Amazon, Ebay and Alibaba are the big players in Ecommerce. Last year, Amazon’s worth is up 30% while Alibaba‘s stock has nearly doubled as both companies raced to $500 billion in value. Moreover, there are a lot of small/medium E-commerce companies with annual revenue greater than 1 million. This shows how hot the E-commerce market is nowadays!

However, building an Ecommerce store can be both interesting and terrifying as one needs to have the relevant skills and knowledge. That’s why in this blog post, we have come up with the easiest steps to build an Ecommerce store.

Check it out!

How to start an Ecommerce store? 1. Finding your niche

The first step to build an Ecommerce store is to find your niche. It is not as simple as buying a bulk supply of products you like and then resell it on your Ecommerce store. This is why selling jewelry and clothes can easily lead one to a dead end. To have a successful start in your Ecommerce business, you need to do a lot of research and know which products are currently trending and not easily available from other Ecommerce stores. Keep in minds that consumers are always attracted to unique and specific items.

2. Start a business plan

You should plan your journey and schedule before you go traveling. The same goes to starting an Ecommerce business, you have to create a business plan before you start your business. A business plan is the most critical thing that helps you to develop the roadmap and framework to establishing a successful business. From setting up your business overview, choosing the product suppliers, doing market analysis to the financial planning, your business plan must have a clear idea of how it will reach success. Read this to understand more about business plan.

3. Choosing a Domain Name and Site Location Choose a web hosting provider

After establishing a business plan, you may need to choose a hosting provider. A hosting provider/web host provides the service of domain registrations, website hosting and other related  services that you need to build and maintain your E-commerce store.

Register a domain name

Next, register your domain name. A domain name is the address of your online store (for example, www.boutique.sg ). It is what users type in their browser’s address bar to reach your website. Besides, with a domain name, you are able to improve your business identity, increase business trust and reach out to local market better than your competitors.

Register a web hosting plan

Without a web hosting service, registering your domain name will serve little purpose. Web hosting is the space that you buy on a web server to store your website files and ensure your Ecommerce store is up and running. In addition, an SSL certificate is also very important to protect your visitors’ sensitive information, including their contact details, bank account details, passwords, etc so that they can buy with peace of mind. Recent research show that websites with SSL also help in SEO and tend to rank higher in the search engine. Therefore, you should buy a web hosting plan with Free SSL service, otherwise you might need to pay more for this service in the future.

4. Build your own e-store/website Install WordPress

Use WordPress and WooCommerce to create and design your own Ecommerce store. When you purchase a hosting plan, your hosting provider will email you all the details needed to login to the backend of your account, namely cPanel. Once you’re logged in to cPanel, go for 1-Click WordPress Installation. All you have to do is just click on the WordPress icon. After installing WordPress, you can use it to add product descriptions, choose a theme/template, add images, put your taglines, set up your menu and so on. To learn more, here are the steps on how to create your website using WordPress.

Set up a WooCommerce Store

After creating your website with WordPress, you still need to set up payment methods, add shipping information and sort taxes automatically. Therefore, it’s recommended to set up a WooCommerce store, which is actually one of the WordPress Plugins. WooCommerce can be used to sell both digital downloads and physical goods that need shipping. Besides, WooCommerce features built-in payment processing from leading providers, such as Paypal and Stripe. They also accept credit cards/debit cards, direct bank transfer, cheques or cash on delivery to enable users to make payment with just a few clicks. Moreover, users are able to choose pickup, local delivery or shipping. Also, it can help you automatically calculate the state tax rates for some of the major countries. There are still a lot of features the Woocommerce provides that you should refer to.

*If you are overwhelmed, or simply busy to use WordPress and WooCommerce to create your e-store/website, hire a web designer or ask a web design company to help you customize a unique and beautiful web design, including photos and copywriting created specifically for your business.

5. Market your products and services and build traffic

Once you create your own Ecommerce store, you can start selling — it’s time for you to market your Ecommerce business and drive traffic. Here are the most effective and efficient ways to advertise your Ecommerce store and gain business/brand awareness.

