Shena Alsree, an emerging Tausug-Arabian-Maguindanaon fashion designer, graced the Metro Manila Designers’ Week Season 3 (MMDW3) with her “Modest Women in the Metro” Collection and was given the World Class Filipino Fashion Designer Award.
The fashion show was held on November 25, 2018 at Luxent Hotel, Quezon City. Ms. Alsree started designing kids clothes in 2014 under her label, Lil Posh. With the kids’ line, she had designed gowns for celebrity kids and did a fashion show under the said label.
In 2017, she went to Institute of Creative Entrepreneurship School of Fashion and Design (ICEFAD), a fashion school, in Metro Manila to further enhance her designing talent.
Modest fashion is still very young in the Philippine context, albeit making a name in the industry in other Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Indonesia has been leading the modest fashion sector in the ASEAN region. In fact, it is where most of the modest fashion retailers in the country import their supplies from. There is a huge and untouched market for modest fashion in the country, specifically in Mindanao; thus, this is a sector worth delving into for designers across the country.
Ms. Alsree only proves that there is a place for modest fashion in the Philippines.
