Many companies have increased their focus on employee turnover and retention in 2019. Likely your company is doing the same to increase the ROI when it comes to your employees and the onboarding process. Managed IT services could save your company tens of thousands of dollars, if not hundreds of thousands.

You Need an IT Team

Hiring on an IT staff is a costly, time-consuming endeavor for any company. The hiring process often takes months only to find candidates that don’t always live up to the needs or desires of your administration. IT staff are generally a higher paid part of any company, which means losing one costs your business that much more. Most companies face an average training cost of around $1,200 per employee. Small businesses stand to lose big when one of those employees walks away.

The cost of losing an employee goes far beyond the cost of recruiting and training a replacement. According to 2017 article by the Huffington Post, companies stand to lose over 200% of the annual salary of specialized employees. Technology and software have one of the highest rates of employee turnover.

Losing a $60k per year employee means losing upwards of $240k. This kind of financial burden weighs heavily on any company but, more so on small businesses and startups. When every penny counts toward your bottom line, you need to be sure of who you bring onboard.

IT Has a High Rate of Employee Turnover

This March 2018 article by LinkedIn details the industries with the highest employee turnover rate and the reasoning behind it. Technology and software come in first. Employees in this field move around in hopes of making more money or for jobs with better perks. When one of these employees leaves the company, more than money is at stake.

Outgoing employees also disrupt company routines. Often an employee leaves before their replacement is fully trained or informed about the daily duties they are taking on. This disruption leads to a considerable loss of time that, often, ripples through other parts of your business. There’s a better way.

There’s a Better Way

Mitigate the risk of IT-related employee turnover by taking on managed IT services. You avoid the potential for losing high-value employees, but you still have a full team at your disposal. Not only do you get an entire team, but that team is ready to take on multiple challenges faced in information technology for one price.

If you’re worried about employee turnover on your IT team, rest easy. With managed IT services, like the ones offered by OneSupport, your company has 24/7 support. You gain access to a team of highly trained, dedicated professionals but avoid the risks of losing continuity due to employee turnover. Work at home jobs have become increasingly more common over the past few years. With this rise in people searching for work at home opportunities, there has also been a rise in work at home scams. Spotting a work at home scam quickly could save you valuable time and even money.

The Opportunity Seems Too Good to Be True

Often times during a job search, you may come across a listing that feels too good to be true. If it feels that way, it probably is. Work at home positions are no exception. If a company is promising to pay much higher than typical for that position or offering to provide you with expensive high-end computers or equipment, chances are this is a work at home scam.

A legitimate opportunity might come with a special phone or computer software that is required for the job but the big items will likely be left up to the employee.

Most work at home positions will require that you already have the right computer or other equipment like webcams headsets. A lot of companies moving to work at home are doing so to cut down on their costs so chances are small that they want to buy you a brand new iMac Pro to work an entry-level position.

Work At Home Scams May Ask for Money Upfront

If you find that you’ve “landed” your job but they tell you that you need to send them money, for any reason, this is almost certainly a scam. Think about it, they’re supposed to be paying you, not the other way around.

Another increasing common tactic is posing as legitimate businesses or business executives on social media. Scammers will go out and find real business and set up an account that looks almost identical. Alternately, they’ll find profiles of executives and spoof those. After they’ve created the profile they’ll begin preying on job seekers.

Often these scammers will join groups where people look for jobs. They’ll begin chatting and then offer a job via Facebook. At this time many will say that they need your banking info (for direct deposit) in reality, they’re stealing your information. When you get hired for a new job, the HR dept should send you documents to fill out, sign, and send back. Not through Facebook.

Ask Some Questions

One of the best ways to gauge whether you’re dealing with work at home scams is by asking some questions. If the person offering a job is not able to answer some pretty standard questions, chances are this is not real. Also, you should be able to ask these questions via phone or video call, not just over a chat server. Not speaking to someone directly is a good indication you’re being scammed.

