When the back pain is too much even when not carrying a backpack, the curious turn to the question “how much do my breasts actually weigh?” It might be awkward to just throw them on a scale (and inaccurate besides). Fortunately, there are a few other methods, though they may seem no less awkward. And remember the weight of heavy breasts can be lifted with a properly fitted bra, that band should be nice and snug, doing all of the lifting so your back doesn't have to!!!

7 Easy Steps detailed as well below.

  • Weigh a tray and record
  • Fill a bowl to the brim with water
  • Submerge your boob completely into the water, and wait for the water to stop overflowing
  • Lift your boob out and remove the bowl

The Water Displacement Method

 1)  The most accurate at-home method of weighing your breasts is to submerge them in a bowl of water filled to the brim and set it on a tray. After you submerge one breast fully in the water it will displace some of the water into the tray. You can then weigh the water-filled tray and subtract the weight of the tray, this will leave you with the weight of the water, which you then convert to the weight of breast tissue.
You can easily perform this at home with the following simple items:

  • A kitchen scale. A regular bathroom scale won't be as accurate; you need a scale that measures down to fractions of an ounce.
  • A bowl large enough to hold one breast.
  • A tray to catch the water displaced by your breast. Make sure it's a waterproof tray large enough to hold the bowl, with sides high enough to hold the water without spilling any.

2) You will then need to weigh the empty tray, before it gets filled with water. This way you can subtract that weight from the weight of the tray once it's filled with water and come up with an accurate weight of the water. Go ahead and set the scale to ounces and then set the tray on the scale and record your weight .

3) You will then need to take the tray and set it on a flat surface, fill the bowl that is large enough to fit your breast comfortably, to the brim with water and set it in the middle of the tray. It is important you fill the bowl to the brim so you get and exact measurement of the overflow. If you do not fill the bowl to the brim you will not get the correct amount of overflow, therefor giving you an inaccurate weight. Also, do this without any bra or clothing obstructing the breast and in a place that's private, we don't wanna give away our secrets!! Make the water temperature is suitable for you before you submerge your breast in it.

4) Check that the bowl is in the middle of the tray so you have enough room on all sides for the overflow of water. Bend over and submerge your entire breast in the bowl all the way to your rib cage and chest wall. You want to make sure all of your breast tissue is in the bowl. The water will overflow into the tray, being careful the water stays in the tray and doesn't splash out or overflow, so no double dipping, as this will give you incorrect results.

5) Once your entire breast has been submerged and water is no longer overflowing, gently lift your breast out and take the water filled tray to the scale, being careful not to spill any water or stand in front of a window! Record the weight of the tray filled with water, then subtract the weight of the tray alone from the weight of the tray filled with water. This will give you the weight of the water displaced. (For instance if your water filled tray weighs 30 oz and the tray alone weighs 10 oz, then the weight of the water displaced in 20 oz.) By gosh, I think we've got it!!   Speaking of submerging our breasts in water, lets think Summer, and bra sized swimwear!!

Multiply the water weight by 0.9
20 oz X .9 =18 oz

6) Now we have to do a little science, we have to convert the weight of the water to the weight of breast tissue. No worries, this is easy you don't need your thinking cap!!! Since your breast tissue has a different density than water, we have to use a simple conversion to determine the weight of your breast. Simply multiply the weight of the water by 0.9. So in the example above your water weight was 20 ounces, so multiply 20x 0.9 to come up with 18 ounces! Your breast weighs 18 ounces and since 1LB = 16 oz. Your breast weighs 1lb 2 oz. Ta-Dah!!!   Since each of our breasts are not equal you can repeat these steps for your other breast, if you would like to know exactly what each breast weighs or just for a really cool party trick!! Now that you know the weight of your breasts, come in and see us for great fitted supportive bras!

If you aren't up for sloshing around in water, just take a look at the charts below they give estimated weights based on bra sizes in US sizing and U.K sizing. This may not be the most accurate weight but it sure is a starting point on estimated breast weight! Just remember, just because you bought your bra in the U.S. does not make it a US size bra, you need to know the manufacturer and if they do their sizing based on the U.S. or U.K. scale.

When I start to talk about the giant powerhouse that is taking over e-commerce, we all know who I am referring to. It is written everywhere about the Amazon effect, and how this dominating online sales company is sending many brick and mortar stores into bankruptcy. The name Amazon effect refers to the early and continuing domination in online sales, which has disrupted many online retailers and brick and mortar stores.