Social Media

Social Media is the most popular and effective way to advertise your products and services nowadays. Create a business account on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other platforms you find suitable to reach your audience, and frequently display your company information, reviews, photos, and announcements to gain more awareness from the clients.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

With SEO, your website will rank higher in search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo! Hence, it is easier to reach the consumer who are looking for the products that you are selling.

Therefore it is important for you to ensure your website is SEO friendly.

Email marketing

By using Email Marketing, you can directly target your customers. If you have a strong customer database, you can have full control over how and when the messages are delivered. Design your e-newsletters/emails with beautiful template to gain the attention of your customers.

Exabytes also provides email marketing service to help you to send your emails to thousands of customers at once. By taking an active marketing role, you can gradually build your own list of customers, categorize and manage them to effectively reach your marketing goals.

Conclusion

Starting your own Ecommerce store is not easy. It involves a lot of hard work, including finding your niche, writing a business plan, building your own website, marketing your website and maintaining your Ecommerce store. Keep in mind that just like any other business, having a successful Ecommerce business requires time and effort, and success comes to those who act!

I believe everyone’s got their own hobbies, such as photography, playing musical instruments, petting, etc. However, we only get to have fun with them while we are free. Wouldn’t it be nice to do more of what you love and actually earn more money from it? Here are 10 most common hobbies that can be turned into a stream of income.

1. Professional Gamer

Getting paid to play video games sounds too good to be true, but it’s possible to earn money by uploading your gameplay on Youtube. The greater the ‘liked’ and ‘subscribed’ on your Youtube video, the higher the commission you earn from Youtube. It could be a few cents to a few dollars depending on the traffic. Besides, Twitch can help you make money as a streamer, even if you’re just starting out, through their Affiliate Program.

The winner of the 2017 International Dota 2 Championships, TI7, EU team Liquid, took home a $10.8 million (S$ 14.13 million ) prize. Therefore, you can build a team and join the tournament in your state and then the world. Big money is paid out to the winner!

2. Music

If you are interested and skilled in singing, playing an instrument, or other capabilities related to music, there are many methods for you to gain more income. You can either become a tutor, giving music lesson or become a performer, performing in any special event or pubs. Besides, there are a lot of singers and musicians who got discovered from Youtube and Facebook. Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen are the best examples who started their homemade videos from Youtube and became world-famous after that. So, don’t let your talent get covered. If you have a passion for a certain subject such as travel, food, business, etc., you may self-publish a book. Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing is ready to help you make money off your book, novel, travelogue and so on. Publishing takes less than 5 minutes, and your book appears on Kindle stores worldwide. You can earn up to 70% royalty on sales to customers in the US, Canada, UK, Germany,  Japan, and more.

Craft-making is always a popular way to make money because the cost of making is very low, but the profit is high. Prior to the internet, it had been difficult to market the craft items. After gaining sufficient profit from there, you may own an E-Commerce website as offered by web-hosting companies.

5. Photography

Photography is definitely many individuals’ side interest. If you enjoy taking pictures and you are good at it, you might think about starting your own home-based photography business. Instead of taking photos at special events or capturing portrait photos, you may also sell your creative photo to individuals, businesses, or stock photo websites. Many businesses need professional photographers to help them to capture their products and services and turn the photos into high-quality product images with which to advertise. Shutterstock, 123rf and iStock Photo are the sites that enable the photographer to sell their photos and earn extra income.

Nowadays, a lot of us dream to escape from the boring office work and start up our home-based business. However, certain issues are preventing many from getting started, such as lack of capacity, startup fund, networking, the presence of high risk, etc. Do you have a dream to earn money by freelancing, and eventually turn it into a full time business? Here are 10 money-making small business startup ideas that require less capital and professional skills.

  1. Cleaning Service

Everyone knows how to clean as it requires minimal skills to get started. Don’t limit yourself to house cleaning, you can also focus on providing cleaning services for offices and retail shops. One of the biggest benefits of providing cleaning services is you don’t have to spend a lot of money on advertisements because your business will probably gain awareness through word-of-mouth. Kyle Walker, the youngest cleaning business owner launched his company at age 15 and hits his first million dollar revenue at age 21.

