We understand the growing need for flexibility when it comes to studio rentals. That's why the Mint Room offers a variety of packages that can be customized to your unique needs whether you're a professional or recreational photographer.
We were so pleased to have Rachel Clingen shoot at Mint Room for her brand makeover. She prides her wedding and events company on providing her clients with stylish wedding décor and luxury flowers in the Toronto and Muskoka regions, being the top choice for brides for 25+ years.
Rachel is an award winning designer and creative director with a passion for colour, form, and texture. She has a gift for curating fashion forward events and transforming any room into a work of art, regardless of the design challenge. We loved having Rachel, Jessica, Victoria, Emilia, Kim and David in our Ballroom, Conservatory and Library rooms, along with the talented 5ive15ifteen Photography. The team shot everything for her new website and branding over the course of two days.
The fresh white vibe of the Conservatory served well for the team to show off their design work in action. They assembled gorgeous flower arrangements in a variety of colour tones and the room looked just like a blooming flower market. Meanwhile, the polished ambiance offered in the Ballroom and Library suited the alluring reception styled shots with Rachel and husband David. The tall magnolia trees brought in added quite the decadent finishing touch.
We were delighted when Rachel and company chose our studio as the setting for their new branding photoshoot, and are excited to share the outcome. Mint Room is a versatile studio, offering rental space for all sorts of client needs.
We were delighted to be Cobie Wells’ choice of studio for her company’s recent branding shoot, generating beautiful content for her new website and social media platforms. Cobie owns Her Studios Inc, a full service salon that offers cuts, colour, make up, lashes and other hair care services. She and August Media joined forces with a talented team of professionals to create the images seen below.
The Ballroom, with its soft and airy vibe, was the ideal location to show off her talents catering to the bridal market. The Ballroom’s white walls, delicate sheer curtains and moulded fireplace (a client favourite) were used in this shoot, complementing the bride and bridesmaid dresses perfectly.
The Lounge was also used that day, and we absolutely love how these casual, laidback shots turned out! The Lounge has so many backdrop options and Her Studios took full advantage of the beautiful space. The ladies had fun in this setting wearing their colour-coordinated denim and matching white tops, resulting in images that are the definition of #SquadGoals.
Her Studios’ goal is to have customers leaving after a service feeling more beautiful than before it began – something so apparent from the outcome of this shoot! All vendors who took part brought their A-game and made that goal a reality for everyone involved.
Cobie spoke to us about her experience at Mint Room Studios: “I loved the variety of rooms available and the ease of online booking. The staff was so helpful and responded promptly to all my requests and inquiries. The goal of the shoot was to brand my new company and advertise my staff and services. We achieved this by using the Ballroom and White Loft; both rooms are very bright and elegant. The panoramic-style windows really allowed natural light to shine through, enhancing the natural beauty while making the hair styles and makeup pop! This was a true representation of what my brand is all about. I truly adored all the amazing furniture that Mint Room offers in its spaces and how they provide essentials to their customers (tables, steamer, clothing rack, make up stations). This made a hectic day much more manageable.”
Poppy Lane Toronto, a fashion company, has set out to break the mold and redefine South Asian style on their own terms. With quality prioritized, every piece of fabric, trim and thread that goes into their collections is hand-picked.
We love how Poppy Lane fashions embody minimalism at its finest. The company’s mantra is to make it simple yet significant! Taken in our gorgeous White Loft, these stunning photos from their latest collection emulate that statement so well.
The pure, all-white walls in this room make for a great blank canvas but still this room has a few unique details that stand out in just the right way. The 7-foot arch, grand crystal chandelier and bookshelf add that touch of elegance for interest to photos.
Its three large windows which bring lots of natural light and make this room bright and airy all the time during the day.
Our third Mint Room Challenge was a huge success! This time, Maya Sherwood passed the torch of leading the challenge to Drew Obtinalla, our Studio Manager. Maya had pioneered a creative community here at Mint Room and set the standards high for these challenges from the get-go, and Maya and Drew collaborated to put on a great shooting event by inviting five talented photographers and one incredible model to set. This time the format was kept essentially the same, while switching up the challenges!
