cancel their appointment, depending on the customer, they don’t always deserve a late charge.

You could also think of allowing each customer one freebie pass if they ever need it. Be flexible with your clients is beyond crucial and something they will always remember. Every time something isn’t right doesn’t mean it has to be a hard no.

There are also times where a customer may have to book an appointment for a special occasion, but it may be on a day that you’re off or after regular hours; if you’re available it won’t hurt to book them!

I can’t tell you how many times I have been grateful because someone slides me in when they didn’t have to. Be flexible and open with your customers this year if you want them returning!

Be Confident

Have you ever heard someone say to wear your confidence? Well, it means that when you have confidence, it shows!

There is nothing worse than someone working on my hair, and you can tell they are not confident in what they’re doing. You have to believe in yourself people! To many people, their hair is a part of who they are, and if it’s not right, then everything is wrong. M

ake sure you are proud and skilled at your craft because people appreciate that.

There was a story I read one day about a hairstylist who cut off a little more of their client’s hair than they asked. But the stylist didn’t freak out or anything. They realized what they did, and they evened the haircut and continued styling. They didn’t apologize or make a scene. That act speaks more volumes than you throwing a pity party would.

Confidence is more powerful than people think, so claim it and walk into because those you’re working with and for will notice and it will always work in your favor.

Be Personable

You want your customers coming? Get to know them!

There is nothing better than engaging with the person who is paying your bills! Get to know your customer while they are sitting in your chair for those next two hours.

Ask them how life is treating them, find out where they are from and most importantly ask them how they’re doing. You never know how you can make someone’s day just be having a conversation with them.

Being personable is crucial because it shows you care about the person. It may even begin to build a friendship. So smile a little more and find out about your customers. I guarantee that the next time he/she needs their hair styled, they will remember how you treated them and booked that appointment.

Host Events

Another great way to keep your customers returning to your chair is to hold events in your local area! Nothing gets people closer to you then them knowing you do community work! While the customer is in your chair, you can discuss different events that you will be attending or hosting that will focus on helping people.

When you’re in the business field, your primary focus should be on impacting lives and giving people something to discuss. After your customer’s hair is complete and they show their friends, they will also tell them how you do work in the community. It will show they you’re not just behind the chair all day and that you are want to make a difference.

Even if you were to host events about hair and educating people on it, that would make a loud impact. Keeping others in mind while you help change the world will keep clients returning.

Hair Tip:

After your customer’s hair is complete, give them a card that has a certain percentage of it that will deduct from their next salon visit if they refer a new client! Please love to help, and it allows them to save money!

Booked & Busy

Are you ready to begin having a healthy year styling hair? You don’t ever have to worry about customers not returning after you slay their hair the first time!

Now, you hold the keys to bettering your business and craft, so you make sure your customer keep returning. Just remember that if times get a little slow, put your self in your customer’s shoes.

How would a company have to treat you that would make you return? Putting your self in someone else’s shoes will always change your perceptive.

Make sure to practice these tips and tricks so your customers will still come running back! Now going forward your 2018 will be booked and busy.

Are you a hairstylist that might be having a slow season or just looking for ways to get customers to return? Well, let me know below if this article helped you at all!

Why You Should Have More Than One Stylist

How many hairstylists do you have? Be honest, and I promise I won’t tell your “main” stylist you’re cheating on her or him! I have three, and I know neither of them will be upset because they all specialize in different areas of hair styling.

My first stylist is great at keeping relaxed hair on point. She knows all about relaxed hair and can keep my hair ends trimmed, colored, and looking healthy as it grows out. She can keep my hair healthy for me, and that’s important when you have a relaxer.

My other stylist specializes in braiding. She can create any style I want, and I can always go to her for bomb foundation braids for a quick style. It’s one of the easiest ways to give my natural hair versatility.

I’m natural now, and my new stylist specializes in natural hair. She helps me understand my hair and get to know my hair’s “personality.”

I mention all of this because I think a lot of people with cosmetology licenses get bored or lose inspiration with styling hair. In this article, I’m going to talk about the different types of hairstylists and the tools they use.

I may add a few tips in throughout the article so make sure you keep reading to the end to get inspired.

So I’m excited to give you the behind-the-scenes to the cosmetology industry and help you to kind of think outside of the box. Some stylists feel as if they are stuck.

Hopefully, this article will help you to get inspired again. You may see the need to pivot or shift if you need to go in a new direction.

