Moving is not just difficult, it’s also costly, especially if you are not paying attention to the details of the move as well as the expenses. To avoid getting surprised by the total cost after the move is over, moveON moving will share with you some wise tips on how to keep your costs within budget and under control. These are the tips on how to save money when you plan on moving.

Plan your move accordingly.

There are two important things to consider before you move: (1) plan the move ahead of time and (2) hire an expert moving company.

If you plan on relocating or moving your business to another location, it’s best to schedule the move during the off-season like fall and winter since the moving rates in this season are lowest and movers are only a few due to the holiday season.

Next, make sure the moving company knows what you need. Have them visit your office or house earlier and make an estimate of the cost. Also, check if they can answer all your questions and they easily respond right away. Those who asks for an up-front fee or can’t give you a written estimate right away should be avoided.

Preparing your things for relocation.

In reality, you really don’t need to bring everything with you when you move. So before you actually start moving your stuff, go over them and take an honest look to see which things you could bring or leave, or even sell. Remember, you want to move as few things as possible else you’ll be charged a bit higher because of the weight.

Here are some good questions you can ask yourself when evaluating which items should stay and which ones should go.

  1. “Do I need it?” and “How often do I use it every day?”

Look at each of your items carefully and make a decision whether you need it or don’t. If you don’t often use it every day, then it means it’s not that important. Also, look for things that you can sell for extra cash either on Amazon, Ebay, Craiglist or in a consignment store.

For preloved items like clothes, small furniture, etc., you can organize a garage sale or if you can’t sell them, you can donate it to someone who will use it. Otherwise, if the item is really old and broken, just put it in the garbage bin. Remember, the profit that you’ll make by selling these old items can offset your move budget.

  1. “Is it cheaper to move the item or can I buy another one at the new location?”

This rule applies to old furniture and appliances. Sometimes, the cost of moving some items is almost the same as buying a new one. So if you have an old sofa that you think is time to be replaced, then use this opportunity not to move it and just buy another one at your new location.

  1. “Can I sell the item along with the property and leave it for the next tenant?”

There are just some things that go along with the property or a house like shelving, corner modules, rugs (or carpets), freestanding bars, backyard furniture and so on. Find out if you can get a little extra from your buyers or landlord for leaving them in place or just honestly tell them that these things would no longer fit in your new house or office that’s why you’ll leave them.

  1. Throw away dangerous items.

Flammable items such as stored oil, gasoline, aerosols, pesticides and other chemicals are best discarded since moving them might cause unprecedented harm to you and your group. Wall paints can stay at the old place in case your buyers want to do some improvement to the place.

    1. Use old boxes from grocery stores and big box stores. Websites like craigslist and freecycle.org occasionally posts, moving boxes for sale, so you better check them out too.
    2. Use old magazines, newspapers and cloth like rugs, towels as substitute. Buying bubble wraps and peanuts can be expensive, so just take out all those old newspapers, magazines, coloring books, gift wrappers and tear them into small pieces. For items that could break, you can use sheets, towels and rags to protect them.
    3. Make sure to pack everything carefully to avoid breakage and damages. No damages mean no extra expenses on replacement.

Further tips on how to save extra money on your move

Tax Dues – Applicable to businesses and commercial establishments, remember to keep receipts and check with your CPA which items can save you a little extra money. This includes the following:

      • Anything you donate.
      • Travel costs, especially for long distance moves. Keep receipts from gas, hotel accommodation, food expense and so on.
      • Move expenses like the charge for the mover, truck rental and supplies.

Insurance – Don’t forget to check your insurer for items that are covered by travel insurance. Consider getting an affordable move insurance for items which are important but don’t have travel insurance. Also, keep in mind to take full inventory of your items since you’ll need that in case of a claim.

Deposits – Monitor and take back any deposits you are owed from the old place such as rental deposits, utilities and so on.

Interstate – For long distance move, always plan your relocation ahead of time. Map the route, book for inexpensive accommodations and reserve a truck in advance. Also, determining how many and who will come with you can help you save on your budget. Don’t forget to check for move specials or discounts.

Not sure where to start in Las Vegas? The world-famous Sin City is full of everything from crazy clubs and ravishing restaurants to the best you could ask for in music and entertainment. Whether you’re hitting the Strip, the gambling floor, or the outdoors, Las Vegas has something for everyone. Whether it’s a day in the sun or a night on the town you desire, here are the best things Las Vegas has to offer.

  1. Take in a concert from your favorite artist in a spectacular setting.

With all of the attention received by its famous clubs, resorts and entertainment venues, Vegas is able to attract top-flight music talent year-round. With so many opportunities for amazement available, you’ll find the hardest trick is to stop after one.

  1. Take a peek at the risqué and tantalizing burlesque scene.

Perhaps not surprising for a place nicknamed the Sin City, but Las Vegas also boasts an impressive and salacious burlesque scene. Take a run in the risqué and slink into one of many nightclubs downtown to enjoy acts like the Electric Candy burlesque troupe or Vivica’s Black Magic. It’s okay to treat yourself to temptation for a night—you are in the Sin City, after all.

