Summer Solstice has just begun in the Northern Hemisphere, beginning on June 21st! This means that the Nordic island of Sommarøy (meaning ‘Summer Island’) is currently enduring a full 69 day period where the sun does not set. Between May 18, to July 26, the island just north of the Arctic Circle will see nothing but daylight! This is a regular occurrence for these islands, which has lead to their small populations questioning the need of being part of a regulated time zone.
Like something out of Game of Thrones, the island has endured a long polar night, which lasts from November to January. This means that the islands population of around 300 has to adapt and change the way they work depending on the time of year. Whether it is always day, or always night, the people struggle to work what we would class as normal time. So, at 2am you can see children playing football, and people doing household jobs, according to islander, Kjell Ove Hveding. This is why the questioning of time has arisen for the islanders.
This matter has been labelled as a formalization, rather than a change. The islanders have gathered at the town hall to sign the petition to have the island changed to a time free zone, in a bid to have Norwegian parliament legally change the time zone laws. As we say, this is more of a formalization, as it is something that the people have already been living by for generations.
The main reasoning behind wanting this change, is so that the island does not have to conform to standard practices etc. things like shop, or school opening times for example. This would mean that they could work in a way that suits their lives, rather than sticking to the standard time zone rules.
Of course, it is not possible to disregard the concept of ‘time’ completely, but the people of Sommarøy are definitely making headway in achieving what they have set out to do so!
The Time Bridge
Time, and the Nordic island of Sommarøy share such a unique relationship that visitors actually leave watches behind! In some of the most famous cities around the world, most notably the likes of Paris and Prague, tourists travel from all over the world and leave ‘love locks’ locked to bridges to celebrate their own relationships! A trend that many disagree with, but one that people travel all over the world to take part in. Sommarøy has its own share of tourists too, and rather than leaving locks, the done thing is to leave a watch attached to the bridge! This bridge connects the island to the mainland, and as people enter the land that time forgot, they leave a watch on the bridge to mark their entry!
This is just another thing that makes the island so unique, hence why it has become such a popular tourist spot for those looking for a slightly different holiday location!

The Bulova Precisionist collection has proven to be one of the brands most popular ranges for some time now! With it’s bold, strong look, and groundbreaking tech inside, it is easy to see why. We have seen that Bulova love to produce ‘out there’ and striking looks before. Recently we heard of the re-release of the Bulova Computron, which definitely goes against convention!
The Bulova Precisionist range has been labelled as ‘Advanced Timekeeping at Its Best’. And it is hard to disagree when you hear about what’s inside! Boasting a proprietary 262 kHz high-frequency movement, which allows the seconds hand to sweep in a fluid motion! The combination of bold, architectural design and the graceful notion of precision timekeeping is what makes these watches so special!
One calling card of the Precisionist is that seconds hand. Not only does it sweep across the dial, but it also has a unique design too! At the alternate end of the hand is the Precisionist logo, making the hand almost like a pair of scissors! This is just another example of the detail Bulova go to, to make every model perfect!

The 98B276 is a much differently styled watch to the previous model. This is a great option if you’re looking at a dress watch, or a timepiece to wear with a suit. A sleek and smart design, with the two-tone style combining perfectly with the vibrant blue dial. Again, this model comes fitted with the extremely precise Precisionist movement, making sure that the watch can be relied on at all times.
In partnership with the Grammy Awards, the 98B295 is a special edition model from the range. With a matte black IP case, and dial, with gold accenting, this is a fantastic looking watch! the dial holds fantastic detail, with the sound wave background and the Grammy logo completing the look. As far as GShock watches go, with experimenting, and customizing. they still love to stay true to their roots, and pay homage to their past! Of course we still get fun, and unique models such as the Kanoa Igarashi Limited Edition, or the Hot Rock Sounds Series. Today we look at something that is a little more tame, and closer to the roots of the Casio brand. Still special, still fantastic looking, and very unique, the Full Metal – Vintage Style Aged IP Limited Edition! Not the shortest name ever for a limited edition watch, but it says exactly what it is!
A tribute to one of the most popular GShock watches, but with a little something special too! The Full-Metal range has been extremely successful for Casio, as it holds so many fantastic models! This was one of the first styles from G-Shock, and has become a very important part of the company’s heritage. So, to acknowledge this, they have produced a version that comes with purposely weathered, and aged IP plating. This vintage appearance represents the legacy of timeless toughness, forever evolving our classic designs that G-Shock have been able to build. It also stands to show that the brand remains committed to durability and reliability too!
This model, based on the GMW-B5000, has received some unique treatment to achieve it’s look. A Full Metal IP casing has a distinctive weathered look, thanks to the use of black IP plating, which then undergoes a proprietary ageing process. this produces a somewhat unique look every single time, as it is a process of ageing, rather than a design. this makes your watch so much more special and exclusive!
Both, stainless steel case, and bracelet, are fully shock-resistant, with the watch being solar powered with 22 months battery reserve! This model features the fantastic Multi-Band 6 radio wave timekeeping, Bluetooth mobile connectivity, full auto LED light and 200m water resistance. The watch was first seen at this years Baselworld, and is not yet available to purchase, but limited to only 300 pieces, it is definitely going to be a popular one among collectors!
