I am keeping it going with sharing local brands here in San Diego. I was introduced to Cosima around this time last year and I was super excited to be able to work with the team again this season. Cosima just launched their newest line recently and it is called the studio collection. The colors are bright and vibrant and the fabrics feel amazing. I had a chance to be part of their lifestyle shoot at the Lafayette Hotel, which is beautiful!! You have to check it out if you have never been there before. But, back to the looks… Check out what I wore during the shoot below.
I always love working with local businesses and artists in San Diego!! I have had the chance to be a model for Lady Cromer for a few of her collections and I love seeing what’s new each season. April (The owner of Lady Cromer) is so talented and comes up with some pretty amazing pieces.
Check out what I mean below.
Lady Cromer also designs custom pieces, so if you are looking for something extra special you should definitely give April a call.
As I write this post this is a subject that I have been so nervous to talk about. There are tons of experiences that I have been through personally that I’m sure some of you may understand and others may not understand. You know what… that is completely fine I hope that I can help you get a better understanding of what happens in my world and why I feel the way that I do.
Ok… So most people that have followed me over the years know that I started modeling a while ago (13 years to be exact), and have seen me do runway shows, photo shoots, etc. About a year or 2 ago I slowly just stopped modeling and didn’t really care to get back in to it fully right a way. Currently I am still on the fence, even though I love it so much. People have asked me quite a bit recently why they haven’t really seen me model in shows and other things. I have never really given a straight answer, because most people that have asked I don’t think understand. The fact is as an African American Brown Skin woman I have never felt accepted or loved in the industry especially in the San Diego market. My journey as a model has been the hardest thing that I have ever been through. I have walked out of photo shoots and fashion shows in tears, and have never really told any one about how I was treated or how I have truly felt. I am not writing this to bash anyone I just want everyone to know that there is a serious problem and no one is talking about it.
One thing that I do know is that I am different. I have different hair, different features, different skin tone, and body shape. You have no idea how hard it is to explain your hair texture to someone who just doesn’t get it. I was almost always the last girl to get my hair and my makeup done before a show, because the stylists had to have a meeting on the side to “figure out what to do”. It honestly tore me apart every time, but I didn’t want to be rude. I just sat there and went through the torture of not knowing if my hair or makeup was going to look decent. Being the only black girl in a lot of shows early on was hard, and I didn’t really have anyone to relate to no one would understand if I said something. If anyone ever saw me running to the bathroom before I was rushed to hurry up and get dressed, it was because I looked a mess and tried to fix what I could. I learned how to do my own make up out of necessity and started bringing my own make up bag. There was a show that I was in one time where one of the make up artists straight up said to me “I can’t do your make up.” I don’t have your shade.” I wanted to scream!!! I handed her my makeup bag and said “that‘s ok, I have my own foundation.” She barely talked to me while she did my makeup. I didn’t feel welcomed in that space or in that show at all. I can count on one hand how may times my makeup actually looked amazing during a show or shoot. I don’t think that my hair was ever that great except for when I had a wig or weave. Hair is a whole different subject that I can talk about later. The education for stylists for both hair and makeup needs to be better!! Something needs to change. It just doesn’t make sense to me that make up artists and hair stylists don’t know or won’t go out and seek more education themselves when it comes to textures and tones.
I have so many stories and examples where I haven’t been treated very fairly as a model, but I don’t want to make this a super long post. I honestly just wanted start a dialogue and let people know that black women that are not light skinned in the fashion and beauty industry are not treated like we matter. Our beauty is often praised, but is not accepted (does that make sense?? Because it doesn’t). We need to be up lifted and not treated like a prop. With that said, I am not in a hurry to get all the way back in to modeling until I feel like I get the respect that I truly deserve. I have struggled and hustled to get my name out there, but I haven’t felt like any of my efforts have been acknowledge yet.
There are quite a few colors and prints that are trending for spring, and I think that it is fun to mix and match. Here are some of my favorite colors and prints below and how I put a few looks together. I always say don’t be afraid to have fun with your style. There are some great prints and colors to choose from this season.
Leopard Print - I have always loved leopard print and it has definitely made a big come back!!
