Countless songs by pop, country, rock, soul, and even heavy metal artists have found inspiration in the highs and lows of poker and gambling. These are some of our favourites to get you started on your own personal poker party soundtrack.

Note: Each song title links to a YouTube page where the song can be heard. Check ’em out!

1. “The Gambler”
The Gambler, written by Don Schlitz and performed by the legendary Country singer Kenny Rogers is the poker song. It’s full of poker and gambling advice that is relevant today despite being released in 1979. the classic line “You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em” still has to be the quintessential poker couplet.

2. “Poker Face”
OK, so Lady Gaga’s Poker Face is really about the game of romance rather than the game of poker, the catchy refrain of “Can’t read my poker face” should still psych you up to win at the tables. Did you know that it was the best selling single of 2009 with over 9.5 million copies sold?

3. “Ace of Spades”
If you need a song to come through your headphones and give you an adrenaline boost then this is it. The Motorhead heavy metal classic about a die-hard gambler living on the edge will have your competitive juices flowing fast, plus you’ll never look at the ace of spades again without singing this song in your head!

4. “Luck Be a Lady”
Lady Luck can be fickle and it never hurts to plead with her to be on your side, whether you’re tossing dice like Sky Masterson in the 1955 movie musical Guys and Dolls, or playing online poker in your den.

5. “Gambler”
“I’m a gambler, and I will take you by surprise / Gambler, I’ll aim this straight between your eyes,” goes this 1984 song from the soundtrack to the movie Vision Quest. Sounds like a good mantra for any card player.

6. “Viva Las Vegas”
Bring some Vegas casino swagger right into your home with the classic paean to the glitz and glamour of Sin City. Written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, and performed by the legendary Elvis Presley, Viva Las Vegas was never sung live by “The King” but you can’t help singing it yourself when you pass through security at McCarran International Airport!

7. “Queen of Hearts”
Is playing with the queen of hearts not very smart, and the joker ain’t the only fool,  sang Juice Newton in 1981. You can make up your own mind about that one.

8. “A Good Run of Bad Luck”
This song about playing fast and loose in craps and in love was featured on the soundtrack to the much-loved 1994 gambling movie Maverick. The accompanying music video was shot in an old western themed town with artist Clint Black and his band playing in a dark room with playing cards strewn across the floor.

9. “Losing Hand”
The oldest song on here is Ray Charles’ Losing Hand, which may be more about love than gambling, but gambling’s gambling, right? Bouncing back from a losing hand is easier when you’ve got some soulful inspiration to steel you for your next round.

10. “The Jack”
If there’s one thing AC/DC are capable of doing is literally turning anything into a double entendre, including a playing card!

Bang These Tunes On While Your Grind Our MTTs

We have so many awesome tournaments to get stuck into that you’re going to need a whole lot more songs to get your through a session.

Russian poker player “YmbertoZhukov” was going about his daily business while POWERFEST was running when he stumbled across an Instagram post from the partypoker pro Anatoly “NL_Profit” Filatov.

The post gave details about the KO a Pro promotion that ran during the third and final week of the $60 million guaranteed festival; it was the final time the promotion would run. On this occasion, anyone from Russia who busted Filatov from $16.50 POWERFEST #136-L: $30K Gtd PKO event would get their hands on a $1,050 ticket for one of the POWERFEST Championship Events.

YmbertoZhukov hadn’t played on partypoker for a while, but saw the value in this promotion so logged into his account to make a deposit. He never had to deposit because, when he fired up his account, he discovered a $5.50 ticket in there. A little grinding later and YmbertoZhukov turned that $5.50 into $40, more than enough to get involved in the KO a Pro promotion.

The rest, as they say, is history.

The biggest tournament of YmbertoZhukov’s life

After busting Filatov from the $16.50 POWERFEST #136-L: $30K Gtd PKO event, YmbertoZhukov was now the proud owner of a $1,050 POWERFEST Championship ticket and was ready to play in the biggest tournament of his life.

“I was very nervous from the start of the $1,000 event. I never played such a high buy-in tournament,” he told the partypoker blog. “My range is usually from $3 to $22. I take a walk in a park with my kid to calm my nerves. My goal was to win some money, so I was trying to get few bounties or get to the minimum cash.”

The Poker Gods were shining down on YmbertoZhukov and he navigated his way through the shark-infested waters of the big buy-in event and eventually found himself at the final table where he was guaranteed to walk away with at least $7,169 plus four-figures worth of bounty payments, all from a free $5.50 ticket.

One by one the players at the final table busted, YmbertoZhukov found himself in the final four places and he was now guaranteed $30,498 for his efforts.

No deal!

“When there was four of us, I tried to suggest a deal, but nipa3p3 was silent and imPlayCash said: ‘Don’t even dream about it’.”