We hosted the event in our two newest rooms: White Loft and Nest. Doing this gave the Mint Room Challenge a breath of fresh air. None of the photographers had shot in either of the rooms before and were thus faced with obstacles as the harsh and soft light fluctuated during the day. The selection of furniture and props and a variety of new walls and corners provided creative inspiration to the contestants, all while shooting under a time limit of five minutes per turn.
Each photographer was numbered at random at the start of the event and took turns shooting in “snake” order (1-5 first challenge, 5-1 next challenge, and so-on). Below is a list of the challenges and brief description of what each entailed:
1) Hourglass Challenge: each photographer had to make use of the hourglass. Whether it was held or remotely visible in the frame, it was essential to use this prop somewhere as creatively as possible.
2) Floral Challenge: contestants were encouraged to use the seasonal Spring Set Up, which consisted of a gorgeous white trellis, floral backdrop and floral props.
3) Director’s Challenge: in this challenge, Contestant 1 directed Contestant 2, 2 directed 3 and so on. In this case, the director instructed the photographer to take the photo, all the while not being able to see the results themselves. The photographer had no choice but to agree to everything the director instructed.
4) Mirror with a Coat Challenge: A mirror was provided, and each photographer had to use reflection in the shot, as well as an additional styling element of a topcoat.
5) Selfie Challenge: For this, contestants shot each other. This was a unique challenge, as it was the perfect way to get everyone out of their comfort zone while becoming familiar with one another. They were both surprised and excited to shoot each other’s portrait!
About the 5 photographers:
Rupert: Commercial and lifestyle photographer who is also into fashion and editorial.
Andre: Fashion and portrait photographer who also runs a wedding agency.
Steph: Fashion and editorial photographer also experienced in weddings and travel.
Kyrsten: Portrait photographer specializing in beauty and fashion.
Chelsey: Model, portrait photographer and studio manager.
The reason we chose these photographers was not only because of their common interest in portraiture, but also their unique styles and varying genres. All of them are industry working photographers but none had ever experienced an event like the Mint Room Challenge. The Director’s Challenge was the group favourite, as they were really tested on their artistic direction and trust in one another. By surrendering their ability to even look through the viewfinder, it excited the director and made them curious as to how the results would turn out.
Maya and Drew had as much fun conducting the Mint Room Challenge as the participants and model. They were also thrilled having Artur and Mazai documenting the day with video. We look forward to putting on more challenges and planning future events. We value and pride ourselves on the sense of community here at Mint Room and will continue to create new ways to foster this type of environment. If you’d like to participate in our next challenge, we’d love to see your work! Please email email@example.com to inquire further.
Statement from Thomas Caldwell, Designer Thomas Henry Made:
“When I heard which photographers were participating in the challenge (some of my favourite follows in the city), and once I saw Rachid, I knew we had to do something special. Rachid has an elegant and refined image, so I had a high-low vision for him. I wanted to put him in the most luxurious formalwear – velvet smoking jackets, midnight blue tuxedos and fur collar greatcoats – but at the same time dress it down with polo shirts and a relaxed casual look. Rather than have a fully traditional look, I wanted Rachid’s look along with the décor at Mint Room to make for a perfect canvas for photographers to do their thing.
“When I saw the results of the challenge, it was even better than I expected. There was such a diverse range of styles and angles, but all brought Rachid – and the suits – out in a wonderful way. The use of the mirrors and perspective was incredible. I was blown away by all of the results of the challenge, but I have to say my favourites were set against the flower wall. My kudos to Mint Room for the amazing studio space and my gratitude to the photographers for going above and beyond with their talents.”
When spring rolls around, we are feeling happier, more energetic and ready for some change! Our Spring Set Up was a total hit in the month of March, bringing in lots of wonderful clients showcasing their many unique talents.
Our Mint Room team brought their plans to life with a beautiful white diamond trellis intertwined with gorgeous climbing flower arrangements, a comfy blush pink stool with gold hardware and a cute mini planter for the base. The pink, peach and yellow toned botanicals really brought about a fresh and vibrant oasis to the White Loft, giving the room a sunny outlook just in time for the season change.
We are pleased to share a few of our client’s photos out in full bloom!