The very reason Amazon has become such a power house is their ability to get product to the customer in record time, merely a day or two. While, speed is an exceptional thing and well let's face it, who wouldn't want their items delivered a day or two faster than the standard 3-5 days delivery times; does a day or two really matter? Is that day or two worth putting your local shop out of business?   As Americans , have we become so desensitized and privileged that we can't even walk out of our homes and travel a few minutes to our local stores to buy our products? Or, do we we no longer know or care to know how to interact with humankind? Is this really the World we want our Children growing up in, all technology and no human contact or compassion? This is what one-click shopping is doing, creating zombies that will no longer care, or even know how to socialize with each other. Is "just a click away" really that important to us?

I know what you are thinking, I am so busy and Amazon makes shopping easier that I have more time to spend home with my family or friends. Believe me, as a Mother of 3 and trying to run a business, I understand the importance of family and time management. I understand how "just a click away" can be so important in our daily rat race of a life. However, I do believe that there are limits to what Amazon should be used for. Do you really want to purchase your bra from the same company that sells tires? Do you really think they know or care about how you look and feel in your bra or how that bra effects you every day of your life if it is the wrong fit?? This is where I believe we have to draw the line and realize that somethings just can't be a click away. We need to take the time and walk into a brick and mortar for certain items such as a proper bra fitting by a trained professional. We need to know and care that every time we click that button, we are potentially putting another strain on a local family that depends on your support and loyalty. We NEED to stop the Amazon effect.

Many lingerie stores have become victims of the Amazon effect, one of the most recent Lingerie Lingerie. A company that has been fitting and helping customers locally for over 28 years. This is becoming a trend in brick and mortar locations, and the only ones that can stop this is the consumer. Amazon has it's place in the retail world for sure, but it should never have a place in the lingerie world. If this trend continues in the direction it has taken the past few years, I can guarantee many lingerie stores that offer personal fittings and one on one customer service such as Hourglass Lingerie, will be a thing of the past. Where will you then get properly fitted, how will you know and understand and teach your little girls or nieces how a bra should look and feel? That the band should be snug, and the cups should not be overflowing, that the straps should not be digging into your shoulders, or your boobs sliding underneath the underwire. I am not saying all lingerie stores have sales associates with this type of knowledge or have been to fit schools to ensure you are getting the best possible support and lift to prevent your breasts from sagging in the future. I can however, give you my guarantee that when you step foot into Hourglass Lingerie you are going to be treated with the utmost respect and with welcoming arms and atmosphere, and you will walk out with a new found knowledge of how your bra should fit as well as a new love for your bra! Let's begin to care about local businesses again and the people that put their customers first, knowing that you and only you are our families life line. Let's begin to hault the Amazon effect and know their place in the retail world as well as brick and mortar companies.

There is much contraversy surrounding whether a woman should or shouldn't wear a bra to bed. Can it cause future problems, does it prevent sagging? Well, there hasn't been any studies indicating that wearing a bra to bed links to cancer or that wearing a bra to bed prevents sagging. However, wearing a bra to bed for pure comfort has been proven! If you are large busted, and yes ladies, large busted can mean anywhere from a C cup depending on your body frame; wearing a WIREFREE bra while sleeping can bring considerable comfort!

The Anita Maternity bra is one I wear every night to to bed, I am a HH cup, and find while sleeping my boobs really get in the way and cause discomfort therefore lack of sleep. I tried out the Anita 5197 Maternity Bralette and can I say LOVED IT!!! It is super soft and comfy, but more importantly it gives just the right amount of support overnight without being restrictive. I would really encourage any women to invest in this wirefree bralette for comfortable soft suppot while sleeping.

The sizing on this item is S-2XL, this is a stretchy bra both in the cups and the band so you can play around with sizing a bit. I have attached a chart as a visual aid in helping choose a size, this chart is approximate and based on customer reviews. I am a 36HH and comfortabley wear an XL.

Headaches can be one of the worst pains to deal with aside from toothaches. They make it hard to focus, think and sometimes even just get out of bed. We all understand the pains and how much of a struggle it is to just go through the motions of our day when struck with a headache. However, have you thought about the cause of your headache, the root of the evil that holds us down. Headaches present at the worst times and take many different forms, and knowing the type of headache we have is the first step in alleviating the pain.

Did you know that wearing the wrong size bra can add to or even be the cause of your daily headaches or neck pain? Wearing a bra that isn't fitted properly puts the weight of your breasts on your shoulders which directly causes neck pain because your shoulders and neck share the same muscles.

Do you find yourself always tightening your straps to get your boobs higher? Is this how your bra fits you? If this is how your bra is fitting, this could be a main contributor to your neck pain and tension headaches!