The player known as “pakzoo” busted in fourth-place followed by “imPlayCash” in third-place to leave YmbertoZhukov heads-up against nipa3p3, who is the talented Pavel Plesuv the talented Moldovan who finished as runner-up to Viktor “Isildur1” Blom in the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Germany Main Event. It was a battle that YmbertoZhukov would ultimately lose, although the fact he turned a free ticket into $69,418 from the main prize pool and $5,768 worth of bounties for a combined score of $75,186 makes him a winner in our eyes.

“I was the one in heads-up and at some point I even had the lead and was one card away from taking it, but he catch the flush on the river and doubled up. And after that he outplayed me, but it is not a shame to lose to top regular,” said a gracious YmbertoZhukov.

YmbertoZhukov’s poker plans

YmbertoZhukov was full of praise for Filatov and the work he does as a partypoker ambassador. He is also looking forward to facing Filatov at the felt if he decides to play the EAPT Grand Final in Sochi, Russia during October.

“I am so grateful for what Anatoly Filatov doing to make poker more popular in Russia. If it was not for him I would never had a fantastic moment like this. I won $75,178 and spent $0 to get it. I don’t think I would make big purchases. I am a family man, so I will use it for the future. Also I would love to go to Sochi and play in big live event. May be I go and play EAPT Grand Final in October.”

Let’s hope YmbertoZhukov does head to Sochi in October and puts together yet another deep run.

Some 6,214 entries were processed before the late registration period ended, an incredible turnout; thank you for your amazing support. This bumper crowd meant the $200,000 prize pool was shared among the top 792 finishers.

Patrick “Patrick_Leonard” Leonard was the only member of Team partypoker to navigate their way to the money places, busting in 159th place for $77 plus $90.67 worth of bounty payments.

By the time the eight-handed final table was set, the least money anyone would take home was $905.48 plus whatever they had earned for eliminating opponents on their way to the finale.

The lion’s share of the prize pool went to our worthy champion julianpineda87 who got their hands on $14,814.47 from the main prize pool and $5,852.62 from the bounty prize pool. Shout-out to julianpineda87’s heads-up opponent “ivichk0” who also walked away with a five-figure score, namely $10,375.57 plus $2,013.09 from the bounty prize pool.

Keep your schedules free on Sunday 21 October at 18:00 CET because we’re running an $11 buy-in tournament that has a ridiculous $100,000 guaranteed prize pool, meaning we would need 10,000 entries to meet the guarantee!

Overall POWEFEST drew a combined 946,000 entrants as the series continues to prove its appeal across players of all tastes and bankrolls.

Day 1 of the partypoker Irish Poker Masters got off to a flying start, at my table at least.

One of the guys told us that three lads from Dublin were sharing a room. They’d had an early start and a late finish the evening before so were a little confused as to what had actually happened. The three of them went to bed, and when they woke up there were four of them sleeping in the room. Everyone assumed that the fourth guy was a mate of one of the other two. Fair enough. But when he got up and went about his business, the lads pooled information and discovered no one had a clue who he was. Furthermore, he had managed to get a bed of his own while two guys shared a double bed. It got better a couple of hours later, when they made a few enquiries and were told this guy had a room of his own, which he had sublet to two other lads. You have got to give the guy credit for a job well done!

The day also finished well when I dogged my friend Colin Quarry in a big pot. A million is a million, so I went straight to bed but not before checking the wardrobe and under the bed for new friends. If lightning is going to strike twice it is likely to be in Killarney!

Despite my being the most rested guy in the room, Day 2 went pear shaped within five or six levels. I’m not doing that again. But not before I had a good laugh with a few English players who were up for the craic. Another of the English lads pulled up a chair beside me whilst I was having lunch and asked if a story I’d written ten years or more ago was true. Unfortunately, it was.

What happened was I was going through security in Beauvais Airport outside Paris with a laptop and a book my only luggage. What could go wrong here? What could go wrong was the previously bored looking security girl glanced through the book and summoned assistance. Guys appeared, as if by magic, including a guy in paramilitary uniform with a machine gun who looked like he’d just love to shoot me. They took me to a back room and sat me there with the gun pointed at me .They were very interested in the book which was Harrington on Hold’em Part 1. The problem was the diagrams used to illustrate hands were made up of a series of circles joined by lines, which they thought were instructions for making a bomb. Eventually, they figured it out and, much to the disappointment of the lad with the gun, let me go about my business.

Six months later, I got a call from Fintan telling me I had my own page that day in the Irish Daily Mirror, with a picture of me under a headline “IRISH POKER PLAYER IN TERROR ALERT AT FRENCH AIRPORT”. I thought he was having a laugh. Then my mother phoned and asked what the hell was going on. Oh God. The problem was you’d have to read the whole article to realise all I’d done was buy a poker book and the newspaper was having a slow news day. Not doing that again!