Have the company’s website up to verify as much of this information as you can but also pay attention to how long it takes the person to answer. If they seemed stumped by simple questions that most employees, especially recruiters, would know, that’s not a good sign. Here are some good questions to ask to help you determine the legitimacy but also get to know the company a bit more:

  • Where is the company based?
    • This should be a quick and simple answer the recruiter/rep knows off the top of their head.
  • How long have you worked for the company?
    • This one is easier to lie about but use follow-ups.
  • What other positions have you held at the company
    • A simple follow up to employment time, but it’s harder to make up the answer.
  • What is your favorite thing about working there?
    • Again, this should be an easy answer. Even if it’s not a work at home scam the person not answering quickly it might be a red flag about the working conditions or culture.
  • How long have they been offering work at home opportunities?
    • This one may be a little trickier to verify and for the employee to answer if they’re not a long-time employee. It will give you an idea of how many WAH processes should already be in place.
  • How does most communication happen between employees and their supervisors?
    • This is especially important if you’re speaking with someone on an a-typical platform like Facebook or even LinkedIn.
  • What kind of system requirements are there to work remotely?
    • This question is a great indication of the legitimacy of the person you’re speaking with. Recruiters know what the system requirements are. More often than not they will check this with you during the first interview. Working remotely usually requires remote tools and VPNs so the company will want to be sure you can meet the minimum standards.
Not All Work At Home Jobs are Scams

Most importantly, trust your gut. It’s easy to get swept up, especially when you’re really in need of employment. If something seems off, do your best to investigate or walk away completely. If you’re on the fence but really interested in the job, find some employees on LinkedIn and reach out to them. Ask them about their experiences and the hiring process.

There are a lot of legitimate work from home positions out there. OneSupport currently hires work at home employees out of 20 different states. Many companies are starting to offer more and more opportunities to work remotely. Just make sure you pick a reputable company. Doing your research first might save you a big headache later.

Microsoft boasts some of the most recognizable and widely used software in the world. In the 90s programs like Word and Excel helped the company become a business and educational staple. Today the company is still a major player for businesses and consumers alike but with a twist. Cloud-based OneDrive and subscription-based Office 365 are helping Microsoft retain their customer base. As widely known as the program is, there are plenty of Office 365 special features that contribute to the enduring popularity of the suite.

OneDrive Is the Hardest-Working Office 365 Special Feature

One of the best special features of Office 365 is 50GB of OneDrive space that comes with your subscription. OneDrive makes it quick and easy to access all of your documents and files from anywhere with an internet connection. With 50GB of space included and upgrades available should you choose to buy more space, it’s unlikely that you’ll run out of room any time soon.

Remember the days when you’d sit down at your computer and hammer out your report or maybe a paper for school. If you were mindful, you’d save periodically in an effort not to lose hours of work. Sometimes, however, when you find yourself “in the zone” as it were, you spend hours typing away or putting equations into Excel then the unthinkable would happen, the power would go out, or maybe your computer would give you the dreaded blue screen of death. Just like that, hours of your life gone with nothing to show.

With Office 365 that worry is mostly gone (look, nothing is ever 100% certain). The Office 365 suite and OneDrive sync seamlessly with one another to save (directly to the cloud) as you go. Next time the power goes out or your computer decides to take an unauthorized nap, your moment of panic can be just that, a moment, rather than an agonizing 5 minutes waiting for your family’s old desktop to boot back up.

Sync to the Cloud, Sync With Your Team

A lot of the special features in Office 365 aren’t always noticeable, but once you learn them, you won’t go back. With offline compatibility, you can work on any project offline. The changes are updated once reconnect. You save the document to your computer, and as soon as you’re back online, the changes are saved to the cloud as well.

When it comes to doing actual work, one of the most useful features is the editing abilities. When synced up to a network or the internet, you can edit files in real time and collaborate in real time on Word, Excel, and nearly all the other file formats in the Office 365 suite. You can even see the edits being made by other people as they’re typing them. If you’re scared of losing your original notes, version control makes sure that the original file never disappears.

Collaborate, Create, Integrate

If you have your suite updated, you can chat with others on projects using Skype without having to leave the application you’re using. Share screens, chat, and talk to whoever you are working with. Need to leave your computer? No problem! You can continue talking over Skype after you leave your desk.

The Office 365 email will probably be the lock and key to your work life. With 50GB email storage and crossover features with other programs productivity is at your fingertips. One of the coolest features the email system is the de-clutter button. This feature goes through your inbox and helps you get to the elusive inbox “zero.” Don’t worry, this feature also helps ensure you don’t miss important messages.

Remember, if you need help with technology, OneSupport is standing by. Give one of our friendly, well trained, 100% U.S. based agents a call today 844-818-3415.

Support for Microsoft’s enormously popular Windows 7 is coming to an end. The company plans to stop supporting Windows 7 entirely in January 2020. Not only will this affect millions of consumers, but it also stands to have a significant impact on businesses around the world. Businesses should upgrade to Windows 10 before they face the security threats associated with running an unsupported OS.

