Answering all of your questions about The Keto Diet Cookbook, (my second paperback, now in bookstores!), plus how this book is different from my other books and products, what I’m working on now, and so much more.

When I think about all that can change in 9 months, it’s pretty amazing — 9 months is exactly how long it took me to get my period back, and 9 months is exactly how long it took me to write The Keto Diet Cookbook. I feel like I’ve grown so much in such a short amount of time; when I started writing my second and third paperback books 9 months ago, it was so important to include feedback from readers and listeners (like you!) to help create something that could really help people. I wanted people to feel empowered and ready to embrace change.

I read comments on social media, tons of emails, and spoke to so many people on tour about what they wanted from their keto experience… and then I wrote books to meet those needs. If you’re new to Healthful Pursuit, new to keto, or just not sure where to start when it comes to navigating all the different keto book options, this episode is for you. I’m answering your questions about my paperback books: what they entail, how they differ from each other and from my digital programs, and chatting about how you helped to shape my newest books, The Keto Diet Cookbook and Keto for Women.

Keto for women is different: we have different hormone cycles, different environmental stressors, and different needs for our low carb experience. If you’re struggling with hair loss on keto, don’t know where to start with gut health, can’t get good sleep, need to bust through a weight loss plateau on keto, or you just want to try something new, this episode is for you. Mushrooms for different ailments, getting over the weirdness of mushrooms, how to NOT eat a mushroom, and so much more.

I know what you’re thinking: mushrooms? Really, Leanne? Yes, really. I get asked all the time about how I incorporate the superfood power of mushrooms into my ketogenic practice — whether it’s Chaga, Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps, or Reishi, supplementing with mushrooms has become one of my favorite ways to give my Rocket Fuel Lattes even more of a boost. In fact, mushroom coffee is what helped me finally kick my caffeine habit!

I get it, though, because the idea of putting mushrooms in anything outside of a salad, omelette, or fancy dinner dish was definitely a foreign concept to me a few years ago — I mean, mushroom flavor in a non-savory dish? Weird! But if I know anything about myself, it’s that trying new things usually pays off for me… and in the case of using mushrooms as a superfood supplement, that’s absolutely true. I chatted with someone who knows a whole lot about mushrooms and learned way more than I thought was possible.

Finding a work/life balance has been an ongoing challenge for me; even when I don’t have a heavy workload, I love to schedule every minute of my day to be SUPER productive. But lately, I’m learning that being productive isn’t making me happy… and I’m over it!

It turns out, the key to happiness isn’t piling more on my to-do list and scheduling every minute of my day. It took living on a boat and acclimating to island time for me to realize this, so I’m sharing with you so that you can find more happiness, wherever you are.

Different ways to track macros on keto, macro tracking apps, alternatives to tracking on keto, the difference between total and net carbs, and so much more.

When I first started keto, I needed a way to know if I was doing it “right” — since I had never been aware of exactly what ketosis felt like in my body before, I wasn’t able to recognize the signs. Tracking my macros and getting to know which foods were more carb dense helped me better grasp what to eat to feel my best on keto, but I knew there had to be more to keto than macro tracking with MyFitnessPal and figuring out the difference between total carbs and net carbs.

Eventually, I got to a point where my keto approach became more intuitive, and I developed a few ways to track, or stay “on track” without tracking every little thing I ate. Ultimately, I think everyone should do what works for them, but if you’re in a keto rut, maybe you just need to switch up your method!

Overcoming fat fear, why fat is good for you, how keto works in the body, and so much more.

The idea of consuming a diet of mostly fat after so many years of eating low fat can be a bit terrifying, right? I mean, the dogma of fat fear is drilled into us: from doctors to food labels, magazines, and health resources everywhere. Fat is bad! So how can keto be good?!

It took a lot of faith for me to leap into eating keto, but once I tried it out, the benefits spoke for themselves. Keto makes me feel amazing, and my body has learned to thrive on fat. If you’re scared to jump into eating keto, I put together this episode just for you — it’s exactly what I needed way back in 2013 when I was just starting to research that crazy keto thing.

If you want even more resources on getting rid of that fear of eating fat, head on over to pages 12 and 13 of my digital program, The Keto Beginning.

How keto affects fertility, tracking your fertility, eating more plants on keto, and so much more.

One thing I love about keto is how easy it is to adapt to fit an individual’s needs. Whether you’re doing keto for weight loss, overall health benefits, or specific goals like fertility, there are tons of adjustments you can make to really find what works best in your body.

From plant based keto to carnivore, to something in between like a ketotarian approach, there’s a keto for everyone. Part of the process is embracing the fact that your body will change as it begins to heal, and being open to trying something new. That’s why I loved chatting about a bunch of different ways to adjust keto for fertility with today’s guest.

This episode covers how to tweak keto to find what feels best in your body, and that’s what my digital program, Fat Fueled, is all about. If you already have a copy, dig on in. If you want one, you can download Fat Fueled and join the secret Facebook group that we chat about in this episode.

How I started to change my relationship with my body, what I do to reframe my thinking, how keto has affected my recovery, and so much more.

When I first started working on my relationship with my body, the whole concept of “just love yourself!” was WAY intimidating and not accessible to me. I want women to feel okay with not feeling okay, and encouraged to take that first step, wherever you are.

My relationship with my body is a work in progress — intuitive eating and self-acceptance haven’t healed me completely, and I still struggle with my thoughts around body acceptance and restriction, but I’m okay with where I am. Being okay is a huge step for me, and each day, I grow and develop a greater appreciation for my body that I never thought was possible.

If you’re looking for more support as you begin to navigate having a better relationship with your body, I outlined the 21 steps that I took that really gave me that edge to start working through my relationship with my body in my 21-day Whole Keto Challenge.

What to look for in common keto products, developing keto products with real foods, keto travel, and so much more.

As more people try keto and advocate for packaged options without processed sugary junk ingredients, there are bound to be companies who try to capitalize on the opportunity to jump aboard the keto train. So how can we tell the real keto packaged goods from the “keto” frankenfoods loaded with fillers and preservatives?

I’ve said it a million times, but you can’t go wrong eating a whole foods based ketogenic diet. Just eat real food, and support companies who help make it easier to do that, whether you’re traveling or just looking for something to make your keto a little easier.

If you’re looking for more information on whole foods and why quality foods are important on your keto journey so that you can heal your body, balance your hormones, and actually shed excess weight, you can check pages 83-85 of The Keto Beginning, plus what foods to be wary of on pages 86-88.
