Fun in the Sun Sketch Challenge

Every 2nd and 4th Friday, Susan will go Live and Play to Create with all of you! Watch her LIVE or check here on the blog to watch her process. She will start with a sketch, or she will Play to Create, and we’ll make a sketch based off her design!

You can submit your version of this challenge by creating a layout based off the sketch below. You may just see your Layout featured below here on the Kiwi Lane Blog!!

Here’s the layout Susan created LIVE!

Susan used her June 2019 Kiwi Club Kit to create her layout. Haven’t heard of Kiwi Club yet? Learn more and sign up online HERE!

TIP: Look through the title and sentiment cards for inspiration. You won’t use them all, and that is okay! It gives you options and variety.

TIP: Use the paisley templates in Celebrate and Tiny Celebrate as water drops and splashes.

TIP: You don’t have to only use the Photos sets for your photos. You can use any of the templates to crop your pictures into fun shapes.

When you use your Kiwi Club Kit, you don’t have to limit yourself to only using your Kit. You can pull any other templates and embellishments in that you already have stashed away.

TIP: You can also cut your template out again on a different paper and set it behind your template or picture on an offset to give it a fun effect.

And here are 2 more layouts created based off of this weeks Sketch! As you can see in these layouts the creators changed things up a little to meet their own wants & needs in the projects they were working on.

Time for a sketch challenge! Create your own layout using this sketch as a jumping off point. Don’t have the exact templates? Play to Create! Replace the templates used in the sketch with the ones in your personal collection. Once you’ve created your layout, share it with us. We love seeing all of your creations!

Download the sketch, print it off, and take it with you to Scrapbook!
We Can’t Wait to See What You Create!

This sketch doesn’t come with a list of Kiwi Lane Designer Templates to use. It’s a simple sketch to spark your Creativity and Free Play!

Family Egg Hunt

With Easter fast approaching I wanted to share this layout created by Sarah Shirley. If you’re lucky enough to own a Tiny Shapes Accessory Set (which were discontinued not too long ago) this layout has lots of ideas of how to use those Tiny Shapes on your Easter Layouts this year.

Designer Templates Used:

Paisley Place (1A,1B,3A,3B) Cascade Trails (1A,1B,2A,2B) Tiny Wacky (2T) Tiny Shapes (1T,3T,4T,8T)

Easter Bunny

It’s so amazing all of things you can create using the Tiny Shapes Accessory Set including this adorable Easter Bunny! Sarah completed it by adding some google eyes, a button nose & drawn on whiskers.

Twine

The little details like adding the little pieces of twine to each photo looped behind the buttons and also tied to the bunny’s ear really add a lot to this layout.

Don’t have a Tiny Shapes Accessory Set yet?

Check with your Kiwi Lane Instructor as they still might have some left in their inventory!

The Search Is On

I love how festive this Easter Scrapbooking Page by Kristy Dahl Lee is! She made this layout years ago but it still makes me smile every time I look at it.

Designer Templates Used:
Aspen Court (3B) Spook Alley (1B) Tiny Wildflower (5T) Wildflower (2) Floral (1) Tiny Shapes (3T)
Turning Borders to Trails…

Wondering how Kristy used her Spook Alley and Aspen Court Borders to make the two trails on the left side of her page? Try using the same border back to back to create fun trails just like these on your next pages.

Kristy Dahl Lee

We hope that this Page inspires you when you’re scrapbooking your Easter photos this year!

Leslie Prinkki

How To Create A Circus Tent With Your Designer Templates

From time to time someone will ask on our Play-To-Create With Kiwi Lane Facebook Group how to create a new shape using the Designer Templates we have. Thats where Kiwi Lane Instructor Leslie Prinkki of Erie, Colorado always steps up to the challenge and pulls out her Kiwi Lane Designer Templates and gets creating! Recently someone was trying to come up with a way to make a Circus Tent and look what Leslie came up! I am in LOVE!

“I love the simplicity of this little circus tent I created, just using 3 templates! Not only could you create this as a fun craft with your kids but just imagine how adorable it will look on a scrapbook layout or a birthday invitation. The basic simplicity of my circus tent allows any Kiwi crafter to really personalize it and add as many details as they want or just leave it the way it is.” -Leslie

What You Will Need

Designer Templates Needed:
Photo Mat (4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″)
Frolic Pocket Border (3)
All Star Accessory Set (3)

Other Items Needed:
Paper of your choice (Double sided pattern paper works best)
Scissors
Pencil
Adhesive

Step-By-Step Instructions on How to Create Your Own

Leslie was kind enough to share step-by-step instructions on how she created this adorable circus tent so if you follow steps 1-8 below you can easily make one of your very own.

Thank you so much Leslie for sharing your Circus Tent with all of us.

I know I’ll be Scraplifting this idea in one of my upcoming layouts for sure!

Just chicken in…

We are continually inspired by the projects you create and share with us. Today we had to spotlight this greeting card that Kiwi Lane customer Patti Clark created and shared on our Play-To-Create with Kiwi Lane Facebook Group.

Patti Clark

Patti lives on a farm just outside Independence, Kansas. She said, “I came across Kiwi Lane a few years ago and immediately was hooked as I have been a scrapbooker for about 18 years and took up card making about 10 years ago. I love to pop up the paper or elements on my cards to give dimension and ink the edges. I love giving my cards to friends and family!”