A Modern-Meets-Traditional Shoot Featuring Bodmon Zaid
By now, Bodmon (Laiba) Zaid is no stranger to Mint Room Studios, and we are always so eager to see the amazing content she always seems to create at our studio. This time, her stellar team shot in our Lounge, known for its textured walls and floor, as well as its mysterious vibes. We’ve seen this room made over to be a backdrop for everything from feminine bridal editorials to moody dance showcases, and this shoot transformed the space yet again!
The team was inspired by Afghan culture, even going so far as to name this series The Enchanted Afghan Princess! Bodmon herself emulates true and total IG royalty in this vibrant creative, and needless to say, she did NOT disappoint. Avery Wassel Photography captured the phenomenal amount of detail in the dresses and jewelry provided by Fardin Fashion Inc, the intricate make up and hair by Sabrina Wassel, and the over-the-top décor created by Opulent Event Designs.
It’s always such a treat for the Mint Room team to see the creative energy that gets poured into shoots like these by our clients and community, particularly when they reflect the vast array of backgrounds and cultures that make our city so great. We hope you enjoy this stylish shoot as much as we did!
This fabulous editorial, a nod to Kate Moss’ 2011 nuptials, was published in WedLuxe and has had us oohing and aahing for months over the sheer elegance of this supermodel-inspired wedding.
We adore the nude hues, blush tones and gold accents used throughout this luxurious story; one which we feel any bride-to-be would stop in her tracks to admire.
Kate is truly an elite fashion icon and someone who has always been known to break the mould. Purple Tree Photography, Petals and Pearls, and all the other participating vendors encapsulated that essence of Kate so well with the highest level of styling and detail, not to mention, Kate’s unique bridal party of all boys and girls.
The Conservatory and Ballroom at Mint Room Studios, which connect with bi-folding doors, each have brilliant all-white walls, grey flooring and majestic windows that make it an absolute haven for wedding photographers, allowing plenty of natural light in the space to reveal every detail. The elegant molding designs give an amorous European feeling that is experienced throughout both of these rooms, making you feel like you’re far, far away, caught up in a dream-like fairy tale.
We invite you to check out the recreation of the ceremony and events along with all the glorious accessory, food and finer detail shots below. And don’t forget to watch the video!
Makeup, stellar fashions, good tunes, delicious food, pink bubbly, good conversation, and exceptional company. Who could ask for anything more on Valentine’s Day? This past February, a group of women gathered to celebrate in our bright and airy White Loft room for an intimate and memorable lunch event.
Elle Cuisine, a Toronto full service catering and event management company, co-hosted the day with Olive and Ila Vintage, an online Etsy shop for the modern vintage lover, making it a day these ladies are still talking about. The items on the menu looked absolutely mouth watering!
It was our honour to have these empowered female entrepreneurs come to connect, dine, meet new friends and share some laughs while enjoying our studio space! We absolutely love how the photos turned out by Sam with Gaetz Photography. Our white space made their pink theme really stand out, with plenty of room to set up a photo booth in front of our balloon heart installation, accommodate a DJ area, and place tables and chairs for a sit down meal. This group also made great use of our adjacent Nest room to showcase the beautiful clothing brought in by Sarite Harris of Olive and Ila Vintage.
We’d like to share the day with you. Check out all the fun and memorable moments had in the pics and video below!
If you’re thinking of hosting an event, we’d love to hear from you and answer any questions you may have.
Laiba Zaid, best known to her 1.4 million followers as Bodmon Zaid, is a Pakistani-born Instagram Star famous for her YouTube fitness, hair and makeup tutorials. We welcomed her and her spectacular team to Mint Room Studios this past Valentine’s Day to capture this day of love in style.
The Library paired so well with the styling, wardrobe and table place settings that we just had to showcase this story for you all on the blog.
The Library’s sophisticated decorative wall mouldings, large bookshelf and frames gave this team great diversity and dimension to work with, making it the perfect fit. The grey-toned walls accentuated their red props beautifully, and caused the vibrant roses, candles and flowers to pop in these photos. That being said, Bodman’s striking scarlet hair completely stole the show!
We love how Avery Wassel Photography took advantage of both natural and studio lighting, having fun with the different looks each can bring to the setting and subjects.
We look forward to having everyone here again and can’t wait to see future shoots!
