The twits are the worst kind of people you could ever imagine. They are a horrid couple who live in a cottage without windows. This is because Mr.Twit thinks it is irritating when people peep inside their house through windows. (isn't windows used to look outside rather than inside??) They are also retired circus trainers and hope to open the first upside-down monkey circus. Their ways of doing it is cruel. They also keep a family of pet monkeys and make them stand on their hands for hours together. The father of the monkey family is called Muggle Wump and the Twits made them do everything upside-down including eating, sleeping, walking and everything else. The monkeys hate them but they have to obey them because they know that if they do not obey them, then Mrs. Twit would beat them with her cane. You might think that the 2 are a evil pair but they they are surely not a pair because they hate each other as much as they hate others. They keep doing horrid stuff to each other like Mrs. Twit owns a glass eye. A glass eye is a fake eye which you can remove and put it back again. One day, Mrs. Twit puts her glass eye in Mr. Twit's mug and another day she made him eat worms saying it was spaghetti. Almost half of this book is filled with revenges that they take on each other. The Muggle Wump monkeys continue to be treated badly but now they have had enough and want revenge. This book is all about how the monkeys take revenge on the Twits with the help of the Rolly Polly bird.
My trip to Elephant Pond was very memorable as Angel learnt to swim here! An off-leash dog park with agility equipment that help train your dog along with a huge natural pond in the middle of a forest for your dog to learn swimming! This is the best place where your pooch can train, exercise and have fun with his/her 'furiends' and you get to enjoy with yours!
Oh yeah! We had taken Angel to swim also to PetCart Nest and another dog friendly swimming pool but she didn't really like it there. This was actually a fluke. Me and my family along with some of our friends with their dogs had gone for an outing to Elephant Pond. It is actually a reserve forest area.
About the Dog Park
Many years ago, the area used to be a forest and the pond there was used by elephants to drink water, and thus the name. Now it has been converted into a dog park. There are a lot of trees around it.
When we enter the area, we can see a car parking space. From there we can take our pooches inside to the off leash area. It is a pretty big space where we can ditch the leash and let our dogs be free and run around as much as we like. Agility equipment are also placed there. The owners have thoughtfully placed some water bowls for the dogs to drink from for the dogs. Just adjacent to the off-leash area, is the huge natural pond which gives the place its name. The only thing you must remember is that you must call and inform the owner the day and time that you will be visiting the place. There is also a small canteen which provides you simple food.
Angel's Swimming Adventure
When we took our dogs there, they were just running around and not even looking at the water. While running, Angel slipped and fell into the water. As it was natural, the place Angel fell was not deep. She was trying to come out but she ended up going deeper inside. That's when her inner dog instincts of a Golden Retriever was triggered, and she started swimming! She was shocked as me! I got scared and started calling her to come outside. But the moment she realized the pleasure of swimming, she just took off! She swam and swam with everyone cheering her on. She literally went to the center of the pond, and it was the deepest part! I literally threw her a ball to the other side of the pond, and she went swimming to get it! The distance was about 30 feet! It was the longest she had ever swam.
Can you spot the five dogs above?Us hoomans and especially our pooches enjoyed immensely there, and it was a very memorable trip that I will cherish forever! Make sure you call up and confirm your arrival before your go.

I bought this book an year ago for the Readathon with my friend, but I just never had a chance to read it. A few days ago, I found myself staring at my bookshelf wondering which book to read. Well...I chose Survivors by Erin Hunter.
When the growl occurs (earthquake) all the longpaws (humans) run away leaving their beloved dogs. The leashed dogs know nothing about surviving on their own as the longpaws have pampered them all along, but now they have to learn. Lucky is a lone city dog surviving on his own. He had been adopted by humans, but they tortured him. He got so fed up that he ran away from home. Lucky finds the stranded leashed dogs and decides to help them. He decides that after he teaching them to survive on their own, he will leave them and continue his life as a lone city dog. This takes a lot of work, but right when he feels that they are ready and plans to leave them, a pack of wild dogs whose alpha is a half- wolf, attacks them. He gets so attached to these nimble and innocent leashed dogs that he finally decides to stay with them. For this, he has to deceive his old friends and also has to enter the pack of the wild dogs with the ferocious half- wolf and deceive them too! Will his cunning city dog tricks be more cunning than the half- wolf dog? Read these books to find out!