Limit watches are the perfect alternative to an expensive timepiece, without losing out on style! Limit is a British brand, that have been supplying watches to the UK since 1912! The brand has been able to grow it’s success from finding a niche in the market. Offering quality as well as value, in one watch. For over 100 years, this has been the way, and they have no plans of stopping now. We can see this thanks to all of the new styles being released, including the ones we are looking at today!
Limit offer a huge range of styles and designs, for men, women and children, as well as analogue and digital watches available to choose from! All timepieces from Limit use a Japanese high precision quartz movement to achieve total accuracy, and all models arrive with a 2 year guarantee. Today we are looking at a few of the new styles from Limit, from their core range and the Secret Garden collection too!
These first two models, the 60044.73 and 60045.73 come from the popular Secret Garden collection, and offer a glitzy, glamour look, in black or white! At the low price of £29.99 you will be able to add a fun, sparkly spin to any party outfit! PVD plated cases, and leather straps compliment the rose gold or black glitter dials, making this a great, fun watch!
Next up, we have a very similar style, just toned down a little! The 60049.73 and 60048.73 come in at the same price as before, but offer a little something to your wardrobe! Where the glitter look covers fun nights out and parties, this style could be chosen for more classy, or smart outings! A mother of pearl dial has been used to signify luxury in the world of watches for a long time now, so this is definitely a great choice to go for!
The 60051.73 and 60050.73 are very similar styles, with the first coming in purple, and the second in pink! You cant complain about being able to choose which shade of pink/purple you want! Again, based on the same Secret Garden model, this piece covers a more casual summer look than the previous two! With the floral, almost tie die dial, this brings fun and vibrance to any outfit! Perfect for wearing in the sun!
Again, at £29.99 it is hard to find a reason why this piece is not fantastic value!
These next two models offer a completely different look to the models above. The 60059.01 comes on a black leather strap, and the 60058.01 comes on brown. Both feature gold PVD cases, which is a great pairing with the white dial, and leather straps. These models are much smaller, which is a style that many women much prefer! Ideal as a watch to wear to work everyday, or a piece that can easily be dressed up for an evening out!
With a price of £25 you get a fantastic, versatile watch that can be worn for a whole range of events and activities!
Sticking with the small case theme, these four watches are based on the same design, and feature subtle, white, mother of pearl dials! Firstly, we have the 60060.01 and 60061.01 which are still sitting at the £25 mark and come on either brown, or white leather straps, for a smart and stylish look! For those who prefer the look of a metal bracelet, or possible struggle with the clasps of other styles of bracelet and strap, the expandable bracelet is ideal! With a closed loop bracelet, meaning no clasps or buckles, this can easily be slid over your hand as well as worn comfortably too! Again, at only £25, and available in silver (60062.01) or gold (60063.01) this could be the ideal option for you!
It seems that Casio, and it’s G-Shock brand are always releasing new collaborative and limited edition pieces. This is because they are! This is a great thing for us as watch fans, meaning that we are always being treated to new and exciting pieces! Recent new models we have seen include the Carbon Core Guard and the Everlast collaboration. One of the latest to be announced is a special Kanoa Igarashi Watch produced in collaboration with the pro-surfer!
The G-Shock Kanoa Igarashi Collaboration
The all new GLX-5600K1 is the latest addition to the popular G-LIDE collection, which is relatively new itself! This collection is compiled of watches designed and built for extreme sports, just like the Vintage Hawaii Limited Editions! This new, limited edition G-Shock GLX-5600KI watch is a signature summer model in partnership with pro surfer Kanoa Igarashi.
The GLX-5600 is the base model for this piece, and features a tide graph making it the perfect tool for surfers. Professional or not! The case is a thinner, more square shape than a lot of G-Shock watches, helping it to stay out of the way, and not cause obstruction whilst surfing.
This GLX-5600KI-7ER is formed from a semi-transparent skeleton resin, that has been inspired by the ocean and is completed with a cool mirror finish face. upon this mirror face sits the signature of Kanoa, which can then also be seen on the case back and the strap too. His signature will show when the dial is illuminated, a cool trick we have seen on many of the limited edition models!
Kanoa Igarashi was born in 1997, in California, and began surfing at the age of three, unbelievably! Since his first lesson he has come a very long way, winning a number of major sufing competitions throughout his career. He is currently a world-class professional surfer competing on the World Surf League Championship Tour.
2009: At the young age of 11, Igarashi smashed the single NSSA (National Scholastic Surfing Association) season record with an amazing 30 victories overall.
2012: A few years on, at the age of 14, he achieved the title of being the youngest ever Under-18 U.S. National Champion.
2016: Following this he progressed further, and became the youngest ever, and first Asian, to participate in the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour.
2017: He continued his success in to his 20’s, winning the WSL Vans U.S. Open of Surfing held in his hometown of Huntington Beach.
2019: This year, Kanoa Igarashi was crowned as the first ever Japanese surfer to win an elite World Surf League’s Championship Tour Event!

Check it out here!