Patti made this card with her Chicken Wire Cuttlebug folder and the Kiwi Lane Country Accessory Set (2) template. She traced the chicken on thin cardboard and glued the chicken cut out to the cardboard to give it some thickness and popped the chicken wire paper up with pop dots then added enamel dots and twine to finish it off. As for the saying you ask? Patti simply printed that out on her computer!

Do you Love all things Country?

Accent your homemade creations with our new Country Accessory Set. Order yours thru your Kiwi Lane Instructor today!

The Country Accessory Set adds a warm feel to whatever layout or project you’re working on. You can take it down to the farm or bring it back to your kitchen. The bumblebee is perfect for layouts of your summer picnics or as an accent on a bee-lated birthday card. Add a Country feel with the rooster and the tractor. You can create an entire shelf of sweet memories with the jars. Your memories will be preserved right next to the jars of preserves on your pantry shelf with these homey templates.

“I love the new Country templates as I live out in the country.”  -Patti

Thank You Patti for sharing your talents with us. We can’t wait to see more of your cards and scrapbooking layouts in the future!!

Not Just For Traditional Scrapbooking…

Good morning. Today we wanted to highlight Kiwi Lane Instructor Staci Shuck (Vintage Scrap & Stitch) of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. We wanted to show you how she used a 6 3/4″x 10″ Scrapbook Album and transformed it into a journal of the activities of her year.

“It makes it quick and easy to document daily events and important thoughts for future generations. I print photos at home as needed so there’s little time delay in getting my pages finished.”

Staci, what do you enjoy about journaling in books like this and why did you decide to incorporate your Designer Templates into decorating your pages?

“Kiwi Lane Designer Templates have simplified the memory keeping process for me. They are so versatile! I can use them to trace and cut borders and embellishments for my journaling page layouts and can also use the Designer Templates as guides for journaling. This reduces the amount of “stuff” I need to work on the project making it super easy for travel. I love that even though I may use the same combo of templates there’s a different look on each page!”

I truly love working with Kiwi Lane Pocket Paper kits! The journal blocks are perfect for (in my case) planner style pages. This album is 6 3/4″ x 10″ which is perfect for the Pocket Page Designer Templates too! I used my Breezy Pocket Border and Tiny Highlights Accessory Set a lot followed by my Tiny Wildflower Accessory Set. I also LOVE to use the Designer Templates as guides for journaling! Thanks for the Pocket Page products!!

“I am loving this project because of the size and ease of completing it. It’s great for documenting daily life but also for recording ideas and sketches of future projects. I’m also amazed at how quickly I am using my scrapping stash!” – Staci Shuck

Thank you again Staci for sharing some of your Journaling Pages with us and inspiring us all to try new things using our Designer Template Sets.

Before & After Kiwi Lane
When did you begin Scrapbooking?

I had never heard of scrapbooking until I was pregnant with my 8th child and 42 years old. We had been living in Kentucky for almost 5 years and one day a couple of ladies brought their scrapbooks to church. I was fascinated! About a year later we moved back to Utah, and I was soon invited to join a group of ladies that scrapbooked together every month at church. I went to my first ‘crop’ and have been hooked ever since.

What got you hooked?

I loved being with a group of ladies and friends working on something with my hands that my family would enjoy and that would preserve my family’s history in pictures. It was fun! I had never considered myself very creative, but I could do this!

How did you feel about your very first Scrapbooking Layout?

After my first ‘crop’, which I only attended because I didn’t have any supplies, I was determined to make my first layout. I went home, found a picture of my little boy, and started cutting and gluing. I was so proud of that first layout! The sense of satisfaction and accomplishment I felt that day has kept me scrapbooking ever since, 20 years later.

Tell me a little about your “Before Kiwi” Scrapbooking style:

I started with 8 ½ x 11” layouts and bought a Creative Memories album. I have several of those filled with layouts. When 12×12” scrapbooking paper came out, I started using that. At first, I used mostly cardstock, but loved the patterned papers and always tried to add a piece here and there. I wanted to learn how to combine patterned papers together because I loved that look, and that’s mostly what I do today, with some cardstock thrown in here and there. I got caught up in embellishments and started collecting them. But with a large family, that became too expensive. That’s one of the reasons we began to create templates to use instead of the expensive embellishments. I still have embellishments from years ago! Paper companies that I loved included: My Mind’s Eye, Echo Park, Carta Bella, Authentique, Chatterbox, Cosmo Cricket, Rusty Pickle, October Afternoon, Sassafrass Lass, Crate Paper, BoBunny, Basic Grey….too many to list. I love paper!!

Before Kiwi Lane

Here are photographs of a few of my Layouts before we created Kiwi Lane.

How would of having the Designer Templates when you first started made scrapbooking easier for you?

I am very visual, so it was really hard for me to figure out what my layout was going to look like in my head.  I couldn’t scrapbook that way. Some turned to sketching and some, like me, would sit and stare at my paper for hours…afraid to cut it in case the layout didn’t work and I lost that paper.  I had several layouts that were half-done laying around. I was frustrated. Creating designer templates was the solution for me. Using templates, I could design and see the layout before I cut my paper, and I loved it!  I started scrapbooking again and was able to get lots and lots of layouts added to my albums – – and I had fun doing it!

Because of Kiwi Lane

Here are photographs of a few of my Favorite Kiwi Lane Scrapbooking Layouts.

I hope that you enjoyed reading and seeing a little bit about my Scrapbooking Style and how it’s changed over the years and for the better because of our Play To Create System.