Survivors is a set of 14 books. The list is given below-
This set of books are about dogs, not humans. But they do meet humans. Not like the ones they knew. These longpaws (humans) were mean and scary. They even carried loudsticks (guns) and they even tried to hurt them! The leashed dogs had never seen such longpaws. But Lucky knew people like them. He was also taken care of by longpaws. They were so cruel to him that he ran away. Now the leashed dogs have to learn to hunt and survive on their own in the wild, and they mostly have to get over the fact that their longpaws are coming back. If they really want to come back for the dogs, then why did they leave them in the first place? Now they have to hunt, find food, water and shelter and learn about the other packs. They have to survive......
Ever Wondered if you could give home food (vegetables and things humans eat) or is it compulsory to give processed dog food only? Well, I have the answer for you right here!
First, let's talk about Home Food
Homemade Dog Food-
Home food is not always healthy because many people don't know about the perfect recipe or what they should give and rather just give whatever they have at home (leftovers) to their dogs.
No spicy food-
I knew people who would give everything they eat to their dog including really spicy stuff. Their dog used to enjoy it. But later on they got to know that their dog had kidney stones and other health issues, and it was because of all the spicy and unhealthy things they fed him.
Dogs can't eat all the things we eat. I only give pale things like roti (nothing to go with it), idli, dosa, or some raw vegetables. But it can also consist of chicken or any kind of meat, eggs, sweet potato, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, green beans, rice and others. Sometimes picky eaters turn homemade food down. Angel is surely not that kind of dog. She will eat rotten tomatoes to $1000 meal. Like, she will eat anything and everything you give her. Nowadays, raw meat and meat products are being promoted as best for dogs as it serves their natural diet and appetite. I am, however, not sure how far this helps in overall well being of the animal when compared to homemade cooked food recipe and/or kibble.
It depends on the dog. If your dog has any allergies, it is advised to visit the vet and know about all the things you can give and things which you can't.
One disadvantage is that it takes a lot of time to prepare food for your dog at home. People who don't have so much time, prefer kibble or ready-made dog food. Another disadvantage is that people don't have the knowledge of a healthy diet and some are vegetarians and don't like giving meat to their dog even though it is the primary diet for dogs.
Simple Homemade Dog Food Recipe-
Here's one recipe that I found on the internet:
1. 3 pounds chicken
2. 4 cups rice
3. 2 cups vegetables (no onions or garlic)
4. 6 cups water
1. Place chicken, vegetables, and rice into a large saucepan. Stir in water until the mixture is smooth. Place over medium-high heat and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
2. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the rice is tender and all of the liquid has been absorbed, about 25 minutes. Cool completely before serving; store covered in the refrigerator.
Dog Food (Kibble)-
Meat is necessary-
If you are a vegetarian, it is always better to give your dog ready-made processed dog food or kibble. If you check in google for homemade dog food recipes, we can see that almost all contain meat. This is because dogs used to actually live in the forests and used to hunt to survive. So they were carnivorous. But obviously now humans have domesticated them and now they are omnivorous. My point is that meat is supposed to be a part of their diet. Kibble does contain it. So, if you are a vegetarian, you can opt for kibble so that all the nutrients required by your dog are met by a good quality dog food.
Also, don't give only one brand. Change them periodically. This will compensate for any deficiency that any one brand or type may have. Unfortunately, sometimes when you change the food, dogs tend to fall ill. This does not mean the food is bad. The change should be done slowly, so when we buy a new brand of kibble, we first mix it with the old brand and slowly switch over to the new brand.
One disadvantage of kibble is that many dogs finish eating kibble extremely fast and are still hungry. Some pet parents also say that they have to clean their dogs' teeth after they eat kibble. Very few also tell that kibble is poisonous for dogs, and they add chemicals to it which is harmful for them but there is no proof for that. The quality and ingredients used themselves also is a question of debate. It is better to give only trusted kibble and do some research on it before buying it.
Conclusion- Hope I have helped you in deciding which food you should feed your dear pet and what you can choose to get the best for your pooch. Share this article with your friends who may find it useful too. Happy Feeding!
Ever wished that you wanted to be free from your congested and cramped locality and all you needed was an open space where you could enjoy and have fun with your dog? Well....your wish has come true! I have taken my golden retriever, Angel, to all these places and keep going there during my holidays.
I have listed below 5 great pet friendly places you can visit with your dog if you are in Bangalore.
1. Petcart Nest -
So far, this is my favorite pet resort. We had gone for the opening ceremony of the first dog resort in India (Petcart.com) and as it was the inauguration we got to spend the day there for free! Everything is so amazing. I always wanted to open a dog resort when I grew up and now I know how a good dog resort should be. They are coming up with a cafe too but for now there is a small food truck that provides food and snacks for humans as well as dogs. They also have a pool where you can swim with your dog. The only disadvantage is that it is a little far away from where I live but that's okay.
