Upgrade your bathroom space from spaztic to spa-like while staying within budget – and do those bathroom upgrades in one afternoon.
Bathroom upgrades & updates aren’t synonymous with heated floors, steam showers or even remote-controlled toilets. Although that would be nice, most of us have not recently won the lottery to make all of that happen. Instead, by paying attention to the smaller details you can create big changes.
As an ambassador with iDesign, I have a sponsored connection with iDesign, but all opinions are my own.
Out of Sight: When the eye SEES every-single-thing, it immediately feels overwhelming. Even if you have a chic container, if you can SEE all the STUFF, it’s clutter town.
For example, notice the difference in makeup storage (photo below). In the “before” photo you SEE all the makeup. In the “after” photo it’s much more hidden. Even though the amount of counter space is the same, the eye registers this as more minimalist.
Contain the Crazy: Storage containers are key for keeping your stuff contained (aka clutter-free).
Take a look at the bath towel storage. In the “before” image, the towels, although neatly folded, add more for the eye to take in. But check out how much of a difference it feels in the “after” photo from rolling and placing in a clear container.
Same Old, Same Old: As you start to gather storage containers for your bathroom, keep them the same (or similar.) The “clear storage” theme keeps it within one style to contribute to a calm, spa-like vibe.
Bottle it Up: Bottles of products from various brands looks junky, at best. The assortment of sizes, brand logos, color schemes, and writing is a major eye-sore. Instead of displaying all those brand bottles, empty the contents of soap, lotion or shampoo into a dispenser. Even by adding MORE to the bathroom countertop (after photo), the cohesive look of the marbled containers and dispenser looks luxe and clean.
Consistency is Key: No need for “matchy-matchy” items in an updated bathroom, but you do want to think about keeping it consistent. For example, in the before photo, the odd collection of “trinket” decor seems random. The “after” photo’s white and marble palette is cleaned up and consistent while still allowing space for jewelry.
Hide & Seek:Bathrooms require certain supplies (talkin’ about toilet paper, toilet bowl brushes, etc…) but who says we want to see it? By cleverly keeping within a minimalist theme you can be sneaky in your storage. Notice in the before photo that the toilet bowl cleaner is trying to hide, but we all know what it is. In the after photo, the brush with cleaning solution is contained in the tall, white storage unit. A small change makes a big visual difference.
So Fresh & So Clean-Clean: Real talk: Bathtub mats get omg-gross. Despite valiant efforts, the struggle is real. And the ick is intense. Time to replace that mat for a fresh, clean start.
Less is More: Simply switching up a brown woven storage basket to a clear one lightens up the look. It’s a way to create an optical illusion of more space. Done & done.
Effortlessly organize and decorate your everyday living spaces…
You had me at “let’s go shopping!” But hold up, wait a minute – before you shop ’til you drop and bust out your budget before you can even say “bankruptcy”, there are a 5 major questions to ask yourself before making that purchase.
K, So Tell Me More…
Shopping as “something fun to do” can lead you down a never-ending-money mess. Sorry to be a buzzkill, but it’s just not worth it. To untangle what you really should buy over just a “fun” purchase there are 5 questions to help keep your wardrobe and budget in check. No pressure, but time to clean out your closet. Take inventory.
Do you already own something just like it?
Twinning? Just how many black v-neck tees do you need? Know what I mean? Unless you need a replacement for a worn-out item, it’s probs not the smartest budget move to buy more of the same.
What are you shopping for?
#Goals. Why you are shopping? Are you looking for a pair of dressy pants because all you own are jeans and every-single-time you go out for “brunch” and want to wear pants you don’t have that sophisticated option? Do you need a chic dress to wear in the spring because you currently only own wool dresses and that’s just not going to work in 90′ weather? Fill in gaps in your wardrobe.
What’s the Cost Per Wear?
Math (in the real world!) means being totes OK to spend a big-ol-chunk-o-change for something that you will wear a lot. For example, splurging on a pair of classic denim like these makes perfect sense. You will wear them all the time because they won’t stretch all out of shape, they will make you look ahhhhhhhmazing (by how professionally structured the jeans are constructed) and they won’t fade as much (as cheaper denim) over time. Here’s the math: Wearing a $200 pair of jeans just once a week over a year (or more because they will last that long or longer!) will “cost” you approximately $4 per wear. Compare that to a pair of $40 jeans that you wear twice because they stretch out, make your butt look saggy and obvi are NOT flattering will cost you $20 per wear until you donate them to Goodwill.
How’s the fit?
Clothing MVP Status. If you are tugging on it already in the store’s dressing room this is not going to end well. Once you try it on you should look like the BEST version of yourself. Anything less than that? Don’t buy it. You won’t wear it because it won’t boost your confidence or make you look like the babe you are.
What will you wear it with?
Options: the Spice of Life. While debating about a piece of clothing on your long walk from the dressing room to the checkout counter, think about what you would want to wear that item with. If you can name at least 6 different outfit ideas, get it. But – if you are struggling to think of anything except jeans to wear it with, put it back on the rack.
Next time you’re out shopping take me along with you (figuratively, I guess…) to help you shop smarter.