1. Natural Hair Stylist

If you’re someone who is interested in becoming a natural hair stylist, then your journey may be a little bit different from your peers. A natural hair stylist is an individual who cares for African-American or ethnic hair without using chemicals to treat the hair. He or she uses processes that result in tension on the strands of hair by twisting, wrapping, or weaving it.

The challenge of being a natural stylist is that you must understand the various types of hair textures and what products you should be using. The different style options such as braids, twists, and blowouts provide versatility a lot of clients desire.

Natural hair stylists receive education on which products (especially shampoos and conditioners) work best for your client’s natural hair. Shampoos should be shampoos should be special should be used to this angle as well as curl the hair leave-in conditioners you also want to enroll in continuing education you will need to make sure that you are keeping yourself up-to-date on industry trends as well as continuing education requirements.

Popular styles include braids, cornrows, and flat twists, twist outs, and updos. If you can work with extensions, you can also install Senegalese twists, box braids, Havana twists, feed-in braids, as well as locs.

Below are styling choices which are perfect niches for a hairstylist.

Loc Specialist

A cosmetologist can specialize in loc installation and repair. Providing this service is excellent but make sure you have gotten the training and education required.

The great thing is that even if a stylist begins his/her career working with all types of hair, he/she can transition into caring for natural hair only. There is a demand for natural hairstylists.

A natural hairstylist educates clients on how to care for of their unique hair texture, how to style it, how to maintain a style. During a client consultation, you will want to understand the texture of a client’s hair and well as the how to manage hair once it begins to loc.

A natural transition for natural hair cosmetologists is to become an educator who shares information with the public to further educate everyone on natural hair.

Locs are created by combining medium amounts of hair with the palms or a product. Once the stylist installs the locs they are permanent. As they grow, they will get heavier. Specialists redo locs about every three weeks.

As a hairstylist, it’s a smooth transition to becoming a wigmaker. Creating wigs is a sensible evolution of skills. Most wig makers do this as a way to increase revenue and offer services to those who are in need of wigs.

A wig maker handles work a week making or another word for an alternative Hair Solutions without much call and an immediate solution for baldness.

The steps to make wigs is pretty straightforward. You must understand creating a wig can be an extensive project.

Usually, the individual who creates custom wigs is someone who has passion or purpose to do what they do. Poor customer service and a sub-par product can be another reason wig makers start their businesses. Wig makers know the key to the success of their companies is to understand their product and have great suppliers.

Wigmakers can make a significant amount of money creating units although it can be a lengthy process depending on the style and color.

Wigs sell well, and most makers cater to a particular market. Hairstylist creates wigs for some reasons which are listed below:

Clients, both male, and female take their hair color very seriously. That’s why they pay a right amount of money to get the color they want. Colorists who are competent at what they do, can earn a good salary and have a comfortable lifestyle.

4. Extension expert

Not everyone can install extensions correctly! Some hairstylist don’t want to deal with installing a full sew-in or other styles due to the time it takes to complete the style. Therefore, stylists who specialize in extensions create a unique lane for themselves.

It goes without saying (but I will say it) that a licensed cosmetologist is the best person to install your extensions. They know to understand your natural hair and scalp as well as they know the proper way to install extensions to prevent alopecia and other adverse reactions to a poorly executed style.

Below are a few extension styles our expert stylist focus on:

Micro-Link Extension Expert

A hairstylist who installs micro-link or loop extensions can have a profitable business. Micro-link extensions do not use any glue, clips, or wefts.

Stylists attach a small section of hair with rings which are clamped down to hold the extensions in place. Micro-links last between two and three months.

SUPPLIES NEEDED

  • Loop tool
  • Metal plier tool
  • Micro ring
  • Micro loop ring human hair extensions

Brazilian Knots

This method of hair extensions is a safe method of installing hair extensions. These extensions require no glue nor heat. Brazilian knots are flexible, and a stylist can install them on any texture of hair.

SUPPLIES NEEDED

  • Extensions removed off the weft
  • Nylon elastic thread
  • Rattail comb
  • Scissors
  • Rubber bands
  • Duckbill clips

Sew-ins

Full or partial sew-ins are an excellent way to give your relaxed or natural hair a break! A sew-in which causes pain or discomfort is not the right way to install one. It’s essential you find a great cosmetologist who specializes in these types of installs.

Make sure you have your..

The Highlight of Your Life is Here

It’s getting closer and closer to consistently warm weather, summertime!