  1. Dog Walking

While this service might not be so popular in most Asian countries, in certain cities in the United Kingdom, Dog walkers can charge up to an average of £11.50 (S$21) per hour per dog. If you happen to help your clients to walk 192 dogs per month, your annual earnings can be £26,496 (S$ 48,541). Pawshake is one of the dog walking service providers in Singapore and other countries, where clients can recruit pet sitters and dog walkers. This is definitely a great job for dog lovers.

  1. Tutoring

Are you good at certain subjects? Do you have a passion for teaching? Tutoring can be the best job for you to earn extra income. You can choose to be a home tutor or online tutor, which does not require any physical classrooms. The only thing you require is proficiency in the subject you teach, and your willingness to give up a few hours each week to help someone else. Sites like Tutor.com are places you can sign up with and start your tutoring job. Market rates for tuition jobs are around S$15 to S$50 per hour, depending on your qualifications and the education level of your tutee.

  1. E-Commerce

Last year, Alibaba smashes its Single’s Day record once again as sales hit 168.3 billion yuan (S$34.6 billion). This showed how potential the E-Commerce market is. In order to set up a fully functional E-Commerce store, you just need a domain, hosting and web design with little budget. However, the effectiveness of your marketing and advertising effort will influence the profit you earn. To succeed in this business, you don’t have to sell a hundred types of products. Instead you just need to sell the right items at the right time. For example, coffee powder has a high demand these days.

  1. Event Planning

There are many different events throughout the year. Besides wedding (the most common one), there are also corporate events, conferences, concerts, farewell and birthday parties and many more. According to a survey conducted by Payscale, the salary of an event planner ranges from S$10K to S$54K per year, with an average salary of S$30,952 per year. It’s best to start with a birthday party, which requires only a small budget. This is because the materials and equipment needed to set up a birthday party is relatively lower than other events. Once you accumulated more profits/capital, you can grow your business and hold larger events for bigger profits. One of my friends started her event business with only 2 workers in the company, but now she has more than 15 employees based in Penang, Malaysia.

  1. Editorial

There are several editorial services you can provide without any initial monetary investment, such as:

  • Book writing.  If you are a professional in certain areas and would like to share your experience and expertise with a lot of people, you should write a book.
  • Copyediting. A copy editor reviews and corrects written materials to improve accuracy, readability, and fitness for its purpose, and to ensure that it is free of error, inconsistency, and repetition.
  • Proofreading. A proofreader makes sure the copyediting changes have been properly made and no new errors are created in the process. He or she also checks for grammar errors, sentence structure, etc.
  • Ghostwriting. A ghostwriter is a writer who is paid to write for someone else, under that person’s name.
  • Copywriting. Also known as business writing, this is writing text for the purpose of advertising or other forms of marketing.
  • Web page content provider. A writer who focuses on composing website content.
  1. Virtual Assistant

As a virtual assistant, what you need to have is a phone, a computer and Internet access. This is a great job to have if you like flexibility. The work of a virtual assistant varies, and can cover tasks like researching, editing, data entry, preparing report, social media management, and others. They usually charge S$15-20 per hour depending on the specifics of the job.

  1. Photographer

A photographer doesn’t need to have an expensive studio or office to kickstart his business as he can conduct his business anywhere. Whether it is for wedding, family events, marketing events, people pay good money for professional photography. A simple research shows that a professional event photographer can charge S$100 and S$150 per hour. If you’re looking for even more income, a photographer can also sell his/her photos online on websites like shutterstock, 123rf and iStock Photo.

  1. Social Media Consultant

As we know social media is now the most popular and influential advertising channel to gain awareness. As a result, many companies are looking for people who are well versed in social media to help them manage their social media presence. Although you may already know how to post on Facebook and tweet on Twitter, you need more knowledge and skills to become an expert in social media. So should you attend special training to become one? Not really. In fact, there are many complete professional courses offered by Google. Some of them even offer certifications from Google.

  1. Mobile Auto Detailing

Mobile auto detailing is probably a perfect side business for car lovers. In essence, your job is to make cars sparkles inside and out. A person offering mobile auto detailing service does not need an automatic car wash machine and system, or even a shop. When the customer name the time and place, they will bring the cleaning kits right to their car and help the clients to wash, wax and pamper the family wheels. Basic car grooming normally charges around $150, which means you can earn up to 70% margin as the cleaning kits can be used for a long time.