  1. Take in all the sights from the best viewpoint—the High Roller.

Want to enjoy the sights of the Strip without all of the sounds? Get the best view in town on the High Roller, an observational Ferris wheel that takes visitors 550 feet above the Strip, offering a spectacular 360-degree view of the heart of Las Vegas. The bustle of everything Vegas has to offer can get a bit hectic, why not take a refreshing step back and appreciate it all, nestled perfectly in the center of a stunning desert backdrop?

  1. Get your sweet tooth on at the Sugar Factory.

Wanna eat sweets and look sweet too? The Sugar Factory blends fashion and confectionary to offer guests an array of edible accessories. You can make your choice between what looks best and what tastes best, and mull over the hard decisions over food, dessert, or any of the specialty cocktails also offered by the Factory. 1. Learn about the secret history of Nevada.

Are you a history buff? Why not make more gains while you’re out in Vegas? The city offers a few unique history museums, including the National Atomic Testing Museum and the Erotic Heritage Museum. It only follows that a special city would offer specialty food for thought. Dig in!

  1. Get a look at the finest art in the region.

In addition to history, Vegas also boasts quite a few art museums, such as the Neon Museum and the Gallery of Fine Art at the Bellagio. Both make for a refreshing break for the eye among all the flashing lights and spectacular sights of the Strip.

  1. Explore the underrated natural beauty of Southern Nevada.

Get away from the city for a day and check out the Spring Preserve! The 180-acre reserve features botanical gardens and a trails system through a scenic wetlands area, in addition to small museums, galleries and outdoor events. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty and gain a greater appreciation for how Vegas began.

  1. Take your chance at one of Vegas’s legendary casinos.

I mean… you knew we had to include this, right? It may be cliché, but what’s a trip to Vegas without a dalliance with Lady Luck? The Pallazzo, the Bellagio, Planet Hollywood, MGM… try one or try them all. When you come to Vegas, you’ve got to give it a chance.

Aside from the usual local and international tourists, several people come to Las Vegas to live as permanent locals. New job opportunities, affordable housing options, business opportunities, etc., are just some of the reasons why they move to Las Vegas from Los Angeles and other cities in Southern California. Furthermore, this city is quite close to Southern California and is also a big job center. Those who leave the Golden State looking for better opportunities normally move to Las Vegas.

There are several reasons why people are drawn to Vegas. Year-round sunny weather, abundant entertainment and local attractions; affordable housing, low taxes and so much more!

Los Angeles and Las Vegas are just a few hundred miles away from each other. In fact, a lot of residents from both areas travel back and forth between each other all the time. And why not? These two states have a lot of things in common like the warm climate and friendly culture.

14 Reasons to Move from Los Angeles to Las Vegas
  1. The climate is much hotter in Las Vegas. Las Vegas is situated in a dry, desert valley, so summers here are a lot hotter. Los Angeles on the other hand, enjoys the California sunshine with a bit of a cool breeze that comes from the Pacific Ocean. Also, you should know that temperatures in Vegas can reach to over 100 degrees in the summer and can last for several weeks. But, if it isn’t summer, you can enjoy the fine sunny weather here almost every day, which is perfect for those who love to go and try out some outdoor activities and leisure.
  2. Las Vegas has less natural disasters. In California, it’s common to hear about wildfires and earthquakes, but not here in Las Vegas.
  3. The air is warm and dry in Las Vegas. The climate in Las Vegas is mostly hot and dry. Unless you’re living in Palm Springs, you’ll need some time to adapt to the warm and dry air here. Those who came from the coastal areas often get the infamous “Vegas Throat”, which results to dry cough caused by the lack of moisture in the air. But don’t worry, this isn’t serious. It’s just the way your body adapts to the new environment. Adding a small humidifier in your room will make you feel better in no time.
  4. Las Vegas has no Personal Income Tax. Generally speaking, the whole state of Nevada does not impose Income Taxes. Since housing prices here are relatively cheaper, property taxes can also be quite reasonable. So how is that possible? Well, it’s all thanks to the tourists who come here daily and pay certain taxes like resort fees and sales tax, whenever they visit the casinos, hotels and other business establishments here. Las Vegas is a great place for businesses since business taxes are barely anything and regulations are almost nonexistent as compared to California.
  5. Affordable Housing Options. In Las Vegas, it’s easy to find a budget house or apartment. Compared to California, you can get a bargain on housing or rent a 2-bedroom apartment in the suburbs for under $1,000 a month. Purchasing real estate here is surely a lot more affordable. You can even buy a brand-new house for around $200,000 here.
  6. Cost of living is a bit expensive in Las Vegas. Though you won’t need to pay for your income tax, the cost of living here can be a bit high due to the prices of food, gas and other utilities plus regular expenses. Running your air conditioner in the summer is a big expense costing homeowners anywhere from $200 – $400 in July and August.
  7. Water is scarce in Las Vegas. The city is located in a dry, desert area, it’s natural that locals would discourage the excess usage of water here. If your neighbors caught you wasting water, they might report you to the water authorities. You have to adhere to the mandatory watering schedule for your trees and landscaping. However, if you want to get a house or an apartment with a swimming pool, there are plenty available. Plus, there are also amazing water parks here, which both adults and kids can enjoy.
  8. Las Vegas is mostly an adult city. If you plan to bring your whole family, including your kids, then you need to be mindful where you take them. You’ll be exposed with lots of “adult activities” scattered around the downtown like billboards, showgirls, street performers, as well as a few weird people who wander some of the most famous tourist spots like Downtown and the Strip. Plus, there’s the casinos, gambling, smoking and the recently legalized marijuana. Before you decide to move here, don’t forget to plan where you want to live first. Don’t worry because there are still a lot of family-friendly residential communities located in the suburban areas of Green Valley, Whitney Ranch, Summerlin, Providence Area, Aliante and so on.
  9. Traffic is much better in Las Vegas. You won’t have to sit in bumper to bumper traffic for your commute unlike California. Most of the commutes here are just short distances, so residents no longer have to worry about being late or getting stuck in heavy traffic.
  10. Las Vegas is packed with all sorts of restaurants. From food trucks to upscale dining, you’ll find lots of them in Las Vegas. Since this place is a world-famous tourist destination, you’ll see many award-winning restaurants as well as neighborhood restaurants popping up everywhere in the city. There are casino buffets which you can get discounts with your players’ card. In addition, if you’re looking for some home cooked meals, Southern Cal style, then there are lots of food chains like that here, too.
  11. Enjoy a tight-knit, small-town vibe in Las Vegas. It might not seem like it, but Las Vegas is still a small town with only an approximate of 2 million residents. In some places, you’ll notice how everybody knows each other. This city is also great for people who’d like to start a new life. Locals here are very welcoming to newcomers. Also, it’s even possible for you to meet and make friends with people from all walks of life in this city.
  12. Las Vegas locals are mostly transplants. Most of the residents living here nowadays were once Californians. It’s also the same when you go to Southern California (most of them are from Las Vegas). It’s not that hard to adapt to this city since you won’t feel like a stranger. Your neighbors most likely also moved from somewhere else.
  13. Local Las Vegas attractions are just a few miles away. If you want to visit the mountains, you just need to take a short drive there. The lake is also just a few miles away from the town. Moving around in Las Vegas is so easy and convenient since a lot of the tourist places and entertainment areas are just a couple of minutes away by car. For example, you can be in the downtown in the morning and take a 10 to 15 minute drive down to the desert area be back in the city by lunch time.
  14. Do not move to Las Vegas from Los Angeles in the summer. The best season to move to Vegas from L.A is in the spring, fall, or even in the winter when moving rates are significantly cheaper. However, if you really have to do it in the summer, then remember to keep yourself hydrated at all times. Also, make sure to keep your children and pets under the shade. What’s even better is to consider hiring professional movers to do this strenuous job for you.