Do you know what that means? It is time to sunkissed nails, skin and especially the hair! Your hair is the one thing that should be glistening in the sunlight 24/7 when it is the summer.

What is a better way to do this than to add highlights to your extensions? The best part about highlights is that they can be as subtle or as bold as you want them to be and it is all up to your personal preference! You can choose to have brown hair with blonde highlights or even have black hair with burgundy lowlights.

At this point, it is whatever you prefer.

Another significant part about highlights is that people do them in numerous ways. Over the years, stylists and hair experts have been adding new techniques to highlighting hair, and they have yet to end.

So, what am I trying to say? Well, we know what the tactic of ombre hair is like, and we even do a little something about freehand work. Of course, if you don’t, we will be touching basis with that anyway. What I want to discuss today is a new form of highlighting that could soon be taking over mainstream attention in the next few months.

So if you are not on the wave, I suggest you finish this article to know what I’m talking about most of the time. If you don’t already know what I’m talking about, the technique is called flamboyage. Sounds pretty delicious, right?

Well, I don’t suggest you eat this. It is fantastic on your hair extensions, though.

No, It’s Not a Dessert

This new trend is taking over salons by storm.

Have you ever avoided getting highlights out of fear that it would look way too bleached and dry? The Flamboyage technique was created to give you that sun-kissed hair you had always desired, without it looking like the color is taking away the clarity of your hair.

This new technique is low maintenance, and a combination of two other pre-existing methods called ombre and balayage. The method includes using a transparent adhesive strip to color the hair.

Although there are different techniques to achieve the soft peek-a-boo highlights, flamboyage seems to be the go-to method.

Flamboyage uses an adhesive paper called Flamboyage Mech. The article is said to be versatile, easy to use, practical and everything else a stylist loves to hear.

It is a large strip of self-stick paper where if you apply the right amount, it will create depth and dimension in the extensions. The stylist will stick the adhesive side of the strip to a layer of hair in then lift it up. A random selection of weave stays in place on the Meche, and then someone paints the sections.

This method isn’t the balayage technique, which we will get into later. The hair gives a natural, polished and mixed-in result. If done on your natural hair, the method will still look good after some time of your hair growing out. The entire process is honestly creative and artistic!

The whole idea behind the flamboyage technique is to create a natural look within your tresses. You would think with a name that has the word “flame” in it, that it would mean the process would make your hairs end up bold and possibly unnatural. It is the exact opposite.

Even brighter colors tend to look natural, although, if you have a desire to get more of a bold look there are tactics you can do.

Some of those tactics include using beautiful colors to highlight your hair and applying thicker highlights.

Check out the video below to see how we do the Flamboyage technique!

*video*

Thank You, Europe

We haven’t always been in love with the idea of highlights. That is hard to believe, but it is true!

Back in the early 2000s, there weren’t many techniques that kept us from looking like raccoons. I am talking about the bleached over and block-like highlights that just weren’t attractive.

But, everything has to have its start, right? When ombre and balayage techniques came to light, it was like an entire hair revolution started that helped us regain our trust and confidence back into highlighting. Flamboyage is here to redefine what it means to put beautiful highlights in the hair and has now opened many salon doors to the concept of subtle hair dying.

Where did this thing even come from all of a sudden? The idea was created and coined by an Italian hair colorist, mega stylist and artistic director for Davines, named Angelo Seminara. Davines is also where anyone can purchase the Flamboyage adhesive strips out of their Italian product line.

Stylists use this technique in all Blue Tit London Salons, where stylists are calling it the next significant trend!

How is it Done?

I told you the basics of how but what happens during the process? Allow me to explain.

The selected hair you plan to highlight is placed on the adhesive paper, and it somehow removes excess hair so the hair left in the adhesive will be colored. This process happens while the paper strip becomes the surface. That is also the secret to getting the color to flow naturally down the hair shaft.

After coloring, the hair stylist folds the panel in half, sealed and secured. This process is low maintenance as stated before because the paper strip is visible. That means the stylist can check for the color development from a simple glance at the paper, which gives the stylist more control over the process.

What happens now is the blending takes place, while also minimizing the distinction between your roots and newly did hair. That is how the hair comes out to be more natural than other techniques.

One of the greatest things about this technique is that no matter what type of hair you have it will work on any of them. It doesn’t matter whether your hair is short, long, thick, or thin. It works wonders for gray hair, as well.

Ways to take Care of It

Highlights from any technique, still need the proper care to flourish. It is important to remind you that your hair is especially sensitive when it has been bleached or dyed. Here are some tips you can use when you think your hair needs some TLC!

