Emirates has introduced Home Check-in, a new service which allows customers to check in for their flights from anywhere in Dubai. The service is available for customers across all classes travelling on Emirates flights.
The new service enables Emirates passengers to complete the security check and check-in from the comfort of their home, hotel or office and have their luggage transported to the airport prior to their flight. An Emirates check-in agent will arrive at the preferred location to weigh and tag the bags as well as check-in the customers and issue boarding passes. Customers can then make their own way to the airport and head directly to immigration, bypassing the check-in desks at the airport.
Emirates Home Check-in
The service is available for AED 350 per trip for up to 7 pieces of luggage. AED 35 will be charged for each additional piece of luggage. Customers can book the service on emirates.com up to 12 hours before flight departure time. This latest initiative is part of the Emirates’ ongoing commitment to provide world class products and services for a more convenient travel experience.
Emirates has been running trials for its Home Check-in service since October to ensure that the customer experience and security checks are faultless. The service seals each bag and stores them in a separate hold in the van. Emirates Home Check-in will be operated with a new fleet of vans.
The new Home Check-in offering complements other luggage handling services already available for Emirates flights in Dubai. For a seamless travel experience, customers can pay for a concierge service to handle their luggage at the airport, enjoy preferred rates for pre-paid excess baggage, and bag wraps to protect their luggage.
For passengers arriving in Dubai, there is a luggage storage facility for those who wish to leave their bags and explore the city. Emirates also offers a Home Delivery service where luggage is retrieved, cleared at customs and delivered to the customers for a hassle free travel experience. More information on these services can be found here.

Aventura is located in Mushrif Park, Dubai, which is close to Rashidiya metro, a short 10 minute drive from there or Midriff city centre. Upon arrival we were greeted by the front desk, given wrist bands for the park, but also for water and juice, the purple and yellow wrist band holders get free top up water and juice through out your stay!

We started with an initiation circuit that all visitors must complete, there are professionally trained staff that take you through how to connect and disconnect your wires and techniques on how to walk across things and how to attach yourself to the zippiness! This takes around 10-15 minutes in total as they let you do the circuit as well to be assured you understood what to do! The circuits range from “Rangers” to the “Extreme” and “Thriller” which is basically several huge zip lines across the park! (My personal favourite)- Sadly we didn’t get many pictures on the Thriller because my fear of heights had overcome me and I was pushing myself to keep going and forgot! However, we do have a few shots taken from below! The park is a great challenge, great fun and has some great staff!
As it is outdoors and in the middle of the dessert, it is recommended you do it in the cooler months, by doing it this month we experienced lashes of heat after about 12, so 9 was a good time to start, because it was still fairly cool then. The staff were really friendly and hospitable, offering juice and water and suggesting we take breaks. There is always one member of staff on each adventure, if not 2, so if yo get stuck or want to come down or just need a little push, they are just a shout away!
After the first course we decided to take a break under the shade, have a drink and cool down a bit, the staff helped us out of our harnesses and we sat back and took i the AC and had some water and juice. We took breaks between courses, and found that this helped. My partner in crime gave up after the second one because of the heat, but she really enjoyed the experience!
On site there are toilets, showers, a restaurant, bean bags, and a small area where parties take place. There was a party being set up as we were coming off the course, the table was being decorated with happy birthday banners and balloons and the children were gathering round, so it is also a great place for a party! There are also lockers where you can keep your things while you tackle the adventures waiting! There are also books and magazines in the restaurant and colouring options given to children, for those who want to watch or aren’t taking on the courses! I think the addition of the books is a great idea, very hospitable!
I wore cropped jeans and a casual to with trainers, closed toe shoes are recommended, obviously due to the nature of the activity. I would advise you to wear something comfortable and sporty, although my jeans were comfy and I could carry my phone and camera in my pockets, it did get a little bit hot at times. Other people were wearing leggings and tops, shorts, etc. It also depends on the whether, in the hotter months I would recommend you cover up to avoid getting sun burnt.
Overall, we had a great day and we would love to go back in a cooler time period! 10/10 from us Aventura Dubai!