The brand works closely with a number of ambassadors, such as Lindsay Chapman, Ethan Walker and James Macfee. All of who live the EB lifestyle! They have also previously worked with a range of different companies and charities too! Helping to support the work they do, and showcase their way of life! The latest of these, is this brand new collaboration with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)!
At this years International Jewellery London event, Elliot Brown will launch two new RNLI timpeieces. These Elliot Brown special edition models will be seen at the show from September 1st – 3rd. Not only do these new models spread the reach of the RNLI and show people all of the good work that they do, but they will actually also be supporting the institution financially too, with a donation of £35 being given to the emergency service for each watch sold. This is a fantastic step for EB, as the lifeguard plays a huge part in keeping people safe, saving lives!
There will be one model from the Canford range, and one from the Kimmeridge range too. Both watches will feature a face that has been inspired by the Lifeboat colours. White and blue 12 hour markers play reference to the colour of the boat hooks, which are still carried by every life-boat. These have been held on-board since the beginning of the service.
The case backs of these watches will come with a special design, with the original RNLI anchor in the center. These will also hold the words of Sir William Hillary too “With courage nothing is impossible”. Ian Elliot, co-founder of the Elliot Brown brand has said how much this collaboration means. He, and co-founder Alex Brown have always been water-sports enthusiasts, and as makers of some of the world’s most durable watches, the collaboration with the RNLI makes sense. He went on to tell how their strong connections with emergency services and specialist military units have helped to create credible brand stories that are truly exciting for consumers in today’s tech-heavy, fashion accessory environments.
Elliot Brown’s recipe is simple and unique: incredible build quality, unique brand story and the best back-up in the business.”
Laco Pilot Watches are different to all other pilot watches! This is because of their history and origin, all the way from the Pforzheim. Pforzheim is a town in southwest Germany, where just a few exclusive companies are able to have their workshops, and continue the long tradition of expert watchmaking. All the way back in the 1940’s, a Laco watch was an indispensable tool in the cockpit, and now, today it is an expression of freedom. With a Laco aviator timepiece you are not only wearing a precise and robust watch on your wrist, but also a piece of history.
All models from the Laco aviation range offer the same quality and accuracy, as well as a legendary history too. During the 1940’s there was only a handful of companies who received permission to actually manufacture pilot watches. One of these of course being Laco. There were strict rules and standards that had to be followed, once allowed to produce these watches. These detailed requirements for watches created for the German Air Force were formulated by the Ministry of Aviation under the classification “FL 23883”. This number stood for “navigation devices” and would then also be seen on every watch on the opposite side to the crown.
These ‘observation watches’ were not worn by the pilots themselves, but the on board navigators instead. They needed Laco pilot watches, alongside an octant (an instrument in the form of a graduated eighth of a circle, used in astronomy and navigation) , to determine the exact position of the aircraft. Precision was necessary at all times, during all flights, under the most extreme of conditions too! So, it was important that these watches were easy to read, in any conditions. The modern day versions of these watches stand by the same principles, which is why you can often see clear, easy to read faces, with luminescent features. These watches are characterised by their high precision combined with outstanding design. Laco’s aviation watches are robust and distinctive pieces that tell a story, they are the “heirlooms” of Laco. The unique and intentional signs of wear that can be found on some aviation models is a stamp of authenticity back to the brands origins, and the true use for these watches.
These watches, just like the originals have still been created to the standards needed in the 40’s. Meaning, these new models are highly resistant to shocks, vibrations and pressure as well as easy and safe to use both day and night. These are features that nowadays are fantastic to have in everyday life, not just on-board an aircraft!
Most pilot watches models by Laco are manufactured by hand based on three different model types in Pforzheim. At first glance, the differences of the aviator watches types A, B and C, are, above all, in the division of the dial.
When you take a look at the watch market today, it is impossible not to notice the different styles of watches we now have to choose from. From the most popular colours choices such as black, silver and gold to unique patterned dials, we can say with confidence that there is a style for everyone.
In recent years there has been a rise and demand in one particular style of watch- the two-tone watch. This type of watch combines two different colours, usually coloured metals in the shades of gold, silver, rose gold and black. They are especially popular with the younger generation and we want to know, why buy a two-tone watch?
Incorporates Maximalist Fashion Trend
If recent fashion trends are anything to go by this 2019, such as mixed prints and colour tartan combinations, then it is clear to assume that the maximalist fashion trend is in at the moment. Two-tone watches fit into this trend well combining two different colours which might explain the recent increase in the sales of two-tone watches. For more information on maximalist fashion trend then take a look at one of our previous posts here.
Maximises Jewellery Combinations
If you are the kind of person that likes to change up your jewellery look then two-tone watches will fit your style well. Two-tone watches can be combined with two different jewellery colours, perfect for those that strive for an adaptable style. With a two-tone watch at the centre of your accessories, it also means that you can combine two-tone jewellery for a unique and stylish look.
Overall: Sophisticated and Formal Style
There is something special about two-tone timepieces. They allure a sophisticated and elegant style that can be worn for special occasions as well as formal work environments. If you strive to portray a professional persona and are looking for accessories that emulate that desire then we would recommend a two-tone watch without a doubt.
