June & January believes that kids are fun, and their clothes should be, too. Our aesthetic is full of bright colors and bold prints, with modern babies, tots and kiddos in mind. We started with baby girl headbands but now feature hip toddler clothing and other cute hipster clothes online.
For Mothers Day we decided to celebrate our favorite mamas, YOU! If I were forced to pick a favorite event that we have hosted, this would have to be it. It was full of margaritas, meditation, treats, and included all the best people. I don't know if I've hammered this in enough, but if you are in or near Austin and can make our events, it needs to be a priority to get there! Trust me!
We were able to host this event at The Riveter and it was such a great space! Day to day this is a coworking space in downtown Austin, but you never would have known that! It is so beautifully designed that it turned into a mama haven in no time at all.
We started the event with a sound bath/meditation with Taylor and let me tell you, it was amazing! I've never actually experienced a meditation class and I have been missing out big time! If you came in to this event stressed, it all went out the door the moment Taylor started talking. Pure bliss.
CBD is something I've been dying to try, but didn't want to spend the money on just yet. There can be so many CBD brands out there that it can feel overwhelming. The moment I walked up to Fine Healing Goods table I knew I was purchasing. These products not only work but they are also incredibly beautiful. I left with a bottle and have slept like a baby ever since. Im hooked!
Who wouldn't want to get their hair braided while holding a margarita in one hand and a baby in the other!? I watched mama after mama walk up and say something like, "I'm so sorry, my hair is a mess!" and 10 minutes later they got out of the chair in pure amazement over what Cassidy was able to do. She is a hair genius.
I have to be honest, when I see a margarita in a bottle I look the other way. Living in Austin, I have very high standards for what a margarita should be. Very high. When Austin Cocktails showed up I was a little hesitant. The moment their bottled margarita hit my mouth I was done for. No more are the days of buying a million items to make the perfect marg at home. Because, these are the PERFECT marg. I didn't see an empty hand or a leftover drop at the event and that is proof enough.
Face mist station. Need I say more? Sentrel Natural Beauty made our face mist dreams come true when we were able to concoct our own personal formula. I have used my mist every single day since the event and I swear, my face feels like a new woman.
I will be dreaming about those Churro Brownies from Taco Ranch until the end of time. They are basically what would happen if a snickerdoodle cookie and a churro had a baby. And don't get me started on the chips and salsa. I don't think there is a combo that makes me happier in life than a margarita and chips and salsa. And this combo was so dang good. My family will be making a trip to Taco Ranch very soon.
Just in case you didn't know, we have the BEST swag bags at our events. If you are curious about the amazing brands that spoil our mamas, look at this post here!
This was such a beautiful celebration and the ultimate day off for the best mamas. We were honored to donate 100% of proceeds to St. Louise House. I hope you've enjoyed following along and I also hope I convinced you to come hang out with me at the next event!
We know Mothers Day is over, but does that mean we should stop treating ourselves? No way. We have compiled a "I didn't get exactly what I wanted this mothers day, so I'm going to put matters into my own hands" kind of list. So get to shopping, mamas!
We recently took a quick weekend trip to Chattanooga and I have to tell y'all all about it! I have to be honest, I wasn't expecting it to be as cute as it was. But holy cow Tennessee, you are real pretty. Chattanooga is the PERFECT weekend getaway with kiddos! There is just enough to pack in for a weekend, but maybe not enough for a full week. When I say we packed it in... we really packed it in. This was a nap on the go/walk until your feet are going to fall off kind of weekend. So here we go!
We started off at Rembrandts Coffee and I had the best breakfast sandwich and latte of my life. There is no photographic evidence of this because... well it was just too good to pause for photos.
After Rembrandts we walked to Hunter Museum of American Art. This was the first time I've taken my kids to an art museum and I was thoroughly impressed. The museum was just the right size for my kids to run around for an hour or so. Don't miss the outdoor area with the incredible views. We could have sat there for hours taking it all in.
After the museum we headed to the Walnut Street Bridge! This is a MUST! One of the worlds longest pedestrian bridges and built in 1890, it really is just one of the most beautiful walks you will take. Once across the bridge don't forget to enjoy the bottom of the bridge as well. Coolidge Park is really a great place for kids to stretch their legs and for parents to sit down and take a break. Once you're all rested up make sure to let your kids ride the Coolidge Park Carousel. If you are going in the summer they will have the splash pad on so bring a change of clothes for the kiddos!
Once you're ready for a sweet treat head over to Clumpies Ice Cream Co. I had the mint chocolate chip and it was incredible! They also had dairy free options!
When your kids are in full sugar rush from the ice cream make sure to stop by Chalk Alley! There will be pieces of chalk laying around and you can sit back and watch your little artists at work.
By this point Moses was passed out in the stroller. While he slept we headed over to Milk and Honey coffee shop and let me tell you. So. Dang. Good. Again, no photographic evidence of the coffee, smoothies, or treats. You understand, right? Don't miss Milk and Honey!
Once we were fully rested and Moses was awake, we were ready to go again. Insert exhausted feet here. Instead of heading back to rest and eat some dinner we decide to push forward and headed to Ruby Falls. I will give a big piece of advice here and say, if your kid likes to be held or is under 2 I would either bring a sling or skip. We passed Moses back and forth and my Apple Watch was giving me all the praises and awards. Millie had the best time though! And really, that waterfall was like nothing I've ever seen before! It was for sure worth the hike down!
The next day we were slow to wake up, surprise surprise. Once fully awake and caffeinated we headed to the Tennessee Aquarium and loved every single minute of it! It was more like a zoo in my opinion. There are two buildings and it took us a couple hours at least to get through it. I would make this a priority and carve out a good amount of time to see it all. The butterfly exhibit is a MUST! Millie was in pure butterfly heaven.
