Last week, EON Reality finalized and signed a deal with USAID to bring the very first Interactive Digital Center (IDC) to Morocco and the entire Maghreb region. The seven-way partnership also features multiple local universities and government departments and serves as the starting point for the AVR Platform’s dispersion throughout the area.

Attended by some of the area’s most influential members of government, education, and enterprise, Friday’s inauguration in Morocco’s capital of Rabat celebrated the official launch of the IDC in the city of Ben Guerir. Housed on Mohammed VI Polytechnic University’s campus, the new IDC will contribute to the growing Augmented and Virtual Reality (AVR) industry throughout Maghreb and bring AVR solutions to entrepreneurs, educators, and students alike.

Additionally, over a dozen local, regional, and global media outlets were present to report on the news in three different languages, ranging from AfricaZine to Hibapress. The deal is sure to strengthen EON’s global brand as it looks to expand into other new markets as well as building upon existing locations.

The AVR Platform, Built for Industry 4.0

Augmented and Virtual Reality production at the Manchester office is strongly influenced by the same five foundations that underpin the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy. These are: ideas, people, infrastructure, the business environment, and place.

The UK Team at EON Reality continues to be pivotal in helping create, support, and deliver the brand new state-of-the-art VR & AR Learning Suite at Telford College.

The chief executive of the Education & Training Foundation said he was ‘blown away’ by the new Augmented and Virtual Reality (AVR) facilities at Telford College, which is a fantastic accolade for Telford College and their 7th form concept.

Since its inception by the visionary teams at the further and higher education establishment in Telford, the technology from the local enterprise partnership and EON Reality has attracted serious and unique attention from the likes of the BBC, RAF Cosford and other stakeholders across major UK industry leaders. It is also one of the most ‘mind-blowing’ learning spaces in the county – as evidenced recently by the Chief of the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), David Russell.

Mr. Russell is in charge of the ETF, which is a UK government-backed support body for the further education (FE) and training sector in the UK and upholds both professional standards and support for this expertise within the learning industry.

He recently took to Twitter to kindly say: “Quite blown away by the learning technology I’ve seen at the VR/AR centre at Telford College. So much potential to be used to enhance education. A very exciting professional development challenge for staff.”

VR and AR have been proven to provide strongly immersive media for learners across vocational education, in adult education, for upskilling, and even to support strong workplace performance.

Virtual Trainer

Telford College’s AVR Suite also benefits from an entire “VR Virtual Trainer Centre,” a teaching and immersive learning space kitted out with HTC Vives and EON Reality’s Virtual Trainer product from the AVR Platform. Virtual Trainer helps to deliver photorealistic training across a wide variety of subjects, and is particularly useful for learning vocational subjects, skills and procedures in exciting and sometimes inaccessible or risky environments.

Students and Learners – as Impressed as the Teachers

A Lecturer at Telford College in Creative Studies, Anna Dowdall commented in the local paper Shropshire Star about the positive impact that the suite has had on students in terms of engagement, and even for students who are using immersive technology for the first time.

The training session also allowed myself and fellow tutor Joe Adams to try the new equipment for the first time – it was fun to experiment with the equipment, and to try new things. We were especially impressed with the way the technology allows us to see amazing locations and feel like we are there.

The EON Reality-Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Future of Education Global Summit in Singapore brought out a who’s who of the academic world. The two-day event featured keynote speeches, presentations, and discussions with global academic leaders all centered around the topic of how technology is changing the world of education. Representatives from esteemed organizations such as NTU, National Institute of Education, Macquarie University, Beijing Normal University, SkillsFuture Singapore, and Asian Scientist Magazine shared their visions of the classrooms of the future as well as how Augmented and Virtual Reality (AVR) technology can play a role in creating active and collaborative learning environments going forward.

Bringing together some of the brightest minds in all of education has always been a goal of EON Reality, and with this Summit, we were finally able to achieve that on a global level,” said Dan Lejerskar, Founder of EON Reality. “Seeing university presidents, professors, and many others come together to recognize and embrace Augmented and Virtual Reality as the future of education validated what EON Reality has believed in for quite some time. The 5th annual Medical Science Festival will be held in Bologna May 9-12 2019, and EON Reality will be one of the core businesses delivering a keynote talk.

The 2019 edition of the Medical Science Festival / Festival Della Scienza Medica, will focus on ‘The Intelligence of Health.’

Alongside internationally famous scientists, Nobel Prize winners and well-known researchers across all fields of medical science, EON Reality former UK Chairman, Ken Swain, will be delivering a talk about Augmented and Virtual Reality (AVR) innovation in healthcare.

The conference’s ambitious aim is to make scientific research in medicine more widely accessible to the public — particularly in keeping with the meteoric rise of AVR use within surgical training and the professional development of non-clinical staff, such as EON Reality’s work with the NHS.

VR will become a standardized aspect of surgical training, with training centers and teaching hospitals needing to invest in VR suites.

The graduating cohort of VR Innovation Academy students left staff and peers seriously impressed with their final project, ‘ALTO VR.’

This Unity-based Virtual Reality (VR) application, ALTO VR is an architecture lighting visualization and building simulation tool. Elements of the lighting application that can be used for teaching and learning, were also produced for EON Reality’s AVR Platform to support training and education.