Upgrade to Windows 10 to Keep Your Business Secure

When Microsoft stops supporting a version of Windows, they stop rolling out updates. While most people see those updates as a pesky time-sucker, they serve an essential purpose. Updates are rolled out with patches for security issues to help keep users as secure as possible. While it’s feasible for consumers to use an outdated OS and run powerful security software, this is not enough for businesses.

Office didn’t become one of the biggest end-user platforms in the world by neglecting security threats. Likewise, your business can’t thrive by ignoring security risks. You stand to put not only your company but your clients at risk. The safest thing for any business still using Windows 7 to is to upgrade to Windows 10 before the end of support date.

Move to MS 365

It’s time for your company to move away from Windows 7, but that doesn’t mean go out and buy a new software suite. Before you make a significant, upfront purchase, consider Microsoft 365. MS 365 is a subscription-based software, meaning you pay a monthly fee per user. 365 is also cloud based so you, and your employees can work from anywhere with internet.

Switching to MS 365 means you’ll get a full upgrade to Windows 10, encrypted email, and the convenience of not being tied to your office. Since all of the apps are cloud-based, you and your employees can work from anywhere with internet. Cloud-based apps also make it easier to collaborate from wherever your day takes you.

Skip the Stress, Upgrade Early

You get used to a tool or software; you come to rely on it, then it changes. Change is hard, but it doesn’t have to be bad. When you upgrade to Windows 10 or switch to Microsoft 365, it opens new doors to creativity, collaboration, and success. If you’re ready to make the switch, give OneSupport a call at 877-588-7497. OneSupport offers cloud solutions, managed IT, and proactive AV. For more information, schedule a demo or request a quote from one of our friendly, 100% U.S. based business specialists today.

Every few years Microsoft rolls out a new version of Windows. Some of those versions end up being duds (think Vista and Millenium) and some of them gain a cult-like following like XP and the quickly approaching its end of life, Windows 7. Microsoft has announced that they will stop supporting and rolling out security patches for Windows 7 as of January 2020. This means you either need to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 or you need to have some serious security software on your computer. Why You Need to Upgrade Windows 7

As the end of life for Windows 7 approaches, you might be wondering if you really need to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10. If you leave Windows 7 on your machine, it will still function. Microsoft, however, will not be rolling out any more security patches or updates for the operating system. This means your computer will not be as secure as it would if you upgrade.

“Hackers” make their living by creating new malware to exploit weaknesses within specific software. Windows 7 currently accounts for about ⅓ of Windows users, and many are reluctant to upgrade. This means its only a matter of time for malware that will target machines that did not upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10. Your computer will be easily compromised once we reach the end of life for Windows 7.

End of Life for Windows 7 Doesn’t Mean the End of the World

Some machines do not have the room on their hard drive to upgrade Windows7. You can make space on your hard drive by removing files you don’t need and moving important files to an external hard drive or cloud-based storage like Google Drive. If this doesn’t free up enough space or you do not want to upgrade windows 7, you need robust security software.

When Microsoft rolls out Windows updates, often those updates include patches for security issues that leave users vulnerable. Without these patches, malware and hackers can easily find “backdoors” into your machine. If you’re going to continue to run Windows 7, you need proactive virus protection that scans your computer in real time.

Whether or not you choose to upgrade, OneSupport can help you navigate the end of life for Windows 7. They can help you through making space on your hard drive, upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and install OneSecurity on your machine, so you know your computer is always protected, regardless of what version of Windows you choose to run. The countdown is on, its time to make your choice.

What is Bixby and how difficult is it to remap Bixby to Google Assistant? Well, let’s first try to understand a little bit about the new AI agent.

The feud between Apple and Google continues to be disrupted by Samsung. With Apple offering Siri and Google offering Google Assistant, the new Samsung AI agent joins other competitors, such as Alexa and Cortana, to take on the two well-known AI tech giants.

As an AI system, Bixby is designed to make communication on your device simpler. Designed specially for Samsung products, it first launched on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8 devices. Created to text, gather information, make preset calls; it appears like just another AI agent. Added features that create its uniqueness include adapted voice recognition, which allows for the use of incomplete sentence structures, a single solution to carry out numerous actions, by using their one touch function, and integration into a plethora of different products.

Familiarization is crucial in optimizing its use but what about remapping Bixby? It sounds complicated but it’s pretty simple to accomplish.

How to Remap Bixby to Google Assistant

Heads up, Samsung has blacklisted all other AI agents, therefore making things a little more difficult. Luckily, there’s a way. Previously, you could remap the Bixby button, but these days it’s going to take a little more help.

