Top of the fight-bill is a highly anticipated showdown between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya. The contest features the reigning middleweight champion up against the interim titleholder. The pair squares off in the championship unification with undisputed title on the line. The bout is scheduled for five rounds.

New Zealand-born, fighting out of Sydney, Australia, Robert Whittaker (20-4) was last seen inside the Octagon in June 2018 when he retained the belt by split decision against Yoel Romero in their second battle. He was expected to defend the belt against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 234 in February but was forced to withdraw on the fight day due to injury, (abdominal hernia) which required an emergency surgery.

Nigerian-born residing in Auckland, New Zealand, Israel Adesanya (17-0) debuted in the UFC in February 2018. To date he has recorded six victorious bouts. In his previous outing in April he scored a unanimous decision against Gastelum and earned the interim belt. Before that he earned a unanimous decision against Anderson Silva in a bout that served as a new main event of UFC 234 following a withdrawal of Whittaker.

Among other bouts expected on the UFC 243 fight card, Yorgan De Castro and Justin Tafa do battle at heavyweight. Both fighters makes their promotional debut.

Other matchups are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Fighting Family Legacy

On the WLC: King of Nine Limbs’s nine-fight card, seven athletes will enter the ring with the experience that no training can ever teach. That is the experience of coming from the renowned fighting families. The event takes place at at Mandalar Thiri Indoor Stadium in Mandalay, Myanmar on August 2 on Canal+ and UFC Fight Pass.

The only fight on the preliminary card will feature two young men from Karen State in Myanmar. Saw El Kaluu is the nephew of 1996 Golden Belt Champion Saw Thae Aung, one of the great fighters from that decade who was even invited to Germany to compete, which was unheard of during that time. His opponent, Saw Lin Lin, also has a legend in his family as his uncle is Yoe Yoe Lay, a famous fighter in the 1980s.

The other Myanmar vs Myanmar fight on the card renews a storied fighting rivalry with Htet Naing Aung taking on Sai Maung Maung. Their fathers faced off twice in the past in the 1990s, with Sai Maung Maung’s father having the upper hand having won one fight while the other was a draw.

Vietnamese fighter Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat is arguably the most popular martial artist to ever come out of Vietnam. A multiple-time SEA Games Gold Medalist, his popularity in his home country is unrivaled and it is understandable considering his lineage. His mother is a former mixed martial artist Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh (more commonly known as Minh Anh Ngoc) and in an era where females competing in martial arts was not as socially accepted, revolutionised the sport and became a sensation. She took on all comers till eventually legend of her prowess spread and no one wanted to face her.

Cambodia’s Eh Yanut, who is making her world lethwei championship debut in the women’s division, has the longest line of fighting history. She is the fourth generation of combats sports in her family and her father, Eh Phouthong, is widely considered by many to be the “Muhammad Ali” of khmer boxing.

Another fighter on the card, Hein Tun Aung’s father was also a popular fighter on the lethwei circuit twenty years ago. At WLC: King of Nine Limbs, these young upstarts have the opportunity to continue their fighting families’ legacy at the biggest lethwei event in history.

Basically, any action film features some sort of fighting. It can be a sports drama covering the real aspects of this or that martial art, or a fast-paced adventure or crime, which includes combat. In a way or another the scenes are directed, which involves fight choreography. The featured video is an example of stage combat, with Belgian actor Emilien de Falco taking on French mixed martial artist Mehdi Baghdad and bodybuilder Morgan Aste at Dubai Fight mid 2017.

The list below includes five actors, who have really competed inside the square circle*. The order is not based on popularity on the big screen or achievements in sport.

  • Jean-Claude Van Damme
  • Mickey Rourke
  • Jonny Lee Miller
  • Idris Elba
  • Warren Brown
Jean-Claude Van Damme

Prior becoming the Hollywood super star, Belgian Jean-Claude Van Damme, 58, has earned the 18-1-0 record in Full Contact. “Kickboxer” competed in the original style of kickboxing, which evolved from Karate. Although there is no much video footage of his bouts, the 1979 fight of JCVD has been caught on tape.

Mickey Rourke

Another Hollywood celebrity who has thrown punches inside the ring for quite some time is American Mickey Rourke, 66. As an amateur boxer he won 27 out of 30 bouts in total. As a pro he recorded 6-0-2, 5 KO. Furthermore, he has competed internationally, in such countries as Germany, Spain and Japan.

Jonny Lee Miller

English actor Jonny Lee Miller made his Muay Thai debut this past February in New York City. At the age of 46 he went through the ropes for the second time following an exhibition matchup last year. He won the fight by knockout in the third round.

Idris Elba

46-year-old Idris Elba, also from England, has become a fighter in 2016 under the patronage of former light-welterweight world champion Kieran Keddle. The Discovery Channel produced documentary covering the actor completing a 12-month training prior he entered the ring and won kickboxing fight by TKO at the York Hall in London.

Warren Brown

The third English actor on the list is Warren Brown, 41. He has become world light welterweight champion at the age of 21, a few years after he was already acting. Brown won the title against the defending champion Carlo Barbuto (today promoter of Thai Boxe Mania in Turin, Italy).

*If you know any prominent actors who has as well become (or was) a fighter, feel free to drop a comment below.
