If you know me, you know how obsessed I am with alpacas. I first fell in love when I traveled to Peru in 2013, and since then I’ve wanted to do a shoot with these lovely animals! When I moved to New York in 2015, I had no idea that there were even alpaca farms here- I did a quick google search and found Faraway Farms– owned by Leda and Steve- in Yorktown Heights and paired up with Justine with Together Events & India with IndyFaso to bring this idea to life.

I honestly had no idea how this would all come together- bridal fashion and alpacas, but I trusted India and Justine’s vision, we collaborated on a mood board together full of indigos, deep reds and greens to brighten up the winter scene. Thankful to these ladies for trusting my creative brain for this styled shoot.

This project was so meaningful for me because I had an idea for a shoot and it actually came together more beautifully than I could have ever imagined. Everyone worked so hard that day- it was not easy coordinating cars full of florals and vendors/models, but Leda and Steve couldn’t of been more warm and welcoming to their farm and I just loved spending the day there with all my fluffy alpaca friends!

I’m thrilled to share that this shoot was featured on Wedding Chicks and below you’ll find the whole team of vendors who made this happen!

Brita from Filigree Suppers held a Haiku dinner in New York at Frankie’s 457 Spuntino last May. It was full of local vendors and impeccable food. Tall candles lit the tables with each guest receiving a personalized haiku as they chatted over stuffed artichokes and sipped bright aperol cocktails.

We spent an evening in their neighborhood, Fort Greene. They started with cocktails at their favorite neighborhood spot, followed by wandering around the neighborhood brownstones and finishing with tacos at Tacombi.

I love summer sessions in New York and any time spent with Tyler and Michelle is a treat. Fantastic humans who really are just incredible to be around!

It’s hard to believe this session was almost a year ago! I loved Elizabeth’s style on her maternity session, that pink off the shoulder dress was the perfect compliment to that morning light we had. Such a lovely time documenting them before their little one arrived! Fashion goals!

A small summer ceremony overlooking the boats in Central Park followed by portraits in The West Village and an intimate candlelit dinner at Casa Apicii’s speakeasy Bar Fortuna.

I love small elopements in New York! We get time to explore the city for portraits and create some magic. It was so lovely to document Flora and Will’s nuptials!

Kelly and Gordon got married on a Sunday in June surrounded by their closest friends and family. This one was extra dear to my heart as Kelly is my very good friend Tim’s sister, who is married to one of my best friend’s, Stephanie. It was so very special to document this quiet, relaxed and joyful day.

I flew in that morning, got my rental car, and started photographing Kelly getting ready at her parents house before we all went over to Molly Ward Gardens together for the ceremony and reception. I loved getting photos with their dog Oscar and his puppy friends! We spent some time walking around the stunning gardens, taking portraits and even dashed over to the road for some of my favorite images of the day.

I couldn’t be happier for them- super thankful to have been there and to have really felt part of the wedding. It was beautiful. Here’s to you. <3

Happy New Year! I have so many thoughts on 2019 and all I want to accomplish, but today I did something rare, which is start to finish editing a shoot and then immediately prep it for a blog post. I find so often I overthink this process and get burnt out from looking at the images I’ve been working on, and then I say “I’ll blog it another time” when the reality is that rarely happens and I just sit on them for years with only sharing a frame or two on my Instagram.

When I started this blog, I kept up with posts way more often than I do now, partly because I wasn’t as busy, but another part was I just wanted to put out the work I was proud of at that moment. I’d write snippets and people used to comment back on posts, but over the years the game has changed. Photographers stopped blogging as everything moved to Instagram. I’ve missed the story telling element of sharing my work, so I’m determined to bring it back in my life if only for myself.

//

Dorothy and I have been friends now for almost 11 years! We met in photography school and we literally learned how to focus, compose, and light things together. I remember going on a photo walk with her and Rob and we took portraits of each other with our 40Ds at the Santa Barbara pier. Now fast forward and she has been married for 2 years to Aaron and has a the sweetest baby, Libby.

When Dorothy asked if I would come take some photos and hang out for a little bit, I of course rushed over even though my schedule in September was jam packed. It was pouring out rain and all I could think about on the way was how much work I had to do, but I wanted to make a few hours for my good friend when she was visiting New York. I walked up to this brown stone and my jaw dropped. They were renting this for one night for their anniversary and it was easily the most beautiful place I’ve ever set foot in since I’ve lived in Brooklyn.

The gloomy, rainy day created a lovely fog on the large windows and it was easy for me to get quickly inspired by this entire place. We didn’t have much time, we were all hungry and excited for drinks and a snack, so I just started shooting like crazy, trying new things, laughing and just falling in love with photography all over again. We shot just over an hour and I just can’t believe all the variety we got in one space.

Some of my favorite work I’ve ever created is below and it’s even more special because it’s of Dorothy and her Aaron and I just love them so much. I am lucky and grateful to do what I LOVE for a living and just thankful for this creative burst in the middle of my wedding season editing and shooting madness.

After everything I’ve been through this past year, this hour was a special gift I’ll never forget. Happy Anniversary you two. <3

Elena + Noah. Where do I even start with these two silly sweet, fall on the floor laughing, amazing people? I knew that we were going to have an incredible time together after photographing their engagement session that ended in hot dogs after running around Central Park in the summer heat. It’s moments and people like these that make photographing weddings turn into unforgettable experiences in life.

I love that all they cared about all day is everyone enjoying themselves- the “Just have fun! Don’t stress! Let’s party” mindset made documenting this an absolute blast. We did photos at their favorite date spot in Grand Central, The Oyster Bar, and utilized the energy of NYC streets for portraits. Their ceremony was officiated by both of their mothers and and everyone jumped high and danced hard with their kick ass band.

What’s even better is that we are friends in real life, with enjoying cocktails and good food together whenever we have a break in our schedules. (I think we are due for another hang out, you two!) I just adore them and they adore each other and it makes the world a better place.

This family is SO special to me, and it was everything to me to get to document them again, this time, Val and her girls in the bright summer light. Val makes me laugh on a regular basis with her banter and hysterical (like seriously fall off your chair funny) texts since I met her 6+ years ago. Her fiery spirit is infectious and she is one of the best moms I know. Her girls are the center of her world and I love how REAL it feels in her house- one minute they are all fighting, and then the next everyone is hugging and being sweet. Lola is strong and feisty, Olivia is shy and curious. I love all the moments I’ve shared with the Spring family over the years (Chris I’m looking at you too!) and am so grateful to have them in my life. They feel like family and I can’t wait to see them when I’m in Seattle TOMORROW!

These images are honestly some of my favorite family photos yet and I can’t express how much I LOVE documenting at home family sessions. I feel like you really do get a glimpse into the daily life of a family- playing, running around, and making new memories. If you’d like a session like this, I’d love to document a day in the life of your family!