Even with professional help, moving an appliance as big and heavy as a refrigerator can sometimes result to a broken toe or injury. If you find it no longer necessary to keep your fridge then it’s best to dispose of it.

Fridge disposal and recycling should comply with the local, state and federal laws to avoid hefty fines and other punishments.

It’s best to call professional appliance movers like moveON moving since they’re highly experienced and knowledgeable in proper fridge disposal and recycling.

Remember, don’t try to do this unless you have enough knowledge and experience or else, you’ll just end up damaging your house, the environment and yourself in the process. Plus, consider the fees that you’ll incur for home and damage repair, lost security deposits, environmental fees, transportation costs and landfill fees.

If it seems like it’s best to buy a new one, then decide to hire some professional appliance movers and let them handle this while you keep yourself and your friends safe from harm and possible liabilities.

moveON moving will take care of everything — from padding, handling as well as for recycling and disposal in accordance to the law. Give yourself some peace of mind and give us a call now.

One of the hardest decisions to make is finding the perfect place to retire. There are so many things to consider like the kind of community, environment, cost of living, housing price and so on.

Interestingly, thanks to its low tax rates, a rich lineup of world-class entertainment, sunny climate and proximity to California, a rising number of senior citizens are now moving into Las Vegas. Now, Las Vegas has become the next retirement hotspot for active adults from all sides of California.

Here are a couple of reasons why Las Vegas has become so attractive to Californian retirees.