Emirates has set a new record with over 1 million Wi-Fi connections made on board its flights in March alone. During the month, 1,037,016 Emirates customers connected to the internet during their flight.
The connections were mainly made over mobile devices with over 94% of users connecting with a smartphone –twice as many connections were made on an iOS mobile phone as compared to an Android mobile, and about 2% with a tablet. The remaining connections were made with laptops and other devices.
Wi-Fi connectivity is available on over 98% of the Emirates fleet, including all A380s, 777-300ERs and 777-200LRs. Customers in all cabin classes receive 20MB of free Wi-Fi data. Emirates Skywards members enjoy special benefits depending on their membership tier and class of travel, including free Wi-Fi when travelling in First Class or Business Class. Over 94% of passengers connecting to Wi-Fi on board Emirates in March took advantage of the complimentary offer and logged on free of charge.
The highest data usage from a single passenger was made by an Emirates Skywards member who stayed connected throughout their flight from Dubai to Johannesburg, consuming 4.9 GB of complimentary data.
Emirates continually invests in improving bandwidth on board by upgrading the connectivity solution on the fleet. Staying connected has become a mainstay and an expectation on Emirates flights and the demand for Wi-Fi on board has been steadily increasing each month. The route with the most Wi-Fi connections in March was EK215 from Dubai to Los Angeles with over 6,000 customers connecting in flight.
Emirates has been at the forefront of innovation with connectivity and inflight entertainment on board. It was the first airline to allow mobile phone use inflight in 2008, and the first to install TV screens in every seat on every aircraft in its fleet in 1992. Today, the airline provides one of the most comprehensive and state-of-the-art entertainment and connectivity services in the skies. ice, Emirates’ award-winning inflight entertainment system, now offers over 3,500 channels of entertainment, including over 700 movies from around the world. This unmatched variety of content will continue to grow, offering Emirates customers even more choice.
Just as fast-paced and glitzy as you imagine it, a visit to UAE is on most people’s travel bucket list. As a major international destination, it has an abundance of offerings of activities, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. In fact, much of Abu Dhabi and Dubai’s charm comes from their capability to blend the native Arabian culture with the highest of luxury amenities.
That being said, one of the things the region is not necessarily known for is its “ice” sports” offerings. These include sports such as ice skating, skiing, and the like. But it makes sense, as most people dream of riding camels through the sand dunes, marvelling at the towering skyscrapers, and lusting after the fancy cars.
At first, this may seem disappointing to you if you are an ice skating enthusiast. But, don’t fear, you will be able to get your fair share of cool while in UAE.
The country offers many unforgettable adventures for you and your travel mates. But if you are an ice skating enthusiast, you should try these four fun ice sports and activities in the UAE.
1) Figure-Skating at the Abu Dhabi Ice Rink
Obviously, the most important thing for an ice-skating enthusiast to do in Abu Dhabi is to visit the Abu Dhabi ice rink! The Abu Dhabi Ice Rink at Zayed Sports City is the coolest place (both literally and figuratively) in the city. So when the intense heat starts to get to your head, then you know it is time to attend an ice-skating lesson in Abu Dhabi.
Additionally, if you are traveling with people who have never been ice skating before, it is a welcoming place to learn. On Thursdays, until 7:00 p.m, the rink is for ladies-only. However, public sessions are held every day for anyone and everyone. Just show up, rent some skates and start showing your moves on the ice.
2) Hitting the Slopes at Ski Dubai
As the first indoor ski resort in the Middle East, Ski Dubai is an exciting addition to the Mall of the Emirates – one of the most favoured shopping malls in Dubai, with extensive department stores, and luxury designer shops. In fact, when you get to the mall, skip the shops, and head straight for Ski Dubai. It will be a lot more fun, and your wallet will also thank you!
In Ski Dubai, you will find a mountain-themed wintery setting, where you and your friends or family can go skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, and even meet the Snow Penguins!
The world’s largest indoor snow park houses an incredible 3,000 square meters of snow and is open all year round. Ski Dubai also offers private, group ski /snowboard lessons. This indeed is a fun activity for all, especially ice-skating enthusiasts!