2. Dog Park at the Elephant pond - Even this dog park is amazing! The area used to be a forest and the pond there was used by elephants as a watering hole, and thus the name. I actually feel sad that the 'forest' was civilized and made into a dog park, but we can't do anything about that. This was the first time Angel actually swam! She just randomly jumped/fell into the water. I was shocked and started to call her back and thought she would drown. That's when I think she realized that she could swim, and she was off! The place has an open off leash area too where your pooch can run around and there's a agility track for the dogs too. There is also a small food center where you get basic food stuff like snacks, but you have to order beforehand, and it is only open on Saturdays and Sundays. Check out the video from my visit below.
3. Slate cafe - Actually this doesn't have any open area and it is just a building in the city but it is till awesome. We just ended up finding it when we went to 'Daily Bread' to buy a cake. When we reached there, we found Slate Cafe in place of Daily Bread. It looked pretty from outside so we went to have a look and we got to know that it is pet-friendly! Whoop! Whoop! We instantly went inside. It serves food for dogs and humans, and it also has books for book-lovers! All the things I love - Food, Dogs and books! What more can you ask for!
4. Turahalli Forest - If you like being in the wild and don't want any civilization around you, just trees and trees, then this is the place for you. It is a hilly terrain, and it is a conserved forest. It is an amazing place where you can go and hike with dogs. People go walking there every morning and take their dogs along with them. I have literally seen so many dogs when we go hiking with my friends and their dogs. I know it is called 'forest', but there are no wild animals, but there are peacocks though. I always wanted to see them, but I have only heard them. It is said that it is the only surviving forest in Bangalore. Now the government has restricted entry to the place. You may try your luck on weekends when the gates are sometimes open early in the morning for public.
This is actually a normal cafe for humans, but they do allow dogs inside. But the food.....OMG! It is A-mazing!! Rainbow cakes to lemon tarts to cold coffee. You get all the yummy stuff! The only downside is that you can't leave your dog off leash here. They can just sit beside you and drool. :-) There is no special menu for dogs, but there are many things like bread sticks or a slice of cake that you can give them.
These are the places I love going to with Angel to have fun. I'm sure you will like them too. So pack your bags, leash your dog, call some friends and set off to one of these places this summer to have fun with your dear pet!
'We will have to spend the night here as it is closed.' regretted Tiro. Lucy sighed and sat on a big fat couch. The others joined her. The trio sat on the couch for a while looking at the little books moving around glumly. 'Why don't we just look for the book rather than sitting here doing nothing?' said Avery. 'Yeah' said Avery 'Okay let's do it.'
Once again, they started their search.... The story so far:
After two more hours of searching, everyone were getting hungry. Lucy asked Tiro if he had any food. 'Sure. I have a magic food pocket from which you can get any kind of food you want! You just say SULUCIDUR! But make sure to concentrate on what you want or it could go wrong' told Tiro. Each of them put their hand inside it, concentrated of what they want and said the magic word. When they took out their hand, they had the food they wished for! All of them ate hungrily and then they slept on the couch.
When they woke up, light was streaming through the windows of the library. Again they ate breakfast out of the magic pocket. They got up from the couch and started roaming around the basement as if they had just arrived as other witches and wizards were also entering the library and they did not want them to know that they had spent the night there. They saw that the books were all asleep. Some on the ground, some on the couch, they were literally everywhere! Some even snored! One book attracted everyone's attention. It looked ancient and it was handmade. When Lucy went to take it out of the shelf, Tiro shouted, 'Hey! Don't touch that book! It can only be touched by the maker or his descendants' Then Tiro went near the book and said some kind of spell. A whooshing sound was heard and the book came out of the shelf and landed in Tiro's arms. He slowly opened the book. It was surely his great grandfather's great grand father's book. It was called 'Magician's engineering' There was once again a glow in the children's eyes. They had found the recipe!