    1. Las Vegas is just a few hours away from the Golden State. Those who’d not want to stay too far from their family can easily drive down to Las Vegas. Plus San Diego and the coast are just a couple of miles from there. In addition, Northern Californians can also take a 90-minute flight to the Bay Area so Las Vegas actually near and easily accessible to those in the Golden State.
    2. Similarity in culture. Originally, most areas in Las Vegas have been populated and developed by those from Southern California so it’s not surprising to notice a few similarities in terms of culture like their love for music and entertainment as well as the laid back lifestyle and laissez-faire attitude. In short, living in Vegas is almost the same as living in the East or West Coast, just remove the heavy traffic and high cost of living.
    3. Beneficial Tax Structure. Overall, Nevada is quite popular for its low state tax rates with no personal income tax and has significantly low property taxes. In addition, retirees won’t need to be taxed for inheritance and estate taxes. Like how a famous Las Vegan saying, “Tourists pay the taxes for us”, and that’s entirely true. That’s why this place is so attractive seniors who are now relying on their retirement savings.
    4. Abundant Entertainment and Leisure Options. I don’t need to explain how famous Las Vegas is when it comes to world-class entertainment and leisure. Aside from the usual 24-hour casinos and amazing shows that run both night and day, a couple of leisure activities tailor-made for the active adults are also available here.
At the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) and at the Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services, retirees can enroll in further academic studies as well as venture into various leisure activities, day trips and other activities.
While those who love watching performances and listening to classical music can come to The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. In Las Vegas, senior citizens will have plenty of opportunities to have fun, spend time with family, and create long-lasting memories.
    5. Mild, Sunny Weather All Throughout the Year. The mild, warm weather in Las Vegas encourages its residents to venture into different outdoor activities like golf, tennis, hiking, biking and so on. Here, golfers will have plenty of options to choose from. A couple of public and private golf courses are located all around the city. In addition, active adults who feel more adventurous can go on day trips and explore the mountains, the deserts and Lake Mead which are all just an hour away. They can also visit some of the famous local attractions like the Valley of Fire and the Grand Canyon or watch shows at the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Furthermore, retirees find the warm, dry climate in Las Vegas comforting, especially in relieving joint pains and arthritis.
    6. Volunteer and Community Work. The problem that active adults face during retirement is not having anything to do which results to lethargy, loss of physical strength and sickness. In a 2007 study, it was found out that retirees who involve themselves in volunteer or community work tend to have higher life satisfaction, a deeper sense of purpose, and an improved mental and physical well-being. Luckily for the senior citizens In Las Vegas, they’ll find lots of volunteer or community work here that’ll fit their interest and lifestyle.
    7. Growing Number of Active Lifestyle Communities. A great example of a thriving retirement community can be found in Las Vegas. In that place, senior population accounts for more than 11% of the residents. Because of this, the other nearby areas have started to offer various activities and services that would cater to the active adult population. In addition, a couple of lifestyle community developers like Sun City, are investing in active lifestyle communities which offers affordable houses and a plethora of amazing amenities. Also, a lot of senior living apartment, condo buildings and assisted living facilities have started booming in this region. Take note, compared to the other states, the homes in Las Vegas are still the most affordable especially for retirees.

So with all of these great benefits, it’s no wonder why most Californians are picking Las Vegas as their next retirement destination. And when they’ve finally decided to move, that’s where we come in.

We at moveON moving are ready to help our senior customers with their plans of relocating to this amazing city. We offer affordable local and long distance moving services in Southern California as well as from Los Angeles, San Diego and other areas in the Golden State.

One of moveON moving’s specialty moving services is moving Pool Tables. We know that moving this large, heavy item isn’t a task for one person — especially for an inexperienced mover. So we provide our clients with hassle free moving services to help you sit back and relax while we do all the heavy labor.

We’ll take all the parts apart carefully, inventory them and pack each of them and move them to their new location, then reassemble it like a Lego piece with efficiency and precision.

However, we do understand that there are some people who prefers to do this task the D.I.Y style. Keep in mind that you need to call a couple of your friends to help you accomplish this feat. First, you need to carefully dismantle it without forgetting which part should connect with another.

Also, you need to be really skilled in carpentry or handling furniture plus also organized so you won’t get the parts jumbled up. Also, you need to prepare a couple of tools and equipment for this. One challenging part is safely removing the felt from the slate without leaving one part out. But of course, nothing beats putting the felt back on.

Though it may not seem like it, a huge, heavy pool table can be one of the hardest items to move. Deciding to do it on your own can be really challenging and backbreaking unless of course you are confident in your skills and with your helpers.

Also, if you’re not careful, you might break your pool table or worse, you might get injured or one of your helpers injured in the process.

Preparation and Disassembly of the Pool Table

So here are some things that you need to know before taking your pool table apart:

  1. Prepare your tools and equipment – to dismantle an item as big and as heavy as a pool table, you need a set of tools like a staple puller, a flat head screwdriver, safety goggles, socket wrench and a power drill.
  2. Follow the instruction manual – it’s always best to keep the instructions manual for cases like these. So if you’re unsure where to begin, then look at the instruction manual which came with the item when you first bought it.
  3. Dismantle your Pool Table – the first thing to do is to tear down your pool table carefully. Part by part. Bit by bit. You might think it’s easier to move the whole thing through the doorways and upstairs, but I’m telling you right now that it’s not. It’s actually wrong and could potentially be dangerous to you and your helpers.
  4. Group the parts that go together and put labels on them – there’s no harm in being organized. Everything you remove from the screws to the bolts need to be carefully catalogued and labeled so it’s easier for you to put it back together. Taking a picture of how they look like before would also help. Wrap these parts carefully and store them safely inside the moving truck. Remember, there is nothing worse than moving all the parts and suddenly wasting time finding missing screws in a box full of parts. It’s even worse going out and running to the hardware just to buy the missing part.