If you have been following me for a while, then you may have seen the evolution of me and my hair styles. I am someone who is not afraid to try different things and I think that hair is a ton on fun! Wigs are one way that I like to switch up my hair styles with out having to completely change anything to my natural hair. Wigs are a great protective style and a fun way to wear a different styles, textures and even try a new hair color.
Divas Wigsrecently reached out to me and asked me to do a review for them, and I was excited because I was actually thinking about what new wig style I wanted to possibly try. Perfect timing right!! I’ve been wearing my wig for a couple of weeks now, and have been playing around with the hair and styling it in different ways. Continue reading to view my thoughts below.
Length: 16 inches Left side and 14 on the right side
My cap size: Average (I have kind of a small head, so I do want to try their smaller size to compare. This size works fine for me, but I would love to see the difference.)
Lace color: Medium Brown ( It was easy for me to blend in to my natural hair line)
Cap Construction: 6 inch parting space lace front
**There are options when you order yourself to get the wig preplucked, knots bleached and you can pick what color lace that you want. You can customize any of their wigs to fit exactly the way how you want it.
The hair itself doesn’t shed a ton and it was easy to comb through. I didn’t experience any issues with tangles. I loved the texture and how luxe it felt and looked when first taking it out of the box. I can tell that they use high quality hair!! I washed and conditioned my wig when I first received it and styled it using some leave in and mousse to define the curls a little more. On a different day I blow dried and straighten the hair to see how it looked. To curl I used flexi rods on one day and then I also curled the hair using a curling iron as well. Both techniques worked!! You can see in the photos below when I wore curly and straight.
This wig is classified as glueless, but when applying I used Got 2 Be Glued, just to be safe. Can’t have any mishaps while out and about. There are combs on the inside of the wig and adjustable straps to help keep it secure.
How I styled my wigCurly
Over all I do recommend Divas Wigs!! The quality, texture and feel of the hair is amazing, and they have a ton of different styles and lengths to choose from. Use Code BLOGGAGBT01 to save 15% off of any regular price wig purchase. I can’t wait to try more styles and share them with all soon.
When packing for a trip, every inch of your suitcase is prime real estate. Frequent travelers know that it's important to commit to not over-packing. With a tight edit of travel essentials, items like an easy to pack bag, day-to-night dress, plus a chic bathing suit that works on and off the beach help cut down on just how much you have to stuff into your suitcase. This will leave room for the straw bags, spices, and maybe a souvenir or two that you plan on buying.
Below are some travel essentials that you may want to consider when planning for your trips this spring and summer season.
Not all bags are made equal. And in the case of luggage startup Away, their selection of sleek, elegant suitcases are a cut above the rest. Able to hold a surprising amount of items without compromising compact design or durability, they've quickly become a favorite of Millennial jet-setters. They also come equipped with a built-in combination lock, 360-degree spinner wheels, and an unbreakable polycarbonate shell.
When on a trip, the last thing you want to worry about is aching feet, which can quickly sour your experience and prevent you from exploring your destination. Smart packers know that it isn't the wisest to bring five different pairs of shoes, so the key is to bring one or two reliable pairs. The variety of flats and slip-ons showcased on Woman Within can be taken from the cobblestoned streets of Prague and Paris to a candle-lit dinner in Los Angeles or Charleston. Featuring padded insoles and stable heel technology they prove that style and comfort can definitely go hand-in-hand.
Gone are the days when earphones were just these little boring black pods that you didn't give a second thought to. Now, many earphones look as good as they sound. For instance, the assortment of earphones on Bose are designed with noise-canceling technology to "shut out the world" and keep ambient noise at bay — perfect for getting uninterrupted sleep on the plane or at your hostel.
Sunglasses are an absolute essential, whether you're out and about on the streets of New York or lounging on a Caribbean beach. While your staple pair will do just fine, there's nothing like a statement shape to liven up even the plainest of outfits. Some of the season’s trendiest silhouettes include pointed cat-eyes and extended wayfarers.
Double Duty Scarf
The temperatures may be warming up, but don’t retire your favorite winter accessory just yet — especially when you're on the go. Who What Wear demonstrates how to wear scarves for spring by pairing them with year-round pieces like bootcut jeans and a jacket. You can also wear it as a sarong, which makes it a versatile piece for travel.