This post is sponsored by Holigos but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
Fun fact: Up to 15 % of us suffer from stuff like diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain and bloating.
Don’t need that in our lives, right? I feel you. Bloating is no bueno when it comes to fashionable looks. Not only is it a majorly uncomfortable sitch, but it’s also something that makes us feel not so fab. What to do about it? Drumroll, please. Have you heard of Holigos? Stay with me… let me explain.
Holigos IBS is the latest/greatest bestie to irritable bowel syndrome to help manage that ick condition in a unique way. Talkin’ something NEW & IMPROVED, y’all! Doesn’t just reduce the symptoms, but addresses all of those causes that are totally tied into our diet and lifestyle. Can’t hate on that, can you?
Like lots-o-people, IBS symptoms appear out of nowhere (hello bad timing) or when you have a million things to do (but need to need to hang a “do not disturb” sign on your bathroom door instead.) All of these scenarios usually won’t turn out too well, right? That’s where Holigos comes into the picture and becomes a game-changer.
Huh? First, research has shown that many people suffering from IBS have an unbalanced gut microbiome (aka wonky-ness with the tummy.) The HNOs in Holigos IBS are unique in how they selectively feed your own good gut bacteria. So what? That lets them grow and flourish which is tricky for bad bacteria to keep on keepin’ on.
Let’s shine a little light on our intestinal barrier. Working 9 to 5 in keeping out bacteria, allergens, and toxins. And you think your job is rough. The thing is that a dysfunctional intestinal barrier is common among IBS peeps. Think of HNOs as the best buffet of the food your good bacteria uses to produce nutrients essential for a strong intestinal barrier.
HNOs are like a snuggly blanket to our intestinal barrier. Supporting the production of good bacteria, reducing stress on our immune systems and wrapping it all up with vital nutrients. This creates a positive cycle of a healthy gut leading to a balanced immune system, thereby providing fundamental relief from IBS.
It’s possible (in the first few days after starting to take Holigos IBS), you may experience some mild gas. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. But – this is usually temporary and only happens because of your digestive system adjusting to Holigos IBS.
How bad is it? Compare it to the feeling you have if you increase your fiber intake.
And how long might you be gassy, you ask? For most, only a week or two. But if it lasts longer or if you experience more severe symptoms after taking Holigos IBS, stop taking the product.
Goal: live your best life and say bye gurl, bye to bad vibes. Easiest way to shake off the “Monday-ist of Monday” days is with self-care. AKA, put yourself first for a second. And while we’re putting ourselves first, let’s make it happen in a “glam” way. Self-care ideas with a chic upgrade.
Rule #1: Once you remember who you are (at heart), the game changes. It’s OK (and TBH, totally normal) to make mistakes or have a bad day (or a few in a row…been there) or feel empty thanks to negative ick from others. When you are NOT allowing yourself time to mend from any of that is no bueno for the soul. If you don’t love yourself and take care of your heart, you won’t be able to leave behind what is unhealthy or unkind (people, jobs, beliefs, habits…). All of that ick is keeping yourself small. Recognize when someone treats you wrong and let it go with self-care.
Self-Care Ideas to do Today
Meltdowns are ok, just remember not to unpack and live there. Self-care time, y’all! Yes, “bath bombs” or walks in a park are all fine and dandy, but also kinda “meh” ideas, IMO. When in need of prioritizing your emotions and putting yourself first we need some self-care upgrades. And you want ideas that are PROVEN to work, right? Self-care, self-pampering and self-indulgence ideas can all blur together, but basically, it’s putting yourself first and making it happen in the moment with what you have (time, money, space). Energize your stressed-out self back to a positive place. Because, #GoodVibesOnly.
Dine Out: Stick the Stouffers back in the freezer. Go get take-out or make a reservation for a restaurant that you LOVE or have never been to (but reeeeeeally want to!). Order dessert.
Secret Bedtime: Remember as a kid hating your early bedtime but now desperately missing those days? Take one right now. Put on your snuggliest pajamas and go to be when YOU want to. No judgment.
Get a Free Pass: If Sunday is synonymous with laundry or vacuuming, take a “free pass” on one of those days to do something YOU love. Could be Netflix binge-watching, going to the art museum, or even taking long, romantic walks down the aisles at Target. Your choice, your “free pass” day.
Small Stuff: If you only have an hour or two, try dedicating that to something small but happy. Could be adding all kinds of things to your online shopping cart (but maybe never purchasing) or scrolling through the iPhone App store to discover something new or even lying on your back on your unmade bed in total silence.
Sorry, I’m Busy: Here’s a thought – why not stay IN on a Saturday night? Plans, shmans. Wish you could, but you can’t. Already have plans. Decline whatever invitation is looming and do your OWN thing at home, which may include Words with Friends on the couch.
Daily To-Do: Every-single-day you need to write down 1 thing that you are grateful for or that made you smile or that was something happy you saw. Get a dollar journal at Michaels or splurge on a fancy, schmancy one at Kate Spade, but either way, take 5 minutes at the end of every day to jot it down. As your year goes on this will be a major, magical source of inspiration for you. Trust me. Or… you can get a pre-prompted journal to respond to each day. You’ll love THIS journal (below)!