Now that you’ve gotten an idea on what to prepare and expect, let’s move on to the actual dismantling, moving and reassembling your pool table:

  1. Start by removing the staples from all six side pockets using a staple puller. Sometimes these are secured with screws so you might also need your flathead screwdriver to do this part.
  2. Keep an eye out for bolts. Unscrew each one using a socket wrench to hold each rail in place. Then remove each rail. If the rails are attached at the corners, ask one of your helpers to assist you in flipping the rails over so you can take them apart. Don’t forget to put labels on them.
  3. Removing the felt is the trickiest part of all. Why do you need to take this off before relocating the pool table? Simply because it would lessen the damage to it. If you’re thinking of replacing the felt then just simply tear the old one off the slate. However, if you plan to re-attach it again, then do step one.
  4. To remove the screws from the slate, you need a power drill. Afterwards, take the slate off. If the slate is all in one piece (or even in multiple pieces) then you might need to ask a couple of your friends to help you with this part. Remember that each slate can weigh up to a few hundred pounds per piece. Also, handle the slate carefully since any chip or dent can have an enormous effect on the overall function of the pool table.
  5. Detach the frame, wrap it and move it to the back of the truck. Don’t forget to wrap the rails and legs, and place them on top of the frame. Each piece is matched to each other so take extreme caution in handling them.
Reassembling your Pool Table

If you followed everything in this article then it should be quite easy to put your pool table back together. With all the parts, screws and bolts grouped and wrapped carefully with labels, you already know which parts would go together.

The best way to reassemble is to do it upside down. This means you need a set of strong arms to help you flip this huge thing over afterwards.

Start with the slate. Level it according to the floor by using shims. Make sure the place where you’re trying to reassemble the pool table has a level flooring else, this will affect your pool table’s overall gaming function. After leveling the slate, use beeswax to fill in screw holes. Also, wax the seams. Using a propane torch will melt the wax and once it’s dry, use a metal paint scraper to smoothen the surface.

Next, add the felt and rails. Use a razor blade to cut holes so you can place the bolts. This part is the most time-consuming so prepare yourself beforehand. Use a metal paint scraper to flatten the felt and push any air bubbles out. You don’t want any creases or bumps in the felt if you want to play like a pool shark.

Once the felt is in place, put the rails on. Close the gaps carefully, making sure there are no wrinkles or creases in the felt.

Once the table is all set up, you can now put the legs on one by one. With the help of a few strong men, flip the table over and voila! You have successfully moved your pool table.

After a long, stressful moving day, all you want to do is to take a day-off and rest. But, you don’t want to leave your movers without giving them anything for their hard work, right?

A common scenario is when everything is almost done and the movers only have a few items left to unload and unpack, you start to think about how much you’re going to tip them. Of course you wouldn’t want to look cheap or unappreciative.

So, how do you give your tip? Rather, how much should you give? Should you give it to one person and let them divide it among themselves or would you rather tip individually to each mover?

Here are some commonly asked questions:

Do I need tip movers?

They will surely get paid because you hired them as professionals. However, think about the casino dealer whom you’ve given a tip after giving you a straight flush or the valet person at the mall who drove your car to you from the valet parking.

Remember that movers are part of the service industry and just like the examples I’ve given, tipping them is a great way to show your gratitude.

Movers from moveON moving are all expertly trained, licensed people who are there to do all the arduous work of relocating all kinds of items from one place to another — intrastate or interstate. Every day they work from morning till night, lifting heavy items and unloading and unpacking them. Just imagine how backbreaking it is.

So remember, if somebody deserves to be tipped, it’s your friendly, responsible and hardworking movers.

When should I give the tip?

Timing is the key. It’s alright to give tips beforehand to each mover as an incentive to encourage them to work even harder. If they did go the extra mile, then you can also decide to give an additional tip.

BUT! Do make sure that your moving company isn’t adding any service charge into the bill since it would already act as the tip and you don’t want to over tip.

How much should I tip?

The amount which you can possibly give can be calculated using this simple formula: the total amount you are spending + the quality of the move = tip %

Usually, clients give a 5% standard tip. Now it’s up to you whether to give 5% of the bill to the foreman and let him split the amount among themselves or give the 5% to each mover individually. If you are generous enough, then you can give 10% to 20%. This basically depends on your budget and how satisfied you are with their service.

It’s also appropriate to consider the circumstances for example, if they were able to successfully move all the items inside a 5-bedroom house intrastate in 8 hours without any delays, breakage or hassles, then maybe adding a few bucks wouldn’t be too much.

Everything falls on your own judgement. There are some cases which can be an exemption to the 5% rule though. For example, interstate moves which would take days deserve at least a $200 tip. But, if they had to face tough weather conditions and did manage to move successfully without any delays then I guess they deserve a bit more.

In cases wherein movers need to handle delicate and expensive items like flat screen TVs, chandeliers, paintings, computer equipment, etc., you might want to give them something extra for it. Of course, this also applies to heavy, unevenly shaped and bulky items which falls under specialty items.

Which mover should I give the tip to?

You might think that you need to give a higher tip to the foreman, but, in fact, you don’t, unless you saw them personally doing a significantly great job. Don’t worry because crew leaders get higher wages too. If you want to reward someone more, then keep an eye out for those who work harder than the rest. This would be good if you’re planning to tip them individually.

If you want to give the whole tip to one person so they could split it up, then hand it to one person and tell everyone that it should be divided amongst the whole team so it doesn’t end up in one person’s (or the crew leader’s) pocket.

What if I don’t want to give a tip?

Again, tipping is just a way for the client to show their gratitude and appreciation to the movers who did their best to finish the job on time and according to the plan. Tipping is NOT mandatory. It should be voluntary and done with careful judgement.

Are the movers being respectful to you and careful in handling your items? Are they hard working and serious with their work? As the client, it is important that you see these things first hand so you can decide whether to give tips or not.

