There are certain fashion rules plus-size women have been told to follow since decades. You know the ones. "Plus-size women can't wear bright colors." "Plus-size women can't wear anything that shows some thigh." "Plus-size women must only wear baggy, shapeless garbage bags and hide every curve and roll on their bodies." I am here to break all those rules and more.
I do believe that anyone can wear anything that they want and can make any trend work for them as long as they choose correctly. I recently did a photo-shoot showcasing 5 things fat/plus-size women are advised to avoid wearing and here are the results!
1. "You can't wear bold prints"
A major plus-size fashion "rule" for as long as I can remember has been "stay away from bold prints! People will see you too much!" This is what I think of it - Your clothes don't make you look fat, your fat makes you look fat. So, you might as well rock that print instead of a boring basic piece of clothing.
Here, I am wearing a gorgeous red playsuit with a floral print that I found at New Look.
2. "You can't wear bright/light colors"
Remember that scene in K3G when Kareena tells Kajol, "Black makes me look thin and green makes you look fat!"? Yeah, that was some real shade back in the early 2000s and right out of the fat girl rule-book.
Personally, I think black can be a very sexy color for a night out, but what's life without a little color? I am all about the color. More rainbows and unicorns, please!
Here I am wearing a pastel blue co-ordinate set from Forever 21 Plus and the jacket is from Namshi.com. I decided to pair the look with magenta earrings from H&M and this adorbs head scarf to make the look perfect for Summer!
I will keep updating this blog post in the week with more looks xx
3. You can't wear crop tops
If only I could tell you how long I took to buy this outfit. I was in the trial room staring at myself in the mirror for at least 30 minutes and wondering if I can pull it off. And then I thought to myself, who the hell cares? Not me! I know crop tops are a big no-no when it comes to fashion there is no such thing as a no-no.
4. You can't wear short shorts
Okay, I will be real here. This was an easy category to pull off for me cause I have always been comfortable with wearing shorts/short dresses and showing off my legs. However, I do understand that many girls struggle with pulling off short hemlines because of cellulite or the size of their thighs. FYI: Even Kim Kardashian has cellulite. Case closed.
5. You can't wear sleeveless.
From the category I stuggled with the least to the category I struggled with the most. I can sit here and pretend like I am happy and confident about all of me all the time, but that is simply not true. I have always struggled when it comes to wearing sleeveless and my arms have always made me very conscious. However, some outfits go from fabulous to granny like as soon as you put a jacket on and this beautiful co-ord set was one of them!
Ciara once famously said, "if you've got the eyebrow right, you're good with wearing no makeup at all." And I couldn't agree more with her! Brows, if done right, can completely transform your look and frame your face. Done wrong, they can make you look perpetually surprised.
I don't have extremely sparse brows, but they aren't as full as I would like them to be. Over the years, I have tried and tested many products for a full proof brow that won't budge and found three that work wonders. My life may not always have structure, but thanks to these products, my brows always do!
1. NYX | 3 in 1 Brow Pencil (My shade: Ash Brown)
My go to brow product! This is a multipurpose eyebrow tool featuring a retractable pencil, powder, and brow mascara and boy, does it work. I love it because with just one product you can layer your eyebrows starting with pencil, following it up with powder and finishing up with mascara. All three textures work beautifully with each other to create the perfect brow, especially for pictures. Trust me, these brows ain't going ANYWHERE.
Benefit always kills it with the packaging and KA-BROW! is no different. Aside from the fact that the top of the product magically transforms into a full sized eyebrow brush, the cream/gel/pomade like product is actually amazing. I haven't tested out the claim that this product lasts for 24 hours, but I have worn it to the pool and can assure you - no one will know what lies under those perfectly done brows!
You know what I love about eyebrows? They're the one thing you can get into shape without exercising. And nothing makes defining and shaping your brows easier than ABH's Brow Definer. This product is not very long lasting and definitely needs to be set with powder/brow gel, but it is perfect because of how easy it makes to shape your brows, the variety of shades it comes in and how easy it is to toss in your bag for a quick touch up throughout the day.
When I hear the words "strapless bra," I can't hide my terror. I cannot count the number of days I have spent constantly pulling at my bra to stop it from falling down (NOT CUTE). The struggle is real, but with so many cute Bardot dresses and off-shoulder tops out there, finding a good strapless bra is simply mandatory.