This is what they read:
The money making Machine-
Snake's tooth - 1 and a halfPencil's lead - half tonneLiquid rubber - 50 gramsIodine - 43 milliliters copper - 0.67148 gramsGiraffe's milk - 2 drops
How to make -
Take a fully grown snake's tooth and powder it.Powder the pencil ledPut the powdered tooth into a cauldron and then add the powdered led in it.Heat the copper so that it turns liquid and add it into the mixture. Place the cauldron on a fire and constantly stir it. Add the iodineAdd the giraffe's milk While heating, add the liquid rubber and stir it until it turns purple
Make sure the mixture is extremely sticky. Do not touch
Cover it and let it cool by switching off the fire.Put the ash of the fire on top of the lid. Make sure that there is no direct contact between the ash and the mixture.Keep it in the freezer for a month. The mixture cools down to such an extent that it contracts to a ball. Dig the ground. Put the mixture (now a ball) into the soil. Cover it up with more soil. Add some water.Leave it undisturbed for a week. Now we can see that a tree is grown. After another week, we can see that the tree now bears fruits. Pluck the fruit and cut it. You will find $10 in each fruit.
There will be an unlimited supply of fruits. Stay tuned to find out if the trio make the money making machine or not.
'Okay... so we want you to take us into your world of magic. We want to see how people live there.' said Avery to Tiro - the Genie. 'Ohh...this is a tough decision. Our world is not that safe you know? Recently a cruel wizard has taken over our country. He is known as Lord Norbert. So make sure you always stay with me and never go wandering off your own. If you promise me to do this, only then I will take you.' said Tiro. Then Tiro cast a weird spell with overwhelming movements and then there were 3 blasts of smoke and off they went into the magical world of genies!Part 1: The Peculiar Pencil
They felt queasy for a few seconds and everything went black. They were suffocated and finally they blasted into Tiro's house. The house was huge! It almost was the size of a mansion. Tiro said that all the people who lived there were very rich as they had 'money making machines'. 'That's awesome!' exclaimed the 2 sisters. 'I wish we had those machines too.' said Lucy. You may take it at home but it is very difficult to make it' said Tiro. 'Let's try to make it!' said Avery. 'The recipe can be found in the library.' said Tiro. 'My great grand father's great grand father had made it many years ago. So I don't remember it.
'Let's start the search right now! We don't really have a lot of time.' said Avery.
So the girls with their genie went to library to search for the ancient book.
They searched for about 3 hours but found nothing. The closing time of the library was 6 'O' clock. (Magic world time) The girls didn't realize this and kept searching and searching. They searched all the floors. 'We are all done but we still don't have the book!' said Lucy sadly. 'Not yet!' said Tiro.
'The basement is still left. We might find it there.' he continued.
The basement was dark and gloomy. No one ever went there because of this gloomy atmosphere. It was filled with old and special volumes of books.
All of the books were magical. Surprisingly, the books moved around and even spoke something in their own language occasionally! No one understood their language. Not even Tiro. They could also speak the human language. Tiro told If someone tried to learn the secret language forcefully or illegally, then the books would find that person and kill him! So it is always better to be on their side. Tiro picked up one of the moving books playfully. The book shouted, 'Hey you! How did you get into this chamber?! It is restricted. Also, you are still inside the library even after it is closed! Now let me go or else I will call my army of books!'
'Wow!' said Tiro and dropped to book. The book walked away with a frown. 'Tiro! we're not used to these timings so you should have kept a watch!' said Avery. 'Sorry' said Tiro. 'We will have to spend the night here as it is closed and we can't get out of the library at this hour.' regretted Tiro. Lucy sighed and sat on a big fat couch. The others joined her. The trio sat on the couch for a while looking at the little books moving around glumly. 'Why don't we just look for the book rather than sitting here doing nothing?' said Avery. 'Yeah' said Avery 'Let's do it.'
Once again, they started their search....Were they able to find the magical book? Make sure you stay tuned for the next chapter!
Valentine's day is here! If you would ask any single dog lover out there who their valentine is, they would surely tell their dog's name. Well....same here! Every dog needs some love. Whether it is Valentine's Day or not. Here are a few tricks to understand your dog better and to shower him or her with some love.
1. From the heart - Dogs are smarter than you think. They can sense your feelings. I mean that they can tell if you are angry, sad or happy. They can also sense love. Love your dog from the heart and treat him like your best friend. If there is no pure love, then your dog won't make a bond with you. Your dog will also love you back when you show love.
2. Talk to him - Your dog is not a material thing and you don't buy a dog - That's why we always say, 'I adopted a dog!' and not, 'I bought a dog!' You can always talk to your dog like a person. I know obviously he will not reply back or answer you your math homework problems but he will sure listen. I have literally felt better after talking to Angel. She just sits and listens patiently. Do that with your dog too!
3. Go on walks together -
Going on walks regularly truly makes your bond with your dog stronger. A few years back, whenever I asked Angel to do something, she would NEVER listen! Like, Never!! But later on I started training her and taking her on walks and guess what - She listens to me a lot more!
