these are my chicago city dwelling friends everyone.
when an engagement shoot is basically just hanging out with your friends for the day, adventureing through downtown, im into it. exploring new back alleys in a city you've been to a million times is the most inspiring. these two inspire me. wait till you see amys vision for her michigan bohemian backyard camp forest wedding. yes. it will be all those things and more.
Samantha + Cameron | chicago, illinoiselopement. just the three of us. the whole lincoln park conservatory to ourselves at sunset. excitement.anticipation.joy.this was my very first true elopement i have had the opportunity to document and i cant imagine a better venue or couple to do it with. it just felt different. there was a calm that took over the conservatory as the said their vows to each other. a surprise old text message that the other didnt know they saved. talking about their future. it was intimate. it was special. it was raw. it was real.just the two of them because each other was all they needed.
an elopement doesnt have to be to some magical land far far away (however if you are going to iceland, or greece or something i definitely wont oppose)...it can be right in your backyard. the smaller the better in my book. no frills, just the people most special to you in a place that hits close to home. its your wedding day. make it special to you.
there is nothing better than a unique wedding venue and the scarab club definitely qualifies. the detroit scarab club was founded by a group of artists and art lovers who wanted a place to socialize and disucss art! i mean come on. is there anything cooler than that?! like speak to my artist soul please!! the inside is a blast from the past and transports you to another era, which i am totally in to and the back has the most adorable courtyard!! detroit is surrounded by so much art and culture and is such an inspiring atmosphere to create images in!
take one look at Rachaels vibrant and whimsical bouquet for her Kalamazoo Nature Center wedding and its like you have been transported to an Alice in Wonderland novel. rounding off the bohemian vibe was a greenery filled flower crown, jewel toned bridesmaid dresses, and brass glass boxes for details.
Rachael and Lukes outdoor michigan ceremony felt like it was out of a fairy tale forest. surrounded by their closest family and friends, these two embraced the nature around them. you couldnt help but feel like you were in your own magical world.
kayla + matt | peoria, ILone of the things i am most grateful for are clients who trust me. like truly truly, i take you into a run down back alley warehouse place for couples portraits and you say lets do it, kind of trust. industrial, janky, non-traditional...thats my love language. there are so many things people will tell you should do on your wedding day, but i say do your own thang honey! kayla and matt are two of the most genuine people i have ever met. people that become instant friends. they are infectious. i could say a million good things about these two. they fit each other like a glove. every moment of their day was something special and yes i cried so you know it was good. its always the dads. they just get me!
jennys vision was to have an art deco inspired wedding at the historic downtown detroit masonic temple and let me tell you she did not disappoint. from her banging headpiece down to her vibrant blue pumps she looked like she stepped right out of another era.
the whole day felt like I was transported to another time period and you all know how much I love historic architecture! detroit a chalk full of history and I love being able to explore the little nooks and cranys of this amazing city.
it’s sad that i grew up 20 mins outside of detroit but have never really shot there. being down there tho... the architecture, the murals, the art, the back alleys...they call my name. detroit's eastern market and belt z lot is chalk full of beautiful artwork and it really inspires me to couple others work with living breathing people through my photography. give me all the textured industrial and vibrant walls and i am one happy camper.
this session in particular is super special for me. matthew is my cousin. he was my very first friend. my partner in family reunion spy missions and late night dill pickle stealing operations from grandmas fridge. it feels really great to be able to gift the people i love memories that will last for ever and to be apart of such milestones in their life.
this baker loft wedding in holland michigan was full of those.
as a photographer I get to share many moments with couples that no one else gets to see or experience. moments that the bride and groom may not have even noticed themselves.
...like hunter mouthing "you look beautiful" to his bride as she waits to be given away by her father. or him sitting on the edge of the back seat trying to be as close to gabrielle in the front seat as he can as I drive them around for portraits.
I will never take these flashes in time for granted. its not the wedding days I remember but the moments shared with my couples on the best day of their lives.
sarah + rick | elburn, illinoisthis Heritage Prairie Farm Rustic Vintage Wedding was a special one for me. I was sarahs studio assistant when I was living in chicago and she is an amazingly talented family photographer so the pressure was on! one of my favorite things about sarah is she is so thoughtful. when it came time for my birthday or christmas I always knew I was in for a treat. not only are her gifts so incredibly meaningful, her gift wrapping is impeccable as well, and let me tell you, I am a sucker for good packaging! so I basically knew for a fact her wedding details were going to be nothing short of amazing and that they were!sarah and rick dated for a longgg time before rick popped the question. we always joke that it took him long enough, but nothing could be more perfect on their wedding day. from the personalized rustic invitations to the vintage china table settings, there was nothing missing from this intimate barn wedding. I am always so grateful clients that turn into friends, but there is something special about friends who turn into clients.ps please all take a second and swoon over the back of sarahs dress. I mean come onnn!!pps if you are in the chicago area and in the market for some studio family photos, check out sarahs studio: Wildwood Photography
alyson + brian | grand rapids, michiganindustrial. as soon as that word is uttered during a client call my heart starts to flutter. its like they are speaking my love language! we've only lived in grand rapids, michigan for about a year and i have loved every second of exploring the industrial urban areas of the city....and can we just talk about how in love alyson and brian are? these two bid on a session with me at a 3:11 Youth Housing fundraiser here in grand rapids and i am so stinking glad they did. there was one point during their where i told them to walk toward each other and hug like they havent seen each other for a whole month...and let me tell you, alyson sprinted to brian and leaped into his arms and embraced him so hard! it was presh. those are my kind of people. people who cant keep their hands off each other. people that just gush love from their insides. seeing the little looks they steal of each other you just know they were meant to spend forever together.