ALTO VR — short for ‘Architectural Lighting Tool VR’ — was delivered by students under supervision and mentorship from EON Reality trainers and subject matter experts including Justyna Martyniuk-Pęczek, prof. PG from Gdansk University of Technology and Natalia Sokół, Master of Science in Light and Lighting.

Graduation day was attended by the VR Innovation Academy graduates as well as their trainers and local management. From the original “bootcamp” class of 17, a total of 13 students completed the first phase of VRIA training and became certified in the first level of EON Reality’s AVR Developer program, while 11 completed the second half of the course and graduated.

In the experience-based second phase, trainees worked on projects related to the AVR Platform and developed a series of Creator AVR lessons along with a full immersive VR experience related to architecture,and the design of lighting conditions.

The trainees then presented the completed work to EON Reality’s staff in the UK and received their final certifications from Marcin Kasica, Global Director of Education at EON Reality.

Seeing amazing progress and development in a group of people who joined the program, learned the full workflow of the AVR development, used the AVR Platform, and produced such a great final application is something truly special.

I congratulate all of the students on their achievement. I am extremely proud and happy that we had such a talented group of individuals who collaboratively worked hard during this program. We all look forward to their next steps as future talent in the AVR industry.

Among the others within the classroom chosen by the VR Innovation Academy as the hosting space for the final project presentation and graduation celebrations was Adam Bladowski, Global Trainer and AVR Content Manager at EON Reality.

As a PhD candidate studying the use of VR in construction planning (particularly as it pertains to the real-time simulation of pre-build structures, lighting and energy planning, and window placements in regards to the simulation of sunlight) at the Gdansk University of Technology himself, Bladowski was the initial spark to launching and commissioning ALTO VR.

It’s been another fruitful year and another fantastic group of people in our Academy,” Bladowski said. “It was a great pleasure being involved in such dynamic development that ended up with many smiles and joy to all the UK’s EONites.

The project developed in the Academy was useful in many aspects — and it helped in the research that opened my PhD — but most importantly it was a subject of studio and VR market practices for the students.

The first batch of VIA University College and EON Reality VR Innovation Academy students have now finished their internships, as part of the VIA Software Engineering degree.

This is the first -of-its-kind education wherein EON Reality has collaborated with a local University College to create an accredited Bachelor’s degree (BA Hons).

In order to develop the Augmented and Virtual Reality (AVR) industry, there has long been a clear need for the right education offerings. As such, EON Reality Denmark has taken a new approach to filling this talent pipeline by collaborating with VIA University College, creating a two-year AR and VR specialization for their Software Engineering Bachelor’s degree.

The VIA-AVR Internship

One of the first students who selected the new AR/VR specialization is Dmitri Belogurov from Estonia. He chose to take his internship with EON Reality Denmark and has been working on a variety of projects regarding the use of AVR technology for knowledge transfer.

EON Reality’s unique teaching methods from the VR Innovation Academy partnership means that if Belogurov decides to start his own company, he can do so and immediately know how to thrive and succeed at one of a growing number of designated AR/VR incubation clusters. To meet this need locally, EON Reality Denmark is planning a space with room for up to 20 companies working in the AVR domain. In the meantime, Dmitri will be continuing his work at EON Reality Denmark as a Student Assistant (SA) until the end of his education.

Being at EON Reality Denmark has given me a chance to use the knowledge I have acquired through the Bachelor’s degree, and it has given me insight into the business side of running a company. That’s something I can use if I decide to go solo and open my own company at a later date.

Development of the local AR and VR ecosystem is core to EON Reality Denmark’s strategy, and the AR and VR specialization with VIA and the VR Innovation Strategy forms an important part of this growth. EON Reality has several case studies that show the use of AVR for education and enterprise. Now, the challenge for EON Reality Denmark is to demonstrate these to Danish educators, company leaders, and people in general about the advantages of Augmented and Virtual Reality.

We are helping to educate students, who might be our future employees and introducing them to the broader possibilities in AR/VR besides games. Generally, national media agencies have focused on the use of VR in the gaming industry, but the use of VR as a training tool offers advantages like circumventing risks of training in a live environment, and gain the necessary experience in a shorter timespan.

Each brief video provides a detailed walkthrough (complete with full narration) of a single function or feature of Creator AVR. Digital Twins and Virtual Environments

The digital twin is fast becoming an assumed part of the enterprise IT now.

However, in deploying VR and AR, we’ve discovered the need for an immersive platform stems beyond 3D model mapping. It also extends beyond adding anchor points with notes. Moreover, digital twins can now be used as virtual machines for predictive analytics, training and performance assessments which remove the downtime required for these processes to traditionally happen within industrial environments.

AR and VR are perfect technologies to help support learning, training and performing in almost any work space. Company equipment – in fact, entire production lines – can be duplicated with Digital Twins. These can in turn, be interacted with, inside a Virtual Environment (VE).

This can help staff learn about equipment before seeing the physical device, train on specific procedures and processes in a safe environment, and then improve performance by assisting them directly in the field with live data, augmented instruction and guidance.
