ESO 2018: Elder Scrolls Online Summerset DLC Review and First Impressions (Day 1)
The beautiful thing about The Elder Scrolls Online is that it’s all connected and it all makes sense. Anyone that’s been playing regularly over the last year will perhaps know that stories are a great sense of joy in ESO. That’s not changed I’m glad to say, and Summerset picks up right where the previous two story DLCs left off – with both Lord Vivec and Sotha Sil telling you that Summerset is in danger thanks to the Daedra.
And that’s how things start in Summerset. Your ticket unto the island is a boat ride from your faction’s major city, and off you go to meet Razum-Dar, the Eye of the Queen. I’ve spent roughly 12 hours in the early access so far since 21st of May, and here are my quick impressions.
As far as the island goes, it’s gorgeous. The High Elves sure know how to impress. The play map isn’t as large as Morrowind’s Vvardenfell, but there’s loads of ground to cover and content to complete. The major cities all look incredible, and there’s a sense of wonderment whenever you approach one.
No story spoilers in this post of course, so let’s talk about the things that we know were going to be big in the DLC. First up, Abyssal Geysers. These are organic landscape content that can be found throughout the island, in six locations. And as I suspected, they function just like Dolmens in the base game regions. A spew of purple lights go up in the sky, indicating that things are about to get ugly. It’s also a signal for all players in the vicinity to converge on the spot to take down waves of monsters, and finally down a unique, random boss before looting the good stuff. The formula has existed before as I’ve mentioned, but this time around, the locations are different – in the sense that they usually take place by the beach. At least we have organic content back now, which was missing from Morrowind and even Clockwork City.
Elsewhere, Jewel crafting is now available and the first thing I noticed on the island was that there’s new resource nodes like Pewter to mine. Heading to a crafting station in town, you’ll see a brand new jewel crafting station and that’s your queue to start leveling it up. You may now deconstruct all the rings and necklaces you’ve been hoarding for levels, which in return allows you to spend points into crafting passives for the jewelry line, to make better ones for yourselves. This is a great addition and definitely gives players something to work toward in this DLC.
From a questing perspective, the early ones I’ve done didn’t disappoint. The writing is deeper and engaging, and the voice acting is on-point, and has been since Morrowind a year ago. There’s family feuds to solve, murder mysteries to investigate and even a stint as an artist, which I found to be one of my favorite quest chains ever.
There’s still much more to do and explore, like getting the new Psijic Order skill line, and tackling the host of new Delves and dungeons, so stay tuned to the next part of this first impressions!

H1Z1: Battle Royale Open Beta Now Available On PlayStation 4
Daybreak Games® today announced that H1Z1®: Battle Royale, the original standalone battle royale game, is now available for free on PlayStation® 4. The battle royale shooter is currently in Open Beta with a full release scheduled for later this year. Watch the new trailer here.
H1Z1 has been redesigned specifically for PlayStation 4 players, with a larger weapon arsenal – six new weapons – and fully reworked UI among the new features. Matches are fast and frantic. The encroaching ring of toxic gas moves quickly while the new weapon progression system keeps players engaged with frequent, increasingly lucrative airdrops.
“We redesigned H1Z1 on the PlayStation 4 to cater to the action shooter fan. It’s fast-paced, intuitive, and its 15-minute matches make for fun, intense sessions,” said H1Z1 Producer Terrence Yee. “We received fantastic feedback during Closed Beta and we are excited for all PlayStation 4 players to finally be able to experience the intense action of H1Z1: Battle Royale with this Open Beta release.”
H1Z1’s control system has been overhauled for maximum speed and mayhem on PS4. With a familiar radial weapon menu, players can quickly switch between their two weapons of choice: guns and grenades. The grab-and-go equipment system also makes it easier for players to collect loot on the run.
Airdrops have never been more important in H1Z1. As the primary way to find the best loot, players must strategically decide when to pursue a mass airdrop for higher-powered armor and better weapons. For more cautious players, special crates with similar high-level gear are hidden throughout the map – just listen for the radio chatter and signal beacon that sounds when they are nearby.
H1Z1: Battle Royale PS4 Bundle Packs
Three limited-edition bundles have been created for H1Z1’s PlayStation 4 Open Beta:
Starter Bundle ($4.99 USD)
Standard Bundle ($19.99 USD)
Deluxe Bundle ($49.99 USD)
PlayStation Plus Members receive one free bundle that includes two exclusive Nemesis Crate items –the tactical body armor and explorer backpack.

Last week’s game sale charts in the UK proves promising for MMOs, with a few online titles still staying strong on the charts. Call of Duty: WWII sees a high surge up the chart from a lower position last week. With Battlefield V being announced later this week, there could be a renewed interested in war FPS again – as if that ever went away.
Elsewhere, PUBG, Destiny 2 and Star Wars Battlefront II all remain on the chart, albeit dropping positions. This is more than likely due to the amount of time passed since their respectively releases. An argument can also be made regarding fatigue, especially with PUBG. The truth is, for the Battle Royale genre, another has been overshadowing PUBG and that is Fortnite. Fortnite doesn’t make the charts because it is a free to play game, thus sales for its Battle Royale game mode do not exist.
For single player RPG games, God of War still rules at the top. It will be very likely now that the game will receive GOTY (Game of the Year), considering it’s been up there ever since the week of its release.

Lord of the Rings Online Will Release Update 23: The Lonely Mountain This Year
Developers Standing Stone Games has released a producer’s letter for The Lord of the Rings Online. One of the main things the team is working on is the release of Update 23. The new update will move the main story along from Northern Mirkwood into the Dwarven kingdom of Erebor. Players will also get a chance to venture further into the Iron Hills, stronghold of Dain Ironfoot. There will be around 80 landscape quests to complete, as players will very much need the XP to hit the new level cap of 120.
Update 23’s release will be around summer or shortly after, and a new instance cluster will also be making its way into the game. For end-game raiders, there’s a new raid too but that will be coming at a much later date. The Black Book of Mordor that began in the last expansion will also continue, but players wanting to check out Minas Morgul and Shelob will have to wait until 2019.
The letter also details what’s coming in this year’s summer festival. For the first time ever, Seasonal Instances will be making a debut. These are instances and dungeons that only appear during a festival season. For the Summer Festival 2018, players will get to experience the Thrang 6-man dungeon that will scale up for fellowship sizes and even for solo players. For more information, check out the letter in full here.