If, for example, the movers showed up late, trampled your garden, dent the walls or wasn’t kind or friendly to you and your family, then it’s obvious that there shouldn’t be any tip for them. Rather, you should take note of all of these experiences and write them an honest review on their website so that future clients would get a heads up.

To avoid getting paired with a no-good, unprofessional mover, ALWAYS do your research beforehand. Check their company websites for client reviews, ask people whom you know have experience hiring a mover, ask for recommendations and visit their office.

Also, it’s alright to bring up your complaints to the foreman or crew leader so he could tell his team to change their ways and do better next time. If they’re unwilling to rectify the issue, then it’s time to call the company’s customer service and file a valid complaint.

Gestures of Goodwill

Aside from money, you can actually give your movers something more to keep them motivated. You can provide them with some refreshment or snacks. It’s not mandatory, but it shows good hospitality. Remember, these guys were the ones packing, carrying and moving all your items from upstairs, downstairs and to their new location — whether intrastate or interstate.

Especially during the summer season, giving out ice cold bottles of water and some pizza will make your movers feel appreciated and cared for. BUT avoid giving beers since almost all moving companies have STRICT POLICIES regarding drinking during or after a job. You don’t want to end up with unnecessary hassles along the way.

During the winter, giving them a warm cup of chocolate or coffee with some sandwiches in the morning would be an awesome gesture.

Overall, it doesn’t matter how much or how little you give your movers. Just think of them like your own employees. Do they deserve to be tipped? How much do you think they deserve to get tipped? Were they able to do their job successfully?

Now that you’ve learned about tipping your movers, if you’re planning to move anywhere, then give us a call now and let’s talk about what to do next. We, at moveON moving, are happy to be of service to you.

Obviously, moving a shed isn’t a small task. Some might even think it’s no longer necessary.

Here are some common reasons why people think about moving their shed:

  • Relocating the shed to a new house.
  • House upgrades.
  • Keeping the extra storage space.
  • Making room for a new or bigger shed

However, no matter the reason you want to move your shed, the question still remains — “How do you do it?

Just the thought of moving this whole structure will give anyone a bad headache. First, you have to think about the place where you’re relocating your shed. Then, you need to make sure that the place is leveled enough. Once you’ve thought about this, the next thing to decide is whether to hire a moving company or DO-IT-YOURSELF (with a couple of your best buddies, of course). If you decide to do it yourself, then you need to think about the supplies and equipment that you’ll use to lift and move your shed.

But if you decide to hire a moving company, then you need to start thinking about the possible costs and start doing research in finding the best moving company that’ll fit your preferences.

Tips on Moving your Backyard Shed

There are a few ways to move your shed in the backyard. You can move it by hand using PVC rollers or rent a forklift truck to drive the shed from one place to another. These are the most common ways. However, if you have a bigger budget, you can rent out a crane that’ll pick up the whole structure and move it from one spot to another. Of course, this third option will definitely be the most costly and even more complicated since you’ll be needing a crane operator, some permits and so on.

BUT you can avoid all this hassle if you decide to hire professional movers from respected moving companies like moveON moving.

Well, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Here are some things you need to prepare when moving a shed:

  1. Make sure the new location has enough space and level ground – Choosing the new site carefully will help you avoid any hassles during the relocation. It’s important to make sure the new location has enough space, good drainage and level ground. The best tip would be to look for an out of the way corner in your backyard, this way the shed will still be highly accessible without being an obstruction to your outdoor space. Also keep the shed away from any gas lines or water lines as well as your cesspool. And don’t forget to check the place for any possible roadblocks like pet graves, in-ground sprinkler systems or a forgotten oil tank. Be as careful as possible before deciding to actually move your shed, you don’t want to be surprised by any hassles when you decide to sell your property and learn that you need to move the shed all over again.
  2. Prepare the site for relocation – After making careful assessments and checking the new location for any obstruction, it’s finally time to prepare the new site for the actual move. If the ground is not level, then you need to make it so. First, you need to dig out a space for the foundation, make sure you’ve removed any rocks, pour concrete if necessary, and then tamp down the spot where you plan to place your shed. The best material to use is solid concrete blocks. However, if you are still a bit unsure about the foundation, you may want to try pouring an actual concrete slab for the base.
  3. Clear up the shed – Remove everything inside the shed. From lawn equipment to patio chairs. Take out every tools and items stored inside to make the shed lighter as possible. Remember the shed needs to be completely empty so a regular jack can lift it up. Also, clean the shed by sweeping the dusts out and hosing it down so there’s no dirt or dust inside and it’ll be clean when you relocate it. Keep in mind that you don’t want any cloud of dust forming at dangerous situations. Especially when you’re moving a 1,000-lbs backyard shed.
  4. Prepare the Right Equipment – Deciding on which equipment to use greatly depends on how you want to move your shed. If you’re planning to D-I-Y it with a couple of friends, then a small jack and some pipes will do. However, if you want to use modern equipment like a small Bobcat or a forklift, then you need to rent one out and hire an operator or learn the basics yourself. There are a lot of independent tool rental places that offers a variety of heavy equipment that you can use to move your shed flawlessly. If you want to operate this equipment yourself, remember to LISTEN CAREFULLY to the instructions on how to properly use them so you can avoid any accidents.
  5. Prepare a smooth, solid lanes of transport – If you are going to use some pipes to roll the shed to its new location, it’s important to make sure the surface is smooth and relatively hard. What you can do is place a couple of 2×4 wooden planks to create some tracks. This would act as a traction that’ll enable the rollers to flow freely, thus making the pushing process easier and faster for you and your helpers. Also, don’t forget to look for any overhead obstacles along the way like low-hanging tree branches and power lines.
Moving the Shed Using the Roller Method

