Flowers  provide  the finishing touch to any occasion.

This setting would be lovely for an outdoor wedding or event.

Lizianthus are beautiful flowers that come in shades of purple, mauve, pink and white.

They resemble a rose with long pointed buds and they are fairly long lasting.

A mauve silk drape is used as a backdrop in a shade that compliments the flowers.

A stone look urn is used as a base.

The bottom of the urn has been filled almost to the top with crumpled paper.

A piece of plastic has been placed on top of the paper (a garbage bag will do.)

A full block of florist foam has been soaked in water for several minutes and then placed on top of the paper.

The foam needs to sit at least 5cm higher than the edge of the container so the side stems can be inserted into the foam

Any spaces around the foam can be filled in with other soaked offcuts of foam or crumpled paper.

The foliage (ivy) has been cut to the desired length and inserted around the edges to extend downwards.

The lizianthus stems have been cut to the desired length – about one and a half the height of the container and inserted in the centre and then around having each round slightly lower.

The shape should be rounded across the top when viewed side on.

A few buds have been inserted in the top of the arrangement.

The flowers should be lightly sprayed with water and the foam topped up each day.

I hope all is going well with you.

Mother’s Day is on 14th of May.

A lovely way to express your feelings on Mother’s Day is with a gift posy of flowers.

This delicate posy of flowers features pale pink and burgundy peonies, mauve liliums and white alstroemeria.

Some white twiggy stems have been added in for extra interest.

The foliage have been removed from the bottom part of the flower stems.

The flowers have been held in the left hand with the largest one in the centre and the other stems added one at a time with the right hand crisscrossing the stem in one direction and turning the posy around clockwise as you go.

The flowers in the next rounds should be slightly lower so it is gently rounded accross the top.

As you are making this type of posy you should always check it is evenly balanced.

When the posy is the desired size, the stems have been secured in place with by winding twine around a few times.

The ends of the stems have been cut level.

Pink ribbon has been placed around the twine and secured at the back with a couple of pearl pins.

Mauve ribbon has been placed on top and it has been tied in a small bow.

Have a wonderful Mothers Day!

This design has been explained briefly. In the Floristry Diploma Course there is a step by  step floristry manual and an online video for each practical lesson. You will learn how to make up each design following each step so your designs will have that professional look.

This floral design with mixed flowers in different colours is sure to brighten your day.

It is suitable when you want an arrangement suitable for a small table or you can make several and place them along a longer table.

This design was made featuring roses, mini gerberas, dahlias and stock and surrounded with leaves.

A smaller container has been filled three quarters the way with water and placed inside a larger glass container.

A wide ti leaf has been placed between the smaller container and the larger container. This is a great way for covering stems in a glass container.

The flowers have been arranged in the water with foliage placed around the edges spreading it out to the sides.

The finished design has been placed on a black tablecloth.

This design is briefly described – in the Floristry Diploma Course each step is explained in detail with the measurements and exactly where to position each placement.

Student Testimonial “I love every design in the course and have received numerous compliments about my work.  Thank you for such a wonderful experience .” J G

I hope you have a very Happy Easter.

This basket of flowers featuring white liliums, pink lisianthus and white chrysanthemums would look lovely in your own home or make an ideal gift for Easter.

A white wicker basket is used a base.

Florist foam has been soaked in water for several minutes and placed in a plastic florist bowl and the foam is secured in place with a clip on guard.

The basket has been filled three quarters of the way with crumpled paper and the bowl placed on top.

It is important the top of the foam sits about 3-5 cm above the edge of the basket so the side stems can be inserted into the sides of the foam.

The foliage has been cut to the desired length and inserted into the foam in a rounded shape starting in the centre and placing it in rounds having some pieces extending over the edges of the basket.

It is easier to position one type of flowers first then move onto the next type.

The liliums are the feature flowers –  the stems have cut to the desired length and inserted into the foam leaving a space between each one. these flowers should extend out slightly more than the other flowers.

The pink lisianthus stems have been cut slightly shorter and positioned in between. Repeat this with the chrysanthemums.

This design has been explained briefly. In the Floristry Diploma Course. There is a step- by-step floristry manual and an online video for each practical lesson. You will learn how to make up each design starting from the very beginning and follow each step so your designs will have that professional look.

Student Testimonial “I enjoyed the floristry course, it was so informative.  The online video lessons were very helpful and the practical lessons were excellent. I loved designing them.” K M

February the 14th is Saint Valentine’s Day.

Its is celebrated around the world and is a lovely way to express your feelings to your loved one.

Red roses are traditionally associated with Saint Valentine’s Day and it is usually the busiest day for the florist.

In this design a heart shaped foam base has been soaked in water.

The rose stems have been cut short (about 7cm long) and inserted around the edges keeping the heart shape and then working inwards following just inside the previous round with the centre roses placed last.

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.” – Helen Keller