Is your band constantly riding up your back? If your band is always going North, your boobs don't have anywhere to go but South! This band is a sign of an ill fitted bra, and possibly a major contributor to your tension headaches!

I'm certainly not a Doctor, but I have been in business long enough to see many of my clientele walking in with a bra that fits this exact way, and almost every one of them complaining of neck pain, lower back pain, and headaches. After being fitted in their proper size, they immediately see a difference in their posture and begin to feel a difference of the weight being taken off their shoulders and lower back. I believe 30 minutes of your day is worth that! Imagine living your life pain free and having your clothes fit better. It's a WIN-WIN!

Breasts lifted and fully supported, takes the weight off my shoulders. I do not need to over tighten the straps to get my support, therefore I will not have shoulder strain or indentations.

Measure your waist directly under your breasts, this should be the size of your band. A well fitted snug band stays in place parallel to the floor, without ever riding up. This gives your breasts all the support they need! * your cup size will go up once you go down in the band

Take a chance on me, schedule a fitting today! What do you have to lose but that painful headache, neck pain and shoulder strain!

So many women believe they are a D, DD or DDD cup, because they have been told this by Family, Friends or maybe even so called professional bra fitters for years. We have a tendency to believe everything that is told to us, because that is nature of the beast, we are kindhearted and believe the best in people and really believe our tribe is always there to help us.   However, many companies out there are not telling us the truth. Flaunting super models at us baiting us to buy their bras, claiming they are angels! Well here it is, they are far from angelic, and the truth is bra fitting is a simple math and most women have no idea. I know it is boring and verbatum to tell you how a bra should fit and how other companies are doing it all wrong, so I will show you with pictures. Now, as I said before many companies are using models and guru tactics to make you believe they have all the answers, but here it is plain and simple by a natural woman who started a busines on the belief of honesty, integrity and truely wanting to help other women. So speak easy and know I'm not a model just a Mom trying to help every lady love her bra!   Let us help you, call for a fitting today!!!

In the picture above I'm wearing a 46DDD. As you can see I am covered and by most eyes look like what you may expect out of a bra. However, this bra is really doing nothing for me at all but covering my nipples. I would say that 80% of my customers come to me looking like this in their bra, so this is the "norm" for most women. Look at how my boobs are basically still just hanging low in these cups. 1) BREASTS THAT ARE NOT SUPPORTED AND LIFTED CAUSE THE LIGAMENTS TO STRETCH LEADING TO SAGGY BREASTS AS WE AGE. 2)You can also see on my left side under my arm I have a lot of boob hanging out. 3)Check out the distance from the beginning of my boobs to the bow at the middle of the bra, and the fact that I am already a bit hunched over just from putting this ill fitted bra on for 5 mins as a demonstration. 4) My boobs are spilling out of the bottom of the band, this is due to the band being way too large and cups being too small. Although the band is set on the tightest hooks it is still waayyy to big.     However, this is acceptable as a propely fitted bra to many larger companies that are profiting on making customers believe this is the way it should be.

Now, the truth is exposed!! This is me in my proper size a 36HH, right off the bat you can see a huge difference! 1)First, notice my posture, I'm able to stand up tall and proud. 1) Wearing the wrong size bra will cause our shoulders to hunch over from the weight of our breasts.   Check out the distance from the beginning of my breasts to the top of the bra, much shorter, right? This is because the cups are larger therefore, accommodating all of my breast tissue so they can be lifted and supported. 2) You do not see any of my boob hanging from underneath the band, all of my breast tissue is completely inside the cups and away from the wire.   2) When the band is too large your breast tissue will spill out of the bottom of the cups, a very common issue we see on a daily basis! 3) All of my breast tissue is inside of the cups not spilling out of the tops or sides   3) In an ill fitted bra you will have breast tissue spilling out of the tops of the cups, sides and bottom.   4) The gore (center) of the bra is touching my chest wall 4) In a ill fitted bra the gore will be stuck in between your boobs not touching your chest wall  5) The band is closed on my loosest set of hooks, snug and parallel to the floor, this is extremely important in getting support. The band in this picture is holding all of the weight of my breasts, leaving my shoulders free from tension and my lower back strain free! 3) A band that is too loose and closed on the tightest set of hooks, is not doing anything for you. The band will ride up your back, and you will find yourself tightening the straps which then puts all the pressure on your shoulders causing indentations, major shoulder strain as well as hunching over.    You want to start loving your bra, give us a call or schedule a fitting!