To accomplish this, you need a couple of rounded poles, some 2×4 planks, and some wooden dowels or PVC pipes which you’ll place underneath the shed to “roll” it in its new location. First, use the 2x4s to create a “track” for the shed. Then, use one or two hydraulic jacks to lift the shed up the ground. Afterwards, place the PVC pipes or wooden dowels underneath it. Once everything is in place, you can now push the shed along the tracks you made, to its new location. This method works with most small to medium-sized sheds. Don’t forget to call a few of your friends over so you’ll get the work done faster.

Your helpers will be the ones lifting the shed, placing the rollers and pushing it from behind and pulling it from the front, towards its new place.

Moving the Shed Using a Small Forklift

As I previously mentioned, there are a lot of independent tool rental places which you can go to if you want to rent a small Bobcat with a forklift attachment. If you’re not going to hire a licensed forklift operator, you can learn the basics yourself since they’ll also provide you with comprehensive instructions on using the equipment.

So once you’ve gotten yourself a small Bobcat, here’s what you’ll do next. Use the forklift attachment to lift the shed up and drive it towards its new location. It’ll be much safer if you do your research beforehand and read some articles on the proper usage and driving techniques for forklift vehicles.

Also, don’t forget to call some of your friends over since you’ll be needing a few people who’ll make sure the shed is properly placed on the forklift and aligned on its new location. They’ll also help clear out any obstacles which you weren’t able to remove beforehand. Keep in mind that the person driving the forklift will have limited vision so having an extra set of eyes will make the work safer and much more efficient.

How to Secure Your Shed in its New Location

After placing the shed on its new location, you need to make sure it’s properly aligned and in place so you won’t worry about extreme weather knocking it off the ground. If you’re not going to use concrete foundation, you should take some extra measures to tie it down in place. Get some stakes, big ropes and a mallet and pin down the shed in its place so that strong, heavy winds wouldn’t turn your backyard shed upside down.

Once you’ve finally finished relocating the shed, go on and fill it back up. It’ll also be much better to keep your things organized, this time.

Moving is undoubtedly very stressful. During the planning stages, it becomes much worse thanks to the expenses and all the preparations. However, if you plan these things beforehand, you’ll realize that it isn’t that hard at all.

The secrets to a successful relocation are researching, planning and preparation.

    • Researching – ask other people like your friends or family, who have already done this before. Ask about their experience and the preparation they did. Also, don’t forget to ask them for referrals when it comes to finding a local mover.
    • Planning – plan your course of action and calculate the expenses.
    • Preparation – start looking for affordable and reliable movers in town. Check their website for online reviews.
Here are 7 ways to help you save money when moving in Las Vegas:
  1. Prepare a Moving Budget – according to your research and planning, calculate the estimated amount of the move and prepare a moving budget accordingly. Also, prepare extra money for emergency cases. Normally around 10% to 15% of your initial budget, according to financial experts and moving specialists.
Having a budget will help you keep things on track. It will also prevent you from spending too much than necessary. The things that you need to figure out are how much would you need: to buy boxes and other packing materials, rent a truck, get insurance, reserve an accommodation, storage rent (if applicable), utilities and so on.
  1. Evaluate which items you can sell, donate or leave behind along with the property. Moving can be a great opportunity for you to get rid of things that you no longer use or need. Leaving some items behind will save you extra money on boxing and storage. While on the other hand, selling some preloved or old items will help fund or even increase your move budget. Here are some ideas to help you when selling items:• Have a garage sale for preloved items like clothes, books, small furniture and kitchenware.
    • Sell-off sports memorabilia and artworks plus other collectible items.
    • Send large furniture to a consignment store to be resold.
    • Donate the rest of your items and get a tax write-off for them.Lastly, you can leave some furniture or fixtures along with the property and try to sell it with a little extra fee. Don’t forget to discuss these small details with the new tenant/s so they’ll know.Items which you can leave behind are appliances, garage fixtures, decorative wall items, ceiling lamps or fans, large cabinets, exercise equipment, yard furniture and anything that you think would fit better in the old house.
  1. Pack your items with utmost care. First, prepare all the items that you’ll need. Check the supplies and choose the right sizes for your moving boxes. Prepare marking pens, wrapping sheets, scissors, labeling stickers, heavy duty tape and bubble wraps. To finish faster, involve the whole family in the packing. Let them pack their own stuff BUT just make sure you have an inventory of each item which are already inside the boxes. For this activity, you have the choice to do it yourself or hire expert movers. Most of the people would choose hiring movers and involving themselves to make the move faster and a lot easier. You can pack all the small household items and let the movers handle the fragile, large, heavy things along with the special items like pianos, pool tables, artworks, antiques, and so on.The advantage of hiring a mover is that you can get useful, expert tips from them on how to properly pack things together to avoid breakage. Also, during the initial planning stage, allot several weeks for packing so you’ll have lots of time to go over your items and decide which one to bring, sell and discard.
  1. Coordinate with your Utilities and Service Providers. Before you settle down in your new place, don’t forget to talk to your individual utility and service providers to avoid having to pay double for the utility costs. It’s better to talk to them a few days before the move and coordinate the transfer of their services to your new location or cancel the subscription in case you’re going to get a new provider.
Remember to give the utility and service providers a forwarding address so you can receive any final bill and pay it accordingly. And, a few months after settling down in your new place, check your credit reports to verify if there are no continuing bills from the old address which probably got left behind.
  1. Make a decision whether to hire a moving company or not. If you’re only moving a few boxes, then I guess you can make the move on your own. But, if you’re planning to move 10 years’ worth of items in your house including furniture, large appliances and special items, then it’s best to seek professional help and hire a responsible moving company like moveOn Moving. Here are some things to consider:• How much are you moving in volume?
    • How heavy and how many items will you be moving?
    • How many days would it take for you to pack everything?
    • Will you and your team be able to handle the packing by yourselves or will you need professional help?
    • How much time do you have to move your things out?For homeowners and apartment or condo tenants, it’s best to hire a professional mover since you’ll be moving lots of items. So, do try to ask for a written estimate/quotation so you could think about your options.Remember, moving can be a strenuous and stressful activity so having someone to help you is a great advantage.
  1. Don’t be shy to ask for quotations from several movers. It’s not a crime to talk to as many moving companies as you can since it is your right to choose which company you’re comfortable to work with and which service is affordable according to your budget.Instead of just going online, try to visit their office to check out their operation. Confirm whether they have the appropriate license with the Department of Transportation and discuss your situation with them. Also, look for an expert team of movers who’ll give you the service that you need. Ask for pricing when it comes to packing and insurance. Also, inquire about their payment methods. This would help you to sift out those who are only after the money and those who asks for cash up front.
  1. Conduct a Post-Moving Audit. To make sure you were able to bring everything you need, don’t forget to conduct a post-moving audit. Using the inventory you have previously prepared, check the items one by one and look for any damages, scratches, breakage. For electronics, don’t forget to try if they’re working properly and verify if you were able to bring all your valuable items like jewelries, artworks, vintage collections, and gadgets with you at your new place.