Did you know 80% of the women are wearing the wrong bra size? And up until a few days ago, I was a part of those 80% women. However, getting a bra fitting from TKD Lingerie – the first lingerie store in the UAE exclusively for women with a bigger bust – changed my life!
Here's what I learned from my bra fitting:
1. Your bra band should neither be too tight, nor too loose.
2. The center of your bra should lay flat, in between your boobs, against your body. If the center of your bra is lifted off your chest, it is the wrong size.
3. If your straps keep falling down, you are wearing the wrong bra size.
4. The cups of your bra should hold your boobs fully. If there is space between the cup and the boob, you are wearing the wrong size.
After trying over 4 bras, I finally chose the Luxe Black Strapless Bra (AED 255) by a brand called Curvy Kate. Guys, this bra is magic. I wore it under an off shoulder top(pictured below) for a ten hour shoot day and guess how many times I had to readjust my bra? ZERO!
In addition to carrying bra sizes from D-K cup, TKD Lingerie carries a wide range of plus size swimwear from awesome brands like Curvy Kate Swim, Audelle Swim, Cleo and more. Here are two super-cute swimsuits that I picked up from TKD.
Here's to never having to adjust your bra in public again!
Their store is located in Town Center Mall in Jumeriah and here is a link to their IG page; check them out xx
Hi guys! So ever since the National Media Council in Dubai announced that all Influencers who monetize from their social media accounts and/or blogs need to have a valid media license - there have been SOOOO many questions and what not
As someone who is in the blogger space and also in PR, I am still trying to find out the exact details and gather as much as information as I can. Anyway, today I attended the #ITPLiveSummit which basically had industry experts as panelists talking about the world of influencing as well as what the new law means for us. Here are a few key pointers I gathered
What is the cost and validity of the license?
- Approximately AED 15,000 and it needs to be renewed annually.
Do influencers represented by agencies also need licenses?
- YES! even though the brand is hiring an agency to recruit influencers, the influencer still needs a license
I don't take any money for my reviews and posts. I just do barter deals in exchange for restaurant visits, hotel stay cays etc. Do I need a license?
- YES! For any exchange, be it money or products, you still need a LICENSE!
PS This will make the lives of PR VERY HARD =[
I am a Dubai based influencer but I am doing a paid project with a company overseas for promotions that are happening outside of the UAE. Do I need a license?
- YES! Because you will still be invoicing them from here
Does the rule apply to International Influencers?
- No, this only applies to residents of the UAE
If an agency recruits an influencer for a brand and the content published is against the laws, who is liable for this?
- The social media account that has uploaded inappropriate content or content that is against the law (alcohol, drugs, cyber dating etc) will be punished. If there is proof that the agency has dictated the messaging, then both may be liable.
Do we need to declare when being paid by a brand?
- It is ideal to be transparent to the consumer. It is actually a requirement by law to declare paid partnerships.
PS Some industry experts also said that they have seen little to no effect (negative) when an influencer declares the paid partnership with a brand
What happens if I have continue blogging without a license?
- Well for one, your peers would complain about you to take you down and there could be fines etc
I JUST WANT TO ADD - I know all of the above only from the summit I attended today. I have a million more questions which I hope I get an answer to soon so I can share with you all
Please feel free to leave comments below with any questions and if their answers were discussed during the summit - I will let you all know xx
You know a girl can never have enough pampering sessions! And more so after a holiday. I got back from Sri Lanka yesterday and went into the perfect me-time spa session today at the newly opened Luban Spa in Umm Suqeim, which actually is the only spa in the region to feature the precious Omani frankincense in all of its body rituals
Firstly, let me tell you the place is STUNNING! The feel of the spa is so luxurious and there are small details which really give you a sense of the Omani culture. Things like the small articrafts in the relaxation area or the bukhoor you smell when you enter or even the bathroom accessories. Its all really pretty and soothing
I went in for a 90 minute treatment called ‘Yuletide’ which is something they have specially curated for the festive season. You start with a 30 minute scrub, followed by a 30 minute back or foot massage and finally an Elemis facial, all targeted to leave you feeling energized, radiant and looking picture-perfect before you hit the next party! The scrub is made of refreshing ingredients of green tea and frankincense to help calm and reduce redness, revealing radiant and creamy silk soft skin.
That's me glowing after my facial haha! My therapist for the day was Zainab and she took great care of me. I think this is a great gift idea or even something you can get for yourself, if you have a lot of dinners, events and gatherings in the beautiful month of December. The offer is valid till 31st December so hurry up!