A charity event for the homeless and suicide counselling rounded off the festival (Padraig won it! – Ed). Thank you partypoker for your generous sponsorship. It was hilarious! One of the highlights was when guy who never shut up for a second came out with the gem “I got a note from my doctor. It said DON’T COME BACK”. We could see the doctor’s point!

Bounty Hunter tournaments are some of the most-exciting and potentially lucrative multi-table tournaments found at partypoker, a fact that grows truer with the launch of the value-packed BIG Bounty Hunters.

The new BIG Bounty Hunters shuffle up and deal for the first time at 19:00 CET on Monday 24th September and they are sure to be a huge hit with fans of PKO events. Six such BIG Bounty Hunter tournaments kick off every day with buy-ins ranging from $0.22 up to $530 and guaranteed prize pool weighing in at between $500 and a cool $200,000.

BIG Bounty Hunter Schedule
Buy-in Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun
$530 $100,000 $100,000 $100,000 $100,000 $50,000 $50,000 $200,000
$109 $100,000 $100,000 $100,000 $100,000 $50,000 $50,000 $200,000
$22 $50,000 $50,000 $50,000 $50,000 $50,000 $50,000 $50,000
$5.50 $10,000 $10,000 $10,000 $10,000 $10,000 $10,000 $20,000
$1.10 $2,500 $2,500 $2,500 $2,500 $2,500 $2,500 $5,000
$0.22 $500 $500 $500 $500 $500 $500 $1,000

All six BIG Bounty Hunter tournaments are exceptional value thanks to the fact we do not, unlike some other online poker sites out there, charge a registration fee / rake on the bounty element of our PKO events. This means more money goes into the bounty prize pool and therefore more money in your pocket!

For example, in a $109 BIG Bounty Hunter tournament, $50 goes into the main prize pool, $54 goes into the bounty prize pool and there is a $5 registration fee. Compare this to other sites where $50 goes into the main prize pool, $50 goes into the bounty prize pool and a $9 registration fee is taken and you can see how awesome our PKO tournaments are.

The $22 buy-in BIG Bounty Hunter has a huge $50,000 guaranteed prize pool every day throughout the week and is sure to become a firm favourite with everyone who competes in it.

On Sunday 30 September, the $22 buy-on BIG Bounty Hunter will feature a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool, make sure you do not miss out on this huge event!

How do BIG Bounty Hunters work?

BIG Bounty Hunter tournaments play the exact same way as the majority of standard MTTs with the main exception being every player has a bounty on their head throughout the event. Eliminate an opponent and you instantly receive half of their bounty as a prize, the other half of the bounty is then added to your own bounty, making you a more lucrative target to everyone else in the tournament.

Some of the bounty prizes towards the end of a BIG Bounty Hunter can be massive and the eventual champion not only secures the first-place prize and the entire bounty of the runner-up, they also scoop their own bounty! This can often mean the champion’s bounty payment is more than the prize money they receive from the main prize pool!

Other Bounty Hunter tournaments

There are dozens of Bounty Hunter tournaments running throughout the day that are perfect for honing your skills for these BIG Bounty Hunters and their huge big guarantees. Buy-ins range from $0.22 up to $215 so there is a tournament for everyone regardless of the size of their bankroll.

Check out the full Bounty Hunter schedule here.

Team partypoker members Renato “renatononumra” Nomura, Bertrand “ElkY_” Grospellier, Kristen “Krissyb24” Bicknell, Day “daykotoviezy” Kotoviezy, Patrick “Patrick_Leonard” Leonard and Dzmitry “Dzmitry_Urbanov” Urbanovich all cashed, the latter falling in 73rd place.

The player of the hour, however, was “NotoriousGIB” who topped the monster-sized field to get their hands on a combined score worth a cool $67,434. They defeated “AzorAhai” heads-up to bank this massive sum, resigning the runner-up to a $30,897 prize from the main prize pool and an additional $7,950 worth of bounty payments.

So POWERFEST is now done and dusted, but there are still giant prize pools to play for in our daily Power Series tournaments and the $20 million guaranteed MILLIONS Online event.

We launched some brand new MILLIONS Online satellites where we are adding $5,300 seats to the prize pool instead of simply guaranteeing a seat. This means there will always be an extra seat to be won in these satellites regardless of the prize pool accumulated.

There are also some excellent Phased Satellites that run every two hours from 16:00-02:00 CET. You take your chip stacks from each Phased Satellite through to a weekly “Final Phase” Qualifier where 10 seats, worth $5,300 each, are added to the prize pool, meaning there’s a huge $5,000 in added-value to be won every week!