Chattanooga, you've officially won me over. Two days of exploring your city and I'm already to come back!
If there is one thing I know about Austin, it's that the summers are HOT. Finding places to cool off with your kids can be a challenge. Lucky for you, I've compiled my 5 favorite places to escape the heat with my kids! I hope you enjoy!
We have spent many many hot summer days at Amy's, too many to count honestly. It is the perfect place to sit in the shade, watch your kiddos play, and eat the best food. In my opinion, Phil's has one of the best burgers in Austin. Get the 78704, trust me on this one. Now let's talk Amy's Ice Creams. The one really great thing about living in Austin is that there is no shortage of Ice Cream shops. But if you want the quintessential ice cream "go to" you have to stop by Amy's! Moses has a dairy allergy, so any place that has multiple vegan ice cream options is a friend of mine. Fun trick: you can have the server split a tiny for your kids. Just ask for two half tinies and your kiddos get the perfect amount of ice cream! Oh, and did I mention that sprinkles are free for kids!? Oh Amy's, how I love thee.
If you're craving a snow cone in Austin it's very likely that you will be going to Casey's! Ask any Austin local where they are going for snow cones, and if they don't say Casey's I will be shocked. It's set on a corner lot in east Austin with the cutest little front porch you've ever seen. Their menu has just about everything you could ever want in a snow cone. Moses had the rainbow snowball and I had the cantaloupe and cream snowball, both were amazing! They also have several 100% juice snowballs as a healthier option. Casey's is a must when keeping cool in Austin!
Like I said, Austin can get HOT in the summer. Like, really really hot. Staying cool and being outdoors can be next to impossible. Thank goodness for Deep Eddy Pool! The oldest swimming pool in Texas that is anywhere from 66 to 75 °F at all times. The water comes from a hand dug 35 foot well and is not chlorinated. The world slows down a little at Deep Eddy. People of all ages enjoying the cool temps, tons of kids splashing and playing in the shallow beach like water, lovebirds snuggling on the hills, and families picnicking and enjoying the huge shade trees. That's what you will find here on a normal afternoon. Also, don't miss out on their epic movie nights in the summer! When the sun sets you can relax in the water or on the hill to watch a family friendly movie. If you're wondering where we will be this summer, its right here.
Being a true Austin hipster means you MUST appreciate local craft beer. I'm kidding! kind of... But really, a typical weekend for an Austin family is going to at least one brewery. Austin Beerworks just happens to be right around the corner, and lucky for us because this place has it all! The downfall of most breweries is the lack of food. Austin Beerworks not only has food, but they have their own food truck on site at all times! They also have an abundance of free buttery popcorn. My kids acted like they owned the place with how much popcorn was consumed. Worried about entertaining your kiddos while you try that new brew? Well, you shouldn't! They have a chalkboard, hula hoops, and plenty of shaded room to run! Austin Beerworks makes for the perfect Saturday afternoon with your kids!
Last but certainly not least, Splash Shack! This indoor water park was MADE for parents that need a break. I don't think there is more than 2 inches of standing water anywhere in this building, which makes for stress free water play! I don't know about you, but when it comes to my kids swimming I turn into full helicopter mom. Being able to sit down and watch my kids play in the water was one for the books. Also, no need for sunscreen! Can I get an amen!? The ONLY downfall of this incredible place is that they don't allow outside food to come in, and when my kids swim they get HUNGRY. We had to leave and make a picnic on the concrete outside. It's not a huge hassle, but definitely something to think about when preparing. Splash Shack will be seeing lots of us come mid summer when its too hot to do much of anything!
For this Style Corner I'm doing things a little different, I'm adding my kiddos! I wanted to give you some mama inspiration with the new cobalt star that's coming soon. Summer wardrobes can be the most fun to put together. These outfits are purely Target + J&J because, is there anything else? I hope you are inspired!
My name is Shannon Powers. I am 31-years-old with two kiddos: Max is 5 and Freya is 3. I am a military spouse and I’m from England originally! I work in Customer Service as a Customer Service Specialist. If you email in, I might be on the other side of the screen! I love working with the Customer Service Team because we all care so much about you—our customers! I never thought that I would work here, but it’s been a really great addition to my life as we are a military family and constantly moving! We just moved from the east coast to Oklahoma and I really needed something to keep me occupied. When I am not working, you'll find me planning in my Happy Planner, singing, writing, or helping others with car seats as a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructor.
I originally learned about J&J through GroVia Families when my youngest was about 3 months old. I didn’t believe the hype until I bought some stuff off of the BST and saw the quality. The first thing I bought directly from the company was, among other things, a Soft Mint Stripe Tank Jumper for my littlest girl. Once I got that I was hooked! My kids were comfy and stylish! It’s the best combination for children’s clothing, ever.
My favourite J&J piece is Basic Pants because they are so versatile and last well between kiddos. They match everything, which helps too! Beyond everything though, my kids are comfortable in them and they are stylish. I love the slimmer cut of the pant because they’re so flattering on kiddos, no matter their size!
Easter is right around the corner! !n preparation we decided to throw the most eggcelent Easter Egg Hunt that Austin has ever seen! This family friendly event had just about everything your little bunnies could ever need. We had the yummiest treats, the best swag, Easter eggs full of even MORE swag. There were lots of bubbles, oh, and don't forget the balloons, so many balloons! The Carpenter Hotel was the perfect place for this beautiful spring day. If you weren't able to make this event, we hope you can hop on over to our next one!