3) Watch Ice-Hockey at Abu Dhabi Ice Rink
In addition to ice-skating, the Abu Dhabi Ice Rink is home to the UAE’s top ice hockey teams, which include children and adults of all ages. As Abu Dhabi’s only Olympic-size skating surface, the ice hockey matches here are nothing short of thrilling.
Come with family or friends, grab a coffee and some food from one of the several restaurants, settle into the comfortable seats, and get ready to watch a fast-paced, nail-biting match.
After watching a match, you may even consider having your children participate in the affordable hockey programs that the rink provides. Touted for its quality instruction and enthusiastic coaches, the Abu Dhabi Ice Rink is a worthwhile place to visit for all members of the family. (Not to mention there is also a spinning studio, tennis center, and bowling center!)
4) Hanging out at the Chillout Ice Lounge
Lastly, if you’re tired from skating or simply don’t feel like engaging in some ice or snow sport and just want to sit back and relax, head to the Chillout Ice Lounge. Located in Dubai, this is the first café-restaurant in the Middle East set in a sub-zero setting.
The lounge features fascinating ice sculptures, ice seating, and an illuminated interior. You’ll also get your fill of delectable hot and cold savory dishes and sweet treats. You’ll also have a variety of hot and cold beverages to choose from as well.
Have you been to the UAE? What else do you recommend for ice-skating, adventure enthusiasts?

If you are a UAE resident and want to gain an insight into addictions, or seek professional advice about the condition, CEO & Clinical Director of Solace Sabah – Dr Prem Shanmugam, a world renowned professional in the field of drug addiction treatments, will be presenting at the Erada International Addiction Conference on topics of addictions in the family and rehabilitation.
Scheduled to take place during the first week of March (2nd & 3rd) at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers, this is an excellent and educational opportunity for professionals and individuals with an interest in the subject.
The conference organizer aims to promote and encourage participants from different sectors to attend the event, not limiting the opportunity to psychology or mental health professionals only. The event committee hopes to achieve a shared appreciation among the participants, of what different psychological, peer-based and medical approaches can offer, through the display of service users experience, research and clinicians work. Delegates are therefore encouraged to apply the information given by speakers, whether that’d be in professional work or when working with service users.
Dr Prem Kumar Shanmugam
The EIA conference will cover a range of different topics, which include;
Addictions & The Family, The Social Neuroscience of Addiction & Recovery, Addiction as a Brain Disease with Social Consequences, Reconsidering Addiction Treatment etc.
The economic cost of drugs addiction in the UAE each year amounts to Dh 5.5 billion, according to a news report by Gulf News. The financial losses were calculated based on a 2012-15 study carried out by the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) in Abu Dhabi, with the help of the UN Office for Drugs and Crime as well as the participation of 20 UAE’s departments and universities.
Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, told the Federal National Council in May 2016 that the number of cases increased to reach a death rate of 6.1 out of every million people. A figure which, while not as high as in other countries, is still a problem that affects the whole of society. Adding to this, thanks to the severity of the penalties in the UAE, drug use is much lower as compared to other nations. However, the high cost of such issue should not be underestimated as the treatment and rehab for drug addicts costs billions of dollars a year.
Dr. Prem Shanmugam is also in the country to announce the opening of a Solace Sabah representative office (www.solacesabah.com) in the capital city of Abu Dhabi, where individuals can come and seek advice on treatment programs. Solace Sabah share similar core values and the same global view of improving treatment and innovation in this sector as the EIA organizer.
Solace Sabah is Asia’s leading rehabilitation center, with headquarters in Malaysia and regional offices in Singapore and now Abu Dhabi. Founded in the year 2014 by CEO & Clinical Director Dr. Prem Shanmugam, known globally for his expertise on the subject, the organization and clinical team stands among the most reputable in the region. Since its inception, Solace Sabah has been the point of reference for those from the UAE and the Middle East seeking addiction treatments, offering a unique and effective treatment model developed by Dr. Prem Shanmugam himself, who carries many years of research experience and publications in addiction, substance abuse and treatment.
Both EIA and Solace Sabah are excellent advances in the way of treatments for addiction in the UAE and wider Middle East.