A reliable and trustworthy mover would stick around to help you with the auditing. They will stay with you until you’ve fully confirmed that everything is okay and you are satisfied with their service. They’ll also be readily available in case any problem or issue would arise.

Keep in mind, with proper research, planning and preparation, you can easily lower the cost of your move and make it easy and hassle-free. moveON moving is an expert in affordable and hassle-free moving. So give us a call now or get a free quote for your big move.

Before and during the moving process, don’t forget to hire professionals to inspect every nook and cranny — from electricity, water, internet, kitchen appliances, ventilation and so on. Also, make sure that the new site strictly complies with the building regulations and permit to avoid any legal issues.
  4. Design an organized floor plan (and seating plan) before you move – Moving can be an exciting thing, but the organization and allocation of space can be quite messy. So coming up with a well-planned floor and seating plan before move day will save you lots of time and will also help you with the proper placement of electrical, water, phone and internet and data connections.
  5. Coordinate with your IT and Telecoms provider – Don’t forget to talk to your telecoms provider so they’ll know what to do once you start moving. Schedule the cable guy earlier and coordinate with them ahead of time to avoid any unwanted downtime.
  6. Use the Color Coding Scheme or the Numbering Scheme – For big offices and business establishments, putting which item in which place can be challenging. But, organizing them by putting big, color coded tags or grouping them by numbers will make the unloading and relocation much more efficient. Put matching color codes in the destination or place numbers in each office cubicle or rooms to specify each location. Also, placing directional signs on the walls will help the movers find their way much faster, thus making the whole moving process more methodical.
  7. Don’t forget to inform your clients about your plans of moving – Call them, send them an email or an SMS. Just make sure that all of your customers know about your plans of moving. Keep them updated through the whole process and inform them once you’ve finished moving. This method is a great way to keep your clients close and even show off your new facility. Also, once you’re already in your “new location”, don’t forget to update your contact information as well as your forms and the letterheads that you use for your customers and suppliers.
  8. Keep your important business documents/files readily accessible and available at all times – You’ll never know when you need them, so always keep a backup of your business files and documents with you, which you can carry or access anytime, anywhere. Using the Cloud system like Dropbox or Google Drive will help you a LOT when you need to do business while on move day.
  9. Have your employees personally move important or valuable items – Make a record of who’s keeping what and ask your employees to carry with them these valuable items such as art collections, antiques, or electronics, when they relocate to the new site. This way, you get to avoid the risk of any damages or even losing them during the moving process.
  10. Get your people involved – Have your employees contribute in the planning stages and help you with the packing. Getting your people involved will help them adjust better to their “new home”. Don’t forget to open a bottle of age wine and celebrate with them once the moving is over. Sharing the whole experience will deepen the bond you have will your employees.

Overall, moving doesn’t need to chaotic. With proper preparation and planning, this experience can be both fun and exciting, not just for you, but also for your employees as well as for your customers who’ll also be looking forward to see your company grow and move into their new home.