Nourish and protect your lips at the same time with a tinted balm that contains SPF. The pop of color means you can skip the lipstick and still look photo-ready for all your travel photographs, while also making sure that your lips are moisturized and protected.
Plane rides and hotter temperatures tend to suck your skin dry, but that's nothing that a good moisturizer can't combat. This Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre is a cult classic, containing aloe vera and shea butter to deliver a dose of nourishment to your skin. It's also a godsend for colder climates.
Spring is here!!! So that means warmer weather, lighter and brighter clothing. I have added some new pieces to my closet recently that I want to share and show how I styled them. I will be mixing and matching a lot of these pieces throughout the season.

Matcha Lovers all over San Diego!!! Holy Matcha has a new location in East Village (Downtown SD). If you have never heard of Holy Matcha before they opened up in North Park 2 years ago and have been a popular instagram worthy location ever since. I had the opportunity to be able to check out both locations right before they officially opened to the public and the details in both areas do not disappoint!! You can tell that a lot of thought and detail went in to the construction and decor.
Not only that the food and drinks are a must try!!! My favorite drink is Matcha with Coconut Milk iced and the donuts are amazing!! There are lots of options if you are Gluten free or Vegan as well. I haven’t tried the waffles yet, but have heard they are to die for.
If you haven’t had the chance to go to Holy Matcha yet, you should stop by and give them a try.

A few weeks ago I went to go and check out the 41 West Condos in Bankers Hill, and it was amazing!!! Talk about home decor and condo goals!!! They had invited me to come check out their spaces and of course share it with you all. The building is not quite finished yet, but will be done in the next month or so.
When I went to view the condos, it was a rainy day, but on a clear day the views are stunning!! The 41 West sits 260’ above sea level, so it’s pretty high above the city. I got to view one of the models fully furnished and styled. the interior designers did a great job putting everything together. it gave a great idea for what can be added in. There is quite a bit of space to play!!
By the way these condos are for sale, and not for rent.
Washer and Dryer
Refrigerator and freezer
Pre wiring for internet, cable, phone and shades
Walk in Closets
Floor to ceiling windows
and so much more…
The Building features:
Underground gated parking
24 hr front desk services
Pet grooming services
and tons of other features!!
I had so much fun exploring. the floor plan that I looked at was 2 Bd 2.5 Bath and there was also a little nook for office space. The master bed room had the closet of my dreams!!!!
41 West is with in walking distance to Balboa Park, and is also close to the Hillcrest and Downtown areas.
The bathroom will make you never want to leave the house!! It includes a deep soaking tub and a shower (in the master)

Have I talked about food and healthy eating here on the blog yet? I don’t really think I have… but that is about to change!! I don’t have a strict diet, but I do like to eat clean and healthy with an occasional splurge here and there. I love food in general and I feel like a balance and good relationship with food will lead to living a more healthy life.
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to try out meals from Eat Clean Meal Prep!! I chose their vegetarian and vegan option for the week and it was interesting. I typically do eat plant based with meat here and there, but during the meal prep week I challenged myself to not eat meat at all. I actually felt really good after and want to make it more of a habit and lifestyle change for me to cut meat out of my life even more.
Eat Clean Meal Prep has all different options to choose from depending on what you prefer. They are organic, have plant based packaging and deliver all over San Diego County. They will deliver right to you and everyone is super sweet. From the emails and online service, they made sure to keep me updated with what was going on with my order.
*Breakfast (I received a variety of Over Night Oats, which is so good for on the go!! I took one to work with me every morning.)
*A few Salads (The Quinoa Salad was my favorite)
*Dinner (The Indian Paneer my was favorite)
*Seasonings, which came in handy.
I learned that I am not a fan of Tempeh!!! But you know what it is always good to try something different. I love that Eat Clean Meal Prep has so many options to choose from, so if there is something that you don’t necessarily like, you don’t have to pick that option again. The Salads were jam packed and I really liked them. I loved the juice options that they sent over as well. I am a juice and smoothie girl, so that was extra special. All of the meals had great flavor and you could tell that everything was made with fresh ingredients!!
If you are in the San Diego area you should definitely give them a try!!!