BONUS : Buying and reselling on eBay, Amazon and Carousell

No matter who you are, you can start your business on ebay, Amazon or Carousell without any capital by selling the second-hand stuff around your house. After you’ve made your profits, expand your business by selling the trending products. For example, some sellers even hit rummage sale and thrift stores for cheap goods they can resell. Here are some tips that can give you an idea: how to make $4000 per week selling on ebay.

How to Get Started??

It is easier said than done. We know it’s not easy to start a business. Luckily, nowadays you can kickstart with low budget instead of having to invest on renovation and rental for a physical shop. We’re pleased to present to you a few simple steps to start your business:

  1. Decide what you want to sell and come out with a business plan
  2. Build your own online store
  1. Attract and retain your customers

When it comes to buying something, one of the Most Important Concerns is usually the “Price”. Many of us usually ask for cheaper and cheaper prices.

However, for domain registration, it’s simply more than prices! And this is also why one should register his/her domain name for multiple years.

Let’s check it out!

1.Save time, effort and lower the risks of losing your domain.

Multi-year domain registration prevents your domain from expiring too soon. This can save a lot of hassle as registering an expired domain can be very complicated, and there are risks that your domain might be used for unethical activities.

Here is an example of an expired domain, which was registered by 3rd party to attempt launching an attack on Dell customers. Dell forgot to renew PC data recovery domain in 2017. Source: www.theregister.co.uk

2. Save more with one lump sum payment.

New domain registration can be a lot cheaper (for the 1st year). But when it comes to domain renewal, the fee goes back to normal. Registering a domain for a long period of time can avoid paying for high renewal fees. Moreover, some domain registrars/hosting providers even offer Big Discount for multi-year domain registration so that customers can save more.

3.Helps in your SEO ranking

Google has higher confidence towards those who are serious about keeping their business around for a long time.

4.Tell Google “You’re not SPAM“

Google sees domain registered for a longer time as something more reliable (lower chances of being a spammer). This can influence Google’s sandbox effect for newer sites.

Act wise, and never lose your domain!

The importance of user experience on mobile is no longer a new topic, although it’s still an important factor when building a website.

In this blog post, we are going to share the DIFFERENCES between being mobile friendly and mobile responsive. Check it out!

Mobile Friendly ≠  Mobile Responsive The differences between the two are:

A mobile-friendly site is actually a copy of your website, where the server does the work to deliver optimized pages that will appear smaller on a phone and may not work ideally on a touchscreen device. It will, however, be functional.

On the other hand, a website with responsive design automatically adjusts and reformats itself according to the user’s behavior and environment, based on the device’s screen size, platform, and orientation.

Benefits of Responsive Design

A responsive website allows easy browsing and provide a better user experience.

  • Speed – Reduce time needed for website loading

Most of the mobile browser page response speed is determined by the website coding on your web server. Obviously the longer your server waits to respond to a request from a browser, the longer your page loading time.

  • SEO Friendly – Ranks well on Google

If you wish to rank better in Google search, you should have a responsive website. Google claims that it ranks websites that are responsive to  multiple devices better.

Find out more about Mobile SEO

  • Supports more browsers – Chrome, Mozilla, IE

Different browsers read the codes of your website differently. In other words, Chrome, FireFox and Internet Explorer will read your website Differently. Thus it’s important to ensure that your website is compatible with all these browsers.

With this, you can increase business conversion.

You might have this question on your mind:

What type of design is best for my business and my website?

It’s depends on how far you understand your customers.

If your customers browse more often on mobile, then you should emphasize more on improving user experience on mobile by having a responsive website. Don’t be confused by the professional terms and their definitions. In fact, a responsive website can be easily built using our All-in-One Website Builder.

It can be done without any coding!

Websites created using Exabytes Website Builder adjust to screen resolutions and resize contents automatically. They adapt automatically to visitors’ devices so that they always look perfect on tablets, smartphones, laptops or desktops. No extra step is needed to make your site ready for mobiles or tablets.
