Perfect Match Animal Rescue was founded by Jill Thorsen several years ago & initially functioned as a cat rescue. Mission is to reduce the number of animals surrendered to shelters by intervening with owner surrenders where possible, rescue animals from these shelters when foster homes are available to accommodate,& help fund vaccine programs & spay/neuter education in rural & impoverished areas.
This handsome boy was recently rescued from Senatobia Animal Shelter and is currently settling into his foster home. He'll be having his "glamour shots" done soon and listed on Petfinder once Anne Marie has a chance to fully assess his temperament etc. So far - we can report he's friendly, happy and doing really well!
We've been pretty busy here at PMAR, now that things have calmed down a little I wanted to update everyone on what we've been doing! As always, rescuing dogs and cats of course! But, a little bit more too... As we always say, rescue is somewhat of a band aid so we want to balance rescuing with a lasting impact on the community to. So, we've been helping families here in the Midsouth who have reached out to us, keep their pets home, and providing the help and resources they need to do exactly that. We have spayed several dogs, and provided treatment for dogs who have had simple and not so simple medical conditions. Sometimes, people need nothing more than a little education and a head start to get going down the right road and we are delighted that we have been able to help on a few occasions in this area. We continue to focus on helping stray and abandoned dogs in rural areas, and members of the community who have found dogs and reach out to rescues for support. We want to encourage and applaud those that take the time to stop and help pets in distress, and not turn our backs on them (which may in turn, force them to turn their backs on a pet in need in the future). We are still helping when we can at Memphis Animal Services, have pulled some dogs from Bartlett and a few other area shelters too! As always we thank our AMAZING foster families who persevere through the easy and not so easy fosters that they welcome into their homes. Check out our available dogs and cats at our Petfinder link and in the meantime, here's your daily dose of cuteness - this is Jack - currently available for adoption (and transport to northern states). Have a great week, everyone!
Kingston and Callie are recovering well from heartworm treatment and will be ready for adoption soon! We would love to see them in a home together but will also separate if necessary to find great homes. These two are a true rags to riches fairytale. We just need to find a forever family to seal the deal.
The final chapter of Layla's story was set in motion today - her forever home! Scott and Renee dropped her off this afternoon and everyone is very happy at how it all worked out so well. Great family, same town as her foster and they will even be able to visit from time to time. Most of you will remember the long journey Layla has traveled to get to where she is today. Huge thanks to Heather & Scott Thompson here in Memphis and to Scott and Renee, her northern foster family. Most of all, thank you Emily and Mike for opening your hearts and home to this very special girl
On the left is Ruby on July 3rd when Jo's daughter found her. Emaciated, covered in 100+ ticks, had recently given birth. She was wearing a thick leather collar (like the kind dog fighters use), scars, wounds and HW+. Fast forward two months to September 3rd on the right. She's still waiting on her immiticide injections for the heartworms but her other injuries have healed and she's thriving. She's excellent with people, including children, and loves their dog Max (no cats). She will be ready for her forever home when she has completed her heartworm treatment. Thank you Jo, Erin and family for all you have done. A truly amazing transformation. She's one of the lucky ones.
Rocky has worked off his post transport energy and decided it's time for a nap. He's relaxed, comfortable and getting ready for the next chapter - forever home ❤️. Many thanks to Kelly and David for taking him in, allowing him to have time to heal, and once again to Scott and Renee for taking over the reins until we find that "perfect match"!
Little Gabe is finally headed to his forever family in Connecticut ❤️. This TINY pup beat the odds when he beat parvo and what a character he is! Full of life, love and energy and we can't wait to hear how he is doing as he grows up! Have a happy life little guy, we all love you! Thanks to Oak Tree for saving his life, to Mariah for fostering and all involved for making this possible.
Rocky the Rockstar left Memphis this morning and headed to New England! This handsome doggie already has a great application and is going to Scott and Renee's fabulous foster home (lucky boy!) until his forever family is found. Kelly and David - thank you so much for all you've done for this sweet dog. He's going to have a great life now - all because you guys made the decision to stop and help.