  • Trim every eight weeks or so to keep your hair looking healthy and your style fresh. Your hair will thank you later!
  • Keep heat styling to a minimum to avoid fried ends and color fading. When you do blow dry, curl or straighten, use low heat settings and always apply a heat protectant first. This time would be good to do some research on a good heat protectant.
  • When you go into the sun, shield your hair from damaging UV rays. The sun can break down hair’s cuticle, causing those highlights to wash out. Apply a sun-protection product.
  • Dry your hair gently. Traditional towels create frizz, so it’s best to cut down on friction by blotting fragile, wet hair with a T-Shirt of a microfiber towel. You do not want to mess up your highlights this quickly in the game! Take care of your locks!
  • Hair care never stops, not even while you sleep and especially when you have highlights. Try using a silk or satin pillowcase to tame frizz, preserve shine and extend your style.
  • Slay the day away with your new highlights and learn to accept a compliment!
Other Similar Hair Coloring Techniques

You have probably caught on by now that there are other techniques you can use to highlight your hair. Because the new method of Flamboyage came into the light, we will discuss its predecessors of how it happened.

Balayage

Balayage and ombre came out before flamboyage and practically birthed the entire concept.

In French, it means “sweep.” It means to paint the hair, much like an artist, in a sweeping motion. This process is why balayage is also known as “free-handing.” The highlights will be in more significant chunks of the hair. That makes it seem like the sun naturally lighten the hair.

Foils and Meche were not used to apply the product, which makes the highlighted sections seem less saturated than other typical highlights. Also, the regrowth lies are barely noticeable, which means your hair will look as trendy whether you got your highlights a week ago or three weeks ago.

The process for doing this highlight technique is relatively quick and easy!

Ombre

Ombre is something I am sure most of us are familiar with these days.

To ombre hair means to go darker at the root. Once you are dark at the source of the curls, then you gradually get lighter towards the ends of your hair. Ombre hair is great because it works for any hair color. If the hair already has highlights, you can fake dark roots to make it seem like your hair has grown out in the last few months. It is all a part of the illusion.

Sombre

Sombre is less frequent in mainstream attention, but it is still just as worked on especially in celebrities.

Sombre is a softer version of ombre that is very subtle, yet fashionable at the same time. This technique is perfect for most hair textures. It is subtle. But, it takes the same amount of time as ombre. There are no real lines of distinction or demarcation between the highlighted hair and non-highlighted hair. That means fewer touch-ups!

This process makes the low technique maintenance and less expensive in the long run.

Baby lights

Baby lights are a relatively new trend as well.

It is a mashup between brunette and blonde that attempts to look like the natural lightened caused by sun exposure. The highlights are very subtle. It works similar to how we do the balayage technique, but it uses smaller sections of hair.

This tactic adds layers of contrast and more subtle color combining.

Splashlights

When you decide to bring on the bold hair color but stay with the blonde/brunette color combination they are called “splashlights.”

New York-based colorist Aura Friedman from Sally Hershberger salon, created this technique “splashlights.” She did this with the intention to recreate the color lightening of artificial lights shining on hair in a full strip.

It’s a low-maintenance way to make a confident statement and join the two-tone trend.

Écaille (Tortoiseshell)

Tortoiseshell brown/blonde marbling has made its way from retro eyewear rims to grace the strands of celebrities everywhere.

Say goodbye to stark two-tone and hello to multidimensional color with three or more varying hues of honey, Auburn, and mocha. The bold and beautiful Tiegan sported the look on a sweet beach-wave lob before adding more length and honey hues at her ends.

This New Trend is HOT

If highlights were on a spectrum and ombré was the most extreme and balayage the most subtle then flamboyage would be right smack in the middle.

Ombre and balayage birthed the term flamboyage right out of the air. It takes a little longer than the hand-painted technique, but the end effect is more sun-kissed, and we think it is worth it! Similar to balayage, it’s tailored to the customer and works on curly, cut, flowing, red and brown hair.

The sticky strips allow the hairdresser to be extremely precise with which strands she colors. The end effect has depth and vibrancy with different color tones woven through the hair. From personal experience, I’d say it is enough for people to notice and say, ‘your hair looks nice,’ but not enough to feel the pressure of upkeep.

If you are thinking about trying out the new trend flamboyage has to offer let us know! We want to hear all of your experiences and why you plan on doing this. Leave a comment and share!