  1. Download the Bixby Button Assistant Remapper APK from here
  2. Install the application on to your device
  3. Head over to settings > Bixby Voice Settings
  4. Click on the Bixby Key
  5. Choose Double press to launch Bixby
  6. Click on Use single press
  7. Toggle the button to on and click the gear icon to use an app
  8. Click on the physical Bixby Button Assistant Remapper
  9. Select Google and pick “Always” for permanent mapping
  10. You’ve done it!
Quick Command Remapping

Now, for those who would rather skip the required app setup, you can set up a Bixby quick command. The previous method is highly recommended but if you find yourself wanting to try an alternate way, here’s another option that works well, but with varying results.

  1. Open up Bixby Voice
  2. Go to Quick Commands from the dropdown menu
  3. Create a new Quick command as “Assistant”
  4. Set the command word to “Assistant”
  5. Click “Type a command”
  6. Type in “open assistant”
  7. Save the quick command
  8. Go back to Bixby Voice Settings
  9. Select Bixby Key
  10. Double press to open Bixby
  11. Select Quick Command
  12. Head to Quick Command options and select “Assistant”
  13. Finished!
Enjoy Your Devices

Hopefully, you have success with one of these methods. Samsung is allowing users to remap the button on their devices and that’s nothing to brush off. Unfortunately, you can’t completely get rid of Bixby; you can still put your preferred app ahead. Best of luck remapping Bixby and make the most of it!

If you need help with your devices, OneSupport can help. OneSupport’s 100% U.S. based agents are standing by 24/7 to assist you with all of your tech support needs. Give them a call at 844-818-3415 or live chat with an agent today.

Google Docs can do almost everything that Microsoft Word can do and it’s free. It’s sleek, easy to use and packed to the brim with cool and unique features. Unfortunately, most of these cool features are not always the easiest to find, but once you do, you’ll never go back.

How Google Docs Differs from Microsoft Office

From the second you open Google Docs you get tons of templates for resumes, proposals, graphics, and more that are free for you to use. You can even look on the internet for more of the easy to customize templates to give you an upper hand from the start.

One of the most notable differences from Word is the number of fonts. Google Docs has all the classics, but the library isn’t nearly as expansive. That shouldn’t be too much of a problem as you can add fonts from the internet simply by clicking the font tab at the top.

Another difference you may notice is mobile access. With Google Docs, as long as you have your google account connected to your phone and have Google Docs and Google Drive downloaded, you have access to your documents anywhere you have internet. Simply open the document you’re working on and click the edit icon (a blue circle with a white pencil in it) in the lower right-hand corner and get to work!

Two Heads are Better than One

One of the most useful features is that you can easily share your document for editing with other people. You can choose whether the person looking at the document can view, edit, or comment whenever you share the file and you can also click on the pen in the top right-hand corner to suggest edits when you are looking at someone else’s Google Doc.

Google Docs is similar to Word in that pretty much everything you can do has a keyboard shortcut to go along with it. To change the font size you can hold Ctrl and press the period or comma key to make it go up or down by a point. You can clear formatting from other sources by Ctrl plus backslash (\) or format text by pressing Ctrl plus B, I, or U to bold, italicize, or underline, respectively.

Speech to Text is Here

Some of the cooler features you can use include the speech to text typing tool. Found under the tools header or using Ctrl+Shift+S, you can skip out on typing entirely and give your hand a break while still finishing your work on time. This feature is similar to voice to text on your phone letting you say “period” or “comma” and more punctuation when speaking and formatting like “new line” or “new paragraph.” When you need to stop for a bit, you can tell Google Docs to “stop listening” and then “resume” when you are good to go.

Another cool feature to use while you’re typing away is the Explore feature that allows you to google topics and pictures to use. You can look up pretty much anything you can find on Google and then some by being able to search your own Google Docs. To use this feature you can just look under the Tools tab or press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+i.

But Wait, There’s More!

However, there are probably some things that you may be curious about that are not covered here. Simply press Alt+/ to easily look up all of Google Doc’s functions without having to go to Google.com. If you want, you can also look at the Help tab at the top.

At the end of the day, you can even add add-ons to customize your Google Docs the way you need them to be. You can add tools to help you translate, add signatures, do extra formatting, and more. Simply go to the Add-ons tab at the top and press get add-ons.

Google Docs can help you have it all, you just need to learn the ropes and the rest comes easy. If you need help with your Google Docs, or any other technology, turn to OneSupport. OneSupport’s 100% U.S. based agents are available 24/7 at 844-818-34115 or via live chat.
